I'm not able to sync my Iphone 4. It doesn't show up as a device in iTunes.

I'm in need of help getting my IPhone 4 to sync with my pc. I have downloaded the latest update for iTunes. When I connect my IPhone using the USB cord, it is not recognized in iTunes. There is no "devices" tab on the left and I don't see any options for syncing. Can someone please help?

Is this a brand new phone? If it is, which iTunes version does it say it requires (see side of box)?
With a Mac running 10.5.8 you can install the last version of iTunes 10.6

An older iPhone 4S should work with the above but if it is a brand new one I don't know. If the box says it requires iTunes 10.7 then you will have to upgrade to OSX 10.6.8 at least in order to run iTunes 10.7. You provide no information about your computer hardware so I can't tell you if this is even possible.
1) Make sure your computer meets Snow Leopard technical specifications - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575 This mostly means making sure it is an Intel Mac and has at least 1GB RAM (more is recommended). To check RAM, go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac". Now continue to "More Info...". It should say you have at least 1GB of "memory".
2) Apple no longer carries 10.6 in its stores or online. Telephone Apple to purchase a Snow Leopard disc. In the USA: (800) 676-2775 (contact information for other countries: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57)
Alternatively you can buy from online retailers but anticipate paying much more than the original price which is the price still charged by Apple
3) Backing up your computer before upgrading is always a good idea.
4) After installing from the DVD, update your Snow Leopard installation using Software Update or manually downloading and installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v.1.1 - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399

Remove the song in question from the sync list and see if the rectifies the problem.
If it does, then iTunes believes the song no longer exists on your drive and that will need to be corrected.

My iPhone doesn't show up as a Device in iTunes via wi-fi.

How come I can't sync by wi-fi? My iPhone doesn't show up as a Device in iTunes unless it's connected by USB cable. "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi" is checked in iTunes. (I can sync ONLY by USB cable--ironic because I won't upgrade to Mavericks until it allows USB local syncing.) What am I missing?

Is your iPhone plugged in to a charger? I believe that is a requirement for WiFi sync.

Maybe you're referring to the fact that iCloud is the sync mechanism for Contacts and Calendars now. If not, I don't understand your comment.

I have a current (extensive) itunes library established years ago with an ipod classic. My email address, etc. has changed many times since then and I am not able to sync my music from my itunes to my iphone 5c. I'm sure it's due to a different email address/apple ID. How can I get them to sync so as not to have to re-purchase all of my music and podcasts?

The extensive itunes libary that was on an ipod classic likely as not came from an itunes library. The music that is on the itunes library will sync to an iphone once the iphone has been authorized through the itunes store. If it is as you say that all this music came from an 'itunes library' then there should not be an issue syncing this music to an alternate device.
If on the other hand this music came from multiple itunes libraries. It will then be a matter of logging in with each apple id login which was used when purchasing the songs to then re-downloading the songs to that specific apple id login. Once you have purchase music from the itunes store using an apple id login the music then follows the apple id virtually indefinately.

Changed genre of AAC file not able to sync to iphone anymore

recently I changes some files in iTunes that I bought at the iTunes store some time ago, to better fit into the different genre's in my music library.
Since then iTunes is no longer able to sync these to my iPhone and has the error: "Those files are not able to be played on the iPhone".
What went wrong?
I have just changed the genre nothing else.
Any idea?

Update: I changed the genre back to "gesprochene Inhalte" "spoken contets". And it is able to sync it again. My suggestion is, that the other genre was "Hörspiel" wich actually fits a lot better cause the trouble thru the "Umlaut" "ö".

i am having problem in syncing my iphone to itunes,at first the auto sync process starts as i connect my iphone5(ios 7) to my itunes(latest version).it says"the iphone could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorised for the purchases items that are on the iphone (authorise this computer from store> authorise thi computer)."
when i authorise my computer is says " this computer is already authorised". when i again try to sync my phone it gives me the same error..

I found the solution to this problem
the apple service helped me actually
the best and the esiest way is to solve this problem :
create a new account (as an administator recomended)
Bonjour servises must be enabled ( go to control panel > administartive tools> sevices> Bounjour services (change the category to large icons if you dont see administartive tools )
install itunes
sign in
authorize
SYNC
it must sync normally
but if the meesage pops up that points on a particular items that could not be synced ( to ur itunes because you are not authorized for this items ) REMOVE THEM
creating a new user account shows the items wich dont let you sync your iPhone
after you REMOVE those **** items that were not authorised , you can go to your old user account and SYNC it as old kind time
was having this problem 2 weeks , and nothing helped except this was. not deleting the SC Info folder, now copying apple folder to some other mobile divce folder
REMEMBER the problem is in your iPhone , it is about the items that are in your iPhone

After several steps (Initializing Sync..Preparing syng etc)an error message "impossible to sync your Iphone because session isn't correctly ended". I restored Iphone twice, changed usb but nothing's happened..
Someone knows how to make it work again?

The iPhone4 shows the songs are not supported and on the Windows Machine the songs do not play completely. Can anyone advice what could have gone wrong ? Because rest of the devices are synced to MacBook and they are able to sync the content normally. I have even subscribed to iTunes Match but the problem is still not fixed.

Devices refer to iDevices... iPod... iPhone... iPad. .. Not Computers.
Authoriation applies ONLY to Computers... of which there is a Limit of 5 per Apple ID.
If the issue is with iTunes on your Windows Computer... Perhaps you need to Re-install iTunes...
