I'm looking for a spreadsheet program for my imac, I was thinking to get numbers or idatabase, also when I'm on Facebook and I try and watch/load a video it says I need flash player? What can I download so it automatically plays preferably free? Thanks

New mac mini and imac vs powermac G5 running FCP studio

I want to compare running the FCP suite on the new max minis and imacs that came out today vs what I am currently using:
Currently I am running FCP Studio on a Powermac G5 dual 2GHz with one gig of ram. I believe the frontside bus is 1GHz. I believe the stock video card isan ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (AGP 8X Pro) video card with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM.
With this being said, is it safe to assume that the new entry level mac mini would surpass my G5 in terms of performnce in both video (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with128MB or 256MB of shared DDR3) memory processing (intel core2 duo 2GHz)?
If not would the two low end Imacs (using NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256MB of shared DDR3 memory) and processing power handle FCP studio better than my current powermac G5 setup listed above?
I am wondering because I spoke to a apple sales person who transfered me to a system engineer that said I'd have a slow time rendering video on FCP with the mac minis as well as the 2 low end imacs. This may be but Im wondering if it is still better than what I am using

For FCP/FCS I would not save on anything but will get the max what my budget allow. You will be always doing more and the workflow in FCS will entice you to open almost all apps in FCS concurrently to make use of the advanced features. I think that the new iMac are powerful enough to handle FCS, but once again, the extra dollars will save you alot of pain. FCS is a pro app and is not to be underestimated. Good luck.

Is your DV camera plugged in to AC power (not batteries only)? When you step down from 9 pins to 4 pins, you lose the "power" pins.

I do store photos and videos of my kids and music on iTunes. I also like browsing the net with numerous windows open, check email etc. I am really wanting long battery life as I do a lot of my work on the couch - not close to a PowerPoint. Would the air do the trick or will it soon be outdated as Apple move towards retina display? Both air and pro seem very thin - almost the same? And not much difference in weight either so both very portable which is also a necessary requirement. Just can't help dreaming about that 12 hour claimed battery life. It's not likely that you'll get 12 hours in reql life. Those benchmarks are set under very strict controlled conditions. Kind of like mileage per gallon claims on cars. If 16GB of ram is an option at all I'd highly recommend you get that. As far as storage 256GB isn't alot, consider storing some things on an external thunderbolt real

You could try putting your contacts in through Gmail and then signing in with that Gmail on your iPad. You could also try searching for some kind of app that will transfer data easily (I'll look into it and update it if I find anything). I don't have any Microsoft products so I'm not sure if I'm much help but I'll definitely try. You'll definitely love coming to Apple it's much simpler and easier!

Bad or incompatible RAM is, more often then not, the cause of most Kernel Panics. It could also just need to be reset.
Here's the most used site for Resolving Kernel Panics. Please do all the steps in order, even if you don't think you need to do a certain step.

Flash is not supported on the iPad, and probably never will be as Apple don't want it, and Adobe have never managed to create a version of their flash player that works on iOS devices - and Adobe have recently announced that they are stopping development on all mobile versions of it.
Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter Puffin and Photon 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites, especially news sites, have their own apps in the App Store, and there is the built-in YouTube app.

You've checked the name and address on your iTunes account and it's in exactly the same format (including spacing and layout) as the credit card that you are trying to use is registered to ? And the card was issued by a bank in the country where you and your iTunes account are ?

Whether your music purchases will be in the cloud will depend upon what country that you are in, and whether it is still in the store (record companies occasionally remove their music) - you can't add music to the cloud without subscribing to iTunes Match.

As you've already found, you can't use mini cds in slot-loading drives (which is what Apple uses, as well as many PCs now).

Some Positive News on Apple and iPhone Dealings Today

Howdy. I have a good news story from my dealings with Apple and I felt the urge to send some positive news to the masses.
I bought an iPhone 3GS 16gb a month ago and had to make an appt at the Genuis Bar to get some help as battery life was woeful and had a few glitches to report.
The really friendly dude simply gave me a "new" (ie: Replacement) unit and I went away happy. That unit however had someone else's gremlins and did some freaky stuff (such as take a photo of the home screen on its own, rearranged icons literally before my eyes, and shut off and turned back on with reduced life!!).
I returned to the store in Doncaster (Melbourne) today and they provided me a FULL refund of outright costs and Apple plan on an Apple giftcard, then got me a NEW unit, no questions asked and out of the store in 20 minutes all set up and grinning again (coz I seriously love this phone, after being a Nokia and Blakberry Bold fan).
The staff (of 16 in store!!!!), were brilliant and provided Customer Service the way it should be done.
Nice Work Apple.....I tip my hat to you all.

New to Apple and Time Capsule Wireless

I am a new apple customer. I just bought my 1st iMac and I am trying to make the total break from MS.
I have mediacom as my ISP and my present wireless router is a Linksys WRT600n (purchased about 3 years ago). With this system I have had problems with coverage in my house as well as needing to reboot the device often.
The router is located in a 1st floor bedroom and I get spotty coverage in the living room and even more spotty service in the adjacent kitchen. The distances away from the router as the crow flies is 24 feet for the living room (involves 4 interior walls) plus 15 more feet (an another wall) to the kitchen. Since we use our wireless system more in our living room and our bedroom (this is only 12 feet away and 1 interior wall), I have decided to move the wireless router to the living room and place it on top of a entertainment center. My thinking is that it will provide better coverage to the areas where we use it (hoping to use Apple TV in both living room and bedroom).
This leads me to my question: what has been the experience of the time capsule community in regards to time capsule wireless coverage and reliability?
Also, please note that the iMac will be located in the same bedroom where I will be removing the current router and as such, the wireless backup capabilities of the time capsule will need to traverse the same 24 feet and 4 interior walls.
Any feedback will be most appreciated.

The reliability of the Apple Extreme is very good.. TC much less good. 3years is often a failure point for stuff that runs too hot. Like your WRT600N and the TC with its Green Drive and internal power supply.
On wireless range though I would say pretty ordinary. I have tested all the generations of the TC and most of the Extreme.. including Gen5. In my double storey house with an old G wireless modem router (downstairs extreme end).. right near the TC/AE whichever I am running.. from the other end of the house (upstairs) the old G wireless gives more than adequate signal to get full speed internet.. the TC does not.. And 5ghz goes pretty much to the next room and then disappears but that is as expected.
Use the tests here to find what give good range.

New Mac Pro and iMac as Display – Several Crashes

I am using a new Mac Pro (late 2013, 3.5 6C) and are really happy with it. But I have one problem …
Currently I am using an iMac 27" as a display via Apple Thunderbolt cable (original cable from Apple).
But when I switch my displays via cmd+f2, my mac pro sometimes crashes. So I can switch back to my iMac always, without issues. But sometimes, when I want to switch back to my running Mac Pro (no screensaver etc.), I cannot switch back and the Mac Pro simply reboots.
Any ideas what to do? I've sent a bug report to Apple already …
