I'm hoping to post a video

Just made this video about a very boring bridge.   Because I'm in UK, I exported it in PAL format, but I think it will play on computers(?)   (NTSC plays on pc's in the UK tho' not on TV sets.)
It's not exactly a first effort cos I did others working thru Steve's Lynda.com course, and Jan Ozer's Classroom book, but it's my longest (and most boring) yet.
I've uploaded it to my Dropbox and hope you can access it from there, 'cos I'm looking for critical review (of a relatively gentle kind to start
I used a Canon 650D  DSLR without a tripod, but with one of those loupe thingies that attach to the back of the camera, magnifies the 'live view' and also steadies the camera to some extent against the forehead -- also the lens was Canon EFS 18 - 135 mm with image stabilizer.  Canon advises against zooming while filming.   BTW, I've just ordered Richard Harrington's "Creating DSLR Video" -- I watched some of his conversation-tutorials with his colleage, whose name escapes me at this late hour ... So I'm hoping I'll learn to take better videos.   Even PE11 can't make great movies out of bad clips.
The link to the video is

BTW for reasons of space, I'll probably leave it there only for a month -- I mention this so that anyone coming across the link in the future wont get one of those dreaded 'not found' messages.

Thanks for kind comments Bill.  Actually I edited out a lot more wobbly stuff before rendering.  But as you might have intuited, the video wasn’t meant to be a finished work of art, it was simply to show that I could indeed open projects and process them and that my computer could handle PE11.   (And hence – of course – the probably incomprehensible note about the hapless cyclist stealing my .prel files  )   I’m still  not entirely certain that I’ve solved the problem about opening “Recent Projects” – I got around this one by taking the 3 or so minutes of clips I had and putting them ALL together on the timeline, as distinct from attempting to edit each 8- or 10-second clip separately.  (I think that’s what you might have suggested I do anyway, but I’ve got to re-read that note you made.)
Yes of course I should have edited out that banding stuff but by then it was about 2 a.m. and I just wanted to get the wretched thing over and out.
Re the links, I can’t explain that – the tinyurl is simply the clever piece of work, by a mathematician surely, that reduces the first longer URL (as you all know, sorry).   If the 2nd link works, the 1st one should too, no?  It worked for me.  Perhaps it just doesn’t travel well.
I used (this afternoon in freezing weather) a different lens – Canon’s 40mm (ie equiv to 64 mm fullframe) prime lens, fast at f2.8.   The problem I’ve found with it is that it has no image stabilization so one has to be extra careful.
I’ve  not worked on it yet, but I doubt I’ll post the ducks and geese – unless I can make a funny cartoon out of it (I really like PE11’s cartoon effects).   And the access to SmartSound is a terrific bonus.  Amazing bit of software.
BTW, just received Steve Grisetti’s book.  My knowledge should now increase exponentially.
Thanks again for your continued encouragement, understanding and support.
From an oul codger in freeeezing Britain .........

  • Video's are missing and can not post any video's and can no longer see on Facebook after upgrading mac software.  Facebook says content is unavailable.  Is this a facebook issue or is there something that I can do to fix on my mac.

Video's are missing from facebook album under photo's.  It shows that I have 99 and only shows 24.  These are not copyright problems.  I have had them up for years.  Now, I can not post any video's  too.  Message says that content is currently unavailable. It seemed to happen after I upgraded to 10.7.5 but it could be coincidental.  Of course, I have not got any email from facebook to help with this problem and I am really frustrated that I can not find my video's and post any new ones anymore.  Any help would be appreciated.

I would like to add that Comcast is my internet provider. Perhaps that is part of the issue although the Connection Doctor confirms the mail box is connecting to the internet. No other function processes when Connection Doctor program is used to find the source of the issue. I have read forum posts but am unable to find a way to get my Apple mail to be delivered to my computer. It worked fine up until I chose to transfer mail to the Cloud. My mail account is a .mac account.
Still hoping someone out there can help me.

  • When posting a video to Facebook from Camera app, how can I see the upload progress?

Normally I use the ProCamera app to upload photos and videos from my iPhone 5S but I'm having trouble with it lately so I switched the standard Camera app to post a video to Facebook. I know it successfully posted, I received a notification after a while but is there any way to tell the progress of an upload in Camera? ProCamera displays an uploading message at least but I don't see anything in the Camera app.

Did you have 'find my iPhone' activated on it? Because if you go to iCloud.com you can log in there and you can remotely lock or wipe your device.  From what I hear, the police won't do anything about going and fetching stolen iPads and iPhones, but if you have find my iphone/ipad/ipod/mac turned on then it will give you a map of where it is.
Just keep in mind that sometimes iTunes does ask you for your password regardless, and only a few weeks ago apple brought in security questions, so everyone had to fill in security questions for their iTunes account to make it more secure If all else fails, ring Apple cusomer support and they might be able to bar your account or something, however you may have to make a new account (the might be able to set it up so you have all your previous information on a new account)
    Hope this helps!

do I have to use code in order to post my video on itunes?
Is there a uploader app than can help me avoid having to write a tremendous amout of code just to upload ONE film?
    thank you
    Al

You can not upload your videos to iTunes.  iTunes podcasting section is just a directory of Podcast RSS feeds.
You will need to go to a 3rd party host such as Libsyn.com to upload your videos and then take the RSS feed from your libsyn account and submit that to iTunes.

  • How to post a video podcast

I have audio podcasts but how do I post a video podcast to iTunes

The same way you do the audio file - just upload the file to your current host - If they support video - and the post the episode just like you would audio.
Some Hosts are audio only - but other podcast hosts - like libsyn.com - do support both Audio and video files.

  • 848P Neo-LS No Post, No Video, Died

I've been reading the last few threads dealing with this issue.
My run down has been pretty much the same except the last portion where the power supply died..
1.Turned on machine, No Post No Video
2.Checked Monitor pins, plugged into alt computer Monitor works.
3.Put a pci video card to check video, same result.
4.Cleared Bios settings, rebooted same result
5.Cleared CMOS put everything back together.  No nothing, power supply nothing responds.
6.Spend 4 hours going through threads with similiar problems.
From what i've read my power supply is dangerously low.  Especially on the 12 volt rails? amperage is only 16.  New to this power supply amps/watts. Sounds like the PS is probably dead, i'm going to do futher testing on it.
This seems to be one work around  but looks like massive pain for people who don't have acces to other cpus.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=49763&sid=&threadview=0&hilight=&hilightuser=0&page=2
Another thread talks about the cpu being possibly bad
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=43958&sid=&threadview=0&hilight=&hilightuser=0&page=3
Although everything i've read seems to point away from this being a power supply issue, as once a person replaces it they have the same exact problem.
I've also read about people rma'ing there boards, to come up with the same exact problem.
Is there a direct problem relating to the p4 2.8 and Neo-ls series motherboards?
Has anyone else had any experiences with this problem?  Any other ideas?
What power supply do you guys recommend?
Should I just scrap this mobo and go for something different? If so then what do you suggest?

Your power supply isn't on if the fan isn't running. With an ATX power supply it does have to be connected to the board, and the board has to be connected to the case Power switch. Obviously the power supply switch itself must be on.
This link shows what to jumper to test the power supply without connecting it to anything:

  • Can't post pics +video together to Mobile me?

Hi. I have a new 3GS. It won't allow me to post a video with a pic to mobile me at the same time.
also, won't let me post more then one video to mobile me at the same time...
It lets me select them, just not publish...is this normal?

You can only upload one photo or one video to MobilMe at a time from the iPhone. If you want to transfer more, sync the photos to a recent version of iPhoto (using iTunes to do the syncing), then transfer them from iPhoto. (This assumes you're working on a Mac, of course.)

  • 970A G46 No post no video

New build can't get system to post or display any video: using an AMD X3 720 CPU, Sapphire 4650, GSkill Ripsaw DDR3 F3 14900cl 8gbxl x2, a Corsair 430 PS.
When I power on the 4 led on MOBO come on, all fans (CPU, Case, PS) on except the video card. So I swapped out the video card for a known working one  twice with same result. Once same make and model and once with older ATI card.
Started systematic swapping of parts one by one. I changed the PS, video card, Ram,  installed Ram one x one tried different video slot, sent the MOBO & ram back got new MOBO and ram installed it with same result no post no video display. Have checked all the pwr connections, both 8 & 24 pin installed, none needed on video card. Taken everything out of the case and tried it outside the box with no change. The only thing I can't do is swap CPU as other box is WinTel and don't have another AMD MOBO. I'm Stumped!

As you swapped anything else the cpu seems to be bad... See if any friend or workmate also has an AMD system to test it.

  • Press power button, No post, No Video. 20 seconds later power button flashes many different colors

Hi, Hope someone can be of help here.  Working with one of the newer A135's w/ vista.  Plugged in all looks good, charging light and all but when you press the power button all looks good at first but about 20 seconds into unit powered up, no post, no video no nothing I get the power light bar changing colors, it goes from dark blue to light blue to orange to amber to green and starts all over again.  It appears that there are not too many people with the same problem so only actual support would be appreciated.  I can solder to component level so if anyone has a schematic and area of potential search for the bum chip it would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello Chatbox,
I can understand your issue very well, as there is no message comes on the screen which gives you information to plug the power adapter and prevent the laptop to get shut down.
You should install Power Manager software and then customize it as per your requirement.
The software can be download from the mentioned below web link.
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/8mu417ww.exe
Hope, after this laptop will not shut down automatically due to battery backup
    Best Regards,

  • How Do I Post AVCHD Video To The Web?

I have a video recorded on the SDHC card in my Panasonic HDC-SD1 AVCHD. Once I get the import into iMovie 08 fixed (please see my 2/18/08 post), I need the fewest conversions possible (hopefully none or only 1) to retain as high as quality as possible to get the video to an "Internet-friendly" format so I can post it to my website (not .mac account, utube, etc..just regular web site).
What is the best way? For example, can I just import into iMovie08 and export to some mpeg format? BTW, by "Internet-friendly", I specifically mean one of these formats: avi, mpg, mpeg, asf, mov, mp4, or wmv.
I tried export to iTunes, but in iTunes the resolution was horrible (unless someone knows of specific settings). iTunes would be a good way, if the resolution is high-quality, as both Mac and PC users will need to see the video.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Meanwhile, let me ask it this way: for an AVCHD video sitting on an SDHC card on my Panasonic SD1, what's the best combination of highest quality resolution, to put on the web?
I personally would stick with 1280x720, 640x360, or 320x180 for general use depending on the target audience, their ISP bandwidth, your personal idea of what constitutes "minimum acceptable quality," how much time and effort you are willing to invest in your project, etc, etc., etc. I often deal with clips 40, 50, 60, or 70 plus years old. My idea of "minimum acceptable quality" is rather liberal. I also don't care if others view my work or not since most of it is either for my own use (iPhone, iPod, and TV) or for use by my family members and so I don't cater to the codecs in which others want to see my content.
For example, which format would be the best one to use on the web?
As previously stated, I prefer H.264/AAC as having the widest range of uses. Rather than attempting to say the same thing in different words, why don't you use the QT Player "Open URL..." option to paste the URL of the referenced QT HD trailer which I have re-exported at the same dimensions but using lower settings more compatible with high-speed ISP access. The data rate is about 1.6 Mbps and is borderline on my ISP. (I.e., It plays fine when internet traffic is light but lags a bit during the evening hours.) In any event, take a look at it and see if it is what you would call minimally acceptable. If not then you may wish to use smaller display dimensions but keep similar data rates for enhanced quality. (I.e., this is as large as I would dare to go on the internet.)
    http://homepage.mac.com/jrwalker4/.Public/Shrek The Third.mp4
You specified how AVI is an antique, so what would be the best, keeping good resolution? I agree that I'd like to see something come directly from H264 as source format, but what about final desitination? WMV? MPG, MPEG, MOV, MP4, etc?
There still seems to be a bit of misunderstanding between us. Your AVCHD starts as an AVC/AC3 file encapsulated in an MPEG-2 container. Basically, you can't do anything with it in this form. Therefore you must convert it to a "conversion and edit compatible" compression format like AIC/AIFF which Voltaic, iMovie '08, FCE, or Studio can do. Once in that format, you have the option of converting it directly to a web compatible format or edit it in any of the mentioned video editors and then converting it to your target web compatible compression format.
In my case, I would convert it back to H.264 video but with AAC audio. This combination offers very high quality and small file size as stated above. On the other hand, being a very modern and highly efficient compression format (i.e. why it was selected for storage of your original HD content and then placed in an MPEG-2 container to reduce transfer bandwidth), it takes more time to encode. Further, it is integrated into and optimized for use on your Mac. WMV is similarly biased for use on Windows platforms, is not "native" to the Mac, and requires you purchase additional software to use it. (I.e. either $49-$179 for Fip4Mac which allows you to use WMV9, or $23 for the older version supplied by Visual Hub) It is not what I would use, but if you are target Windows viewers it may be a better choice for you and a decision to be made on your own.
With regard to MPG and MPEG-2, these are also older formats which require higher data rates (i.e., larger files) to produce equivalent quality to H.264 (or WMV9) or be used with smaller dimensions to keep file size down. Basically, MPG (used for VCD) was replaced by MPEG-2 (DVD and Satellite compression) which is about equal to MPEG-4 (encodes much faster than MPEG-2) which in turn is being replaced by MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) for HD formats which generally require 6-7 times the space of SD formats. So, while MPG (MPEG-1) is still quite common on the internet, it is generally restricted to 320x180 for online use. MPEG-2, while it offers better resolution and larger displays, still require minimum data rates greater than most ISPs offer or mean you have to use custom settings with reduced dimensions which may create problems with some players (not to mention timecode problems on Mac platforms which also require properly "closed" files. In addition, these formats do no offer "progressive" caching/viewing as do the newer formats like MPEG-4 and H.264. (I.e., you can't start viewing an online move before it is cached to your computer it.)
Would I have great resolution if I used iMovie 08, imported from camera to iM08, then went to Share, to QuickTime, then leave iMovie08 to go to QTPro where I'd import the video and then export to one of the above formats?
If I were to perform any form of editing in iMovie '08, my work flow would be to import from the camcorder to iMovie '08 at 960x540, perform the editing, and export to my target output using the "Export using QT" option for optimum settings at a maximum display of 960x540. On the other hand, if no editing was to be done, I would import the files to my hard drive, use Voltaic to convert to 720p AIC/AIFF and then use either MPEG Streamclip or QT Pro to encode my file for use the web at a maximum of 1280x720 using optimum settings for desired level of quality. What I would not do is export from iMovie '08 only to turn around and re-export the file in QT Pro. (I.e., if you want to use QT Pro on a file imported by iMovie '08, just open the "Event" clip in QT Pro and export directly from QT Pro.)
Would I be able to get great resolution without super large file? This is a 10 minute video so I really need to watch my file size here.
If the sample file I referenced above were 10 minutes in length, it would likely be between 110 MBs and 120 MBs in size for the same quality and same dimensions. Do you consider this a large file? If you do, then you will likely wish to use smaller dimensions and a lower data rate -- e.g., 72-80 MBs for a 640x360 at roughly 1.0 Kbps or 36-40 MBs for a 320x180 at roughly 500 Kbps. Other formats like MPEG-1, MPEG-2, or MPEG-4 would require files roughly 2.0-2.5 times as large for similar levels of quality.

  • Posting Streaming Video on Wiki

    Hey all,
Anyone know how to post a streaming video on a wiki? Do I have to set it up for podcast, or can I just upload it to the main wiki page like I would any other document?
    Thanks
    Pat

    Hi,
I played around with some quicktime streaming when I first set up a test server on my home network.
I put the same movie in as a linked file and an embedded movie. As a linked file, clicking on the link opens Quicktime and the movie plays outside the web browser. As an embedded file the movie plays within the wiki, but it was quite jumpy under my setup.
Here is the code from my wiki page:

  • Post - Processing Video Data From NetStream

Is it possible to intercept video data from a NetStream object and do some custom post-processing say 'deblocking  on decoded data  or decryption on encoded content' etc. The Sound class provides access to the SampleData but i havent been able to find the Video class providing similar support. Am i missing something or is this inherently impossible
    Thanks in advance
    Sunil M

I managed to perform video post-processing through alchemy some time ago.  I think I drew the video to a BitmapData object, converted the pixels to a bytearray with getPixels() to read them, and then updated the contents with setPixels() straight from alchemy's memory bytearray every frame.  Just watch out for endianness.
Really, I imagine video postprocessing would be better suited for a pixel bender filter than alchemy code, and in general it is definitely not something flash player is designed to do.
