I'm looking for program testers

I wrote a bundle of disk & file utilities, calculators, extensions and so on.
I'm looking for program testers.
You need to have OS 9.2.2.
You are supposed to experiment with the programs on files on a disposable volume, like a second hard disk or a temporary Disk Copy image with disposable copies of your files.
Then you can report your comments on the forum: http://cliffsproject.tk/
The forum can be viewed with iCab 3.0.5 and Netscape 7.02.
You find a preview of several of the programs on the forum.
Download link for test version 1.0d1: http://www.sendspace.com/file/g0nqo3
Scroll to the bottom to the big orange button under "Download Link: cliffsproject.gz".
This test will work 1 month.
The code is hundreds of thousands of lines and I'm changing this every day, even with search and replace.
There could be a severe error.
That's why I'm looking for testers.

I didn't experience serious problems.
OK, if you are so confident it would work, why not release a several clones of your Mac to several users to have a totally controlled environment for people to test your software under. Then people can at their leisure try to see if adding any of their commonly used programs to see if they affect What you are about to use.
If you distribute it under an uncontrolled environment, you can never know what actually is going wrong.
I think that just reading the code is the best way to find errors, but it's very long.
Furthermore, it is highly unlikely than more than 1/100th of 1% of the people on this board are programmers. Of those maybe 1/100th of 1% are still running Mac OS 9.
The Classic forum has all but gone dead:
http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=726
And more people out there are capable of running Classic than even booting into 9.
You'd have better luck trying to start a usergroup of people who use 9 by looking at http://www.apple.com/usergroups/ for people interested.
This being a user to user forum of people who are troubleshooting their own problems is not the best of places to find beta testers. People barely have time to troubleshoot their own problems with one program, let alone 130.
I hate to play the devil's advocate here, since I normally am optimistic, but I don't think you are going to get a significant number of testers here with your approach.

i have acquired windows office 2011 for my macbook but unable to open it. There are currently 3 files in the folder, 1 of which seems to be the actual program which is a hfs file. iv tried looking for programs to help me open it but failed.
when double clicking on the image it says unable to open and gives me the option to search the app store.
any help would be much appreciated
    Adam

Well, first, just make sure it's the Mac version and not the Windows version (which indeed would not run on your Mac). You say "Windows Office" which is why I mention it. I think you probably just mean "Microsoft Office" though.
Next, is this on a disk (DVD), or did you purchase and download it from the Microsoft site?

  • Looking for beta testers...

I'm looking for some players to test a 2-player strategy game. The gameplay is similar to chess, except that you construct an army from a selection of units with a variety of stats and abilities.
The game requires at least 2 players to be online to play. To assist in finding opponents, I'm scheduling official play times, but feel free to play at any time.
    The web address is www.catluck.com/leopold
The official play times (PST) are
    10-11am, 2-3pm, 7-8pm, 10-11pm

from what i saw of your app it seems pretty good, but i took up the whole screen it didnt have its own window, have you thought of making it so it just has its own window ?? is there a one player option ?

  • Looking for program similiar to iphoto

Hello, I am one of the many people frustrated with the file organization in iphoto. i thought i could live with it, but i cannot and was wondering if anyone knew of a program similiar to iphoto that will let me org and name the folders my way and also resize images with in it (unlike iphoto, in which you need to export to resize). I looked at the iview media programs, but I don't need something for music and movies, only photos. any ideas? are there any plug-ins maybe that will let me do this? thanks!
    Karen

    Hi Karen,
Graphic Converter (which you already might have on your computer) will let you browse folders of images (your folders organized the way you put them), and do any kind of editing. You can quickly email, catalog, print, do a slideshow, edit IPTC and EXIF tags. It does much much more.

  • [looking for] programming language news site

    Hi,
Is there such a site to introduce new programming language monthly or weekly?
    Thanks, TIA(that's all)

How about people post their favorite language related news sources. For example:
    General:
    http://lambda-the-ultimate.org
    Lisp:
    Some lisp news site
    Python:
    Some python site
    etc.
I prefer to stay away from the 'planet' aggregators because there is too much irrelevant information (e.g. personal blog postings) picked up by them.

  • Looking for a program or app

just coming from windows,i dont know if you call them apps or programs? im looking for something that will keep track of customers, money they owe,and money they pay.would be nice if it worked with the calendar and phone book but not necessary.thanks

You didn't provide the actual name of the Windows program you are using so that features or prices can be compared. What do you expect to pay for a program, or do you want to use an online system that has monthly fees?
I don't know of any inexpensive programs for the Mac that are specifically set up for Farriers, but there are many database type programs that might be adapted to your needs. GrandTotal, $79 - offers pretty good integration with the Mac Address Book and Calendar (especially if you get it bundled with their TimeLog program for an extra $10) and it also has an iPhone-iPad program that can read open and due invoices you've created with their program.
You could also take a look at Bento, $49 - from FileMaker, which also has a program for iPhone-iPad. They offer some invoice templates that you can download and modify.
Both of these companies offer free trials.
I haven't used either of these products, but I am looking for something with better integration with my iDevices. The Quickbooks Connect program for iPad only works with the Windows version of Quickbooks Pro 2011 and requires a monthly subscription. Windows users are still complaining about it's lack of features so I'll probably pass.
One of my clients has offered to buy my Quickbooks for Mac, and I might take him up on it if the GrandTotal program works out for me. The program is great, but not very nimble on-the-road.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem with my program looking for the settings file in the wrong folder

I have been writing a simple FTP file uploader, what I want to do is be able to select the files I want to upload in windows explorer and then right click and click the menu item and it launches the program and passes the files paths that I have selected to it.
So I use this in the windows registry "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\java.exe -jar D:\BenFTP\BenFTP.jar %1"
It launches fine and has no problem finding the files I want to upload. The problem is that it tries to look for the settings file in the same folder that the file I am try to upload is in. Which it's not suppose to do since the settings file is in the same folder that the .jar is in.
Edited by: ColNewman on Feb 5, 2008 6:55 PM

So, you're looking for your settings file in your current working directory. There's no way to set the CWD in your registry entry (is there?) so that isn't a practical thing to do. Presumably you're using a File object or a FileReader or something? Can't do that.
One alternative is to look for the settings file in the classpath. You can get a URL to a file in the classpath like this:URL settings = this.getClass().getResource("/settings.xml");Or you can get an InputStream to read the file by using the getResourceAsStream method. You would have to make sure that your executable jar file contained a Class-Path entry that specified the right directory, because the directory the jar is contained in isn't automatically in an executable jar's classpath.
Another alternative is to ask the user where the settings file is supposed to be, and put an entry in the Preferences (java.util.prefs) to remember that location.

  • Looking for a for an all-in-one printer that is compatible with greeting card programs...

looking for a for an all-in-one printer that is compatible with greeting card programs...my original one was an HP PSC  1510...replaced it with a Deskjet 1050 & it does not work...any suggestions?

I bought an epson xp650 a couple of months ago and cannot fault it. It does everything I require and it is the wifi model so I can print directly from my ipad/iphone. Not sure if you are asking about the colour of the unit or just to be able to print black and white, Obviously all printers will print black and white but just to give you a little more info the printer I bought is the white version and it looks really nice sat next to my imac 27''
    Hope this helps.

  • New to Mac and I am looking for a good app to process labels for envelopes. Used to use the Printmaster program on the PC side.  Wondering if "Pages" Iis the correct program to buy of is there another option. Thank you.

New to Mac and used to use a program called print master for making all kinds of labels etc. I am looking for a good app to do the same.  I was wondering if the Pages app was the right choice to do the labels etc.  I understand that pages I'd a word processing app but I was unable to tell if it could do what I was looking for. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

The Contacts application will print envelopes and is already on your iMac. See this Apple article for information on how to do it.
    Best of luck.

  • Looking for a certain application/program

I am most definitly in the wrong forum, but the people who use this forum are probably the most knowlidgable about the application i am looking for.
I have a wacom tablet, and am getting very good at drawings and animation. I was wondering if anyone knew of a program where i can draw on my tablet , and it would record it like a film, so that i could import it in fcp. If anyone knows of this program, a similar program, or a program that includes this feture i would be very interested in knowing what it is?
    Ethan

Another route would be to do it in After Effects.
You wouldn't draw, like what you're describing, but you can create paths that would stroke themselves on. i.e. you'd draw it before hand with the pen tool in After Effects or Illustrator, then stroke your paths, and key frame the end-point to make it look like it 'draws' on.
It's a bit trickier, but then you can make sure there are no mistakes, make is scalable (vector-based), and very smooth.
    Just so you have options.

  • I have a client who was working with Now to Date, which is now obsolete.  She is looking for a mac calendar program that is as close to Now to Date as possible.  She has installed Outlook 2012 but finds that is takes too much time to enter data.  Help?

I have a client who has been using Now to Date on her Mac.  That program is now obscure and she is looking for software that is extremely similar.  She has tried Outlook for Mac and it is too labor-intensive for her.  She wants a professional look, and something that is not linked to e-mail as she works with a lot of proprietary information.  Help?

I could not identify that app in macupdate.com. If a Calendar program, what about iCal? did she try it and disliked? If you go to macupdate.com, and type ‘calendar’ in seach filed, you will be given a lot of apps, you or she should test what it most appropriate for your/her needs.

  • Looking for a labview virtual instrument program we can modify

Hi, I’m looking for a canned labview virtual instrument program we can modify for the OMB DAQ 55 from Omega to measure three temps and control three DO.  I have the driver at:ftp://ftp.omega.com/public/DASGroup/products/OMB-DAQ5455&56/ The driver is labviewpdaq5xsetup.exe. I have the OMB DAQ 55 from http://www.omega.com/pptst/OMB-Daq55.html  with a USB interface. I am trying to set it up to control a 24V electric valve. I’d like it to measure temperatures (5 separate temps), allow a set point to be programmed for three of them and turn on and off a DO based on the temperature. PID is not required yet. Maybe in the future… We have labview 7.1 and 8.0 but my colleague prefers 7.1  Do you have an labview VI programs that you can share that will do this with the DAQ 55? If you have something that will be close, we can modify it. But starting from scratch will likely mean we can not get this done in time for a project test. Simple set point and control is all I’m looking for… I’m new (my colleague knows it better than me, but has less time) to labview and do not have the resources to learn it from scratch to figure this out. Is there something you have I could modify? Can you help. Or are there canned programs you have that will do this? Labview is the preferred language. Thanks. Attached is what Omega shared with us, it might help…it’s a screen capture from a similar program, but far from the mark.

    Hi vestel,
These discussion forums are more geared for questions - not necessarily having everyone else code for you.
You have a few options if you want code.
    1) Look at the shipping examples that come with LabVIEW.  This will give you a starting point from which to ask questions.
    2) Look at the Instrument Driver Network that exits on National Instrument's Web site.  Here are all the Omega instrument drivers listed.
    3) Look at the list of Alliance members who you can pay to develop your code for you.  Look here.
    I hope this helps,
