I'm not allowed access to my own files...

Hello all,
Just talked to an Adobe person on the Chat, but he couldn't help me, he told me to get someone on the phone... on the phone, they told me they couldn't help me because my product was too old... they told me to come here and ask for help... now I just hope you guys aren't going to tell me you can't help me, because of some other sort of reason!
Here's my problem:
For a few years now, I use a CS2 for work, both on my office-computer and on my home computer.
Ever since I installed it, on one of the computers the updates of Adobe Acrobat keep popping up, but only get halfway. They start installing, announcing themselves: “Adobe is now installing Acrobat 7.1…” and suddenly, it stops and says: “Windows finds it impossible
to write onto the file  C:\Program files\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\Activex\AcroIEhelper.dll.  Check if you have access to this file”.
It gives me the choice between “resume, ignore, or abort”.  If I choose resume or ignore, the installation goes on till the end and I am asked to reboot. As if everything has gone well.
But it hasn’t.  For when I do, after the computer’s started up again, instead of having an updated Acrobat, the update starts all over again:
“now installing Acrobat 7.1…” until the reboot, the same way again, and so ad infitum.
After a few times, I actually went checking in my computer for this location, to see what was wrong with this file on which Windows seemed to have so much trouble “writing onto”. I searched for the file called AcroIEhelper.dll, but found it wasn’t there…  No wonder they couldn’t write anything on it, I thought!
I copied the file from my disk in the CS-box, and placed it exactly on the location it was supposed to be; at least, that’s what I tried to do,
but soon as I did, a box appeared saying: “You are not allowed to execute this transaction”    (or something of the sort – I’m translating from
Dutch here).  No matter howmany times I try, it always stops me, blocking my access.
It never says why, however.
So, the update is never really finished, I know that now, it's for lack of this blasted file. But I'm never allowed to put it where it belongs.
Ever since, each day when switching on my computer, the first thing I have to do is to stop this Adobe Acrobat update, which
stubbornly -and uselessly- starts installing, before I can start working.  Every single day, and I am sick of it!
The computer it happens on is the second one I installed the CS on, it's a Vista.  I don't think that's the problem, though.  Would it?
I was assured I could install my CS on 3 systems, this was the second. The one in my office is an XP Pro.
Anybody can give me the answer to the refusal of this file? Why am I not allowed access to the files in my own computer?  And is there a
way to MAKE the thing give me access?
Tanks for any help...

Thanks, Markerline. I couldn't reply this weekend, since I had omitted to send my login-password on this forum to my home-computer.  It's at home I'm having the problem: over here at work, nothing bothers asking me if I want to be updated.  (I don't even know whether I'm getting updated at all; I'm not allowed to experiment much whith this one, since I'm in the National network...
I think I've tried it most of the times from an ampty desktop. Nothing to do with Adobe nor anything else working yet.  After all, the update is the first thing that pops up after startup; I have to abort it before I can start doing anything.
I'll try it again, after reading the articles you write about. I might find the answer if I learn more of what this IEhelperthingy is all about.  It's really small, a few 5 MB or so; but it seems to be important enough to cause trouble.
If I never manage to force-squeeze it into the Adobe file, my only hope is to get rid of these eternal useless attempts to update to Acrobat 7.1.  I'd be happy to go on working with number 6 or whatever I have right now, as long as I'm not constantly pestered by a never-ending update.
My old computer never told me I wasn't allowed to do what I wanted to it, the way this one does. I find it annoying! It makes me feel like it takes me for a fool....

I started using Story a few months ago.  While writing a script (very proud of it's potential) I was past page 20 I believe, to my own demise I only backed it up around page 9 using a word document.  My Hard Drive died and had to be replaced.  While trying to save all my files before I took it to the apple store I went to grab my adobe story file and couldnt.  So, I tried to log in and got this "Sorry, your Story Free subscription does not allow access to this application. Please upgrade your subscription."  I went to the online-version and my story was not there.  Thus, I am very angry that I lost my script because out of the blue my subscription no longer allowed me to use Adobe Story on my Macbook Pro.
Nevertheless, I have been unsuccessfully trying to re-open Adobe Story on my newly restored HD and I still get the same message.
If you could help me with what needs to be done, that would be swell.
    Thanks.

Yup I was working on my script on Adobe Story, without problems, I was
unable to retrieve the file to save it.  My Hard Drive has since been
erased and now I am working on a new HD.
I did re-install CS6.  All my other Adobe programs work.  The online
version of Story seems to work but every time I sign in using my Adobe ID
it gives me that message. :/  The thing is I never had a subscription so im
quite confused why it's telling me my subscription no longer allows me to
use Story without upgrading and spending oodles of money.
    Thanks!

    Java has updated again today,
i use a java plug in to run my virtual software to access my work from home,
today i have an error message saying that security will not allow access to my website
i use to log in to work from, this is a JREdetection error,
my system runs off java and citrix, i tried chrome, firefox and safari - same issue, if my system cannot detect java it wont run, it runs on plug ins.
How to i change my sec settings to allow access to this website, as i can only see that i can add apps not web addresses?

If you get an error that says can't backup, try moving the existing backup file to a safe location and thry again. again. You can find the location of the backup file here:

  • Java daemon on boot: "This user is not allowed access to the window system right now."

The daemon is located in /Library/LaunchDaemons/ and launches successfully on most occasions. However, it sometimes fails to start with this error:
Nov 17 20:36:24 server.local java[28972]: This user is not allowed access to the window system right now.
Nov 17 20:36:24 server com.apple.launchd[1] (net.java.server): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
I have the server command running as a background daemon using its "nogui" option (the developers claim to have written it to not display a gui). However, it seems that somewhere along the line, Java is trying to display something. As the daemon is running before users log in, it gives this error. Once a user is logged in to the system, it runs fine; however, logging in a user to run the server is not an option. It needs to run on boot.
Any ideas for how to solve this? I'm going to contact the developers to see if it may be something they can fix, but I want to be able to force the issue in case the problem ever occurs in the future.

Irrespective of any claims by the developer, this certainly appears to be a test case that shows that the tool is not working as expected, and that the application has a bug.  This test case would be better if there was some evidence around why only some of the startups fail, but in general this will involve what's been suggested earlier:  "Contact the application developer."
As some general background on what's involved, see daemons and agents and related; processes that are not allowed to connect to the GUI for reasons of security.
I'd also suggest testing your DNS, as seeing "server.local" can imply local DNS configuration errors.   Launch Terminal.app  from Applications > Utilities and issue the following harmless diagnostic command and see if it reports no changes, or if it detects network or DNS errors:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
If this is OS X Server and a NAT'd network, you do not want to reference any DNS servers located off of your NAT'd network.
Why DNS?  Because DNS errors can cause only some operations to fail, particularly if there's more than one DNS server selected (and where some subset of the DNS servers are malfunctioning or misconfigured).

  • Firefox with GoogleDocs, "Your browser does not allow access to your computer's clipboard." Solution?

This question was asked two months ago and never solved, so I thought I'd bring it up again, as it's new to me and perhaps Firefox has changed since then. I know it's Google, but as it pokes at Firefox, thought I'd take a shot. This is the previous question:
    [[https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/867479?s=firefox+access+to+clipboard&r=3&as=s|Previous question]]
Basically, when using GoogleDocs with a right-click cut/copy and paste, it doesn't function. I get the error message above: "Your browser does not allow access to your computer's clipboard." It's as simply broken as that. I recently had an issue in Firefox with the clipboard that required a system restore to solve, so that may be related.
I have done three different virus/malware scans on my computer, and everything comes back clean. Which it should be, as I'm a very careful user.

Yes, that was the first thing that I tried. I really couldn't get it to do... anything useful at all. So I'm guessing it's somehow different in detail, though the question is the same; Firefox vs. the Windows clipboard. It's difficult of course, when working with Google, to figure out where Firefox's code issues end and Google's overblown invasive code begins.
At any rate, no, that extension did not help. But thank you for the suggestion.
I'm sure that there's a solution out there somewhere....

Illustrator CC - Tools not allowing access to drop-down options

Can anyone help me out on this? I running a very new PC and Illustrator CC (latest copy).

    BK,
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • [Solved]gnome-system-tools You are not allowed access to sys config

I did a FTP install of i686 Arch Linux on a friend's machine.  I could not get gnome-system-tools to work, keep getting:
The configuration could not be loaded
You are not allowed access to the system configuration
So, I tried gnome-system-tools on an i686 Arch install on my machine, and gnome-system-tools worked.  Then I did a pacman -Syu  and fully updated the system.  The updates included udev which now prints how long udev events took on boot up.  After the updates, gnome-system-tools no longer works.  Same symptoms as the new install.
Both machines have stbd in the /etc/rc.conf DAEMONS line.  Both the user and root in both machines are part of the stb-admin group.  Using gksu or launching as root in a terminal window results in the same problem.  The problem seems to be in system-tools-backends which works in conjuntion with dbus as I get this error:
(time-admin:7607): Liboobs-WARNING **: There was an unknown error communicating with the backends:
Process /usr/share/system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/SystemToolsBackends.pl exited with status 127
gnome-system-tools and system-tools-backends are part of the community group, so as far as I know, writing a bug report is out.  Both gnome-system-tools and system-tools-backends are out of date in community.  system-tools-backends is version 2.4.1 and the current version is 2.6.0.  I tried using makepkg to compile the new 2.6.0 version of system-tools-backends but it fails saying it needs dbus >= 1.1.2 but version of dbus is 1.0.2.  So it appears that dbus is out of date also.  That is a far as I got.
I know this has been a problem in the past, but I got it working until this latest update.
Anyone got any ideas on this?

When I entered the Original Post, I had rebuilt gnome-system-tools as this had fixed the problem the last time.  When I went to rebuild system-tools-backends, I had decided I needed to try and build the latest version of it, which didn't work as stated above.  By this time the lateness of the hour, and the current frustration level caused me to quit for the night and write this thread.  I am fairly sure I did NOT rebuild the current system-tools-backends.
Anyway, deleting gnome-system-tools and system-tools-backends, then rebuilding the current version of both gnome-system-tools and system-tools-backends fixed the problem.   Be sure to follow the post installation comments from system-tools-backends.

I've had the same problem with my users-admin and users-time... I've tried all the fixes from most of these posts... except for that string of code that someone wrote in this post: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=42910
    for file in `pacman -Ql gnome-system-tools | grep desktop | cut -d" " -f2`; do cat $file | sudo sed 's/\(^Exec=\)\(.*-admin\)/\1gksudo \2/g' | sudo tee temp.desktop.tmp; sudo mv temp.desktop.tmp $file; done
I wasn't sure what this string actually would do, so I haven't tried it yet. I figured there would be an easier way of fixing this problem. Like a simple edit in the SystemToolsBackends.pl file.....
    any help would be cool.

The problem is absolutely not Reader. The problem is that FireFox has stepped in front of Reader and handles all the PDF stuff - wrongly in your case. FireFox is DESIGNED to take over PDF files. But it is not capable of doing IRS forms!
To start with go back to IE for these forms. When you save them to disk DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK ON THEM until this is fixed. Just open the in the normal way - start Adobe Reader and use Open from the File menu.

  • Server 2012 and 2012 R2 do not allow access to all 7 optical SAS drives?

The following problem occurs with Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012 and 2012 R2, Datacenter or Standard.
I have an external SAS enclosure with seven optical drives and one hot-swap SAS/SATA bay that connects using two SFF-8088 connectors (no internal SAS expander, etc.).  The purpose is to use the seven bluray writers to write multiple copies of a large
database simultaneously.  The optical drives are also occasionally used to read datasets that come on multiple discs (usually 8-12 per dataset and up to 15 datasets at a time).  Because of the volume, more optical drives are definitely better.
Regardless of the type of SAS controller used to connect this enclosure, some significant functionality is always missing.
For writing, it is best to connect directly to the optical drives (which do their own buffering) so a HBA would seem better than a hardware RAID controller.  I have tried several HBAs, including LSI-9211, LSI-9240-IT, Dell H310-IT.  In all cases,
Windows only sees four DVD drives and the hot-swap bay.  The drives Windows sees work perfectly for reading and writing.  MegaRAID Storage Manager (LSI controller software) sees all seven optical drives and the hot-swap bay.  LSI says this
must be a Windows problem.  Strangely, if I remove (any) three optical drives and replace them with hot-swap bays, all eight devices are recognized by Windows.
If I use a true RAID controller (tried LSI-9260, Dell H800, Dell H810, HP 812P, IBM 5015), windows and MSM see all seven drives and the hot-swap bay, reads from the optical drives are fine, but writing large discs times out (presumably because of buffering
by the RAID card) so I can't write DVDs.
Is there a way to get Server to recognize all seven optical drives on an HBA?  Ideally, I'd like to add several of these enclosures but I can't even get one working properly!
The system is a Tyan (Dell) MB with dual Xeon E5-2620s and 64Gb RDIMM.  Currently includes LSI-9260 (2Tb SAS 10k in RAID 0), Dell H810 (32Tb SAS in RAID 6), and LSI-9211 (optical enclosure + 3Tb hot-swap).  Just installed Server 2012 R2 Datacenter
    for testing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had the experience of working as a validation engineer for Intel, who at the time was developing a SAS/SATA storage controller chipset for thier new xeon processors. The chipset was included in their motherboard offerings. I validated the linux driver,
which is now included in the linux kernel as of the 3.x series kernel.
My first question is, what type of SAS enclosure are you using for your optical drives/hot swap bay? You will be surprised at how many enclosures don't actually provide a 100% direct-attached storage configuration, and instead opt to work as a mini expander
instead. In our validation, we tested several SAS enclosures, and we found several that even though they were advertised as direct-attached enclosures, by inspecting the data transmission with a SAS protocol analyzer we found communication over SMP (Serial
    Management Protocol).
To ensure it is NOT the enclosure causing the anomaly, i'd connect the 7 optical drives directly to each storage controller unit (or sff-8087). These cards can support around 256 devices via expander attached configuration, as that is how many sas addresses
the scu's can support. Either way, they can only support a maximum of 8 devices direct-attached (4 per SCU). I would use a multi-line SFF-8087 SATA breakout cable to directly connect your optical drives to the HBA, 4 on SCU0 and the other 3 on SCU1.
I find it strange that LSI's storage manager can see all of the drives, but windows cannot. Since the SAS protocol allows for the ATAPI cmd set to be sent via scsi commands, the only thing I can think of is if windows can only recognize a certain amount
of SAS-addresses utilizing the ATAPI cmd set. Technically, it should only be limited by the number of devices the hba can support, and in either LSI thats 256. Otherwise the enclosure may be doing something funny with the initiator (SCU), where one initiator
may take precedence over the other. Again, testing a direct connection with a SFF-8087 SATA breakout cable will eliminate the enclosure as a factor.
I can understand from a developer perspective for the desire to have windows recognize the devices instead of relying on the lsi storage app. Firstly, that app is monstrous and unwieldy. Secondly, it does not allow for customized solutions/scripting to fully
access the optical devices, since you have to interact w/ lsi's storage mgr. 3rd, this should simply work if MS is fully compliant with the SAS protocol.
Finally, I want to make sure everyone is aware that a fully compliant 6G SAS compliant device will support SSP (Serial SCSI protocol), SMP (Serial Management Protocol), and STP (Sata Tunneling Protocol). STP basically defines how SATA devices can inter-operate
within the sas fabric by tunneling ATA commands via the SCSI cmd set. This is a basic functionality guaranteed within the overall SAS protocol; if your HBA supports SAS & SATA, it will support SSP, SMP, and STP frames (this is usually always listed on
the HBA), and therefore it will fully support SATA devices. A SAS device will support SSP & SMP. A SATA-only HBA will support the ATA cmd set only (and thus, cannot inter-operate within a SAS fabric).
Please note that at the very least, a direct-attached configuration should provide the number of Storage Controller Units x 4 fully working SATA devices (generally each internal SFF-8087 is a scu, most HBA's have a min of 2 SCU's, and 4 directly addressable
devices per SCU (8 direct attached devices total). Generally, any issues that will arise from SATA devices will be the result of expander-attached configurations. There are many points a SATA device can experience errors in a expander-attached configuration,
from the routing mechanism being utilized (table vs subtractive), to the type of expander being used (fan-out vs edge expander). Expanders will generally at least support 1 method of routing, if not both, and may or may not support multi-level configurations
(this is specifically dependent on the hba). It was not uncommon in our testing to come across expanders that would work great w/ SAS & SATA w/ 1 level expander, but fail to communicate with SATA devices past 2 or more levels. This falls on the responsibility
of the HBA, specifically the driver for the OS.

  • IP Address Added But still does not allow access

I have a laptop that I take around Australia. When I'm in a hotel I link to the interest via my mobile phone using its hotspot feature. This allows me to gain access to the internet with no problem.
When I go to the allowed ip addresses section of Azure for my SQL Database the IP address in todays case shows me 101.173.255.250.
I click on the "Add to allowed IP addresses" and everything looks good.
I then go back to my Visual Studio project which creats a connection to the same database and I'm told that I can not connect and its because my IP address is not registered.
To check my IP address I go to http://checkip.dyndns.org/ and that site also tells me that my IP address is 101.173.255.250.
Can any one tell me what I'm doing wrong. Should not the IP address in the "allowed ip addresses" be correct and once registered gain me access.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. Been researching this issue off and on for the past month.

Thanks for the steps. I have followed them and also deleted all firewall rules at the database level as well.
Once I had complete removing all rules, I add the IP address as in step 3 of your reply.
I then went to Visual Studio and clicked on the Tools>Connect to Database menu option. I received the following message: Cannot open server 'ir7oj6f24g' requested by the login. Client IP address '1.154.162.224' is not allowed to access the server...tracking
    ID '91af1717-9066-43b3-b69f-2db393a24a25'
In the Management Portal the IP address that said that it was my IP address was 101.172.127.226 which I added in step 3.
The thing that does not make any sense is that I was able to gain access to the Management Portal for this database and execute queries against this database. I'm confused.

  • "There are no shares available or you are not allowed access them..."

I'm admittedly a bit rusty, last time I set up a Mac OS server was 10.4. I'm having a huge problem setting up basic file sharing and it's driving me nuts!
For testing and trouble shooting I've set up a single share, a single user and added that user to a single group. I enabled all services for the user. I then set the POSIX permissions on the share to read and write for the user and the group. I also tried additional ACL permissions to full control. No matter what I do I still get "There are no shares available or you are not allowed to access them on the server". I can log on any admin account with no problems, but I can't get standard accounts to connect! I've tried stopping and starting AFP service with no change. I've re-read all the AFP and permissions sections of the admin guides and the server essentials book. From what I can tell this should all be working. What am I missing?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Jason
    +"What am I missing?"+
SACLs perhaps? What are SACLs? Service Access Control Lists. Where are they? Server Admin > Server Name > Settings > Access. After installation 10.6 Server (by default) toggles Access for all users to the more limited setting below it.
