I'm no longer using iTunes.

I'm no longer using iTunes.  Designers and developers at Apple haven't figured out that progress doesn't always mean change.  And in this case the changes being made are just frustrating people and ******* them off.  The functionality of iTunes 10 was good enough, you are welcome to polish it all you want but keep the basic functionality the same.
Can people please recommend an alternative?  -D

I can speak to that.
I am running Windows 7 presently, have been fighting iTunes for maybe 6 years now. But never has it been as bad as iTunes 12.
This is not because I am computer illiterate, au contraire, my friend.
Just got a new iPhone 6 before Christmas. iTunes 12, latest OS on the iPhone 6. Also on my old 4s, which I backed up to iTunes in anticipation of restoring to my new iPhone 6. No way! Each time the "restore" would get to the apps, it would look like it was doing something, but...nothing. My new phone would still say Hello, Bonjour, etc. waiting for me to set it up. Very frustrating.
After about four tries with this, I called Apple support. They had me do the exact same thing about 6 MORE times! Each time it would get to the apps, it would crash. They sent me to "Senior" support. I spent FOUR hours on the phone with them that first day. NOT on hold, TALKING and WORKING! The tech was, in the end, stumped, and had me gather info from my computer to send to "the engineers at Apple". The next day, she called back for MORE info for "the engineers".
A couple of days later, she called back to say that it was a "known issue" and that they were "working on it". Keep iTunes updated and also the iOS on the phone. This was three weeks ago. Although she did give me her number and extension, there has been no change in the solution to my problem.
(An aside to say that my phone DOES work, but I had to create a new user on my PC and install a totally empty iTunes there. Backed up my old phone again, and restored from the NEW installation of iTunes. This is fine, but the library is basically empty, except for what I have added in the last three weeks. My original library has 500+ movies; I use it with Apple TV.)
Just a couple of hours ago, I decided to add some music to my iPad. (I suspected I might have a problem...but, nothing ventured, nothing gained.) I manually managed music, etc., as usual, and the sync proceeded. Got as far as the apps, and the whole thing crashed. I tried again. Same thing. So it is basically the same conflict between iTunes 12.whatever.whatever (latest version) and the latest version of ios8. Yet, they STILL do not know how to fix it!
They are very accommodating, and very nice, but they have not a clue as to what is wrong here.
Is the new iTunes more than superficially different from different releases?
I would say so.
I have had a PC for 20 years. I got my first iOS device perhaps 8 years ago. Since then, I had been amazed with the functionality of Apple devices...to the point where I was seriously considering dumping my old PC and switching to a MAC. Not anymore. Steve Jobs died. It took a couple of years, but Apple is now no better than Microsoft.
I just paid $700.00 for a phone, and they tell me they can't help me because they don't know the solution to my problem???
I am speechless!
Any questions?

  • Can no longer use itunes to put music on ipod touch?

I have an iPhone that I have no issues when using the itunes macch, BUT my iPod Touch I do not want to always have to connect to wi-fi to use music, on a run for instance, when there is n wi-fi available.  I want to use iTunes like before wheree I connected it to iTunes and picked which music I wanted synced with the iPod and then the music was on there.  Right now all I can do is see an option to download the music t my ipod when connected to a wi-fi network.  I am on sattelite internet so I cna not going to use all my download allowance for something I already downloaded and just need to transfer.
Basically what I want to do is transfer whatever I want from Itunes to my iPod touch and then turn on iCloud for the rest that isn't on the iPod, so if I AM in a wi-fi area I can listen if I want, but if i am not in a wi-fi area I astill have some music that is on my iPod itself.
Please help! So annoying!! I love apple, but they need directions for these issues.

Yes you can use the music, but you cannot use the iTunes program to do it.
    So:
Find the music files on your computer.
Make sure the audio format(s) are compatible.  MP3 is a definite yes, but the iTunes favorite AAC is a maybe, and you will have to check what your player can handle.
Then, follow your player's instructions to copy the music to the player.  For many players this means to just connect it and drag the file icons into it.

  • IPad updated to iOS 7.0.4 and I can no longer access iTunes

I updated iPad to iOS 7.0.4 and I can no longer use iTunes Store.  I tried accessing store from my music, same result.  I did reboot and reset, didn't resolve issue.

    Hey there Carol1401,
It sounds like you are unable to access the iTunes store using the app on your phone. Try closing the iTunes app, and then restart it one more time.

  • The computer I originally started using iTunes on a few years ago is no longer functional. How do I make the same library appear on my new computer with the newest iTunes?

The computer I originally started using iTunes on a few years ago is no longer usable, but for some reason some of the songs I have now are not showing up in my library on the new laptop I just bought. How do I consolidate the total songs on my iPhone to include them all in a new library on my iTunes in this new laptop? And why isn't this new laptop letting me update to ios 6 without deleting everything on my phone?

Your music will ONLY be where you put it.
It will not magically appear anywhere.
You buy one and only one download.  it is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your music.
You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • When I moved all my music stored in my Windows 7 user account under the My Music folder  to my PC's 'Public Music' folder, I could no longer add/delete music or movies to my iPhone using iTunes. How do I fix this?

I have been synching my iPhone with iTunes without problems for a long time.  I also used iTunes to add/change/delete Music & Videos on my iPhone with tuch contents from my iTunes Library.
One day, I decided to move all my Music stored on my laptop's Windows 7 User Account under "My Music" to the Windows 7 User "Public"  under "Public Music".  When I opened iTunes, all my music was gone so I just added the folder "Public Music" to my iTunes Library, iTunes did some work and all my music was then back, listed in my iTunes.
However, when I would synch my iPhone now, when I view the music or movie contents in my iPhone using iTunes, I can no longer ADD Music or Movies to my iPhone and I cannot delete music or movies in my iPhone using iTunes anymore.
How do I fix this?  Please help.

Try opening iTunes preferences. Then click on advanced tab. Then uncheck "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library." By default, iTunes copies music to its own media folder when you use iTunes to play the music.

  • HT1349 Apparently you can have 5 computers registered for iTunes.  I have 3 active computers but I guess I have other computers that are still activated that I no longer use.  Is there a way to delete or see what the others are?  Please help!

Apparently you can have 5 computers registered for iTunes.  I have 3 active computers but I guess I have other computers that are still activated that I no longer use and I no longer have as they crashed.  Is there a way to delete or see what the other computers are so that I can go in and delete them?  I've tried to email Apple directly but apparently I need my hardware # and obviously I do not have that # since I don't have the equipment any longer.  Any help is greatly appreicated.  I am trying to add another computer and it won't allow me to as they say I'm at my limit.  Please help!

    Sure.
Just open up iTunes on your computer -> Go to the iTunes Store -> Click your e- maill address (top right corner of the window) -> Type in your password for your Apple ID -> Under Computer Authorisations (underneath your Apple ID account balance and address) -> Press 'Deauthorise All'
-> This will deauthorise all computers and devices from your iTunes account -> you then need to re- authorise any computers/ devices you would like to use with your Apple ID for iTunes content -> to do this, select the Store tab along the menu at the top (where 'File', 'Edit', 'View' etc..... are) -> Then click 'Authorise this Computer' -> Type in your Apple ID -> Voila!
For any iOS devices (non- computers) you wish to re- authorise, these will automatically do so when you go to play iTunes content, download an app or anything like that on those devices!
    Hope this helps!

I am using itunes 10 and trying to consolidate my files.  I keep getting the error "Copying files failed.  The file name was invalid or too long".  How can I indentify what file is causing this problem or resolve this issue?

    BUMP
Yes, I just get that message. I don't see how I could investigate this problem.
I didn't mention that this happened when I was consolidating my library, not copying files to another computer.
In other words, I'm using a "normal" itunes procedure, itunes won't complete it, and won't tell me exactly why or how to figure out how to fix it...
Is there at least some easy way to tell which files were successfully copied to my itunes music folder so I can work on moving the uncopied files?
    Can anybody help me?

  • Ipod Nano 7th Generation is saying Use Itunes to Restore. Itunes no longer recognizes my device

Please Help, My Ipod nano 7th generation was syncing. When I disconnected from my computer, I no longer had any music on it. When I plugged it back in Itunes prompted me to restore my Ipod. I went ahead and restored it, but it kept asking me to restore. When I unplugged my ipod, I got a white screen saying Use Itunes to Restore. Problem is Itunes no longer picks up my device. I've tried plugging it into different USB ports, I've tried to update Itunes to the newest version, and uninstalled and reinstalled itunes. I've tried to reset the ipod, but it still goes back to the white screen saying "Use Itunes to Restore". I've been trying everything. Please Help.
    Thanks

No. You need iTunes on a computer to restore it.  If you don't have iTunes you can download it from here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you don't have a computer, can you can try to borrow one with iTunes installed.

  • I'm using iTunes Match now, can I no longer manage the music on my iPhone through a playlist on my computer in iTunes?

I used to pick and choose the music I wanted to take up the storage space on my iPhone through iTunes on my computer (note: not on my phone). Now that I use iTunes Match, the only way to delete songs seems to be to use my iPhone and swipe on whichever artists or songs I want to delete. Can I no longer use a playlist in iTunes to choose which music takes up the storage space? Let me know.. I still want to be able to play a song I haven't synched up to my phone through iTunes Match if I need to, though, so I don't want to just turn it off (plus I paid $25 for it...). Thanks!!

    A few things:
    1) By default, iTunes Match puts *nothing* on your iPhone. It just lists the songs that are in the cloud, and you can download them if you choose to. It seems like that's what you want, but you say you're not getting it. You don't have to delete everything you don't want. On the contrary: You have to download everything you do want. I'm confused.
Basically, my phone is already completely full (32GBs) of music and a few high def videos at the moment. I *want* about 24GBs of music on my phone right now. I *have* about 28 on there. It is nice to have that 24GBs of music on my phone because iTunes Match doesn't work perfectly - sometimes if I am driving, and I click play on a song I want to hear that isn't on my phone, it takes 20-40 seconds to start to play (with songs/mixes over 30 minutes, this can be several minutes). I want to keep a lot of songs on my phone, permanently, all the time, and choose songs to add to that permanent list as I choose/download them.
Maybe this will make it a little bit clearer, I realize this isn't the easiest thing to describe and I've had a few beers: I downloaded (by clicking play on my phone) songs I don't want to take up space on my phone. I clicked play on them, on my phone, while driving in my car. Heard that song once, now I don't want to hear it again for awhile, and I certainly don't want it taking up my precious space on my phone. Now imagine this situation times 100 or so.. that's 100 different songs (a few of them very long mixes) on my phone that I have to go in and manually delete by swiping. I want to do it from my computer.. it'd be way easier to find them and delete them.
Anyway, I think the answer is that there isn't a way to manage my music with iTunes Match enabled on my computer. No big deal, I guess, just suggesting there should be easier ways.
    2) You actually don't need iTunes Match to redownload a song that you forgot to sync over, as long as it's a song you purchased in iTunes. Anyone (match subscriber or not) can redownload iTunes-purchased music, tv shows, apps, and books right from the device in the iTunes app.
I have never downloaded a song from iTunes, so this doesn't apply.
    3) In your mind, what are the features of iTunes Match on the iPhone other than makin your entire library accessible for download from the cloud? As far as my logic takes me, if you want to manually control what's on it, you specifically don't want iTunes Match enabled, and I don't see any other reason you would want it enabled.
The only feature I am using iTunes Match for is to download music I haven't synced to my phone, onto my phone. I just want to be able to delete it later from my computer. I guess I want to be able to see the songs I have downloaded since the last sync so that I could easily delete those songs.. Yes, that would be a good solution.

    Hello Jean,
Based of what you have provided then I would say yes download iTunes from Apple’s website and also make sure that your version of Windows is up to date as well. Take a look at the article below to walk you through that plus some other steps necessary to get you back to using iTunes.

I used to able to access and listen to my itunes library on my ipad  using the remote app but this no longer works.  I am connected but sound thru ipad- just controls my library on iMac.  Is this because of they want us to use itunes match

That has nothing to do with iTunes match. The Remote app on iPad can control the computer's iTunes but not play content from iTunes on your iPad.
To play for example iTunes imusic on iPad
You need to have Home Sharing On.
Check Settings > Music > Home Sharing (key in your Apple ID & password here, must be the same on computer's iTunes)
Start iPad's Music app, tap the ... More (bottom right), tap Shared.
Choose your iTunes' library and have fun.
