I'm having bad internet problems on my MBP Retina recently.  Turning wireless off and on fixes it briefly.  What do I do?

I'm getting issues (In Chrome and Safari) where I go to a page and just see the HTML but no pictures.  Or a youtube video will not load sometimes I don't get CSS or Javascript but I do get HTML.  If I turn off the wireless network I see broken picture images.  However when I am at home plugged into my TB display it goes to Gig-E and stuff loads again, in a few minutes that will stop working and I turn wifi back on and it works for a few more minutes.  After a while I get sick of it and do a PC thing and reboot.  The reboot makes the computer function like a Mac for a few hours to a few days then we are turning wifi off and on again.
I've had this problem on all the networks I have tried.  This problem never happened when I was on Lion and I don't think it happened on Mountain Lion until recently but not sure.  I blamed Time Warner for the problem for a while.  There are 2 other Mac Book Pros in the house and the late 2011 is having the problem but the recently purchased 2012 non-retina is not having the problem... yet.
I'm running 10.8,2 and patch everything I can as soon as it is ready.  Having USB3 issues as well.

Sig,
Thanks for the advice. I finally tried a solution after doing nothing. LoL. What I did do was change the channel the router was on from 9 to 7. I think I've done something like this in the past when I had slow internet and that worked out well too. I thought that would help and so far so good. Not an interruption so far but we shall see. To the guy or girl who expressed that they had the same problem as me I would try changing the channel of your router like I did. I will monitor the situation and see if it totally solved my problem or not and keep this thread updated. Thanks people

After leaving a wi-fi connection my iphone will not automatically connect to the internet using a mobile 3G network unless I turn my phone off and then back on again. Is there a setting that can be changed to overcome this?

Then I'm at a loss. Mine has switched automatically from the start, favoring Wi-Fi, any of its registered networks, whenever available. Only thing I can think of is trying a Force Restart and see if that clears things up: hold down Home and Sleep till the screen goes black and a white Apple logo pops up. Release and allow it to restart.
May be similar, when I got the i5 about 16 months ago, the local carrier was starting to roll out 4G service. The phone would regularly lose all carrier connection, voice and data. Haphazardly would reconnect when it felt like it afterwards. Initially did the Off/On dance to speed things up, but discovered that using Airplane Mode would do the same without the lengthier power cycle. After awhile, the carrier 'fessed they were having capacity issues and later the problem went away. So yours too may also be a carrier issue.

Do you have an active data connection (wifi or cellular)? Have you tried resetting the phone by pressing and holding the Home and power buttons until the apple appears (this is different than just turning it off and back on).

Frustratingly, since I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10, I too am having the worst problems with WiFi dropping out. I've never had this problem before on my iMac 27-inch mid 2011 model. Turning WiFi off and then back on again sometimes works. Help please. I've already tried a lot of your suggested fixes, but without success. Why hasn't Apple Fixed this?

Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
    Step 4
Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences and unlock the settings, if necessary. Select the Power Adapter  tab, if there is one. Uncheck the box marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    if it's checked.
    Step 5
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
    Step 6
    In the Wi-Fi settings, select
              Advanced... ▹ TCP/IP ▹ Configure IPv6: Link-local
    Click OK and then Apply.
    Step 7
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 8
    Reset the PRAM.
    Step 9
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    Step 10
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

    Go to /Library/Preferences/System Configuration
Move all the files from the System Configuration folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. See if that made a difference.

    Try this:
    1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
    2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

Try resetting (rebooting) the iPad.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.  Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes solves mysterious problems.
If that does not help, see if this article does:  <iOS:  Unable to Update or Restore>.

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
    Thanks again!

  • I have an ipad 2 when i open anything that i downloaded such as games or applications it doesnt open i dont know why i tried to turn it off and turn it on again but the same problem

i have an ipad 2 when i open anything that i downloaded such as games or applications it doesnt open i dont know why i tried to turn it off and turn it on again but the same problem any help plz?

If it's just the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store that you are having problems with, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.

  • Constantly having to turn Airport off and on.

I am constantly having to turn Airport off and then on in order to stay connected. I am continually getting dropped off the network and the only thing that works is turning Airport off and then back on again.  It works until the next time it decides to quit which is several times a day.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Please try each of the steps that follow, in order, until resolved:
    STEP 1
    Create a New User Account
    System Preferences > Accounts
Click "+" to add a new account
Log off, and then, log back on with the new user account.
Try connecting to a Wi-Fi network with your Mac's AirPort.
If this resolves the problem, there maybe something amiss with your current profile and further troubleshooting would be in order to try to find out what it is.
If this does not resolve the problem, go ahead and log back in to your normal account.
    STEP 2
    Delete Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > Select AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Under Preferred Network, use the minus button to delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
Delete AirPort Keychain Entries (Note: only applies if you connect to AirPort/Time Capsule routers)
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in /Applications/Utilities
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
Restart, or log out then back in.
    Add Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > Select AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Under Preferred Network, click on the plus button to add any preferred network(s).
Restart or log out then back in.
    STEP 3
Disable the Mac OS X Firewall
System Preferences > Security > Firewall
    Click the "Stop" button.
    STEP 4
    Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences
Move (not copy) the SystemConfiguration folder to the OS X desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to its original location.)

  • My MacBook Air won't stay off. I turn it off and it will wait anywhere from a few seconds to a few hours and turn itself back on. You can see how that can get annoying and I can't seem to solve the problem.

There's a slight chance this might help:

Otherwise it needs to be repaired.

  • My Internet was messing up so I turned it off and on. It still wouldn't work so I turned my iPhone off and now it won't come back on. What can I do to fix it?

I was trying to fix the internet on my iPhone so I turned it off and back on, then it still wouldn't work so I i turned my iPhone off and now it won't turn back on. Now when it's plugged into the wall or the computer the Apple Logo comes up for about 6 seconds and turns off, then back on for another 6 seconds then turns off again and it just repeats, and it really frustrates me. What can I do to fix it?

I had a similar issue with my phone.....it just shut off and wouldn't come back on even thought it was charged.  My daughter toggled the mute switch several times and then she pressed and held down the home and lock buttons.  It worked......would be worth a shot.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

What kind of wireless router are you using? more importantly which protocol are you connecting with? Are you and wife connecting using the 2.4Ghz band? or do you have a dual band router that offers the 5GHZ band?  Are you both connecting vie 802.11 a/b/g or n?
The best thing to do is to go into SYSTEM PREFERENCES and select NETWORK, then select AIRPORT and click on the ADVANCED button.
Under the AirPort tab you should delete all the preferred networks and only add back in your network with the proper security settings and passwords.
If you hold down the option key on your keyboard while clicking on the airport icon at the top on your macbook pro. you'll seesome data that will tell you what band and mode you're connecting at, as well as in an indication of signal strength (RSSI) if you write down and post back that information it'll tell us what's going on.
