I'm having trouble with internet radio thru Airport Express with itunes 7.

The new itunes 7 is working okay for me except for one thing. For some reason I have a buffering problem between my computer and my Airport Express when I feed internet radio to it. Playing it through my computer speakers works just fine. Normal itunes music files seem to be okay either way. This started happening when I installed itunes 7. I have reset the base station and it hasn't improved things. Is it just coincidence? Anyone got any clues?

Same problem here. Some streams are playing correctly and others play in a strange manner, like a mix.
I also got this problem with iTunes 7. I hope that Apple will fix it in a future update so that I can listen to every station over my Airport Express.

  • Loss of internet connection thru airport express

    Hi
Every time I download software updates I lose my internet connection.
I then have great difficulty in re-connecting. I have tried using the lock on the network connections to keep the settings , but for some reason the lock is unlocked after a period of time even though I have not requested it. I suspect that there may be a conflict between the keychain access and the airport express but I cannot prove this for sure. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Lost connections, slow connections and difficulty connecting can all be due to a noisey phone line. I have a dedicated modem line that was giving me all of these problems. I connected a phone to it and listened, the the noise was terrible. Turns out the phone line was rubbing against a tree and shorting out a half mile away. Now it's fixed, and works great.

  • Help- WDS with Extreme-N & 2x Airport Express with ~ 40% packet loss

So this problem is driving me crazy. I recently moved into a house that has enough metal in the walls (don't ask) to prevent me from using a single base station so I expanded my network as a WDS utilizing an Airport Extreme (mixed NGB mode) and two Airport Express (one as a relay and one as remote). The configuration appears to work normally some times but other times (especially evenings) I get a very high rate of dropped packets between the client notes (which are connected through the WDS-enabled Expresses) and the base station (using a simple ping 10.0.1.1 to check connectivity to the APBS-N). The problem manifests itself from a users' perspective as very long DNS lookups which causes slow page loads in a browser but it's very reproducible via ping.
So far I've tried changing the channels on the network but I haven't seen a huge payoff there. iStumbler reports no additional networks on channel 2 which I'm using, there are some on channel 1, 5, and 13. I've also tried channels 7 and 11. We have no microwave in the house and our cordless phone (5.8ghz) never interrupted with our simpler Express-based network at our old house, n/m the fact that the phone is never in use when we have this problem.
I don't seem to see the problem when I'm local to (in the same room as) the AEBS; it really seems to happen only when I'm on the WDS-enabled remote and/or relay.
Other data points that may help are that the AEBS-N drops out of the Airport utility at the same time. Sometimes isn't gone for 30 seconds, other times for > 30 minutes. The other base stations continue to report "Green" in that they are not having any WDS problems. If I disconnect the remote node the relay will correctly reflect a status of yellow, so I know it somewhat works.
It's an open network (no encryption, open SSID) so it's unlikely that there's an issue there.
Clients include an Apple TV, iBook G4, MacBook, Tivo Series 3, Intel Mini and Dell Latitude D810. Because of the diversity of clients I don't think it's a driver or NIC adapter issue on any of the clients.
Does anyone have any experience working in a similar environment? Suggestions on troubleshooting packet loss (or other performance issues) in a WDS network?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Hello errorsupply. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I suggest downloading a copy of iStumbler. Use iStumbler's Inspector feature (select Edit > Inspector from iStumbler's menu) to determine the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) at different points around your house, by performing a simple RF site survey. Within the Inspector, note the values for "signal" & "noise" at these locations. Start with your MacBook near the main base station, note the readings, and then, choose the locations where you have the relay and remote base stations.
SNR is the signal level (in dBm) minus the noise level (in dBm). For example, a signal level of -53dBm measured near an access point and typical noise level of -90dBm yields a SNR of 37dB, a healthy value for wireless LANs.
The SNR, as measured from the MacBook, decreases as the range to the base station increases because of applicable free space loss. Also an increase in RF interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones, which increases the noise level, also decreases SNR.
    SNR Guideline
    o 40dB+ SNR = Excellent signal
    o 25dB to 40dB SNR = Very good signal
    o 15dB to 25dB SNR = Low signal
    o 10dB to 15dB SNR = Very low signal
    o 5dB to 10dB SNR = No signal
If the SNR is 20dB+ at each of these locations, then you should be getting reasonable performance from your AirPorts. If less, either try to locate/eliminate the source of the Wi-Fi interference or try relocating the relay and/or remote base station until they are within a 20dB SNR range of the main (and for the remote, of the relay).

Having trouble accessing internet with new wireless WRT54G. Used easylink to read existing router BEFSR41 which works great to westell modem provided by Verizon. When connect new router Easylink configures WRT54G but when trying to connect to internet...fails. All lites indicate good. Not using wireless device yet, just the wired ethernet. Router set up as DHCP.
I keep going back to old router and works great every time. Help!

Thanks for response, however I tried setting unit to 192.168.2.1 (leaving DHCP) to no avail. I put my old unit (BEFSR41) back in and I'm back up. I need to sit back and decide which way to go on this. Perhaps it's defective and I should return it.

Having trouble setting up a linksys WRT54GS router with verizon DSL using a westell 6100F modem. the modem works fine by its self  but the router will not connect  to the internet when installed like the cd tells you to.
online help and phone help has been less than helpful,  anyone have any Ideas?

Ok I found " Installing the liksys wireless router with a westell 6100 modem" in the verizon troubleshooting guides. printed the instructions so I would'nt forget. step 1 open your web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address field.  PROBLEM it comes up with a login screen that I don't know how to sign into. tried the obvious stuff. cannot get past the login screen. I knew this sounded to easy to be true. anyone have any ideas?

  • Changing volume with internet radio on E63

I've got some channels saved in my favourites but can't figure out how to change the volume. With FM, it's obvious but not so (to me anyway!) with internet radio.
Can anyone advise me how to change the volume? Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply.

  • Where is internet radio in Windows version of iTunes?

I can no longer find internet radio stations, only the newest iTune store type, which is of little interest to me.  Anybody know if it is possible to recover it.  I have a Windows & (64 bit) and iTunes11.1.3.8?  Apparently what works with OS versions does not always work in Windows.

Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.

  • Replacing an Airport Express with a Time Capsule but it won't connect to the internet.

Hello, I hope somebody can help.
I am trying to replace an Airport Express with a 2TB Time Capsule but it won't connect to the internet, via an ADSL modem.
I have tried everything I can think of, powering down all devices, re-setting all devices, but nothing seems to solve the problem.
When I first tried to set up the Time Capsule, there was an option to replace the Airport Express using the same settings.
But there were repeated error messages of 'No DNS Servers' and 'PPPoE server couldn't be found'.
I also had messages that the password for PPPoE wasn't correct, but when I plug the Airport Express back in again, everything works fine.
    What could the problem be?

99% of issues with authentication are wrong password or wrong username.. eg it can be strange like the user name is missing the domain.. whereas the Airport Express works fine without it.
Ring your ISP and make doubly sure you have exactly the correct username and password.
If it still doesn't work, put the adsl modem back into router mode and try it again directly on the modem.. if it works ok on the modem but fails on the TC that is possible and can be caused by pppoe client using incorrect authentication type, CHAP or PAP which the TC does not allow you to select AFAIK.. some ISP do not give enough time to get the router to switch on auto to the correct authentication method.
In the end run the modem as router and bridge the TC. It will work just as well for most installations in bridge as the modem in bridge.

  • Problem with not getting Internet Connect on AirPort Express

Problem with not getting Internet Connect on AirPort Express (version7.6.4). Error says cannot get valid IP address. Have reset Siemens SpeedStream 4100 several time, even with tech support from the big "A" DSL provider. Plug MacBook Pro directly into modem and works fine. Unplugged AirPort, even reset it, still no luck. A bad Express?? or am not looking in the right place to make connection. Was working fine up until Sunday.

Connect the AirPort Express (AX) to the cable modem via Ethernet cable.
In configuring the AX using AirPort Utility:
Under Internet, set the connection to be Ethernet using DHCP.
Under Connection Sharing, set it to distribute a range of IP addresses.
Under AirPort>Wireless, set the Wireless Mode to Create a wireless network, and fill in the remaining settings in the same window. Until you get it working, you might want to set Wireless Security to None.

  • Trying to set up Airport Express with Ethernet Powerline adapters

    Hello,
Having some problems trying to set up my Airport Express with Netgear ethernet powerline adapters.
I want to set up as follows:
Wireless Belkin router --- powerline <---> powerline --- airport express --- home stereo system
The problem I have is that I can connect the airport x in client mode & wirelessly play music using airtunes (until the sound breaks up) but itunes does not find the airport x when connected via the powerlines.
I have airport admin utility configured as follows:
    Airport tab:
Wireless mode: create a wireless network
Wireless network name: same as my wireless router SSID
Allow this network to be extended: unticked
    radio mode: 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)
    Channel: automatic
Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 personal (as per my router)
Wireless Password: as per my router
Verify Password: as per my router
    Internet tab:
    Connect using: ethernet
    Connection sharing: off (bridge mode)
    Music tab:
    Enable Air Tunes ticket
    no password set
In iTunes, I have home sharing on & share entire library selected with no password set.
    Using OS 10.6.5 & Airport Express 7.5.2
I can ping the IP address of the airport express when connected via the powerlines but cannot select the speakers in iTunes (they are greyed out).
    Any assistance would be appreciated....
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Thanks for the quick response...
As suggested, I connected up the Airport X to the Belkin and plugged in a pair of headphones. It didn't work, still could not select the Airport X as speakers.
Dug out my old Netgear DG834G and connected that up in place of the Belkin - it worked. Next connected in the Netgear powerlines and it still worked.
So, the problem is the relatively new Belkin F7D4401 router.
Looks like I will have to find an alternative 802.11n...
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards
    Simon

  • Can I use my iPhone hotspot for internet through the airport express?

I want to use the airport express with the internet from my iPhone hotspot without a regular ISP

    Lahoman wrote:

You may be having problems with your battery. However, they were not caused by using your iPad charger. The iPad charger is compatible with the iPhone and can safely be used with it. If your phone is less than a year old, you may want to take it to your nearest Apple Store and have them take a look at it. If the battery is not functioning correctly, they will replace it for you.

  • Airport Express with Time Warner DSL

A friend just had her Time Warner DSL setup but she really wants wifi in her house. They want to charge her another $50 setup and then $10 more per month. They did say we could just setup our own network by plugging a router into the modem. Can I do this with an Airport Express or do I need to use an Extreme?
And the router mode would be set to DHCP and NAT?

    Hello
I am having similar issues setting up my Airport Express.
I have the TWC Cable Modem with built in WIFI. All of that is working fine.
I have connected my ethernet cable ( itested and it has a internet connection) to the WAN port on the AE and plugged it in. After a few moments the light flashes amber.
When I run the Airport Utility from my Mac, it says "Examing..." and then says "An unexpected error occurred. Try again"
I have tried many times, and even reset the AE using the button on the back.
    I am at a loss.
Can you help me diagnose further or try an alternative method?
    thanks in advance.

  • Apple AirPort Express with Airtunes and Netgear WPN824v2 Router

I'm having some trouble getting the AirPort Express with Airtunes to connect to a Netgear WPN824v2 network.
    Details:
    - Router: Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router WPN824v2
    - Wireless Network Security: WEP
    - Computer: MacBook Pro
    - OS: OS X 10.4.10
    - AirPort card in computer: this works fine - no problems
    - AirPort Express with Airtunes: the setup routine goes OK, but then the unit cannot connect to the wireless network; the light blinks amber.
Could the problem relate to the password (Hex versus ASCII) or perhaps WEP versus WPA?
Any / all suggestions welcome. Thanks.

sonicdubster, Welcome to the discussion area!
Are you following the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode?
Is the AirPort Express (AX) placed in an area where it can receive a good wireless signal from the Netgear?
Does the AX connect if you disable wireless encryption?
WPA (or WPA2) is much more secure and less troublesome than WEP. If all of your equipment supports WPA, I would switch to WPA.
