I'm moving from FCE Need tutorial on import, organization footage

Hello All,
I've been using Final Cut Express for several years now and like how I can start a project and I can see icons of all the footage I import for that project.  I've looked at s lots of tutorials of this in FCPX and I'm having a hard time getting my mind around how to import and log new projects and footage.
Is there an icon way in FCPX of just starting a new project  and in a new project "window" of seeing icons of all the footage related to that project?
Any advice or a good, simple tutorial on this subject would be great.
Thanks for your help.
Mike

  • Best workflow from FCE 4.0 timeline to Blu Ray disk?

I'm almost done creating a video in FCE4.0.1 and I'm wondering what everyone's experience is in producing a quality blu Ray disk on the Mac.
I'm using an iMac I7 and FCE 4. I will be buying an external blu Ray writer (suggestions?) and I'm assuming I'll need Toast and the blu Ray plug in to create the disk.
Perhaps not. I know others have already fought this bleeding edge battle so I'm hoping I can learn from your experiences.
I'm looking to output 720P quality. So, suggestions? Ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

I have had satisfactory results burning short Blu-ray quality movies using Toast and standard DVDs. I export my work from FCE to QuickTime then import it into Toast. I select the Blu-ray video option (top left) and also select the standard DVD (bottom right). The results are quite good viewed on a HD TV using a Blu-ray disc player. It takes a long time to burn and patience is required, but I have compared the Blu-ray video to DVDs burned in the normal manner, and the results are pretty amazing. This process does not require an external Blu-ray writer, but it will only work for short videos of 20 minutes or so.

  • I moved from the UK to the US with my iMac. What do I need to buy for the UK iMac to work in the US? A power convertor? A plug convertor? or Both?

I moved from the UK to the US with my iMac. What do I need to buy for the UK iMac to work in the US? A power convertor? A plug convertor? or Both?  I had previously read that you only need a plug convertor (three prong to two prong).  But I'm terrified that my iMac will blow up if I only use a plug convertor and not some sort of voltage convertor (Transformer).

I'm not really hardware tech savy - is it easy to pop out the UK power cable and plug in the US power cable? Or do I need to get someone like an iMac support guy to do this? And because of the voltage difference, is there something built into the iMac that takes care of the voltage difference for me?  Thanks!!

  • I am moving from Southern California to Maui, Hawaii and I need to figure out the best way to get my 24 inch iMac across the ocean. Does anyone know the best way to do this?

I am moving from Southern California to Maui, Hawaii and I need to figure out the best way to get my 24 inch iMac across the ocean. Does anyone know the best way to do this? I have found GearGrip's LCD harness so that I can do carry-on onto the plane...  Or maybe use a Pelican Case to do it as a "checked bag"? Or any other suggestions??! Please help!
    Thanks so much!!

I don't recommend you send the iMac in a checked bag. Might get damaged.
Check the airlines website for carry on guidelines.
Or, if you have the original box that the iMac came in, if you have someone who can pick up the iMac for you, send it ahead Fed Ex and insure the package.
Just make sure the display is covered to protect it. A blanket perhaps.

  • Moving to Mac from PC, need to buy everything again ?

I noticed that in my download list there are only Windows downloads, and I'm moving from pc to mac. Do I need to buy everything again or.. ??
I have Production Suite CS5.5 and Photoshop Lightroom.
    Thanks

Um, I was hoping someone from the Store team would have answered. What you need to do is call Customer Service, and ask them to process the OS change. You will need to deactivate the serial numbers, uninstall the software, and send them a certificate of destruction for the Windows versions, and they should be able to provide you with keys for Mac.

Hi,  I have moved from Australia to New Zealand and cant update my account to an nz credit card...  What do i need to do?

    Hi...
Your credit or debit card credentials must be associated with the same country where you reside. So you need to establish a credit account with a bank in NZ.
"Although you can browse the iTunes Store in any country without being signed in, you can only purchase content from the iTunes Store for your own country. This is enforced via the billing address associated with your credit card or other payment method that you use with the iTunes Store, rather than your actual geographic location."

Safe mode is not what you want in this case. Reboot to recovery mode - hold down cmd-R as the Mac reboots. Go past the language-selection screen, click the Utilities menu, then Terminal. Type:
    resetpassword
Followed by the return key, and follow the prompts. Reboot normally when done.

Did you click the "change country or region" link in your account information in the iTunes Store? If not, you need to do that to change your country. Note that you will need a valid US credit card or US iTunes card to enter as payment method.

  • What are the things we need to take care while moving from 11g to 12c.

    Hi,
Moving from 11g to 12c will not impact anything.
Database in 11g will now act as PDB's in 12c.
And what makes you say so? What about the changes/fixes done in the optimizer that would alter the plans? What about if the client wants to use in-memory database option? And your statement that database in 11g will now act as PDB in 12c doesn't make any sense. What if the client is not willing to move to multitenancy? What about the scripts that are running in 11g without any issues and suddenly, will break in 12c  due to PDB's ? Do you have any technical reference to validate your claim that there won't be any impact ?

  • Need Help moving from mac to Windows

I did search the forum, but could not find it, so I thought I will ask.
I have to move from PowerBook to a Windows XP machine. (I see lots of threads moving from mac to windows but not otherway around).
How do I move the iTunes music. I want to keep the ratings, don't want to redo the ratings for 1000+ songs.
If it was previously asked and answered, please point me towards that thread.

    Folks,
Sorry for the redundant post. I had problem doing this, and was able to make it work. The trick was renaming the file iTunes Library to iTunes Library.itl (with the extension).
Once I did that, it works well.
    Thanks

  • Moving from the Sky SR102 Black

Hi, I'm on Sky Broadband (I am unable to get Fibre in our area).  I find like many other people that the range of the SR102 is dreadful, so have purched a TP-Link router (TP-LINK TD-W8970 V3 Gigabit Wireless N ADSL2+). I have got around the annoyance of Sky not liking you using other routers (I will be moving back to PlusNet at the earliest opportunity) by using WireShark and a YouTube tutorial. My ethernet connections now work great, but the wireless keeps cutting out.  Having searched the web I have found posts with ideas for settings that need tweaking with Fibre connections, but not for standard broadband. Does anyone have any tips? Many thanks

It looks like the official page Sky had with the settings on has either been moved or removed either way i cannot locate it any more(but i do still have the details of what waon it and will post it below).
When Sky purchased o2/BE broadband they provided generic details to allow those customers who migrated over to Sky so they could use their own routers(and to save Sky having to provide them all with free routers)these details can be used by all Sky ADSL2+ customers to use 3rd party routers (i did so for a year without issue before leaving for PlusNet Fibre). This is what was said on the page which is now missing. Moving from O2 to Sky Broadband using a router that wasn’t supplied by O2 - How to get connected
Moving from O2 Home Broadband to Sky and using a router that wasn’t supplied by O2?
Some O2 customers are currently using their own router (rather than the router supplied by O2) for their home broadband service and/or have their router in bridge mode.
If this is you we need you to change some settings so that you can continue to use your router once you switch over to the Sky service, and ensure there are no interruptions to your service. If you're unsure, please read the information below:
How do I know if my router was supplied by O2?
All routers supplied by O2 are clearly marked on the underside of the router. If your router has the O2 name or logo and it's not in bridge mode then you don't need to do anything. If your router is in bridge mode please read on.
What if I'm using a router that wasn't supplied by O2?
You don't need to do anything now, but after your broadband has been switched to the Sky service you'll need to adjust a few router settings to get your Sky Broadband up and running, follow the steps below:
    1. Enter the following details within the routers Graphical User Interface (GUI):Encapsulation: PPPoA (PPP over ATM)login/username: [email protected] Timeout: 0Internet IP Address: Get Dynamically from ISPDomain Name Server (DNS) Address: Get Automatically From ISPNAT: EnableMultiplexing Method: VC-BASEDVPI: 0VCI: 382. Save settings
What do I need to do if I'm using my O2 router in bridge mode?
It's simple, we need you to do a factory reset, press the reset pin on the back of the router - you can do this now. Once you've done this, you can carry on using your router as normal before you're switched over to the Sky service, but this will ensure that you have no issues once you've been switched.

  • I'm moving from windows notebook to MacBook Pro. When teaching I use a USB quality pointer device and want to know it the MacBook works with it

    Greetings,
After using only Windows computers at work and home our company leadership now allows us to purchase Mac Pro Books if we desire. I am VERY excited!!!
Both of our sons work as engineers in Silicon Valley and will not purchase anything but Macs for years.  Both son's schedules hinder me to get the answers quickly from them so I am seeking advice from you.
I love the idea of finally getting a Mac but have some questions and need to find a source to answer my questions before I send in the request for the new computer. If any of you could respond to these "beginner" Mac questions it would be wonderful.
    1. I teach a large variety of classes using Powerpoint style presentations. I own a very nice wireless USB remote that I use to move between slides.  Will the ProBook allow me the ability to use my remote? If so is there anything I need to know to make it work?
    2. What are the tradeoffs of the 13 inch ProBook versus the 15 inch model?
    3. What external devices/equipment should I plan to have available to be effective in an office environment?
    4. In moving from Windows to Mac what is the best was to bridge the learning curve so I can become effective as quickly and effectively as possible?
I am very excited to make this change and your advice would be so appreciated.
    Blessings,
    David

    David,
Have you checked the Web site of the manufacturer of your wireless USB remote, to see if their product supports MacBook Pros?
In general, the 13-inch MacBook Pro has less powerful hardware than the 15-inch model. A detailed comparison can be found in the right-hand column of the table here.
Which external devices/equipment do you currently have  to be effective in an office environment with your Windows computer? The list is likely to be similar with a computer that runs OS X.
Which applications do you currently depend upon under Windows? That might be the best guide to providing advice on how to best adapt to OS X.
