I'm new to mac and was wondering if my imac came with a spreadsheet program?

No. It comes with iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand.
You can purchase and install Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
NeoOffice
Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
Keynote - presentation
Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • Am new to using a mac and was wondering

Am new using a mac and was wondering is it normal that my macpro restarts more then once at the gray screen of an update?? HELP?

Try the MacBOOK Pro forums / the Snow Leopard OS section about updates.
And my guess is, No it is not normal.
Updates go through a couple of phases to download, prepare, and then do install. Finally getting more like Windows which is a safer method.
You might want to do a Safe Boot before and after the update is done (not on the first restart when applying)

Hi, I´m new to mac, i was wondering if i get lost my MacBook Pro could exist some action to can find it, like satelital position or something.

If you're running Mountain Lion (which I'm assuming you are if your MBP is new) you can set up Find My Mac under System Preferences>iCloud. You can also use a free online service such as Prey.
No guarantee to keep your MBP from being stolen, but at least you can find it if it's on (and if the criminals aren't Mac experts).

  • I want to get a Mac and was wondering if i could trade my macbook in and pay the difference

I want to get a Mac and was wondering if i could trade my macbook in and pay the difference

Apple does not do trade ins of old computers. Your best bet is to sell it yourself and apply what you get to your purchase.
eBay and CraigsList offer good venues for selling.
    Best of luck.

  • I recently bought the newest macbook pro with only 120 GB of disk space I need to upgrade and was wondering if this would work with my computer 500GB New Sata 2.5" hard drive?

I bought the newest macbook pro 13" with only 120 GB of space. I quickly used all of the space up and need a lot more. I was wondering if this disk is compatible with the model i have.
500GB New Sata 2.5" hard drive

Your best practical option is buying a 1TB external HD for $65
The "low" capacity of the SSD on the Air and entry level Retina are meant to be working platforms for these computers.
Meaning ALL your programs and your working data (stuff you use at least every week).
To try to use either the Air or  Retina as a storage platform of any king (lots of pics, music, movies etc.) is both not indicated or practical.
external storage, quality too, is absurdly cheap right now.
    You asked:
These are very expensive theres no way that an hdd drive would be compatible with my Mac?
    yes, a superslim external HD.
    see this: only 7mm thick

Or better still this HUGE HD, which is very small, very reliable and very cheap:
    2 Terabytes, 2.5" and only $119

  • I am new to Mac and am wondering if I make an Album in iPhoto  by moving similar events that have been dated into the album will they just merge or will the events move into the album and keep their date

I am new to the MacBook Pro and am wondering if I make an Album in iPhoto by using events that have titles and dates will I loose the titles and dates??I had hoped to combine my ie. 2010 Trip pictures  Grandchildren pictures etc but do not want to lose the dating of them.
What advice does anyone out there have for a program to add text to the pictures. I have been using Paint Shop on my PC but want to switch totally to the MAC
    Thank you

1 - iPhoto is a database and there is a learning curve - it  is all about photos and nothing about files - under teh help menu ==> iPhoto help watch the movies - that will help get you started more smoothly
2 - there never is a reason to go directly into the iPhoto library - do not do it (inclusing via the all images display in teh finder) - doing so can cause loss of data and photos
3 - preview or a third party editor can add text to photos
4 - events are very basic automatic automatic things and generallly it is best to leave them as buckets of photos and organize via albums and folders - and using keywords, faces and places and smart albums
5 - dates are part of the metadate stored in the EXIF fields of the photo - moving a photo will not affect that (but note that file managers like the finder do not look at the photo metadate - they look at teh file metadate which is seperate

  • I bought this MacBook Pro 15.4" 1.83 GHz MA463LL/A with 2gb of RAM for real cheap on eBay because I'm poor and can't afford a new MACBOOK PRO and was wondering what everyone thinks about these laptops and what can and should I upgrade when I get money?

I bought this older MACBOOK PRO 15.4" 1.83 GHz with 2gb of RAM and Leopard 10.5 on eBay for real cheap because I don't have the money to buy a new one like I would like to  do, and it comes with a disk to upgrade the OS to 10.6 and I was wondering what all I can and should upgrade (short of the whole computer) as I have the money to do so? Or did I just get really hosed?

You have the original Core Duo model. 2 GBs is the most RAM you can install, so the only thing you could upgrade would be the hard drive. Doing so is not a trivial task but you can find suitable hard drives and installation tutorials at OWC.
Since yours is a Core Duo model you can upgrade OS X to Snow Leopard, but not to Lion which requires a Core 2 Duo or better.

Check out this link from Jeffrey Travis
    http://www.jeffreytravis.com/lost/labperl.html
"LabPerl is a cross-platform API for letting LabVIEW and Perl communicate. It consists of some LabVIEW VIs and 2 Perl modules (.pm) files that allow Perl functions to call LabVIEW VIs and pass data, and viceversa. You should be somewhat familiar with Perl before trying to use LabPerl."
I do not know if it will do what you want as I never tried it, but it is worth a try.

  • HT3224 I am new to Mac and started transferring data from my PC to my new Macbook Pro.  Connection was lost once I started and now my Pro is stuck on the 'Transferring Information' screen.  How do I get out of this screen to attempt the connection again?

II am new to Mac and was trying to transfer data from my PC to my new Macbook Pro.  The connection was lost however and now my Pro is stuck on the 'Transferring you nformation' screen.  How do I get out of this screen so I can attempt the connection again?  Is it safe to force shut down of my Mac and will it still prompt me through all the setup process again?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If your Mac and PC are connected by Ethernet, unplug and plug that cable again. If not, you have to turn off the MacBook by holding the Power button.
In the next startup, try to transfer your files again. It's important not to interrupt the transfer process, because in most cases, you will stop it and you won't be able to resume it

  • I got a new desktop and was wondering if I could....

I just got a new desktop computer and was wondering if I have to add everything all again or if I can transfer the one off of the laptop to my desktop and still have everything on itunes? Any help would be appreciated!

Choose Consolidate Library from the Advanced menu or the Library section of the File menu in iTunes, find the iTunes library location from the iTunes preferences, and move the folder to the new computer using any method necessary, such as an external drive, optical disks, or a network connection.

  • Just purchased Z97 Gaming 7 and was wondering about Compatibility with RAM

    Hello there,
Just purchased the Z97 Gaming 7 MB and was wondering if it is compatible with the following RAM -
    Kingston HyperX 16 GB 1600 Mhz CL9 DDR3 HyperX Beast Desktop Memory Kit (2 x 8GB) - Intel XMP
    G.Skill 16GB Ripjaws X Dual Channel Memory Kit - Blue (2x 8GB, DDR3 1600MHz,1.5v, F3-1600C9D-16GXM, XMP Ready)
Corsair CMZ16GX3M2A1600C9 Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz CL9 XMP Performance Desktop Memory Kit Black
Regarding the Kingston, the model number specified in the MSI compatibility list of this board is very similar to the ram I've listed.
Thanks in advance and feel free to share your opinion on the rams or if you recommend anything else.
    Thanks

It's too late for that.    OP inquired about Z97, this has taken a turn to a Z87 and a debate.
Seems you have a bit to learn about RAM speed and actual performance achieved. Over 1866 doesn't show much gain. Higher the speed the more you have to 'loosen' the timings, :: rest of quote snipped ::
Yes, I probably could learn a thing or two about memory I suppose.  I don't claim to be an expert on this subject.  But, I've built several systems (always with Asus boards...) for 15 years or so for myself, family, and friends.  I have a BS in computer science and masters in Electrical Engineering working in the SCADA/Control Systems field (look it up) so I do know a thing or two.  I've never had a problem till now, my first MSI board.
I'm not sure how responding to a thread, hoping a user’s experience with memory would benefit me, is "hijacking" a thread but call it what you will.  I don't recall too much of a debate except from you and the forum memory expert (not the GSKill guy, the other guy...) so back off.  Funny how MSI's recommended memory list(s) prominently mention GSKill as being compatible multiple times with my exact memory, the F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH, being listed as well.  Yet, GSKill is up to something funny with their timings which benefit only Asus or whatever while causing problems on everyone else motherboards.
For future reference, I'm not claiming anything in particular (such as memory) is causing my system to crash.  I saw the forum sticky about GSKill memory and this thread which mentions GSkill.  Since I'm using GSkill, which I have for multiple system builds without issues in the past, I began to wonder about something.  After all, things do happen.  Perhaps I simply got some bad sticks or something.  It does happen regardless of brand/vendor.
For the record, I suspect the stupid Killer NIC, its driver, and/or system tray panel are to blame for my issue(s).  The more I think about this NIC, the more I hate it.  Give a boost to a specific app/game for better performance.  That's marketing BS.  All it does is give a specific app/game priority by purposely dropping performance of all the other apps so the designated process looks better relative to the other programs on the same system.  I call that false advertising and potentially something worse.
Time will ultimately tell where my issue is.
MSI may have lost a customer...
The best of everything to everyone here and enjoy the rest of the day,
    Chris

  • Being new to working with Mac, I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to set my Mac Book Pro wirelessly to the Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark ll? My husband had gotten this printer and the sales person said that it can be set up wirelessly to my Mac Book Pro

Being new to working with a Mac, I was wondering if anyone can tell me step, by step on how to set up my Mac Book Pro(Mid 2012) wirelessly to a Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark ll that my husband had gotten me? Sales person told him that it's compatiable to my Mac Book Pro, Mtn Lion, but I do not see it and I don't see how to do it wirelessly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks ;o)

    Hello:
There is nothing wrong with asking questions.  There  are no dumb questions....answers, yes, but not questions.
If you set up your wi-fi router to establish a network, then both your printer and MacBook Pro will connect wirelessly.  *** I do not know what kind of router you possess, I don't want to suggest things that might not be relevant.

P.S. No need to apologize!  Most of the people here (none of us are Apple employees) enjoy trying to help others.

  • Hi,new to macs and just purchased a macbook Air,was wondering if anyone uses Microsoft Office on their macs and if it works exactly the same as on a windows based computer.

Hi all, i am new to Macs and have just purchased a Macbook Air,the only problem i have is there is no Microsoft Office installed, can anyone tell me if office for macs works exactly the same as the windows based version.
Is there any problems i should look out for ?
    Thanks Paul.

The Windows and Mac versions of Office are not exactly the same but few people will notice the differences between Word, Excel and PowerPoint unless they are macro gurus. Outlook is different and the Mac version doesn't include Access or Publisher.

  • HT201250 I use Time Machine to back up my entire computer with my external hard drive. I am getting a brand new iMac this month and was wondering what is the process of using this back up to restore my new computer exactly how my old computer was?

I use Time Machine to back up my entire computer with my external hard drive. I am getting a brand new iMac this month and was wondering what is the process of using this back up to restore my new computer exactly how my old computer was? I want to make sure I will still have various important files on my new computer, like my songs in iTunes, my photos in iPhoto, etc, etc. Thanks so much in advance!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you turn on the new iMac for the first time, Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so connect the external disk and follow steps to restore all your files to your new iMac. Your new Mac will have the same settings and programs as your old computer.
In other cases, I would recommend to restore the whole backup without using Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant, but a Late 2012 iMac uses a special OS X build, so the OS X version that you're using on your old Mac won't work on the new one.
