I'm lost! How can I hear my music?

Over the years Logic has increased in complexity faster than I can keep up. I have music files that I've been working on but I'm not able to hear the results. Something in the Environment, or a simple computer preference setting, or God only knows what. I can't dig through all the documentation; I get totally lost. Years ago I was using an external sampler, with good results, but I've never been able to get my arms around the EXS-24 or the other soft synths built into the iMac. I think what I really need is someone to come to my site and set me up. Anyone have any ideas?

Well put.
If you exported a track as Audio & QuickTime could play it, that means that Logic can definitely access the material correctly (otherwise it wouldn't be able to generate an Audio track).
If that is the case, then your problem must be monitoring.
IOW, everything is probably working perfectly correctly, except that somehow you have turned monitoring off (& so you can't hear playback).
I suggest you check out the monitor settings to see if you haven't disabled playback monitoring…
FROM THE MANUAL:
(N.B.: there is a problem with the text in both the paper & PDF versions of the manual. I have therefore pasted the text verbatim, but it doesn't make sense. I've left it 'as is' so that you can decide for yourself what is probably meant.)
Auto Input Monitoring
Input monitoring allows you to determine what signal is heard on record-enabled
tracks. If Auto Input Monitoring is switched on, you will only hear the input signal
during the actual recording—before and afterwards, you’ll hear the previously
recorded audio on the track, while the sequencer is running. This helps you judge drop-
in and drop-out points for punch recording. If Auto Input Monitoring is switched off,
you will always hear the input signal. Auto Input Monitoring, when switched on, also
allows you to hear the input source when Logic is stopped, making it easy to set levels.
No monitoring of any kind will occur if the Audio > Audio Hardware & Drivers > Software
Monitoring (see “Logic automatically recognizes any installed Core Audio hardware, and
will use the default settings—defined in Mac OS X’s Audio MIDI Setup utility
(Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup). It can, however, be advantageous to
optimize the settings for your individual hardware setup, particularly if you use several
sound cards or a multi I/O card. This can be done in Logic’s Core Audio pane.
Input monitoring always involves a little latency. In certain configurations, you may be
best served by not using Logic’s monitoring at all, to obtain the best possible monitor
timing. Route the signal that you wish to record directly to the headphones or
monitoring amplifier. You won’t unknowingly overdrive your A/D converters, as Logic’s
input level meters will continue to work, and you’ll see a warning dialog as soon as an
overload occurs. Latency is entirely dependent on the hardware, and driver settings.
Switching Auto Input Monitoring on/off
Click-holding the Record button (Transport window) opens the Record menu, where
you can toggle Auto Input monitoring. You can also use the Toggle Auto Input
Monitoring key command, or enable it from the Audio menu.
Possible Problems with Input Monitoring
Typical problems that can arise with record-enabled tracks:
• Singers cannot hear themselves while Logic is running. All they can hear is the old
recording. Switch off Auto Input Monitoring.
• The track cannot be heard, even though Logic is not actually recording. Switch on
Auto Input Monitoring.
Depending on the situation, both options can be useful. Normally, Auto Input
Monitoring is switched on, and is only switched off in special situations.

  • Help needed foa a zen vision 30 GB( how can I hear the music in a amplifi

Hi,I would like to connect my zen to an amplifier or a music case as to hear the music in a large hall. I am wondering if there are cables available to make this connection? Thanks in advance/Fabio

If your sound system has what is called a "music port" or an auxiliary audio plug, you can get a two-end 3,5mm cable that you plug in the port and in your device's earphone jack. Then you select on your sound system auxiliary audio or music port, and press play from your device. That's how my sound system works. If you have a relati'vely new sound system, you probably have that music port. If not, check the user's manual of your sound system to see how you can play music from auxiliary sources.Your best bet would be to go to an electronic boutique and ask an expert. I went to future shop and simply asked for what sort of cable I was looking for, and the guy found it for me.Hope this helped,Good luck

  • I purchased and downloaded a full album on itunes today, when i got home i updated my phone and lost it all, how can i get this music back without paying for it again

Today while driving home from vacation i purchased and downloaded the new Nichleback CD, when i got home, i plugged my phone into my computer to update everything and it pulled up a message saying something like "this computer has recognized an iPhone that is in memory update, you will need to restore the phone" or something similar to that, it had a picture of the power cord plugging into iTunes on the screen and i couldn't get rid of it, so i had to plug it in and restore everything, when it was done i noticed that not only did i loose the new CD that i had just purchased today but i lost all of the music that i've purchased since the last update. How can i restore this music without purchasing it all again?

Media should be included with the backup of the computer that all users should be creating on a regular basis as part of basic computer/data maintenance.
In the event that you do not have a backup (stop being lazy.... keep backups of YOUR data and other important files)
If you are in the US and running iTunes 10.3 or later, it is possible to redownload music via iCloud from purchased history.
If you are not in the US or for some reason cannot run iTunes 10.3 or later, contact iTunes customer support and ask very nicely for the opportunity to redownload the content.  They are not required to provide this opportunity.
It is also possible to transfer content from an iDevice that was purchased via iTunes.  On the new computer, sign into the iTunes account, authorize the computer, connect the device then select File > Transfer Purchases.
The simplest method of all is to transfer or copy the media (and other important files) from the old computer or the backup of the old computer.  Typing "move itunes library" into the search bar here or into google will reveal step by step instructions on how to do this.

I lost my iTunes library on my pc when the hard drive crashed. None of the data on the drive was recoverable and I did not have a backup either locally or on the cloud. Much of the music is from old vinyl and podcasts which are no longer available.

I have been reluctant to install iTunes on the new hard drive out of fear that I will lose all the contents on the ipod if I try to synch to the new hard drive.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option which is revealed in the iTunes app on your iOS device by tapping the more button at the bottom of the screen.

Media and apps are not part of the backup. They need to be re-synced from your itunes library or re-downloaded from the store.

You should turn off "Auto input monitoring". I only have L8 and there you find it under Options->audio->Auto Input monitoring. Would guess that its in the same place in L9

  • Seems like the iTunes app has lost most of my music. How can I get my music back?

Seems like the iTunes app has lost most of my music. How can I get my music back?

A new version shouldn't do that but it does seem to happen on occasion to a few unlucky ones.  Restore your library from the backup you make of your computer before you install new software.  If you don't have one, this is a learning experience.
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

Hello All,My iphone lost, how can I get it back? Now the person who get my iphone has powered off iphone.I can't get call my iphone.

Probably not. If the person knew what they were doing then they probably restored the phone rendering find my phone useless. If it was sprint or verizon then have them block the phone from being activated. AT&T won't right now but they are going to start doing it soon.

I recently had to completely restore my laptop, so I lost the music on my itunes. It's still on my iphone, but how can I keep the music I already have and continue to add more music from the newly set up itunes again? Is there actually a way to do this? I can't help but wonder what the stupid icloud is for if my music is still somewhere in the 'cloud' but it's zero help for restoring music when it's lost on a computer....any help even a site that get's around apple would be great!

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Have you failed to do this?
If so, not good, you can transfer itunes purchases from the iphone to your computer.  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

Unfortunely, all movies and songs purchased in iTunes will be lost...you'll have to purchase them again! Any applications you've purchased, you can download again for free.
