i have been using the Ical for a while and lost entries of dates and bookings have tried to do a restore and nothing happens. what can i do to retrieve this information. I have done a restore from time machine and it appears in Ical and then completely disapears.

Auto brightness setting uses a sensor near the 'top' in portrait (tall) mode.
In landscape (wide) mode, the sensor could be 'seeing' your hand, or light colored wall, clothing, ceiling, and the like, and automatically adjusting the brightness level.
Or perhaps you are covering the brightness sensor with your hand when you rotate the iPad?
In Settings, you can turn off the Auto brightness setting and set the brightness manually.

Imported event in a calendar disapear after a few syncs.

I am having this weir problem of loosing imported events after syncing a few times over .mac.
I have imported Entourage events in my main calendar and all the data are merged correctly in Ical. When I sync to .mac (complete reset of data to .mac) and I sync to another mac at home and all my data are syncing correcly. I also sync my data on my Palm T3 through Myssing Sync for Mac and all the data are correctly transferred. The problem comes after a few days when I want to sync again, and all of a sudden, all the data previously imported from entourage disappear.
Is there a trace or a preference out there that I need to trash for ICal to keep the merge data. In order to work around this bug, I have been doing back-ups often and restored from this back-up, but this is a cumbersome fix and anyway, after a few days, I still lose the original data imported entourage data...

Do you have an iCloud or Gmail calendar showing as an option in Calendar?
Check there, as well as in your Settings > Calendar and email.
Enable iCloud or Gmail calendar, and then you will have the option to invite when the calendar event uses one of those.

In ical I just added new calendars to a pre-existing calendar group, I can make events with these calendars, but not reminders, any suggestions?

Hi,
Lion has changed the way reminders (todos as was) work. They now seem to need to be in a seperate calendar.
In iCal open the File menu and select New Reminder List... and select where to put it.

Tap on the event to open the event. Click the 'Edit' button in the event bubble, then press the 'Delete Event' button at the bottom of the Edit pop-up. It's a little different for events that come through Microsoft Exchange, you tap the event to bring up bubble and click the 'Details' button, and then press 'Decline' to remove the event.

Is there a way to flag events on the Calendar differently? I want to put bills in my Calendar on the days they are usually due (repeating monthly). I want to flag them somehow when they have been paid.

I tried to put them in using the "Home calendar" blue, and them change them to purple (Work Calendar) after I had paid them. The problem is that once I changed a bill from blue to purple it changed all upcoming bills for future months to purple also.

You might want to try Reminders.
Creat a Bill Pay list, add all your bills set a reminder to repeat every month and when you pay one just check them off as complete

As Apple has yet to upgrade iCalendar so I can check off my events as I complete them (no, I do not want to use a task list/reminder list), I want to be able to move my events to my "completed" events calendar as I complete them. The issue is that most of my events are repeating events, and it changes the entire series. How do I change only the event I clicked on using my iPhone?

If you change anything in a repeating calendar entry it will give you the option of disconnecting it from the series. So may any random change, choose to not change the series.

First, uninstall "SuperTV" (whatever that is) according to the developer's instructions. It isn't working and it's filling the log with noise.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.

To share an entire calendar via mac and icloud you will either need a iCal server or to login with your icloud account with the computer you want the calendar on. I find the easiest way to share calendars is to sync your calendar with Google Calendar. Login to Google Calendar, under the "My Calendars" Tab on the left side, find the calendar you would like to share. Hover over it with the mouse and an upside down triangle will appear a little to the right of the calendar name. Click on the triangle and click share this calendar.

I can't add a new event to my calendar on iPhone. The plus sign is greyed out and even when I try it with Siri it says "Sorry. I can't do that right now". I did my due diligence and searched all over the forums and internet and I can't fix this. There was a listing in a forum where a lady had this same symptom but it looks like toggling iCloud worked for her. Not for me. I went into Settings>iCloud and turned off Calendar and then turned it back on. Still nothing. I even went to iCloud Backup and turned it on then back off and still nothing. See if you can go to your Calendars App and select a previous event to see what Calendar the event was added to (iCloud or Yahoo). After that is determined you can go to www.iCloud.com or calendar.yahoo.com and add the event there to see if it will populate on your device. Another troubleshooting step is deleting the iCloud account from your device and also deleting the Yahoo account. Then check to see if you can add an event without it syncing to a email. If you can then it may have just been a bug and you can add both accounts back and try adding the event again. I would also recommend only using one service to sync your Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, etc. Such as either iCloud only or Yahoo only, as using multiple accounts means your data is spread around and can be hard to isolate when something goes wrong.

Um, color tagging events has always been a feature of iCal. Go into iCal. In the upper left-hand corner it says "Calendars." Go under "File" and create a new Calendar--iCal will give it a color, but you can change that. I don't enter it , it gets it from my card and i have written 2 there and its allowing me to choose between those two.

Suddenly, events entered in Calendar on iPhone are not showing up in iCal or iCloud

Until late November, i had an iPhone 4s with iOS 5.   Then i got an iPhone 6 with iOS 8. As previously, when i would enter an event in the Calendar, that data would also show up in my iCal calendar and on my iCloud calendar, until the last couple of days. Now, new entries are not showing up on iCal or iCloud. I encountered the problem that my iPhone, 64G, is being backed up to the iCloud and after two backups, taking up 2.4G each, my 5G of iCloud storage was used up. I speculated that this was why my phone data stopped syncing to the other calendars on the computer and cloud, though i did not know for sure. I deleted one of the two back ups and am about to delete the other one. I have never had this problem of running out of iCloud storage on my other phone. According to Settings>iCloud>Storage, i had 89MB. But since i have deleted one of the 2.4G backups (which was "incomplete") my new entries are still not showing up in iCal and on the iCloud.
Is there a way to get this feature to work again?
Are there things i can check or uncheck in settings or in Calendar or ??   that will get this to work well as it did in iOS 5?

ckuan - thank you for replying. i am really desperate for help. I have wasted so much time on this. I was on hold with Apple support for a long time and then had a call with a rep that lasted over an hour but he didn't know anything about issues of these kinds. i was put on hold a lot while he consulted. He did agree that the data wasn't syncing from iPhone to iCloud and iCal because the iCloud storage was used up by the iPhone back ups. So he advised deleting one of them. I now have 2.4G of storage on iCloud. Am i wrong to think that should be enough?   I still ave the original complete back up (2.4g) undeleted, in case there some reason that i need it. i don't like deleting things i don't have a good understanding of.
Following your instructions, i went to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars. I then scrolled down to Calendars and at the bottom, i see where it says Default Calendar. This raised new questions for me which i will ask you/others now:
On the Default Calendar page, there is a heading that says iCloud and there is a second heading that says my gmail email address, [email protected]. Under the iCloud heading, there is a list of 8 "calendars," called Work, Family, Pets, Home, etc. Under the gmail address heading, there is only one option listed, which is my gmail username. When i went to the Default Calendar option, as i think you suggested if i understood you right, i found that the Calendar with the checkmark next to it was the gmail user name, under the gmail address heading. Presumably, this is the same setting i had on my 4s with iOS 5.
I wanted to follow your instruction to change this to iCloud as Default Calendar. but the only option i have is to choose only one of those 8 "calendars," either Work, or Pets, or Home, etc. Does this make sense?   The only reason i know for having these many different calendars was to give different colors to the different event categories. I didn't really want them to be separate calendars. i just wanted to use the color coding for type of event in my overall calendar.
I don't know why this is suddenly so complicated and confusing, after working fine for the first two or three weeks i've had the new iPhone. Suddenly, when i enter events in Calendar, it's not reaching the cloud. If this is because my gmail and/or google user name was checked as the default calendar, that was not a setting i would've recently changed. I never would have set my iPhone to only use one of the iCloud sub-calendars at my default calendars.

Just to be clear, there is no way to check iCloud on the Default Calendar page. i have tried checking it, but it's just a somewhat grayed out heading and doesn't respond to attempts to check it, it's not offered as a Calendar option. Only the various sub-calendars are offered a default calendar options, under the grayed out iCloud heading. So, i selected Home, for no particular reason. i have lots of entries under different categories.
Here is the result:   still no new entries showed up in iCloud or iCal. In January, a couple of days ago, i entered three dental appointments, for which i have always used Health as what i thought was a category (not a separate "calendar"). The color of Health events is green. The color of Home events is Blue. After changing the Default Calendar from gmail email address>user name to iCloud>Home (blue), the dental appointment in January did not show up. But when i went into the first dental appointment event>edit and changed the "calendar" to Home, it then showed up on the calendar. The other two dental appointments which were still Health did not show up.
Then, i changed the first dental appointment that is showing up in January back to Health (green). It still shows up, now, colored green, even though Home/blue is now my default calendar. But the two other dental appointments are not showing up.
Does this mean if want to use my Calendar and have the data backed up in iCloud and iCal, from now on, i need to use only one sub calendar and give up using the different color codes because iOS 8 is forcing me to choose only one sub calendar to be my whole calendar, and the only way to use different colors for different categories of events would be to first enter it as the default sub calendar (such as dental appointment>Home), and then go back and edit it into the correct sub calendar (such as changing it to the correct category, Health) to show the correct one instead of the "default" one?
Why was this made so much more difficult and complicated than it used to be? It was working normally up until a couple of days ago.
What i need, if possible, is info on what setting i can use to go back to using my gmail address user name as my default calendar, so that it can just work properly as it did before. It seems ridiculous that i am forced by iCloud to use a sub category as my default calendar and everything that isn't entered as that subcategory will not be processed in iCloud. Why does iCloud provide these sub calendar category options at all, if it's going to force people to only be able to use one of them?
What am i missing here?

How to delete multiple Done events in a Calendar.

I've downloaded a fixtures calendar for a football season. (It's not a subscription, it's a calendar file). i've set preferences to delete events 1 day after they finish but old entries are still showing - as far back as 6 months. Is there a way to do a smart search or master delete that can delete all 'Done' events in a calendar? There are too many to keep selecting and deleting individually.

As Nanda said, just go to tcode SE03..Click Unlock Objects (Expert Tool)..Paste your TR number (one at a time) then click Unlock..
Go back to SE10 and delete your TR numbers..
