I'm having multiple issues with my 2011 intel based macbook pro

It's the i7 with the gigabyte nvidia card and a terrabyte hard drive and 4 gigs of ram i have no idea why its crapping out on my after only 6 months but when gaming my screen will randomly go to sleep and this is kinda of solved by pressing the esc key or power key but i would prefer it did not do this mid game, my mac book also starts making a loud buzzing/humming noise at random times even sometimes when the system is idle, it comes from near the left speaker (not through it)
i am not covered by warrenty and im really hoping i can fix these problems conviently or cheaply
another important note is that i am dual booting windows and mac os x

Don't install MacKeeper.
It sounds like you're having a lot of different problems. Rather than trying to troubleshoot each one, you should first boot in safe mode by restarting and holding down the shift key until the Apple logo appears. Some things won't work in safe mode, but you should at least be able to tell whether things are better or not.
If things do get better in safe mode, then at least some of your problems are being caused by third-party software you installed. If there's no improvement in safe mode, then you should back up your data and reinstall the OS.
In order to back up, you'll need another Mac in working order with a Firewire port. Start up the MBP in Firewire target mode by holding down command-T when you reboot. You can then connect it to the other Mac using a Firewire cable, and it will function as an external drive

This sounds like an error in Time Zone support. The time zone needs to be the same in Outlook as well as the phone.

Having sound issues with Mid 2011 iMac 27". It has 10.10.2 OS X.  Could this the issue and if so how do I revert to 10.7.3

It is almost impossible to diagnose sounds over the internet, however here is a link to some failing HD sounds. If one of yours be happy, at any rate take it in for service. If you got AppleCare or it's less than a year old it's covered.

  • HT4736 Taking too long (2 minutes) to locate and download photos into Photo '11 9.5 (902.7 build running on an older Intel based MacBook Pro with iPhoto libraries on a USB2 External HD).  I checked and repaired HD permissions. Any ideas?

Regarding iPhoto '11 9.5 (902.7 build running on an older Intel based MacBook Pro with iPhoto libraries on a USB2 External HD).  I am dealing with iPhoto taking too long to download photos.  Specifically, I rechecked and repaired HD permissions. I am running the most current software my five year old Intel MacBook Pro can run.   What happens is that when I connect an external SD card, or my iPhone, the new version of iPhoto takes up to two full minutes to fully acknowledge the device. Then locate new photos and be ready to download them to my external HD.  I am kind of concerned about this.  This has never happened before.
I take 20,000 photos a year.  I really don't want to lose any.  Or is there something I am doing wrong?  Or need to be aware of?  Any experienced suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.  Have a great day.
PS.... The cameras I use are Canon SX-30, Nikon D3100, and my iPhone 4S.  Thanks again for your assistance.

Hello Old Toad.... Those sound like great ideas.
I thought I checked and repaired disk permissions on my main boot HD.  That boot disk is Mac OS Extended (Journaled)  Capacity 749.3 GB.  Available 562.53 GB.   BUT.... now that I think of it.... the Seagate external HD with USB2 interface is: Mac OS Extended (Journaled), Capacity 639.79 GB, Available 36.2 GB with my latest iPhoto Library 517.37 GB that was already scanned & updated to be read by the latest iPhoto version.
I'll try your suggestions tonight as far as double checking 'permissions' and setting up a tiny test library.
Or maybe it's time to fill up another External HD?
I appreciate your and anyone else's suggestions to try.
Have a great day. ~~ David in Rochester NY

  • Having sync issues with Outlook 2011 since upgrading to Mavericks

    Hi All,
My work Macbook Pro 13" is having issues syncing my inbox and sent mail automatically. It's a hit or miss if I recieve emails in my inbox in a timely mannor with out pressing the Send/Recive button (even when i press it takes minutes to update). My Sent Items can show up an hour later  even if I hit the Send/Recieve button.
All my mail is there and shows up/syncs on my iPhone quickly. I upgraded to Mavericks right when it came out and have only been having these sync issues for the last week or so.
I've cleared my mail cache and that didn't work. My calandar reminders and contacts don't seem to have any issues and no other apps have been preforming slow or strangely.... just my VERY important work email. My tech guys are stumped and I wanted to try you guys before they do a major rehaul of my system
    Thanks!

A new Outlook Identity will most likely solve your issues. If you have any data under "On My Computer" folders, see this link:
How to move your data to a new Identity
BTW, how much free space on your drive? Use Disk Utility in Applications/Utilities to find this info. You need a minimum of 10% free but 15-20% is recommended.
Outlook gets very sluggish when you are low on disk space. If you have a bunch of older Identities from previous rebuilds you can delete these to help free up space.

  • I am having an issue with Outlook 2011 for Mac.

Emails show up in my Trash folder that are not trash or junk.  How do stop the Trash folder from snagging my emails?

I suggest you post your question on Microsoft's forums for their Mac products, as it's their software you're having issues with:  http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac

  • Having multiple issues with my MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro that I purchases new January 2013. I upgraded from Mountain to Maverick about 2 months ago, with no problems.
About 3 days ago it started acting up. It started with my not being able to open Safari, although a few hours later I could, but then the next day and since I have not been able to again. I am unable to open several other programs, such as any adobe (illustrator, photoshop, InDesign, etc.). My anti-virus program is responding (I use Web Root). The speed has drastically reduced, as well... very sluggish, which I suppose is not surprising.
I, also, am not able to restart or shutdown properly. Last night I forced a shutdown because absolutely nothing was opening. Today, I was atleast able to open Finder and other basics, such as Reminder. However, I just went to see what other's I may be able to open and now just Finder will. I cannot give specs because boxes will not stay open. They just open for about half a second.
I apologize if I am all over the place. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
PS. I believe the reason the few things that would open before are only flashing for half a second is because it is still trying to shutdown. When I tried to force a shutdown, it said that it is already shutting down, which it's been doing for about an hour now.

Unfortunately, I think that the fact that you mentioned the presence of anti-virus software has dragged this discussion a bit off course. As you say that WebRoot has been installed for a year, while the problem just started recently (and not right after upgrading to Mavericks), I don't believe that the anti-virus software has anything to do with it.
As for what the problem might be, my best guess for something with such a sudden and unexplainable onset is a dying hard drive. Do you have backups of your data? If not, that could become a very serious problem. First priority needs to be figuring out a way to back up your data.
Once your data is backed up, check the hard drive's SMART status:
If it checks out fine (ie, says "Verified"), try repairing the hard drive with Disk Utility.

  • I am having major problems with my trackpad on my macbook pro.  I can no longer press down on the bottom left and right corners for it to click and follow my command.  Please can anyone help?

I am having major problems with my track pad on my macbook pro.  Even though my settings haven't changed...my trackpad is no longer responding as it did before.  The left hand corner no longer clicks when I press it and my personal commands which I set up in preferences no longer seem to be workin.  Please help!

Some websites have an internal mute or volume setting. If that's not the issue, see below.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced ▹ Delete All...
In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
Delete All Site Data and Settings
then click Delete Data. Close the preference pane.

  • Any SSD issues with early 2009 "silent upgrade" MacBook Pro?

I was thinking about getting the 2.66ghz March 2009 version of the 15" MacBook Pro (ExpressCard slot version; model MC026LL/A). You can still find them online here and there.
Does anyone know if this version has the same freezing issues with SATA-II and SSD drives as the June 2009 versions?
Since I'd like to put in a Crucial M225 SSD, I was hoping this may be a better way to go than a June 09 version.
    Thanks
    Jason

    Hi Sunil Gubbi,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you are using or considering using Yosemite on your MacBook Pro (Late 2011).
Some Continuity features, including Handoff, require a MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 and later).
Handoff and Instant Hotspot are supported by the following Mac models, and require OS X Yosemite.
MacBook Air (Mid 2012 and later)
MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 and later)
    iMac (Late 2012 and later)
Mac mini (Late 2012 and later)
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)
You can find this information and more details about Continuity at this link:

  • Issues with Adobe Creative Cloud on MacBook Pro

The more I learn how to use the Adobe Creative Cloud products the more frustrated I become. Every day all the programs crash/ freeze multiple times and I have to force the app to quit. Exporting takes entirely too long. The Rotobrush is horribly painful to use due it being so slow and more.
Does the Adobe products just not work well with the MacBook Pro? I have a new laptop with 16gb of memory. Shouldn't that be enough to run these apps with no problems?
Any help/ pointers would be appreciated.
    David McCarter

Well, regarding the Rotobrush in AE you have to live with it - it's pretty slow  even on beefy desktop workstations which is inherent due to how it works. The rest nobody can help you with. You have not provided exact technical info, crash logs or even a descriptions of the specific workflows like program performance preferences, project setting, what files you work with etc.. Generic complaints are not in any way useful.

  • Connectivity Issues with USB 3 ports on macbook pro

Hi,  I have a zoom r24 which is no longer working as an audio interface with my new macbook pro.  I have read a lot about issues with USB 2 devices not being compatible with USB 3 ports on the macs. This seems to be midi as well as audio devices.  Can anyone recommend or point me to a list of supported devices for both audio and midi which are guaranteed to work with a late 2013 macbook pro retina display.  I cant afford a thunderbolt device.  Thanks steve

Just a wild thought here, but have you tried inserting a powered USB 2.0 hub between the MacBook and the interface?

  • Wi-Fi Connection Issues with 2 PC's and MacBook Pro on Router

Okay so here is whats going on.....
I am staying with my Mom for a short period of time. She uses Xfinity from Comcast. They provide her with a residential Home Gateway which provides her the internet and the Wi-Fi signal.
My Partner is also staying with us.
My Mom owns two PCs one runs Windows 8 and runs Windows 7 Home Premium. My Partner also runs a PC which is running Windows 7 Professional.
I have a Macbook Pro Retina Display Early 2013 release. Intel Core i5 2.6 GHz. 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
Well oddly enough I can access the internet just fine, I am right now as a matter fact. The issue is that if my partner boots up her PC her wi fi somehow kicks everyone off the internet and she cannot connect to the internet herself.
I do not know if its my settings in my MacBook Pro causing the issues or if something is wrong on her PC or my Mom's. Either way its extremely annoying. We all need to be on the internet at the same time so constantly being booted *****!
I checked and I have no new system updates available. I am currently running Mac OSX 10.9 (13A603).
The router has been power-cycled and we have done a reset on it. Its an Arris TG862 I believe. There is only one other wi fi network in the neighborhood as we are in a retirees community so chances of anything weird or someone using our wi fi is unlikely. Unless some old person is super tech savvy and bored. he he maybe tho lol.

When you say check hers to make sure it's not set to static IP whose are u referring to?? Mom's or my Partners?
And under what setting do I go to for the DHCP scope?? Advanced? What should I set it to?

  • Issues with External Displays on my Macbook Pro Retina

    Hello -
My apologies for starting a second thread back to back, but I thought I'd keep these two issues separate
I've been using two external displays off of my Macbook Pro Retina for some time - one off of the HDMI port and the other off of a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter.  Everything was absolutely perfect until the most recent update.  Immediately after that, whenever the macbook wakes up, the two external displays go into this black and white snowy mode (like the HBO logo, or that thing from poltergeist) and takes a minute or two to start working properly.  Any suggestions on how I can fix this?
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
Just browsed the forum and found a fix which solve the issue in my context: Google Chrome Play Music app was actually swallowing the media keys events, preventing iTunes to get them.
Still don't really understand why it impacts only iTunes in my case, however once the Play Music app uninstalled from Chrome via the Extensions pane of the Settings page, iTunes got its media keys events back.
    See this thread for reference:

  • New to a Mac in general and having multiple issues with iTunes - Help?

So I bought my first mac for design/marketing uses (flyers, video etc) and figured I'd consolidate my wife and I's iTunes stuff to it as well...So far most things are done but I have a few snags.
In moving everything over I knew I would end up with a lot of duplicates, we both had a lot of the same music via the CD's we own. The process I did was I connected the external drives from my machine and my wifes machine to the Mac which already had an external blank 200GB drive connected to it and iTunes was setup to use that drive as the music folder location. I then added all the music from the external drives from my machine and wifes machine to iTunes one at a time. I then imported the library playlists etc and changed the path in the files from "M:\itunes music\" to "file://localhost/music" ... This worked, all playlists are back and work.
For handling duplicates on my windows machines in the past I would sort to show duplicates then would go through selecting all duplicates (using ctrl key to select a lot at a time) then delete those in iTunes, it would ask to delete the file and I always had it delete the files because the files themselves were always duplicated (those file being songname1.mp3, songname2.mp3 etc). This worked for the windows machines...not so much for the mac. Apparently the mac didn't duplicate all actual files and instead created duplicate entries based on the same file in a lot of cases.
    Snags:
It looks like the duplicates the mac is showing sometimes are showing multiple entries in iTunes for the same physical file, so If I delete the file, I'm deleting the only copy of the song. Sometimes though there are songname1.mp3, songname2.mp3 etc...This makes it extremely difficult to kill out the duplicates because now I have to look to see what file every duplicate is looking at before deciding to delete file or not...I would be sitting here for weeks on end to do that! I need a better solution.
Second snag that I think is related to the first. My iTunes library is showing 213GB's worth of music being stored on the 200GB drive. I think this is due to the duplicate entries using the same file...The library should be more around 140GB's. I just want to confirm this is indeed the issue or know if there is another place a mac would try to store itunes music if the music folder fills up?

OS Version: Mac OS X 10.9.2 (13C1021)   < from your report
The report indicates your Mac is running v10.9.2. So you need to update your OS X software.
Click the Apple  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.
That will update your Mac to OS X 10.9.4
Restart your Mac after the update is installed then try Mail.
Very important to keep your system software up to date for security.
