I'm in New York, NY. Siri thinks I'm in New York, TX

I'm trying to ask Siri for a weather forecast. I say, "What's the weather forecast for today?" Siri tells me it's going to be 93 degrees, which is weird. That can't be right. I tap on the yahoo thing and I find out she's giving me the forecast for New York, TX instead of New York, NY. I try again, specifying "What's the weather for New York, New York?" Siri seems to understand because she tells me it's going to be nice in "New York City" today. But it's the same Texas forecast. My current location and home address are both in New York, NY. Also my weather widget in Notification Center is the correct location.
Any ideas?

Same thing happened to me. It doesn't even matter if you ask explicitly for the weather in NYC.
I asked for the weather in "New York City" and got the results for New York, TX.
I then asked for the weather in "New York City, New York" and got the same results for New York, TX.
Than I asked "What is the weather today in New York City in the state of New York?" and got the weather for New York, TX.
I asked for "Manhattan, New York" and got the weather for TX.
But when I asked for the weather in Brooklyn... I got the weather for Brooklyn, OH.
Pretty impressive.

  • Siri thinks I have two wives

Siri asked if I wanted it to remember that the contact listed as Rosie was my wife. So in the future I could simply refer to her as my wife and Siri would know who I am talking about. but then I changed the name on my wife's profile. Since Siri could no longer find her, I had to tell it that the new profile was "my wife". Now siri thinks I have two wives. When I say, "call wife", Siri asks, "which wife"? Needless to say, this doesn't sit well with my wife and it draws odd looks from people when I'm in public. How do I cancel the association Siri made with the now non-existent contact as "my wife"?

Siri creates relationships based on the contact you have for YOU.  You told Siri who YOU were in Settings->General->Siri tap 'My Info.  You could delete YOU in the contacts and start over.  Create a contact for YOU again and then link YOU in Siri (Settings->General->Siri tap 'My Info). I've found that when I had the problem and a few of my friends as well, it was due to multiple ME contacts.  Usually happens when you have more than one address books such as iCloud and Exchange or Google etc.  I found when I went into each contact for ME I had two "spouse" contacts and thus Siri asked me which one?  If you can't find it then the only suggestion I have is to delete the contact stored for yourself and then start over. I would search for YOU delete and then search for YOU again. Keep going until there are no more contacts for YOU. Create a new contact for YOU and then link in Siri (Settings->General->Siri tap 'My Info).

  • Siri thinks i am outside the U.S

Why does Siri think I am outside the U.S. I am in the U.S.

  • Siri thinks my wife's phone is my phone?

i change it to think it was hers. then mine thinks its hers also. i think its because we have the same icloud acount but dont know how to correct the problem. please help me!!

If you are on the same iCloud account your iCloud data will be merged and appear on both devices.  To fix this one of you needs to migrate to a separate account.  To do this, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted, enter the password for the current iCloud account when prompted, then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create the new account and choose Merge to upload the data to the account.  Once you are both on separate accounts you can each go to icloud.com, sign into your account and delete the other person's data.
Also, if you are sharing the same ID for iMessage and/or FaceTime you will end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.  To fix this, one of you should go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a separate ID.  Then do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

  • Siri thinks I'm my father

It calls me by my fathers name. I tell Siri to set my name as home, but it responds that I have to do it through Contacts. How? I don't see anything in Contacts that let's me set location. I even changed my dads contact for his home phone as "main" and now when I say "Phone home" it won't dial my folks, but it still asks me if I want to dial that "main" number.

I figured this out by myself. I didn't have a contact for myself and "home", so I can only guess that Siri took my folks contact with the same last name and labeled it "home" when I first started up with the 4S.
There are Siri options under Settings/General/Siri I found upon further exploration. I changed My Info to a contact I made for myself with my home info. This worked and I am no longer my dad.

  • Siri thinks im in the u.s but im in the u.k how do i change this

    Settings/Location Services/Siri
Make sure that it is on so he knows where you are.
Also, Settings/General/Siri/Language to set him to the UK so he can understand your regional accent and jargon, also otherwise, in the US he is a she.

  • How do you say "Directions" to Siri?

How do you say "directions" to Siri?  No matter how I say it, Siri will say "I'm sorry Peter, but I don't know what you mean by "direct actions"". Or, Siri will say "I'm sorry Peter but I don't know what you mean by "diet actions"".
Here is another one.  How do you say "airport"?  Siri thinks that I am saying Apple.  So, if I ask "give me directions to the airport" it will give me directions to Apple in Cupertino.
I know that Siri is STILL in beta, but come on!  I cannot even go to an Apple store with this, because I am using T-Mobile (I've had an unlocked iPhone 5 since the day it was released, last November) and Apple stores are surrounded by aluminium and they do not yet have the T-Mobile repeater!

    Hey pforkes,
We have a troubleshooting article for Siri that you can find here:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Siri
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4079
I'd take a look at the section titled "Ensure that Siri can clearly hear you," which might help you out. We also have a more general About Siri article that provides some tips for using it.
    Hope that helps,
    David

  • Does Siri have a character limit when composing emails?

    Hello,
I have been trying to use Siri to get some emails done while I'm driving. I can start the email okay, I can get the "Subject" just fine, and I can get into the body of the message just fine. However, as I start dictating the body of my email, Siri will interrupt me in the middle of speaking and ask me if I am ready to send it. This will happen when I am mid-sentence---literally.
I'm wondering----is this because I have reached some sort of character limit that I'm not aware of, and once that limit is reached you can't do anything except send it? I say "period" and "comma" as I'm speaking, but there is no long pause to make Siri think I'm done speaking. I am speaking the entire time, and Siri interrupts me mid-sentence and mid-word right in the middle of me speaking.
Any idea what's going on? Thanks!

The limits are the same-hardware and software-and refer to the ability to address the memory.
If you have a 32bit operating system, it's limited by the same 4GB limit (2^32=4,294,967,296).
If you have a 64bit operating system (such as OS X Tiger) running on a 64bit computer, it's theoretically limited to about 17 Billion GB.
So, with Tiger, you're not likely to run into a memory limit anytime soon.

  • Siri - phoenetic name issues

I’ve been trying to get Siri to differentiate between my wife’s name, “Bec” and my banks name “B.E.C.U.”. However, every time I ask Siri to “call Bec”, it dials the bank and every time I ask Siri to call B.E.C.U., it puts up "Bec you" and directs me to my wife's contact info. This VERY frustrating.
I’ve tried to add a pronunciation in the phonetic pronunciation field but nothing seems to work. I put in “Beck” for Bec and “be-ee-see-you” and "B. E. C. U." for the bank. I also tried to change the banks name to "Bank BECU" but I get exactly the same results. Every once in a while Siri thinks I say "back" and directs me to local hotels (which doesn't make sense). Even if I ask Siri to call “my wife”, she asks for her name and I get the same result as above.
    How can I fix this?

Is you carrier Verizon?  If so, try this:
Open the phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.
When the system answer press 1 for "Program or activate your phone"
Wait for the call to disconnect. You should get a prompt stating "Settings updated."
Double tap the Home button to bring up the recently used apps list at the bottom.  Locate the Phone, Message, and Contacts apps, swiping if necessary, and press and hold until they jiggle then press the red minus sign to stop them.
    Wait a 3-5 minutes.
Open the Contacts App to see if they're fixed.

  • How can I change key contacts for Siri?

Somehow Siri thinks two duplicate contacts are my sister.  I want to remove one of the contacts, so only the correct contact appears when I tell Siri to "Call my sister."  How do I change the key contacts?

    Hello, Ken.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If the contact is a duplicate entry I would recommend deleting one of them  Go to the contact’s card, then tap Edit. Scroll down, then tap Delete Contact.  If this is a secondary contact for your sister, you can link the contacts together via the steps below.
Unify contacts. If two entries for the same person aren’t linked automatically, you can unify them manually. Edit one of the contacts, tap Edit, then tap Link Contact and choose the other contact entry to link to.
Linked contacts aren’t merged. If you change or add information in a unified contact, the changes are copied to each source account where that information already exists.
If you link contacts with different first or last names, the names on the individual cards won’t change, but only one name appears on the unified card. To choose which name appears when you view the unified card, tap Edit, tap the linked card with the name you prefer, then tap Use This Name For Unified Card.

    Jason H.

  • How do I get siri to recognise my town?

I live in Poole, in Dorset, England. Siri reckons I'm saying 'pool' as in swimming pool!
I know siri is supposed to learn, but how do I help him along?

Well I've tried that, and I've persevered with it because I know Siri sort of learns. Siri will happily find Bournemouth, it'll happily find London, it will happily find almost every other town I have tried, bizarrely even those that I know I'm pronouncing wrong. I don't have a speech defect. My wife reckons I have a 'generosity with money' defect and a hearing defect, in fact a whole list, but she will confirm that my speech is OK, it's fine, it's in fact one of my best points, and I don't even have a strong regional accent. I am, however, British, which may confuse matters.
Siri, however, resolutely refuses to understand I'm sayin 'Poole'. Siri assumes when I say that word I'm talking about 'pool' as in 'swimming pool' or 'motor pool'. Even as I dictate, Siri can't work out I'm using the letter 'p', Siri thinks I'm using the letter 'c' so it sounds like 'cool'. There are no cinemas around here in pools. Nor restaurants in 'cool'.
I could understand this, it's a natural confusion. But Siri frequently insists on using the word 'Congo'. Now that doesn't sound anything like my home town, and I'm not really interested in restaurants and cinemas in the Congo. Generally I'm finding Siri very useful, and quite an impressive bits of technology. But I must admit I'm becoming frustrated that anything involving my own hometown is beyond him or her. My wife thinks I'm bonkers, because she sees that I'm looking for things in the Congo; this could lead other wives to believe that their husband was planning to leave them and live in the jungle.
Have I no hope of improvement? Is there no light at the end of the tunnel?
Or should I move to Africa, would that be cheaper and easier?
That last comment is based upon my hopeless quest for a resolution of my Airport Express issues, the cost of which which I have now written off as a sort of 'Apple Tax', and the grief and sorrow over my expenditure on the thing is beginning to subside.

  • How do I remove a 'wife' from Siri. I  I ask Siri to call or send a message.

How do I remove a 'wife' from iPhone. I told Siri that my partner was my wife then I married her and changed her contact details and now Siri thinks I have two wives and asks which one when I ask Siri to call or send a message.

Siri uses the relationship value from contacts to know who your wide is, so one of the contacts definitely has 'wife' marked in it, which you can easily delete in the contacts app. If it's not showing up, I'd suggest looking at where your contacts are synced to, because sometimes icloud contacts, gmail contacts or iphone contacts can be stored separetely (if you have played with the settings and chenged the default behaviour at all).

  • Yellow Screen Siri not supported. Very disappointed

yellow screen, SIRI is not supported for the Italian language, what do I do this fromiphone.
But it had to pay the same € 750
Do not be a country of series B.
I am very disappointed by your marketing policies.

I understand your frustration, we have limited Siri support here in the U.K (Siri can't search businesses etc), however we do have a supported language (which is a plus).
Try to look at the big picture, a voice activated assistant in every iPhone 4s for everybody with an iPhone 4s, in every country iPhone 4s is released around the world! This is a huge undertaking, so many different languages, different dialects, regional variations and accents to take into account.
I'm sure you can appreciate that this goal (if it is Apple's goal) will take time to achieve if it is to work effectively. There are reports here in the U.K that Siri understands English but not when it's spoken by anyone Scottish, especially Glaswegians (I'm Scottish and Siri and I are getting on fine - most of the time, but there are times Siri thinks I've said something completely different to what was actually said).
Give it time to develop, it's still very early days for Siri, but what it offers long term is huge.

  • Siri in Canada - defaults to Toronto

I'm in Vancouver, Canada and was excited to see Siri getting official support for Canada.
However, no matter what I try on both my iPad 3rd Gen and iPhone 5, Siri thinks I'm in Toronto. Asking for the weather, restaurants, etc. all come back with info for Toronto. This is happening on WiFi and LTE/3G (my carrier is Fido). Acquiring a GPS lock also makes no difference.
Strangely, all other apps find me fine and think I'm in Vancouver.
A quick Google search reveals that this seems to happen to other people as well.
Can't believe that this wasn't discovered during testing!
    Anyone got any solutions?

I have the same problem - I live in Victoria, but I only get results for Toronto.
If I ask "What will the weather be like tomorrow?" - I get Toronto weather.  If I ask instead "What will the weather be like tomorrow near me?" - I get local weather.
Same for restaurant searches.  Just ask for restaurants - I get Toronto.  If I add "near me" - I get local.
Still a bug if you ask me - I shouldn't have to add "near me" just to get local results.
