I'm in the market for a new computer, but I need it to run Premiere Pro.

So I'm a student wanting something small and portable to take to and from classes, but for my filming class, I need it to run Premiere Pro. I'm not too good with computers once it gets to system requirements for software and such, so any help would be great.

  • In the market for a new computer would love some feedback

Ok so I have a dilemma,
First problem is I can't decide between a laptop and a desktop if I went the laptop route I would go with the Asus N53qm
    Asus N53 Specs
Its got i7 720qm, some sites have it with 740qm, ddr3 memory, 425m cuda video card,
Id upgrade the ram to at least 8gb or ram maybe upgrade more down the road.... Id be editing video off esata or usb 3.0
I see the advantage of having a laptop being able to work on the road, taking it to my bed....
Id plug it into an external monitor/mouse, keyboard when at my desk.
My other option I would be a desktop
    Specs would be,
x58 motherboard, havnt decided which one yet, theres a lot that seem to all have the same features, eg. msi, asus, gigabyte.
Again ddr3 memory I notices 2000 was not much more than 1333, so yea as much ram as I want down the road....
    GTX 470
    850 watt corsair
    Intel Core i7 950
    Thermaltake A60 Case
Again most of my projects would most likely be through esata or usb 3.0 not sure which is better...
Oh and I would be editing HD Video from a flash based camcorder, Cannon HSF 10 to be specific, so its .mts avchd
Anyways, how much of a performance increase would I get from the desktop over the laptop?
I notice a lot of people overclock, is that really necessary, isnt an i7 pretty fast stock?
Thanks and please let me know your thoughts, advice changes to my specs...

Would love some feedack from the experts on this config available at Tiger direct for about $1,000
My Goal: to edit AVCHD footage using CS5....looking at the specs below specifically the processor, the video card and the RAM..what do you think?
( I  currently have CS3 on an HP Quad Core 2.4Ghz w/ 8GB RAM which is great for SD, but I realize that when upgrading to CS5 and editing my Sony HDR-500v AVCHD footage I'l need much more power)     Thanks!!

  • I am in the market for a new HP Laptop.

I am in the market for a new HP Laptop seeing as how my current one is starting to die out on me. I am looking for one that would last me at least 3 or more years like my current has and i kinda have one i like in mind at this link:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/envy-17-3-laptop-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive/9769246.p?id=1219041359741&sk...
So my my main question is going to be this: Does Best buy match prices or beat them out if i find the same model cheaper and with a mail in rebate on another retailer's website such as office depot?
I am doing price comparisons right now, because i don't know how long my current HP Pavillion Entertainment PC will hold out. I have had it for 3 years and now my on board graphics chipset or the LCD Monitor one are starting to mess up on me and i had to replace the fan and battery almost 2 or 3 months ago and now this issue is popping up. It boots up with a green screen when i turn it on at the moment, but then after it has warmed up the screen clears back up like normal. So that is why i figured that it is about time for a newer model laptop and where my researching and price comparing will come in down the line.
If you have any other laptop suggestions for me to at least look at please tell me. I want at least 750 GB or 1 TB HDD and an Intel Core i5 or I7 Processor in these suggestions too, because i do heavy duty Video Editing and Processing for my website and for Video Game Video Walkthroughs and need not only the best Processor it can handle, but for website backups and for the space doing Webcam video recordings can handle too.
Thanks for any suggestions you may have and if the current one i have linked is worth my time in saving for please be so kind as if to let me know that as well. I don't care if it has a Touch Screen or not. But any suggestion for research is always welcome.

The RAM of my HP Pavillion Dv4-2164us model is currently 4, but it is starting to boot up with a green screen when I first start it. So I am thinking about going with the J020 Envy which is a 17 Screen display or I might go for this:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/envy-touchsmart-17-3-touch-screen-laptop-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive/18203... if I go 4th gen Intel Core i7 Processor and Touch Screen
The next thing after I save up after getting whatever next Laptop I buy will be a Cooling Pad and an External HDD that I can put into one of the USB Ports or where ever you hook them up so that I can backup it up for a rainy day as they say.
The only reason why I am not opting for the becoming popular SSD is the Price tag to get the amount of space I would need is still out of my price range if I got one included. I have to be realistic and on budget as much as I don't want to be.
If I went 4th gen I5 I might get something like this:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/envy-17-3-laptop-8gb-memory-750gb-hard-drive/2354033.p?id=1219072210771&...
I would have shown a 15 screen laptop, but the CD/DVD Combo drive is not included in any of them. I would need one to back up my new laptop's OS and files the first week I use it to save from having to reformat or reinstall stuff if things even got messed up.
I have been thinking a lot about all of this not like it was a just now knowing this type of thing either. I have known for some time about that. Thanks for trying to help too.

  • In the market for a new laptop..

    Hi everyone,
i am currently in the market for a new laptop and seeking some advice.
I am debating between getting a basic rMBR 15' 2.4 GhZ 8/256 model and MBR 2.3 GhZ 4/500. The price for the basic rMBR 15' 2.4 GhZ 8/256 model is 1,867 euros with Apple's friends and family discount i am getting (stock price is 2250 euros here in Ireland). MBR 15' 2.3 GhZ 4/500 starts at 1850 euros and i am not getting friends and family discount off that (don't want to go into details). In any case this isn’t the sort of cash I have lying around.
Apple’s rMBP is a wonder of modern engineering, there is no doubt about that. What i am concerned about is all the software that has to update to add higher res images which takes time and a lot more space because they are effectively doubling the size of the image and my general browsing experience where buttons, logos and anything affected by Photoshop’s “Save for the Web” setting will look blurry or pixelated. This is certainly not the kind of experience I am looking forward to after spending 2k on a laptop.
I'm not a heavy user also I like to take my stuff around with me and I do a little Pro Tools and Logic once in a while.
    Any thoughts are appreciated.

What you were told is not correct. Apple doesn't care where your music originated and nothing will be "blocked", but you can only sync your iPhone to one device at a time.
When you first connect your iPhone to a different Mac or PC, you will see a dialog similar to the following (substitute iPhone for iPad - the result is the same):
It will do exactly what it says. If you "Erase and Sync" the iPhone will be erased first. So, make sure whatever music you have on the iPhone is stored someplace else first. Transfer that music to your new Mac's iTunes Library, and then sync your iPhone to it. You will lose nothing that way.

There are no user serviceable parts in an iPhone. Since you
made an unauthorized repair to your iPhone, you will have to
    seek assistance elsewhere.

I realise there have been a number of threads like this now that I have started looking, the problem is the back-ups i made were saved to a server network which has now also gone down, a case of dreadful luck really. Is there any other way to get the music back?

  • Please help me with choosing the Hardware for my new computer

I am creating a new editing machine that i will be using After effect, photoshop, flash, illustrator, and 3ds max. I do a lot of 3d and 2d animation, video editing and graphic design.
This is the system i am currently planing on building:
CPU: intel core i7 2600k ( I will be overclocking it to around 4.8 ghz)
    Motherboard: Asrock p67 extreme6
    Memory: G.Skill ripjaws x series 16gb ddr3 1600 cas latency 7
    Graphics Card: Gtx 570
Power Supply: Rosewill bronze series 1000w
Hard drive: 4x Corsair F120 in raid 0
    Case: Bitfenix collosus
    Cpu cooler: Noctua Nh-d14
I have a budget of $2500 for this computer. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on things i should change or would recommend a completely different build for my budget.
Also i was wondering if the gtx 570 was a stupid choice and i should get a quadro 2000 instead. I dont do any gaming.
One last thing, do 4 ssd in raid 0 help at all or should i just get 8 hard drive in raid 10, or should i spend less money on hard drives.
P.S. I know that the the i7 2600k has been recalled but i am in no hurry to build this computer. Also feel free to recommend hardware that hasn't yet been released but will probably be out in the next 8 months.
P.S.S All of the programs i listed are CS5.

Agree with all from Todd, and some things I'd consider:
Dual CPUs will pack more rendering punch, especially in your 3D work.
Even though 16GB of RAM is generous, I'd consider more.  Remember the rule:  2GB for each CPU core,  plus some more for OS and other applications.  If you're running 8 threads/cores for rendering, 24GB would be optimum.
While the hard drives will provide awesome performance in that config, it's a lot of money to spend on less than a terabyte of storage.  RAID 0 is also pretty volatile, so be sure to run a reliable and regular backup system.
For my money, I'd probably use one good-sized SSD for a system drive, then 3 or 4 conventional (or hybrid SSD) drives for media storage, with a decent RAID controller. You'll get 3 times the storage for half the price, and still have quite zippy I/O speeds.

  • Is it possible to import songs from an old apple id into the library on my new computer, but then use my own apple id from then on?

Okay so I'm about to start college and I just got my own macbook. Up until this point, I have been using my dad's apple ID for all my music and apps and stuff (on my other computers at home) but now that I got my own computer, I have my own apple ID as well, and I'd like to start using that ID from now on.
So my question is, is there a way for me to get my old music library (which was controlled by my dad's apple ID) onto my new mac, but from that point on, start using my own apple ID for purchases?
All I want from his ID is that library, because it's the music I have on my ipod and iphone. Once I have all that music on my new computer I want to be able to make purchases with my personal apple ID instead of his. Like I said, all I want is his library.
I'm not sure how to accomplish any of this... so if anyone could help me out that'd be great! I'm so confused.
Sorry if this was confusing lol I hope it makes sense

....... is there a way for me to get my old music library (which was controlled by my dad's apple ID) onto my new mac, but from that point on, start using my own apple ID for purchases?........
Yes, once the content is in iTunes on your computer, just click it to play and authorise your computer to play it by entering your Dad's ID and password.
Log into your own account and start purchasing your own content which will then be added to the existing content.

  • In the market for a new phone

A strange topic you may think however, I'm still a pretty new mac user and want to know which phone to buy that has good compatability with my shiny MBP. IE will send texts from address book because I know the posh nokia with no keyboard doesn't. So if people would reveal what mobiles they've got and how they use them with their macs I'd be super greatful.

    Hi Mcornes,
I am waiting for Sony Ericsson to release the K610i. I prefer Sony Ericsson phones because they are usually well integrated with iSync, with all the features available.
    http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=gb&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pp1loader&php=php110389&zone=pp&lm=pp1&pid=10389
Now I am using an old T610, but still syncs wonderfully with my Mac.
I can't wait for the new model K610i!

  • I am in the market for a new desktop.

Sorry if this is convoluted.  I am currently doing my research on a new comp. and I am unfortunately over all over the map.  I have and love my 160gb ipod and my wife feels the same about her ipad.  What we dont share affection for is our all in one Dell.  I am looking for a multifuctional piece of equipment, most likely a desktop.  I would love the mobility or the ability to at least move around my house to do my thing rather than being confined to my home office, but this isnt a deal breaker either so I am for the most staying away from MBP unless someone points out some good sell points.  I am focusing on a desktop that can handle basic to intermediate home office usage as I occassionally do some work from home (Project Management Consultant).  I game some, mostly just World of Warcraft and perhaps some Sims or Sim City type stuff.  No first person shooters or anything extensive.  I also have a massive music collection which is why I am favoring going all out apple base to keep things smooth between the platforms.  The idea of having the ability to do some video editing is also intriguing for work purposes as well.  Also of course the basic usage for internet browsing.  I am hesitant to going the gaming desktop route because I dont feel i play enough of the high end games to justify going that route, but I do play WoW approx 10-20 hours a week give or take.  Can a iMac handle what I am looking for or should I look elsewhere.  The apple quality isnt an issue with me, I just need to know if this platform is right for what I need.  I appreciate anyhelp.  Also, I am approx 2 hours or so a away from the nearest apple store so talking to them isnt a possibility.
    Thanks,
    Shawn

If considering an iMac, if your gaming activity is this many hours, I would look at the 27 inch screen model.
Many people have complained about the iMac's stock 512 MB graphics card not being fast enough for WoW.
So, you may have to opt to purchase some custom options such as the 1 or 2 GB VRAM video card.
The stock RAM will not be enough for gaming, also.
Instaed of buying the extra RAM from Apple, you can buy RAM cheaper from third party suppliers.
Plan on installing, at least 12 GBs of RAM and consider installing 16 GBs of RAM.
New iMacs can take up to 32 GBs of RAM. You can install more, at your discretion, at a later date if you feel you need it.
But for gaming with WoW, 12-16 GBs should be enough.

  • In the market for a new iMac - -What should i get???

Im planning on getting one of the new iMacs, yet I am very on the fence about which one I should get- the 20 inch or the 17 inch.
Which will have the better graphics, and by how much?
How much faster will the 20 inch be? (Both would be with 1gb of ram)
Does the 20 inch look bulky and clunky compared to the 17?
    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

It really depends on what you like, and how much money you can shell out. I would recommend looking at and using them in person at a local apple store if at all possible. I doubt the speed difference is noticable. Also, if you are using a monitor larger than 17 inches now, you might be disapointed with a 17 inch. It seems to be a much harder adjustment going from a big screen to smaller screen than small to big. I went with the 20 inch because right now I use a 19, and whenever I have to use anything smaller it drives me insane and i feel like I have no work space. Most people are perfectly happy with a 17 inch if they don't care about screen realestate or are not used to working on anything larger. I'd say go with the 20 if you can afford it, but if the screen size is not an important factor, you'll probably be happy with a 17.

  • Looking for A New Computer

    Hey all,
Like the subject says, I'm in the market for a new desktop machine but after spending several days looking at various sites, I think I'm more confused than informed. So if anyone who knows a bit about computers could give me a hand, I'd really appreciate it.
    Here's what I'm looking for:
My price range is around $1000-$1500. Ideally I'd like to stick more in the lower range but I'm willing to go even higher if it's for a good machine.
I'm a digital artists so I run some decently heavy duty applications like photoshop, illustrator, poser, etc.
I do most of my work with a tablet so I need something that doesn't lag or freeze up. (This is very important.)
I tend to run a lot of programs at the same time so something with a lot of memory and a fast processor would be ideal.
I create big files so a large amount of storage space would be good as well, maybe even an extra hardrive specifically just for art files.
    An awesome video card.
I don't play games very often but something that plays games wells and handles 3D would be nice too.
No Macs please. I had to use those at school and I'm just not a fan.
A fair number of USB ports.
Something I can update would be nice. I've had the same computer for the past 6 years so I like being able to replace parts whenever the situation    calls for it.
I think those are the most important things so to recap:
    $1000-$1500 Price range
    Can handle big/multiple programs
    A lot of memory
    Fast processor
    A lot of storage space
    Good graphics card
    Plays video games decently
    No Macs
    Extra USBs
    Updatable
Sorry if that's a a lot of information, but I just wanted to make sure I gave as much as possible. If there's anything I didn't answer, please let me know. And thanks in advance, I just want to make sure that if I spend the money, it's for a worth while machine.
