I'm new to Mac, after many PCs. I have a new "all in one" I use Hughesnet gen 4 for Internet. I can't use my Mac help menu...I get message that it is not available. I took it back to store and no problem with help menu. I was told by Apple Genius bar that

I can't get to computer help menus, get error not available at this time. I was told by apple that the problem is with Hughesnet Gen 4. I called them and they have no answers. No other problems accessing the net.I have lots of questions as I am new to Mac and this is very frustrating. Can anyone help?

    I was dragging folders from main folders on the laptop-desktop  onto the external drive icon - to copy them across....
    Your suggestion sounds very promising -  I didn't know about 'cloning'.
    Yes the idea is to backup the laptop -    I thought I would just move it all now, new - and then keep saving/dragging physically   across to the new drive myself each day or two...
    Would this be the sizeof the internal hard drive = c.500 gb  ?   =   under the HD icon on desktop is written  : 
    " 499.76gb , 311.5 gb free  " 
    I can erase and start agin on the new external drive - so this plan is to make two partititions, rather than the one at present, and make one of them 500 gb ?
    I have found CCC [carbon copy cloner] googling - looks good.
    When CCC site says it backs up  the hard drive - would this  mean all my files  [over 100 gb] that are mostly  in folders on the desktop, plus the others in itunes, iphotos etc found in the HD icon,  would all copy across successfully [wherever they are in the computer ]  ?

    It would be great and amazing if this 'lack of permission' message doesn't show up in the process of doing this ccc transfer - hopeful!

    Contact App Store support. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store Window. They're the only ones who can sort out account issues.

                   The partition method worked after some trepidation.  I got the spinning beach ball after partitioning and couldn't go further till I named the second partition.  That may have done it.  Right now, things seem to be working o.k.  I'm updating a current iPhoto and will have to get a MS Word program that will function on the current OS and a current  Quicken.
    If necessary, can start up from the 10.6.8 system which I downloaded to an external HD before updating.  I can always fall back on that.  Also, I hope I don't get too many disconnects.  Thank you for your help.

    Most likely that is the reason.  I have a screen protector on and see similar issues when the iPhone is not on.  They're not noticeable when turned on.  Remove it and see the difference.

    I am having the same problem which has happened very infrequently before. Generally it's one photo and happened when my battery died.
    However today I tried to download six photos.
    None would download including several others for a total of 21 that would not download.
    Since I had just installed a new powered hub and added three new external 4T hard drives, I got concerned that it was the hub. Then got really worried that I'd have problems with the data I have been backing up.
    However following this sequence of events, I've determined it's not the hub, but still don't know what is causing the problem.
    (1) Put a fresh battery in the camera - same results
    (1.5) Used a different port in the new hub - same results
    (2) Put the card in the card slot in the back of my iMac - no problems except that one image I knew about last week. The six new images imported.
    (3) Tried again using the cable - still same error
    (4) Changed cables - my husband has the same camera - still same error
    (4) Put the card in his camera with his cable - still same error
    (5) Put the card in a card reader and used the same slot in the new hub - no problems - same one wouldn't import but message that there are no new photos to import.
    (6) Moved the offending one image to the Trash while the card was in the card reader
    (7) Put the card back into my camera and used my cable. iPhoto had no error and displayed the message there are no new photos.
    Conclusion:
    Not the camera
    Not the cable
    Not the hub
    Must remove bad photo from the card
    However, I have not had to do that before. I went through several imports on vacation when there was one bad image and just ignored it each time.
    Any idea why this is happening now?

  • My auto update is failing. I tried reboot and run as admin, but did not help. I get message: The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again.

    I followed the instructions on the support page. I did a Windows restart. I cannot see how other copies of Firefox could be running. No other apps have been launched and Task Manager only shows one copy of Firefox and no other apps. I have tried several times and always get the same result.

    When I bought my Iphone 5, (Not 5S or 5C) from apple store, I was told by apple customer service that it is 4G compatible. I have always been with Vodaphone and I tried to upgrade my sim only contract to 4G. I have been told last week by Vodaphone that original Iphone 5 is not 4G compatible.     Why are you disappointed?   Apple was 100% correct, the iPhone 5 is a "4G" LTE device.  Whether it is compatibable with your carriers 4G/LTE network is something that you, as the user, must confirm prior to purchase.  If EE is the only supported LTE carrier in the UK, that is unfortunate but something that could have easily been found out at/before purchase.
    When asking about 4G compatibility, did you simply ask if it was a 4G/LTE device or did you specifically ask it if would work with your carrier on their 4G/LTE network?

    There's been a few of these today. I think there must be a problem with the redemption server and you probably just need to wait a while and try again.

    I cannot find the answer anywhere. You need to  give answers to how to fix these errors because when I  "search" "error code" or the number there is NOTHING. NOTHING!  Yet you give us these stupid error codes
    then you do not give us ANYTHING on how to fix these. These error codes make me so mad it makes me hate outlook, and hate the developers and hate microsoft.  How in the world can you give us ERROR codes without the explanation of what
    to do or how to fix it. You need to  add each  error code number in your "search" then explain what it is and how to fix it.  I am not a tech. I am a lawyer. I have googled the entire string of error code and nothing is clear.
    So, for the last several years, I get these error codes. Also, there is another error code that won't go away--it is the password error code that asks if I want to store the password. Yes, so I say YES. but it pops back. I am sick of this. This is the reason

    I understand how frustrated you are when facing such an issue, maybe I can provide some suggestions on the problem.
    Based on the description, you should be using an IMAP account setup in Outlook. As for the error message, usually it's caused by a corrupted message on the Server. I suggest you logon the Webmail site, check if sending/receiving emails works well.
    If you find any unusual emails that cannot be read or sent, try deleting them to try again.
    I also suggest you create a new profile to setup the IMAP account:

    Contact your Email Service Provider to get the correct and latest account settings, since you have been using Outlook for years, some settings may have been changed while you haven't been informed.

    It appears Best Buy is up to their old tricks of palming off returned units as new. Take it back for a complete refund of your money. If they give you any static escalate your problem to management immediately.
