I'm losing LIghtroom processing changes when opening photo in Photoshop.  Why?

I have been using Lightroom only for a couple of weeks.  For several years I used Bridge and Camera Raw for RAW file processing.  After noticing that every .DNG file I process in LIghtroom 5.4 and subsequently open in Photoshop-CS4 loses the Lightroom processing in Photoshop, I conducted the following experiment:
A  .dng file that had not previously been in LR catalog was placed in folder as Original  DNG.dng.
File was copied and named Lightroom Processed.dng
Both files were imported into LR
The Lightroom Processed.dng file was loaded into Develop module and Exposure set to +5.00.  (Note that original is underexposed by about 1 stop and at +5 the photo is almost completely washed out.)
Lightroom Processed.dng was opened in Photoshop-CS4. (There was no prompt for "Edit a copy with  Lightroom adjustments".  I'm assuming it was because it was a .dng file.)  The original underexposed version was displayed is PS.  When Ctrl-S was used to save the file, a file entitled Lightroom Processed-Edit.tif was automatically saved in the same folder and imported into LR.
I copied the Develop Settings from Lightroom Processed.dng to LIghtroom Processed-Edit.tif and the numeric exposure setting was displayed as +5.00 BUT there are slight differences in appearance and in the histogram for the .dng and .tif versions.  The .tif version is very slightly darker than the .dng version.
I opened LIghtroom Processed-Edit.tif in PS.  This time I was prompted to "Edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments" along with the other two options for opening a copy without adjustments or opening original. I selected "Edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments".
I can't believe that one cannot process a raw file in Lightroom and then open it in Photoshop without having the processing one does in Lightroom carry over into Photoshop.  I've never had this problem using Bridge and Camera Raw.  What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance to all who can help with this problem.

@willard, moving from a Photoshop Bridge-ACR workflow to an Lightroom workflow there are a couple important differences to be aware off.
a. ACR/Bridge uses .xmp sidecars to read and write changes to raw files(in the case of DNG files the .xmp data is stored within the file header). ACR/ Bridge cannot read the data stored in the Lightroom Catalog. The info is in the file.
b. Lightroom by default uses a Catalog file to read and write all that you do in Lightroom. The info is in the Catalog. There is also the option to have Lightroom also write info to a sidecar .xmp file or within the file header of DNG, TIFF or JPG files. This can also be achieved by using the CTRL/CMD-S.  This info in the .xmp or DNG files is used by ACR/Bridge.
c. In your case the xmp data written by LR 5 which uses the equivalent of ACR 8.4 will not be fully understood by PS CS4 which uses ACR 5.x.
d. So if you open a DNG file directly in PS CS4 there will not be full compatibly. (you may have requested Lightroom to write to the DNG file but PS CS4 cannot read it all)
Quote "(There was no prompt for "Edit a copy with  Lightroom adjustments".  I'm assuming it was because it was a .dng file.) "
In the Lightroom Preferences General tab> Prompts> select Reset all warning dialogs.

  • Photoshop CC freezing when opening photo(s)

When opening photos into Photoshop CC, photoshop somewhat freezes. It appears that it is trying to open the file, but nothing happens. I have tried to let it sit for about 30 minutes, to let it runs it course, with no progress. This happens when opening a single photo or opening multiple photos at a time. The only way to get out of this, is to Control, Alt, Delete. I have tried closing out of Photoshop and going back in and even rebooting the computer completely, with no luck. Each time, I get the same thing. This all seems to have started after I ran the newest update.

Have you trashed the preferences as mentioned here?

You are posting in the "icloud on my mac" forum, but your profile mentions Windows.  If using a mac, you need to have iphoto or aperture installed in order to receive new photos via photo stream.  If using windows, try posting in the iCloud on a PC forum.  You'll get better help there.

  • I had to reinstall CS4 and now have error messages when opening bridge and photoshop

The error message is "The specified module could not be found. C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS4\Client\4.0.1\Version Cue.DLL

I tried what you suggested and it did not help.  whenever I try to open either photoshop or bridge, I get a message saying that there was a problem loading scripts the last time that Bridge was open and do I want to try loading them again?  If I click yes, I get that same error message that I reported in my original question and photoshop/bridge will immediately close.  If I click no, photoshop and bridge will open but it will not let me open a raw format document.  It seems like Adobe Camera Raw is not being recognized.   One of the updates I downloaded was an update to Adobe Camera Raw so the functionality is there, it just can't be accessed.  do you think I should try to uninstall and re-install Photoshop again?

You should not see a dialog box in Lightroom when sending a raw file to Photoshop. The only time you should see a dialog with a raw file is when you don't have the same version of the Camera Raw plug-in in Photoshop to match the version of Lightroom installed.

  • Suddenly stopped getting dialog to edit with LR changes when opening in Photoshop

I have LR4 and PS CS5. Edited several photos this morning without a problem --But this evening, after editing in LR, clicked command+E to open in Photoshop- as I always do, but didn't get the dialog that gives me the option to edit with LR changes. The files are opening as raw instead of TIFF all of a sudden! I have done nothing different aside from updating the Kubota dashboard. Could that have messed things up? This is such a mystery and I have a job to finish! HELP!
I deleted the Kubota plug-in since that was the only thing I did out of the ordinary but still no luck. I am deserate to get images edited in LR transferred to PS WITH THE EDITS! Why would it work one minute and not the next???
Just tried to edit in Color Efex from Lightroom and got the dialogue. So...it's only happening with Photoshop. PLEASE help! I tried uninstalling Photoshop and reinstalling with updated Camera Raw 6.7 plugin. No luck....I need to finish a job!
    It worked fine this morning!

With ACR 6.7 installed to Photoshop CS5, even a PV2012 image coming from LR can be opened OK by Photoshop, with all adjustments correct - just the same in this respect, as when using CS6 with ACR 7.
AFAICT the difference being, ACR 6.7 is capable of making a "straight through" conversion employing the 2012 process version, but lacks any interface in which to view and adjust that.
So I suspect the issue here, is not that LR is doing anything wrong. Photoshop's settings need to allow an image that Lr is passing it, to open directly into the editor, wihtout trying to interact with that using the ACR window along the way. This  also means, you cannot properly interact with a Smart Object from inside PS, using ACR 6.7, either - when the image develop parameters involved belong to PV2012 (though you can, when these belong to an earlier PV).
IMO the solution probably lies in your PS or your ACR settings - whatever is in effect invoking ACR automatically when PS opens a TIFF. This is what you do not want to happen, for PV2012.
Prior to ACR 6.7, you would have needed to instead select the option "Render in LR" in order to see PV2012 adjustments properly. And you could still do that - leaving ACR with nothing to do, and so making its version compatibility moot - provided it stays out of the way..
Also, I believe that when instead of using the Ctrl+E or "Edit in PS" command, you make and use a named external editing preset, the interaction between LR and PS changes whereby an already-saved file is made on disk before PS sees anything. The other way, what PS opens is an as-yet-unsaved image.
[edit: one reason you are now not seeing a dialog that you did see before, is that ever since you installed ACR 6.7, Lr now realises that Ps has a 2012-compatible conversion - so you now stop getting the incompatibility warning that earlier ACR versions would have flagged up. If the dialog in question has been set to "always do this" (whatever "this" is) then you will just see LR and PS attempt to do that, without asking.
In Lr Preferences, General tab, you can "Reset all warning dialogs".]

  • When opening image in Photoshop from Lightroom "edit it," it defaults to TIF format

When I open an image in Photoshop CC by using the "edit with" command in Lightroom 5, after editing, the file will default to a TIF image rather than PSD. This ends up creating large, duplicate files (TIF and PSD) after I correct the problem.
Isn't there a way to ensure Photoshop CC defaults to a PSD regardless of where it's opened.
I do not use any editing or image-adjusting features in Lightroom. Nothing is changed in a photo until I edit in Photoshop. I open with RAW in photoshop.
I'm using Windows 8.1 with plenty of memory and disk space.
    Thanks

    Hi EJToll,
If you like to set the default file format of the file you Edit in Photoshop CC thorugh Lightroom then perform following steps.
Lanuch Lightroom and go to Edit> Preference(Windows) Lightroom>Peference(Mac)
    Click "External Editing" tab
Change the option for "File Format" to PSD as deafult format for Edit In Adobe Photoshop CC
    Click "Ok" button
    Hope this helps.

  • Type List Order Numbers (typelistordernum) change when opening a sequence file in Test Stand

Could you please shed light on the reasons a sequence file changes upon opening in the Test Stand development environment?
Comparing the file before and after, I see that the typelistordernum changed on a few custom types that we defined for the program. .
To clarify the environment, I am using two work stations running the same version of Test Stand. The workstations are kept in sync using Sugar Sync. One would expect that a file saved on one workstation could be loaded on the other work station with no change.
This also happens on files that we pull from version control (GIT). Once opened, they change, which presents a serious problem in avoiding version conflicts and keeping track of real changes.
    Test Stand Version: 4.5.1

    ATE Coder wrote:
In fact it turns out that conflict resolution is fairly hard to resolve.
For instance, changing a type (add a comment) changes its time stamp. As a result, all sequence files referring to this type are now in conflict.
On testing, Test Stand does not seem to flag these. So, they could be pushed into the repositories as is.
Opening the sequence files on another machine (after pulling to code from repositories), Test Stand detects a conflict that in fact is no conflict at all. Now all these files need to be checked in and pushed up and then pulled down.  This increases the chances of code conflicts many folds and seems to be totally superfluous.
Turning off automatic conflict resolution does not seem to resolve this issue.
It would seem that for some reason (inertia?), NI pulled into Test Stand the same tight versioning it uses in LabVIEW. While in LabVIEW, where, in fact, one is editing compiled code, thins might add some value, Test Stand sequences are actually XML file -- source code, which call for a much more relaxed code versioning or none at all as making sure the code works as part of the debugging process and cannot be handled properly by 'versioning'.
I think you might not be using automatic conflict resolution the way it is intended.
Are you using type palette files? If not, I highly recommend you do so. If you put the highest version of your types in a type palette file, use the default automatic conflict resolution settings, and distribute or deploy the type palette file to everywhere where the type is being used, you do not have to resave all of your sequence files everytime the type changes. Sequence files with older versions of the type will be automatically updated when they are loaded on machines that have the latest version in a type palette. This is what automatic conflict resolution does, it automatically/silently updates the types in the sequence files when they are loaded. No need to resave everything before hand. If you have trouble getting this working, let me know exactly what you are doing and what problems you are having and I will hopefully be able to suggest an alternative way of managing types that will not have those problems.
    Hope this helps,

  • Color calibration change when opening certain apps in OSX 10.8?

    Hey guys.
I've noticed something weird when opening certain applications in Mountain Lion. For one thing, whenever I open say Final Cut X, the entire color gamut changes on my display. It doesn't look bad or anything. It's almost like the computer is changing color calibrations... like when you used to be able to select Adobe RGB in the display preferences in OSX 10.6. Anyone know if this is an intentional thing when using pro applications? Because I also notice it when I open up iPhoto and when I start "screen recording" in Quicktime.

I recently started noticing the same issue after upgrading to Moutain Lion. The screen will change from a warm tone to a cooler bluish tone. I think it has to be a bug, as I've had the MBP for over a year running Snow Leopard and never noticed this. I hope there is a fix on the way as this is no good for editing photos and graphic work.

  • Color change when opening in Reader

Hi, I created a PDF in Photoshop. I then added an editable field in Acrobat, using the same RGBs. When I open the file in Reader, the color of the editable field does not match. Any suggestions on what I can do to resolve this?  I have the most recent version of Acrobat and Reader.
    Thanks,
    Jackie

Here is a screen shot of the reader PDF, followed by the original file in Acrobat. You can see that the entire document color changed when I opened it in Reader.
    THanks,

  • Hexidecimal color changes when opened in FWCS3

I have noticed that my logo, which is #3cd920, changes to #3bd91f when opened in FW. I first thought it might have been a problem with Illustrator, but when the file is opened in Photoshop it is #3cd920 as it should be. This is really outrageous; is there a fix? I have only noticed this recently...

First uninstall didn't work; then I deleted all color-related extensions. Now it works! The problem was with a color palette extension that overwrote an important file and interfered with FW. Never say yes to this when installing an extension.

  • "Last modified" attribute changes when opening a Excel-document

    Hi
We are running Server 2008 R2 as terminal servers and fileserver.
When opening an Excel document stored on the fileserver so changes "date modified" at the opening regardless if you save the document or not. This is a problem for users who want to keep track of when the document has been changed "for real".
Now, "last modified" changes when the document was last read instead, this confuse the users...
If we test the same procedure on our older terminal server environment, Server 2003 or on our clients (Windows 7) it works how we wanted. The "last modified" only changes when you save the document, and not when you are opening it. Office
2007 is installed on both our new terminal server environment (Server 2008 R2) and the old one (Server 2003).
Can someone explain to me why it behaves like this? And if anyone got a solution? It's only occur on Excel-documents and not the others Office documents...
    Thanks in advance

    Hi tomburken,
It seems that this is not a server issue .
This issue may due to the " automatically save " executed by some office scripts .
To get the accurate assistance please post this issue to Microsoft office forum :

  • Sudden color temperature change when opening some programs

I got this sudden color temperature change when I open Photoshop, Maya and a few other games. When I quit the programs the color goes back to normal. It first started happening once a while and I didn't really notice, but now it's become a regular thing... I think it begun after upgrading to Yosemite. It's quite uncomfortable to my eyes but it's bearable. I'm just concerned whether it's a sign for something worse. Please please help!
I took photos of before and after the color change, basically it becomes much brighter and more blueish.

Did you ever find a solution for this? It recently started for me too, and it's already getting on my nerves First I thought it was because of dynamically switching the graphics card but unfortunately it happens when I use it on an external monitor only (and thus is locked to the Radeon card)...
