I'm having Final Cut Pro X interface issues

I am a total n00b to FCP, and I have messed up my version seemingly completely and have no idea how. I am currently taking a class (only a couple classes in) and the layout on the class FCP X is totally different, listing the different drives and event libraries, etc. It should look something like this:
But mine looks like this:
I've uninstalled and reinstalled three times, deleting my preferences, etc. and it hasn't reverted back to the original layout. Anyone have any clue how I can get it back to the original layout that lists the different drives and events, etc.? I'm hoping it's something simple that a moron such as myself will be able to fix.

You'd get better answers if you post questions about FCP-X in the appropriate FCP-X forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/final_cut_pro_ x?view=discussions
This forum is for the legacy versions of FCP (version 7 and below).

  • My Final Cut Pro X rendering issue

    Hi,
I'm new to using Final Cut Pro X and was hoping someone could help me with the issue I'm experiencing.
My Final Cut Pro X keeps rendering. As soon as I open up the application it just renders and I can’t do anything. It won’t move past 4%.  I've rebooted my Mac five times already.  I've recently uploading videos to the timeline (the last time I logged on) and it's 22 minutes.
How can I fix this issue? I have plenty of space on my Mac's hard drive.
If anyone could help, that would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alicia

I can see that Innocentius replied, but can't see the reply. So this may be redundant to his post.
When you import media, you are given many options – to copy to events, to optimize, to analyze, and so forth. Which options did you elect?
What kind of media are you using?  And if it came from a camera, describe how yoi brought it into FCP.
If you hot Command-9, it will open the Background Tasks window. What does it indicate is going on? Better yet, post a screenshot of the window.

  • Final Cut Pro Upgrade Licence Issues

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone can advise .
I had an old version of Final Cut Pro and recently bought the upgrade , which I installed successfully.
Then, seeing that I had a whole new box of manuals, in a moment of madness, I threw away the old box . In doing so, I have thrown away my old licence.
So now if I ever need to re-instal Final Cut Pro , or instal it on my laptop (it is only installed on my desktop) , I have no licence key for the original ( which I must instal before the upgrade ) .
Anyone got any ideas how I go about getting a re-issued licence key?
    Thanks in advance .

    Hope this helps.

  • Final Cut Pro X Update Issues

Last year I purchased a used 2013 MacBook Air with Final Cut Pro X already installed.
I just learned that in order to update the software, I need to be signed into the Mac App Store account that purchased FCPX.
Is there anyway to transfer the software onto my own account, or do I have to contact the seller and get their information to update. Any other ways to update?

If you are serious about editing with FCP X, buy it yourself. That way you will get each future update
which will match whatever iteration of OS X is most current on any computer on the planet (that you own).
No One in their right mind is going to give you their App Store sign In info. W/O it you are stumped,
stagnant even - in the bottom of the pond all alone. You know how many people write in here asking
how to get something for nothing? Lots. In that respect you are not alone.

  • Final Cut Pro X - Overheating Issues

Whenever I use Final Cut Pro X on my MacBook Pro, SMC Fan Control says my computer is 80 Degress Celcius, and issues a warning. Why does this program overheat my MBP? Any help?
    Thanks in advance.

FCPX will render the timeline while exporting hence the CPU temp rise. You can select parts of the timeline to be rendered. It might be adavatagous to render the timeline in sections and wait for the CPU to cool down and then do another render section. In the modify menu there is a RENDER SELECTION option.
Sending feedback to apple would be a good idea as it is apparent that there should be an option in the preferences to manage how much memery and CPU is used for rendering.

  • Final Cut Pro X - Interface Corrupted

I have a problem with my FCPX. For some reason when I start the program, the splash screen doesn't go away at all and the interface is somehow corrupted or loads up incomplete. When I select Restore original layout from the menu, I get almost normal view but for example Share menu is empty (and there's still that splash screen).
I already reinstalled the program once and it helped for a while but now the problem is back. Any idea what could cause this?

Try downloading FCS Remover to make sure you get rid of any and all FCP-related files before reinstalling. Wouldn't hurt to repair HD permissions after you reinstall.
    Good luck.

  • Final cut pro keyboard layout issue

Hi everybody, and thanks for your help.
I'm Italian, working in Italy, using fcp 6.0.5 with MacOSX 10.6.2 on a laptop and 10.5.x on a Mac Pro, and on both my computers I had big problems because fcp can't match with the Italian keyboard layout without some time-losing operations, that once completed, brought back fcp to normal use... lately (in the last week) this new layout I created (and saved, having to reload it EVERY time I launch fcp) started not working anymore, on both my computers, and keyboard shortcuts are almost not usable anymore. You can easily imagine what does this means in therms of time-losing and focus on the project.
Now, I'm wondering how is this possible.
I understand (but hardly accept) that Apple's top level editing software is not immediately compatible with a non-USA keyboard, but this new problem is really disappointing me. And because this is happening on TWO different computers in the same arc of time, well, this makes me think it's not depending from my operating.
Does anyone else is having the same problem lately?
I had some other reason to start thinking to move to another editing software (but more expensive), and this new issue is giving me a new reason to make the big step. But honestly, I would prefer remaining on fcp, I'm still (but I don't know for how long yet) proud to be an Apple user, even if when 15 years ago I had my Apple Macintosh maiden flight Apple was the most safe machine my hands could touch. Please, back to the future.
    Thank you,
and forgive me for the last part of this email, maybe a little off-topic.
But maybe better complaining at home that doing it outside.
    best regards,
    Stefano Bianchi.

    Hi Nick, and thanks.
Unluckily I've already knew about this option, but no result. Some tools work, some others (like zoom in/out) not.
Anyway, this would switch my system language from italian into english, not big problem, but not very professional from Apple, leaving a bug like this.
If there were technical reasons for which international keyboard layouts are not released from Apple, and you (or someone else) knew about them, may you please explain me? Knowledge will help me to revaluate Apple's operate.
    Thanks a lot.
    Best regards.
    Stefano.

  • Final Cut Pro X exporting issues

So, I'm attempting to export a video from FCPX (Version 10.0) and every time I try to export it (from any of the possible choices) it continues to give me this error message
The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDo
Any ideas on what to do?

You need to upgrade FCP X. 10.0 doesn't work with Mavericks.

  • Final Cut Pro 3 playback issues

My sister bought a copy of FCP3 seconhand and cannot seem to get it to play any video. If she tries to preview a video file, it will start playing audio, then 2 or 3 seconds later, play the video, and then everything will suddenly stop.
She is trying to use it on an iMac G5 1.6GHz with 1.25GB of ram running OS X 10.5.
FCP3 is fully up to date as is OS X.
From everything I've read, the machine should be able to handle it

Hi - So you are saying that you have captured DV, and cannot play that captured clip back in the FCP Viewer (not the Canvas)?
Control-click on the suspect clip in the bin and select Reveal in Finder. Control click on the actual file and select Open With > Quicktime player. Does the file play correctly directly in the Quicktime Player?
Go back to FCP, and Control -click on the suspect clip. Select Item Properties > Format which will open a window that will show the clip properties:
Either post a screen shot or report what the Clip Properties are,
    Thanks

  • Final Cut Express Vs. Final Cut Pro Vs. Adobe Premiere

    Hey all,
I just bought my first Apple computer and I'm loving it. I have worked with Final Cut Pro in the past and I really enjoy working with it. However, $1000 is a bit steep. I would like to ask what your opinions are on maybe getting Final Cut Express or Adobe Premiere Pro.
I have the trial of Adobe Premiere right now, but whenever I place a clip into the timeline, it needs to be rendered. This was never an issue with Final Cut on the computers at my school. I was wondering if you knew if Final Cut Express would have better rendering times and wouldnt need as much rendering. Also, it may be the graphics card in my computer. If you think this is the problem, can you provide me with a solid video/graphics card that I should look into?
    Thanks all,
    Kevin

I own all three programs actually - here's my advice.
Stay the heck away from Adobe Premiere. It is no where nearly as Mac friendly and for the price, just isn't worth it. I purchased it for the Blu-ray authoring capabilities of Encore, so that's all I use it for. The plus to Premiere is that it can edit some native formats that Final Cut Pro cannot. For example, native AVCHD as well as MPEG-2 in program streams. That being said, Encore is the best option for Blu-ray authoring at a reasonable cost that gives you the ability to modify menus, etc.
Final Cut Express is a great application - my only reason for having final cut pro was my need to edit footage at 23.98, 29.97, and 59.94 fps. FCE only handles 29.97 (and 25 fps). Final Cut Pro also gives you the ability to edit more footage natively. FCE only supports DV, HDV, and AVCHD, with the latter two being transcoded into Apple Intermediate Codec for editing. FCP supports a myriad of formats and allows native editing in HDV - although it still transcodes AVCHD. FCP also gives you access to the ProRes set of codecs which are significant improvements on Apple Intermediate Codec that offer high quality in transcoding and editing.
So the real question is, what are you going to be doing?

  • I have a Macbook Model No A1181 2.4 GHz intel core 2 Duo with 4 Gb Ram. Should I be able to instal Final Cut Pro 3.0.2 cos I'm having problems?

I have a Macbook Model No A1181 2.4 GHz intel core 2 Duo with 4 Gb Ram. Should I be able to instal Final Cut Pro 3.0.2 cos I'm having problems? As I read it My machine should be able to run the software.
    Thanks in advance

You are trying to use software that is over 10 years old. As I read it, FCP 3.0.2 required 10.1 or higher at the time, but as FCP is reliant on quicktime, which has been updated many, many times, I doubt that you will ever get it to work properly.

  • I just updated to new final cut pro x 10.1.1 and i am also on mavericks so but on my editing timeline i was trying to color grade using magic bullet looks but i am having problem with it. when it comes back to tcp x it's black.

I just updated to the new final cut pro x 10.1.1 and i am also on mavericks so but on my editing timeline i was trying to color grade using magic bullet looks but i am having problem with it. When i send a sample to MBL and color grade it , it comes back to final cut pro x all black even after render. By the way on the MBL i am using the GPU rendering, I used before like 4months ago and it was fine. And i don't like to use the CPU because it very slow.

What is the frame rate of the project? At what frame rate was the media recorded? What frame size?
    What are the audio settings?
What are the specs of the machine, in particular how much RAM, how is the hard drive connected, etc.?
If possible, post screenshots of the inspector for the project.
It could be related to the audio frequency?

  • Which firewire interface for Final Cut Pro on MacPro?

I currently own a Presonus Firepod, and it seems to work pretty well, but may sell this when I upgrade from a MacMini to a MacPro. I use my Mac for Logic Pro currently.
I anticipate running Final Cut Pro in the near future, so I'm wondering about the ability to read/generate SMPTE time code that the MOTU traveller supplies?
There will be no external mixer, so this interface will connect directly to speakers & headphones. (would be nice to be able to mute speakers and control headphone mix using just the firewire interface).
I don't anticipate needing more than 2 Mic inputs - and my current mike is a Rode NT1. (As the NT1 is not a top-of-the-line mic, unsure if I should place a lot of emphasis on worrying about the pre-ams?)
I would like decent mic preamps, and ability to graphically monitor input and output levels (is this graphic monitoring necessary, or is just the single overload indicator sufficient?).
Which interfaces in $600-$1500 range would work best with Final Cut Pro - and Logic Pro?

I saw the Traveller ads in Videography mentioning
time code, so I presumed it had an advantage over
    other interfaces.
I found this in some ad copy:
"""The Travler provides on-board SMPTE time code synchronization features that allow you to slave your Traveler system to SMPTE time code without a synchronizer. The Traveler provides a DSP-driven phase-lock engine with sophisticated filtering that provides fast lockup times and sub-frame accuracy. The included MOTU SMPTE Console software provides a complete set of tools to generate SMPTE for striping, regenerating or slaving other devices to the computer."""
So it likely uses an audio port for timecode I/O. However, unless you have external equipment that you want to slave to Logic Pro, (or have Logic slave to) e.g. a timecode DAT, then this really is not necessary. FCP would not see the Travaller as a "controllable" device.
For Final Cut Pro use, I'd probably shoot in HDV.
When shooting a green screen near my computer (or
maybe even on-site), I wondered if there would be an
advantage to recording the audio thru an interface
    like the traveller.
The advantage is that you could capture additional mics and audio tracks with your mac while the cameras shoot. Just slate your takes and sync up later.
Do I actually need an interface that provides time
code, or is that only needed for movie work?
I have SMPTE I/O on my Unitor8, directly accessable in Logic Pro. In 8 years I've probably used it twice to capture audio from some modular digital multitracks. So, unless you have some specific need.....
Maybe it is simpler just to connect to the mic
    directly to the camera's input?
Indeed. You should always have camera audio available. Anything else is supplemental. Alternatively, you could use the Travaller or RME, etc. as a "live to camera" mixer in a studio situation. Plug your mics into the interface, create a submix and send it to the camera while simultaneously capturing each mic to an individual track in Logic Pro. There are many possibilities.
