I'm new to PSE 12, and

It won't open my camera photos. I plug the camera into the computer, turn it on, and it comes up on a fake PS 7, which I had before. I thought it was gone, but it's now a ghost that was deleted when I replaced my computer - it keeps telling me it can't open but I can't find anything to remove that connection.in my program files. Advice?

Hi,
Well, Microsoft no longer support Windows XP so you are leaving your system vulnerable.
Changing from Windows XP to Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 is a bit of a major step but I find that Windows 7 is faster and better than XP and I think that Windows 8.1 is even better. Many didn't like the original Windows 8 but improvements have been made in the 8.1 update.
Now for your problem.
Connect up your camera and switch it on.
Click on Start and then My computer - that should open up the Windows explorer and hopefully you should see your camera there.
Right click on your camera and select Properties.
The second tab should be AutoPlay - select that.
From the drop down list, select Pictures
Click on the option Select an action to perform and search the list for Organize and edit for Photoshop Elements 12 - select that
Click on OK and close Windows Explorer.
Incidentally, I prefer to use a card reader rather than connect my camera each time.
Hopefully, the next time you connect your camera, it should load the organizer
Good luck
Brian

  • Why does new PSE 8 and 9 both crash on my new Toshiba laptop with Windows 7?

I bought new PSE Elements 8 and 9 and both crashed immediately on my new Toshiba Satellite P 755 laptop with Windows 7 64 bit OS. I tried going into Properties of PSE 9 and going to Compatability and putting in Windows 7 but it didn't do any good. Please help!

    Hi,
Please try couple of probable solutions as mentioned below:
    Solution 1:
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
Solution 3: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.
    Solution 4:
On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go  to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements  10\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain  plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.

Trying to install pse 11 on my new iMac  downloaded okay and made it thru the installation registration process then it crashes

Alanh11455686 from the portion of the error you have posted it appears that there maybe some problems updating, removing, or modifying the currently installed color profiles on your computer.  I would recommend reviewing the installation logs more closely to confirm that is the case.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation log files at Troubleshoot install using logs | Elements.  You are welcome to post any specific errors you discover to this discussion.
I am sorry but the only direct support available for Photoshop Elements 11 is if you are facing activation or licensing issues.  I believe the current error is resolvable once the offending files/folders have been removed or the file permissions have been updated.

  • Adobe PSE 10 and 11 refuse to open.

    Hi, guys.
I've been using PSE 10 on my current computer (currently running Windows 7, 64-bit) for quite some time now--a little over a year, I'd say. Everything worked fine before; I was able to open the editor and use it without problems. Just yesterday, I bought a new Intuos Creative tablet, and as soon as I finished installing it, I tried opening PSE 10's editor only to find that when the loading screen comes up, it'll freeze at "Initializing..." and I have to force-close the process with Task Manager. I've tried creating desktop shortcuts to the folders, I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the program, I've tried running it in compatablility modes, and nothing works. The same thing applies to PSE 11's editor. Neither program will load, and I'm confused as to why this is happening (I made it so that I bypass the welcome screen, so I'm not sure how I'd be able to get there now). The strange thing is that the tablet and PSE 10 and 11 work just fine on the family desktop computer (running Windows Vista 32-bit).
Is there a way of fixing this, or could it just be my tablet? Could it just be Windows 7 (as mentioned before, everything seems to work just fine on the family computer) and my tablet driver not getting along or something?
Any help with this is appreciated greatly. Thanks.

Try reverting to a system restore point just before installing your tablet. If things start working again then there is most likely a compatibility issue. You should also search the Intuos Creative site for an updated driver.
    Cheers,
    Neale

  • I'm new to Elements 10 and I need HELP....

I'm new to Elements 10 and I'm having a hard time figuring things out but 1 thing in particular.  I'm on a PC and use Windows 7.
    Here's the deal:
I already import a lot of pic's to Elements or so I thought.
When I'm in  "Folder Location" and click on a folder it doesn't display any pictures and says "No files from this folder have been imported into Elements Organizer. To add any files, right click on the folder and select "Import to Organizer"
So I do as I'm told and then i get this error.
"Nothing was imported. The files or folders selected to import did not contain any supported file types or the files are already in this catalog."
Am I doing something way wrong? I'm obviously no techy.
    Thank You.
    Curly Koala

I found PSE 10 Organizer so slow and so complicated that I finally uninstalled it. It is easily uninstalled from the Control Panel, under Uninstall a Program.
I use Picasa. It's free and it's fast. I right click on my image and select the open in PSE option.
Sorry I can't give you a better answer.

  • Quickly reconnecting large numbers of photos in PSE 6 and 7

[This is a significant revision of my message posted here on 2/8/2008 and in the Photoshop Elements 6.0 FAQ forum on 2/9/2008. It is split across two messages.]
    Part I of II
When you move photos from one location to another using Windows Explorer or some other tool outside of the Organizer, PSE reports those files as missing, and a question mark appears on the thumbnails in the Organizer. The File > Reconnect command can reconnect those files with their new location, but it can be very slow and sometimes only connects a few files at a time.
Its always best to move files and folders using the Organizer, avoiding the need to reconnect. But if youve already moved those files, here are some ways of coping in PSE 6 and 7:
    1. Move the files back to their original location using Windows Explorer. Then use the Organizers Display > Folder Location view or the File > Move command to move the files to the desired new location. In the left-hand folder pane of Folder Location view, you can drag and drop folders, just like in Windows Explorer (this isnt documented in the Help).
Since the File > Move command moves files to a single destination folder, its not that useful for working with more than one folder. The PSE 6 Move command also has a serious bug if you move a file to a folder that already has a file of the same name, the destination file gets permanently deleted. (Thats fixed in PSE 7.)
    2. Reconnect an entire folder all at once. If you cant or dont want to use the first method, you can use File > Reconnect > All Missing to reconnect more than one file at a time.
Its not immediately obvious, but the Reconnect > All Missing window can reconnect an entire folder of files all at once. On the left-hand side, under Files Missing from Catalog, click Select All. On the right side, under Locate the Missing Files, browse to the folder containing the files. A thumbnail of one of the files should be displayed. Click Reconnect, and all the files in the folder will be reconnected. If there are files in other folders remaining to be connected, theyll still be displayed on the left, and you can repeat the process.
    3. Reconnect an entire folder tree all at once. If youve moved an entire tree of folders and theyre now disconnected, you can persuade PSE to reconnect them all quickly.
    a. In Edit > Preferences > Files, select the option Automatically Search For And Reconnect Missing Files.
    b. Do File > Reconnect > Missing File to reconnect one file manually.
    c. Do File > Reconnect > All Missing. PSE will start searching near the folder containing the missing file you reconnected in step b, and it will usually find all the missing files within a couple of minutes of searching.
    d. If step c doesnt find all the missing files, or youre impatient, you can explicitly tell PSE where to search:
]i. Do Help > System Info and write down the folder location of your catalog.
    ]ii. Exit PSE.
]iii. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the catalog folder.
]iv. Open the file rmf.3.cache in Notepad. This file was created in step b above. It contains the most recent folders in which you reconnected files (rmf = reconnected media folders), and the Reconnect command always searches these folders first before scanning the rest of your drives.
]v. Delete all of the contents of the file and add a single line containing the full path of root of the folder tree containing your photos. For example, if you moved the folder tree to E:\data\photos, add that as a single line to the file.
    ]vi. Save the file.
]vii. Restart PSE and do File > Reconnect All Missing again. It should first search the folder tree you provided in step v.

<i>Part II of II</i><br /><br /><b>4. Reconnect folders residing on a network drive.</b> If youve moved folders that originally resided on one network drive to another network drive, the Organizer will treat them as offline rather than missing, and it will show a red circle with a vertical line in the corner of the thumbnails.   An offline file is one that might show up later on, such as when you reconnect your laptop to the network containing your file server or you insert a DVD containing your archived photos.<br /><br />Since the moved files are offline, the PSE 6 Reconnect All Missing command wont do anything but tell you there are no files to reconnect.  You can force PSE to reconnect many offline files at once:<br /><br />a. • PSE 7 and LR2

I have PSE 7 and online photo back up on photoshop.com.  I just recently purchased Lightroom 2 (LR2) to edit my RAW files and am not certain where to start.
I do not want to store pictures in the seperate locations already established by me on my computer and that which is the "default" storage location for LR2. More spcifically, I keep my PSE pics in an Adobe file on my C drive and LR defaults to the My Pictures file in my documents.
If I copy all of the files/folders from Adobe to a new file in the My Pictures folder for LR how will PSE know where to sync my online album from?
Help please with my work flow.
    Kay Howard

Can I do this with PSE 7?  I read somewhere that later versions of PSE cannot be imported into LR2 using the import tool (I know I can do it manually).  I agree about two organizers.  My overconfident, overinflated opinion of my understanding of said caused me to delete all of my pictures from their current storage location recently.  Thank goodness for Photoshop.com.
Thanks so much for your assistanace.

  • PSE 6 and Vista 64

Is anyone having any problems running Photoshop Elements 6 on Vista 64 bit?  I just got a new computer with Vista 64 bit and don't know if it's safe to install version 6 or if I should buy version 7.
    Thanks,
    Carol

Many people have reported PSE 6 and 7 running well on Vista 64, and no more problems are reported for Vista 64 than Vista 32.   But Adobe doesn't officially support PSE 6 on Vista 64, and it gives out confusing messages about PSE 7.  See this FAQ:

  • Using PSE 6 and 7 with DPI's larger than 96

Many people have discovered that if they increase the DPI (dots per inch) of their high-resolution Windows monitor to make text more readable, the PSE 6 and 7 Organizer will no longer show the menu bars.
I just discovered a workaround: In the Organizer, set the option Edit > Preferences > General > Use System Font. This works on my Vista system for both 6 and 7, but I havent tested it on XP or other computers.
The results arent always the prettiest, e.g. the font in the Editors menu bar stays small, but the font in the dropdown menus gets large, and much of the PSE text stays small. But this workaround at least lets you keep the DPI large so that you can read the text in all your other applications.

Hello, I have been experiencing similar problems and followed the suggestion and yes, the raw icon comes up as illustrated but there is nothing there to indicate any further action can be taken.  So I am presuming that means it is installed and no further action required?
Here's my problem:  I have had no problems  getting my pics into my organiser in Elements 12 from either my Nikon D7100 or my Fujifilm X100S - until last week.  Suddenly when they are imported all I see is the timer icons but they don't open to let me view them.  If I click on one it will open and I can then edit it but it will not save an image onto the grid for me to view so it's really frustrating not being able to view all my photos in order to decide what to edit and compare them.
Here's what action I've taken so far - restarted the computer (endlessly), checked the updates and installed them, checked I have the latest raw plug in (I do) and gone into edit/update thumbnail (doesn't do a thing) - and torn out a fair amount of my hair.  So anyone out there experienced this and can give me some advice? Please?

  • List of differences between PSE 40 and PSE30

A lot of users are asking what are the differences between PSE 30 and PSE 40.
This Thread provides information on this subject. First, you will find information copied from the section "New Features" of the useful "Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 User Guide". Then later on, you might find additional information on the same subject provided by users of PSE.
--- Start of copy of information in the PSE 4.0 User Guide ----
    1 What's new in PSE 4.0
    1.1 Editing and selection
    1.1.1 Magic Selection Brush tool
Easily and accurately select portions of your photos using this new tool in either Standard Edit and Quick Fix. Simply scribble or place dots on the object you want to select -no need to precisely outline the object- and Adobe Photoshop Elements selects the object for you. You can add to or subtract from the selection by using additional tools in the options bar. (See User Guide "To use the Magic Selection Brush tool" on page 193.)
    1.1.2 Magic Extractor.
Easily select an object in a photo and extract it from its background. Just scribble or place dots on
the object you want to extract; then scribble or place dots on the background, and Photoshop Elements separates the object from its background. This tool is perfect for creating composites or scrapbook images. (See User Guide "To use the Magic Extractor" on page 194.)
    1.1.3 Skin tone adjustment
Click an area of skin and watch the tonal balance of all colors in the photo improve. If you
want, you can also manually adjust the color by using color sliders. (See User Guide "To adjust the color of skin tone" on page 224.)
    1.1.4 Red eye removal
Automatically remove red eye during import, or select one or more files and easily remove red eye
in either the Organizer or the Editor. (See User Guide "To remove red eye" on page 249.)
    1.1.5 Defringe
Automatically remove the colored specs or halo around the edges of a selection. (See User Guide "To defringe a Selection" on page 200.)
    1.1.6 Straighten tool
Straighten and crop crooked photos by drawing a horizontal or vertical line in the image. Photoshop
Elements aligns the photo to that line. (See User Guide "To straighten an image" on page 243.)
    1.1.7 WYSIWYG font menu
What you see is what you get -see what each font looks like from within the font menu. (See
User Guide "To choose a font family and style" on page 332.)
    1.2 Sharing and printing
1.2.1 One-click printing (US, Canada, Japan only)
Order prints and professional hardbound photo books directly from Photoshop Elements simply by dragging the items to the Order Prints palette. (See User Guide "To use the Order Prints palette (US, Canada, Japan only)" on page 401.)
    1.2.2 Slide shows on TV
If you have Windows¨ XP Media Center 2005 installed, you can view your Photoshop Elements
slide shows on your TV and navigate using your TV remote control. (See User Guide "To output a slide show" on page 354.)
    1.3 Tagging and organizing
    1.3.1 Face tagging
Select a group of photos and let Photoshop Elements isolate and display all the faces so that you can
quickly tag them. The Find Faces dialog box displays thumbnails of each face until you tag it. (See User Guide "To automatically find faces for tagging" on page 101.)
    1.3.2 Search by metadata
Search for a variety of metadata criteria, such as file name, file type, shutter speed, camera
model, date, and tags. You can search on multiple criteria at once. (See User Guide "To find photos by details (metadata)" on page 89.)
    1.3.3 PDF support
Manage and tag PDF files in the Organizer. PDF files remain intact as one file that you can tag. Open
the PDF in the Editor to extract individual pages. (See User Guide "To open a PDF file" on page 148.)
--- Continuation in next Post of this Thread ----

--- Continuation from previous Post -----
    2 What's changed in PSE 4.0
    2.1 Editing and selecting
    2.1.1 Crop tool
Freely change image size boundaries while cropping an image. When you're happy with your crop marks,
click the Commit button , which is now conveniently located at the bottom right corner of the crop border. (See User Guide "To crop an image" on page 240.)
    2.1.2 Paragraph text
Create paragraph text by dragging a border with the Text tool. The text you enter inside the border
wraps to remain inside the boundaries. (See User Guide "To add text" on page 329.)
    2.1.3 Quick Fix
Use the newly enhanced automatic correction options for the most common photo flaws. (See User Guide "To correct color in Quick Fix" on page 207.)
    2.1.4 Easier color management
Easily get the color you expect when printing. N ew options and improved embedded
profile support streamline color management. (See User Guide "About color management" on page 236.)
    2.1.5 Advanced camera raw
Fine tune exposure and lighting by working with the raw data from your digital camera, and
easily export photos to the universal DNG format. (See User Guide "About camera raw image files" on page 159.)
    2.1.6 Artifact reduction
Quickly remove noise caused by shooting in low light or with ISO camera settings by using the
new Remove JPEG Artifacts option in the Noise filter. (See User Guide "Reduce Noise" on page 289.)
    2.2 Sharing and printing
    2.2.1 Multimedia slide shows
Create feature-rich slide shows with all the new tools and options available in the Slide Show
    Editor:
    a) Gracefully move from one image to another by adding interesting transitions between each slide. You can choose from over 50 transitions, such as dissolves and doors. (See User Guide "To add and edit transitions" on page 352.)
    b) Add text and graphics with the click of a button. (See User Guide "To add text to a slide" on page 348 and "To add clip art graphics to a slide" on page 347.)
    c) Make your slide show feel more like a video by panning and zooming your slides. For instance, you can pan from a face on the left side of an image to a face on the right side of the image. (See User Guide "To set pan and zoom" on page 350.)
    d) Add background music, make the duration of your slides match the duration of your audio, and narrate your slides all with the click of a button. (See User Guide "To add music to a slide show" on page 347 and "To add narration to a slide" on page 350.)
    e) Quickly reorder or edit your slides without leaving the Slide Show Editor. (See User Guide "To reorder slides" on page 346.)
    f) Preview anytime by clicking the Preview button, and then output your slide show by burning a DVD (if you have Adobe ' Premiere' Elements installed), sending it in e-mail, sharing it online, or sending it to your TV. (See User Guide "To output a slide show" on page 354.)
    2.2.2 Photo mail
Turn plain e-mail into theme-based Photo Mail with enhanced and easier to use captions. (See User Guide "To send a photo using Photo Mail" on page 407.)

Create original desktop wallpaper using multiple photos. (See User Guide "To use photos as desktop
    Wallpaper" on page 367.)
    2.2.4 Creations
Create your own cards, calendars, and photo albums, and then print them on your printer, upload them
to the web, or burn them to CD. (See User Guide "About creations" on page 343.)
    2.3 Viewing, tagging, and organizing
    2.3.1 Faster download
Use the enhanced Photo Downloader to quickly download photos from your digital camera and
mobile phone, even when Photoshop Elements is not running. (See User Guide "To get photos from a digital camera or card reader" on page 62.)
2.3.2 Full Screen and Side By Side View
View your photos in full screen without the clutter of command menus and tools.
(See User Guide "Viewing photos at full screen or side-by-side" on page 76.)
2.3.3 Automatic organization and view options
View your photos as arranged automatically by date, or use the intuitive
Date View or the enhanced Folder Location view. (See User Guide "To sort files in the Photo Browser" on page 71.)
    2.3.4 Address book
Import your addresses from Microsoft Outlook address book or vCards. (See User Guide "Using the contact Book" on page 404.)

  • New to PSE 5, How can I ?

I'm trying to convert several JPEGs into Clip Art. I need to remove the background from the image and save that file as a TGA file with a transparent background. Any advice, I'm new to PSE 5.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    >select alpha channels. In PSE I don't see where to select alpha channels.
I presume you are referring to another product when you say "previous versions of photoeditor had this feature". PE does, too, and it's always in the same place. Make a selection, go to Selection>Save Selection and save the selection, then Load the Saved Selection, save the file and it should appear as an alpha channel in most other programs.

  • PSE 12 and GPS Data

    Hi.
Have found only one other post about this and it seems that there may be some misunderstanding as to what some users are doing, so I will explain in some detail. Please note that I have only just moved to PSE 12.
I import the my photos directly from my Flash Cards into the Organiser Album (Ctrl+G). As my camera does not have an internal GPS, I take an external GPS with me and use GeoSetter to update the EXIF data on the imported images. GeoSetter not only provides the GPS coordinates it also provides the location names (country, state, city, etc.) and this is all populated into the EXIF file. This data is visible to the PSE 12 Organiser.
On an old versions of PSE (that had Yahoo maps) I would then refresh the images (have forgotten the command) and the GPS data would be used by the Organiser. I would then select the images and use "Show on Map" and all shot and location points would become visible on the map.
I assume that PSE 12 can accept GPS and Location data from the EXIF, if its imported from the card because it does seem to have this functionality.
I'm unable to find a way to get PSE 12 to refresh the Organiser so that it can now use the GPS and Location data that has been written to the EXIF file after its been imported.
    Can anybody help?

Some things that I have found out:
If you select your new photos (or all, if this is the first time you are using PSE 12 and you have imported an old catalogue), "Right Click" -> "Update Thumbnails" the GPS locations from the images will show on the Map. While the flags have been pinned into the map, the association to the images have not. Sounds confusing, or even impossible, how could the flags be displayed without linking to the image?
When it comes to updating the "Places" in other words the location "Place Tags" in PSE 12 it seems that these have to be placed manually. That is, you are required to place the images on a Map location to get that location recorded. So the data help in the EXIF file is ignored.
I'm very confused by how this system has been designed, I could even speculate that only part of the design has been coded, so they released what worked?
If there is somebody out there with a Camera with an internal GPS, I would like to know if the GPS data and location tagging is supported when images are imported.
PS: The online help is no help because it talks about features and even buttons that don't currently exist.

  • PSE 11 and ACR version

I run PSE 11 and ACR Ver. 7.4.
Also, have LR 4 and have yet upgraded to LR 5.
My question is this:  Adobe indicates Camera Raw 8.1 is available for PSE 11. I have been checking Help>Updates and am informed that this Camera Raw update (8.1) is not available. I keep getting the message that PSE 11 is up-to-date as checked (with Camera Raw 7.4).   Can somebody clarify this - is this update available for PSE 11 or is Adobe's statement incorrect?
Next question - what version of ACR includes the adjustment tools?  Is that part of 8.1?
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Yes, I know that Adobe has put some statement on at least one of their web pages that ACR 8.1 is available for PSE, but I don't think that's correct. I don't think ACR 8.1 will work in PSE until PSE12 is released ... but ... I don't really know for sure.
Next question - what version of ACR includes the adjustment tools?
What adjustment tools do you mean?
Some adjustment tools in ACR will NEVER work in PSE (for example, the adjustment brush and gradient filter, and probably the new Upright features as well)
