  • Looking for test demo of new 21/27 iMac in-house in Carmel, IN

    Hi all.
I am looking for someone that might be willing to let my parents see and use their 21"/27" iMac at there house for a little while. They absolutely DETEST the new glossy screens, at least how they look when they are the store. But their house isn't a white box with dozen of light sources producing massive amounts of glare. So short of buying one and returning it, and all the hassle thereof, I thought there might be a kind soul out their willing to help.
They desperately need a new computer (iMac G5 with possibily failing drive), and an iMac would be a perfect choice if it wasn't for the glossy screen. If they can't live with that, then it'll have to be a Mini + third-party monitor.
They live in Carmel, IN. Please email me back if your willing so we could arrange a meet.
    -doug

I see what you're saying. You want the computer at your house to see how it works in the environment. That's a pretty tall order. But you might do as Dave suggests and go to Keystone At The Crossing and talk with the people there. They may be able to hook you up with a loaner or something.
My iMac sits facing west and there's window that's approx. 6'x12' behind me and 99% (okay I made that percentage up) I don't see any glare whatsoever. 100% it's not a bother (that one I didn't make up). I would assume as you did that the Apple Store is about as bad as it could get for a glossy screen. Bright, lots of white.

  • Looking for a beta tester

I'm putting the final touches on my next app. I'd love to get another set of eyes to help me go over the app. So I'm looking for a volunteer to help me test the heck out of my app.
In return I will offer my time to help either the same person with their app (testing, not writing) or the app of someone else. Kind of a Pay-It-Forward idea.
So if you are seriously interested and have the time this week or next to help me out please contact me at:
rmaddy followed by the circled A then G mail company suffix.
Ideally the willing person will look for bugs as well as offer suggestions on usability, and the like.
And I'm looking for an person who does not develop iPhone apps professionally, but on their own time. No NDA required but I'd like to keep the app details between me and the other person until it's released.
    Thanks.

  • Looking for automated way to test print PnP printer after install then delete

At times we test 20 to 30 printers in a day. I am looking for automated ways to increase the efficiency of this. I would like to simply have the printer install using PnP print a test page then delete itself after the test page or on removal. Are there any settings that can be changed on the computer to change the PnP process to make this possible. I am currently trying to learn and understand the Plug and play process so that I may find out how to get started. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Chris
I spent all day Googling and doing side by side comparisons of my old and new systems.
My display is a Dell U2410. It has several presets, including sRGB and Adobe RGB. I've been using sRGB.
On my OLD system, (Win XP, PsCS2, DwCS4) there seems to be no distinction between color managed and non color managed apps, even on this wide gamut display. I could capture (digital camera) in Adobe RGB, open and edit in PsCS2, save as .psd, convert to CMYK for print, or convert to sRGB for SFW. All images looked identical and they printed and displayed perfectly. I thought this was normal, and seemed logical. This also seems to be the source of my incorrect assumptions. I was trying to get my new machine to behave like my old one.
So I get this new machine (Windows 7, PsCS5, DwCS5) and now (still in sRGB display mode) all color managed apps appear de-saturated. Non color managed apps are OK. If I switch the display to Adobe RGB, color managed apps are OK, but non color managed apps are way too saturated. From my investigation, I believe this is normal behavior on a wide gamut display. I've tried changing the Control Panel > Display > Screen Resolution > Advanced settings > Color Management options, but to no avail. Either I'm missing something, or Windows 7 is doing color management differently.
It seems my only option now is to use Adobe RGB display setting for Ps, etc. and switch to sRGB for Dw and non color managed apps. Or, have 2 separate files for print and web. I've Googled 'til my eyes are numb and still not sure I'm getting this. Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.
Finally, I don't see an edit function here, so I can't remove my previous incorrect reply. Moderator, please feel free to do so.
    Thanks

  • Looking for someone on x86_64 to test a snippet of C#

I'm having trouble getting a piece of C# code to work. It's 100% correct and was found working by two users running x86, however on my x86_64 it doesn't.
It should display an icon in the notification area ('system tray'). For me it won't show the icon in gnome, but neither in openbox + trayer. The other two x86(!) users tested in on Gnome as well, and did get the icon to show up.
I'm looking for someone else on x86_64 to test this code, to eliminate (or confirm) that it's a very obscure x86_64 bug. Make sure you're fully synched up - that is Mono 1.9.1, with (preferably) Gnome 2.22.3 (but if it won't work on KDE/Xfce/anything else that pretty much identifies the problem as well).
You can find the 20-line snippet at http://pastebin.com/m4ebdcba6 (save as Test.cs)
Compiling is easy, `mcs -r:System.Drawing,System.Windows.Forms Test.cs` should do the trick, followed by `mono Test.exe`. You will get a messagebox, and at that time it *should* display the icon.
    Thanks.

I have Arch64 on Intel Core2Duo, with [testing] repository enabled.
I use KDE 3.5.9. I could try it with KDE 4-svn later as well
    Mono version: extra/mono-1.9.1-1
I tried that file and when I disable autohiding of my panel, it works correctly:
    http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/5647/screen1lf1.png
If I hide the panel manually (by using the hide button on the right), and I show it again, the icon disappears, but the space is still occupied:
    http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/473/screen3on2.png
When I have auto-hiding disabled, it appears fine (just like in the first picture), but when the panel hides and appears again I get black rectangle:
    http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/3091/screen2ye7.png
The first time I tried it, the rectangle was white instead

  • Config "look-alike" desktop for testing purposes... small problem...

my experiment requires me to make AWN resemble the Win7 menu bar.  My problem is that I can't seem to find the right clock/calendar applet (or configuration of such) to sincerely mimic the one from Win7... could someone shed some light on how I can pull this off? I've seen screenshots all over the net, but can't seem to make this happen for my system.  I am already prepared for the flack I'll get for trying to mimic Win7... but like I said, this is an experiment.  Thanks in advance for any and all help!

ok, dockxbar seems to have given me most of what I was looking for as far as the menu bar at the base of the screen is concerned... now, if I could only get the sidebar on the right of the screen, that would be PERFECT!
found a nice icon set in AUR that gave me just about all the icons I'd ever want for a windows look...  After I finish this test, I will see about getting a near-perfect mimic of OSX Snow Leopard in the not too distant future.

  • Electrical Engineer with automated test experience looking for job in San Antonio Area

I am an Electrical Engineer with 33 years of experience. Much of my experience involves computer programming with an emphasis on electrical systems, either controlling equipment or automated testing. I have experience in numerous languages, most recently LabView, LabWindows/CVI, and TestStand, but also including 'C', Visual Basic, FORTRAN, and Z80 assembler. I have most recently worked in the MS Windows environment, but I have worked in the UNIX environment as well.
In addition to programming I have done some hardware design and equipment specification. I have done drafting of schematics in Visio, but I also have some experience with AutoCAD. I have written user's manuals and done hardware/software integration. I feel I have a broad range of experience in many areas of engineering and programming. I also feel that my engineering background helps be to understand the needs of the customer and thus be better able to translate those needs into the control or test program they need.
I currently live in San Antonio, Texas and am looking for a job in this area. A job on the south side of Austin might be considered if I could tele-commute or work in my home with occasional trips, eg. weekly, to Austin.

I would like to speak to you about your current work situation and the type of position you may be seeking. Currently, I am looking to hire experienced LabView programmers/Project engineers for a long-term opportunity. The following is a brief job description:
    LabView Programmer/Project Engineer

The company follows the industry with LabVIEW coding techniques. Using standards as old as VXI Plug-n-Play and as new as the parallel loop Event Structure / QueuedState Machine. This code is used as the centerpiece for Test & Measurement systems that span most industries including military/aerospace, biomedical, semiconductor, automotive and telecom.
Candidate will handle LabView integration projects from beginning to end. Will work closely with customers to understand requirements, participate in bid process, manage timelines on projects, perform LabView programming, and handle customer questions and concerns. The position requires 60% programming, 20% hardware design and test, 20% customer interface and project management. Prefer candidates with 7 to 10 years of LabView programming experience.
Ability to get a DoD security clearance required.

  • Looking for Printer Test program

I'm trying to find an ABAP program that will let me test out whether we have printers defined in SAP correctly.  Ideally the functionality I'm looking for would be an ABAP program that when run would display a list of all the printers defined in SPAD and then allow me to select one or more of them, and then print a page to each of the selected printers that would show stuff like: the name of the printer, the description, the type, etc, as well as instructions to mail or fax the output back to a contact.  The contact info could be hard-coded, or it could be defaulted with override capabilities.
I had a program similar to this at another client, but it didn't do exactly what I wanted, but it sure came in handy testing out printers as you added them during a GoLive or office move.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Looking for disk I/O test for ASM?

We are running oracle 10.2.0.3 on RHEL4 itanium 64 bit and we are using ASM for out database storage. IN our production environemnt the disk subsystem is an EMC clarion array but in our test environment our disk subsystem is an HP MSA storage.
I am looking for a good way to test the disk I/O throughput between the 2 storage arrays when the disks are configured as oracle ASM disks?
Can ayone make any suggestions on this testing.
    Thx.

Perhaps not understanding your question, but we run 10g2 on Linux RHEL with ASM on SAN and use iostat to monitor IO performance.
We implement multipathing and so run /sbin/multipath -l to discover the names of the devices and then run iostat like so:
    iostat -x dm-0 dm-1 15
which will print stats every 15 seconds for the 2 named devices dm-0 and dm-1

p.lagatta wrote:Jon, Thanks for the reply.  The Siderwinder Firewalls associate a Multicast MAC address with the vIP.  That's the reason for the static ARP entry in each router.  Since our Layer II switches located between the firewalls and routers do not register the MAC with a specific port, both firewalls receive the traffic.  Once the traffic reaches the firewalls, they pass information across a heartbeat interface and the selection process is based on odd / even ports.  Receive traffic is already working in this configuration.  Both our external routers are peered with two EBGP routers located in the same AS.  The GLBP implementation will allow us to load balance the traffic each firewall is sending to the GW address.
    Perhaps i'm misunderstaning.
If there is one mac-address then GLBP will assign that mac-address to one of the routers and it will keep that router for forwarding the traffic with the same mac-address. So the traffic will always be forwarded by the same router. GLBP works by assigning different source mac-addresses to different routers within the same group but it sounds like the source mac-address is always the same from the firewalls.
