I'm not able to connect from 9.2 client to 8.1.7.0 database through ODBC

Hi,
I'm trying to connect from ORACLE 9.2 client to 8.1.7 DATABASE. The client is on WINDOWS XP. But I'm getting connection timed out error message. What's wrong with that ?

Can you connect to the 8.1.7 database from other clients? Can you verify that the listner is up?
Can the 9.2 client connect to some database?
I'm guessing that the 8.1.7 database listner isn't up or that the tnsnames on your client isn't set up correctly.
Justin Hi Justin,
1) I am able to connect to 8.1.7 database from other clients.
2)The 9.2 client is able to connect to some other database on the network which is 8.1.6.2.
3) I have cut and pasted tnsnames.ora from the working client( but that client is 8i client ).
4) this is the first time I am using this kind of configuration i.e., trying to access 8.1.7 server from 9.2 client. I tried to create new connection through NET CONFIGURATION ASSISTANT as per the documentation but it's not working.

  • HT1595 I am not able to connect from my laptop to airplay mirroring equipment, icon is not showing on my laptop.

I am not able to connect from my laptop to airplay mirroring equipment, icon is not showing on my laptop. It does show when I hook up a HDMI wire to the apple TV box.

I think you mean Ethernet, not HDMI wire. If the airplay icon is showing up when wired then that would indicate an issue with your wifi network.

  • Apex link not able to connect from local machine.

    Hi,
    Here is the scenario.
I have installed oracle apex 3.2 in my vmware linux machine.
I'm able to connect the link (http://b03apex.domain.com) from my linux(vmware) box but I'm not able to connect from windows local machine.
I tried to ping the ip, from both the ends are working but not sure why I'm not able to connect from windows local machine.
    local windows ip: 192.168.1.2
vmware Linux ip address : 192.168.1.3
Do I need to do add any parameters in the Apache logs to connect from windows local machine.?
    Need your suggestion.
    Thanks, Muhammed.

Can you ping the VM hostname from your Windows console (instead of IP address)?
Have you tried in your Windows browser the following URL (using IP address of the VM instead of the hostname)?
    http://192.168.1.3/
Have you checked that your browser is not configured to use a proxy server?
Have you checked your Windows firewall for allowing tcp web traffic to the virtual machine?
Have you checked for the same on on the virtual machine (firewall will be likely be done using <i>iptables</i>).

Since tnsping did NOT return an error, we know that you did not tnsping 'orcl', which is what you tried to connect to with sqlplus.  Show us the actual tnsping command.

  • Mystery as to why we're not able to connect from...

    Scenario:
Windows 7 laptop in a Windows Domain environment is attempting a straight RDP session to a non-Domain Windows server 2008 R2. Laptop (System A) gets rejected every time using correct local Administrator account and verified correct password on non-Domain
    Windows 2008 R2 server (System B)
Any ideas or scenarios that may cause this kind of behavior (other than bad password which has been totally eliminated as a variable)???
    Facts:
I can remotely log in to (System B) using LogMeIn and the Administrator account and password referenced above. I can also log in to (System B) from another non-Domain (System C) server using same credentials as above, without any problems. (System B) has
NO GPO's applied (verified by GPRESULTS) but I cannot speak to (System A). Owner of (System A won't help out anymore so I need some possible ideas or things that
may cause this kind of behavior)

    Hi,
As a workaround please add the following line to the .rdp file (using Notepad) that the user double-clicks to connect to the server:
    enablecredsspsupport:i:0
If they do not have a .rdp file for this server they can create one easily by entering the name, configuring settings, etc., in the Remote Desktop Client and then clicking the Save As button.
After making the above change please have them verify that they are able to connect.  If the change was performed correctly they should get the server logon screen instead of the frontside authentication prompt.
    Thanks.

Ensure your listener is properly configured and started. Check the listener's address and verify you can tnsping it with the tnsping command:
    tnsping orcl
On the other side, make sure your tnsnames.ora file on the client side has properly configured the address where the listener is located.

    BUTTONS:

When i connect using http://localhost/reportserver I am getting below error
The permissions granted to user '' are insufficient for performing this operation.
    Though i am the administrator
And when i connect using below URL http://localhost/reports
I get Unable to connect to the remote server
Please suggest your input on the problem

    Hi Khushi N,
According to your description, you are administrator, when you tried to connect reporting services from SSMS, the error message occurred. When you tried to access report manager with the URL:
http://localhost/reportserver, you were prompted that the permissions granted to user '' are insufficient for performing this operation.
The Reporting Services error rsAccessedDenied occurs when a user does not have permission to perform an action. To troubleshooting this issue, please make sure that you have sufficient permission and the report server name is correct. You can use the reportserver
URL, e.g. HTTP ://<servername>/ReportServer, to log on the reporting service in SSMS.
In addition, by default, we could not access all of the report server properties available in SQL Server Management Studio unless we start Management Studio with administrative privileges. To configure Reporting Services role properties and role assignments
so you do not need to start Management Studio with elevated permissions each time, please refer to the following document:
From the Start menu, click All Programs, click SQL Server 2012, right-click Management Studio, and then click Run as administrator.
Connect to your local Reporting Services server.
In the Security node, click System Roles.
Right-click System Administrator and then click Properties.
In the System Role Properties page, select View report server properties. Select any other properties you want associated with members of the system administrators role.
    Click OK.
    Close Management Studio
The issue may be caused by the UAC or Internet Explorer security setting, please try to follow this steps:
    1. Open the Internet options of the IE and add the report server URL into trusted site in the Security tab.
    2. Run the IE as administrator.
For more information about Configuring a Native Mode Report Server for Local Administration, please refer to the following document:

  • Secondary domain controller not able to connect from work stations.

We are using primary and secondary domain controllers. In which the secondary domain controller act as a replication server. actually the problem occurs while accessing the secondary domain controller from work stations I get the following error:
"The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed".
Any one please give as a solution.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Most simple resolution would be unjoin/disjoin the computer from the domain and rejoin the computer account back to the domain.
There might be multiple reasons for this kind of behavior.
Here are a few of them:
Single SID has been assigned to multiple computers.
If the Secure Channel is Broken between Domain controller and workstations
If there are no SPN or DNS Host Name mentioned in the computer account attributes
    Outdated NIC Drivers.
According your description, the second one may be the cause of your problem.
When a Computer account is joined to the domain, Secure Channel password is stored with computer account in domain controller. By default this password will change every 30 days (This is an automatic process, no manual intervention is required).
Upon starting the computer, Netlogon attempts to discover a DC for the domain in which its machine account exists. After locating the appropriate DC, the machine account password from the workstation is authenticated against the password on the DC.
If there are problems with system time, DNS configuration or other settings, secure channel’s password between Workstation and DCs may not synchronize with each other.
A common cause of broken secure channel [machine account password] is that the secure channel password held by the domain member does not match that held by the AD. Often, this is caused by performing a Windows System Restore (or reverting
to previous backup or snapshot) on the member machine, causing an old (previous) machine account password to be presented to the AD.
Follow below link which explains typical symptoms when Secure channel broken,
Typical Symptoms when secure channel is broken

    Hi Anju,
    please re-read what I wrote.
I didn't ask you to run
    x_ping -n -d
    but instead
    x_ping -n <hostname of database server> -d <DBSID>
You've to fill in the correct values for
    <hostname of database server>
    and
    <DBSID>

  • Oracle database not able to connect in network

    Hi all,
I have one problem.I have created a new database in Oracle 9i.This database I am trying to connect as system user, with a password.I am able to connect the darabase
locally, but I am not able to connect to this database in network.Lan connection and everything is oK.Its giving error as
An error occurred while establishing the connection:
    Type: java.sql.SQLException Error Code: 17002
    Message:
Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
can anyone help me out in this issue?
    thanks and regards
    Dhanesh

You are attempting to connect to an Oracle instance using JDBC and you are receiving the following error.
    java.sql.SQLException: Io exception:
The Network Adapter could not establish connection
SQLException: SQLState (null) vendor code (17002)
Any or all of the following conditions may also apply:
    1) You are able to establish a SQL*Plus connection from the same
client to the same Oracle instance.
    2) You are able to establish a JDBC OCI connection, but not a Thin
connection from the same client to the same Oracle instance.
    3) The same JDBC application is able to connect from a different
client to the same Oracle instance.
    4) The same behavior applies whether the initial JDBC connection
string specifies a hostname or an IP address.
    Also
The Network Adapter exception is caused because:
    1. The database host name or port number is wrong.
    2. The database TNSListener has not been started. The TNSListener may be started with the lsnrctl utility.
Please let us know where is the actual problem , then we can help you out.

  • How do I connect to Time Capsule from a Windows 8.1 machine which is on a Windows domain. I have been able to connect from a Windows 7 machine on a Windows domain to a Time Capsule. Airport utility is not displaying the Time Capsule Win8.1 machine

How do I connect to Time Capsule from a Windows 8.1 machine which is on a Windows domain. I have been able to connect from a Windows 7 machine on a Windows domain to a Time Capsule. Airport utility is not displaying the Time Capsule Win8.1 machine.
I have checked that the firmware has been updated to 7.6.4 . Similalrly the Win8.1 machine has been loaded with the update specified in another discussion.

Firstly how are you connecting to the TC.. wireless or ethernet?
Please open a command window and ping it.. ping by name and by IP address.
If ping succeeds at least by IP it should work.
    In windows explorer type
\\10.0.1.1 (or whatever the TC ip is.. that is the default).
Having the airport utility for windows loaded can help the process. As it loads bonjour for windows.
7.6.4 firmware on the TC is useless. It works better on 7.6.1
If the ping does not succeed by either name or IP address yet you have internet through the TC, then your network is setup wrongly. You are have firewalls blocking local IP. Take down all the firewalls.

This error means that the hostname or IP address used in the TNS connection string, failed to resolve or connect.
Your client is making two connections. The first connection is to the SCAN listener. It matches a db instance for your connection request based on service requested, available registered service handlers, load balancing, and so on. It then send a redirect to your client informing it of the handler for that service.
Your client then does a second connection to this service (a local RAC listener that will provide you with a connection to the local RAC instance). This is what seems to be failing in your case.
The SCAN listener's redirect uses the hostname of the server that the local listener is running on. Your client needs to resolve that hostname (of a RAC node) to an IP address. This likely fails.
You can add the RAC node hostnames to your client platforms hosts file. The appropriate action however would be to ensure that DNS is used for name resolution instead.
