I'm not expert with input midi channels...

Hello, you can see my system. I add thet I've got two
keyboards a M-Audio Key pro 88 and an Edirol PCR-30.
I would like to do the simplest thing on earth. I've
read on the Reference manual but I couldn't get out:
how can I use the two keyboards on two different midi
channel to play in concert two different audio
instrument on different tracks? I've tried to change
the midi channel and the port in Instrument object's
parameter box but this didn't work (as I've seen on
the manual these parameters works on midi outputs and
not on midi inputs). Someone can help
me?

They work for input also i.e.
Kbd 1, set to transmit on midi channel 1 and assign the ES2 to receive on midi channel 1 in the Object parameter box.
Kbd 2, set to transmit on midi channel 2 and assign the EVP88 to receive on midi channel 2 in the Object parameter box.
Then shift select both in the track list.

Sustain pedal not working with my MIDI setup

So, I'm using a Yamaha P-140 hooked up with my Macbook Pro using a Midi-USD cable. I'm mostly using it for Logic Pro X and Sibelius, and it works just fine. However when I use the sustain pedal, it's playing an E3 note and it's messing up all the sound adding a lot of reverb.
Now, this isn't a problem when I'm using the piano as it is. It's also not a problem with either Logic or Sibelius, cause when I'm testing it with the "Sound and MIDI Setup" app on Mac, the sustain pedal is recognized as one of the "hammers" on the keyboard.
I have no idea as how to fix this problem, and it's really annoying having to play super legato when I'm recording.

Note: The keyboard have an "AUX Pedal" input and a "Sustain pedal" input.

Now, I've seen the event-recording in Logic for when I use the pedal, and it's picking up 2 different signals. The first one is a "Controller" (as it say under "status") with the info "Sustain", the next 2 have the status "Note" each one triggering an E3.
I looked it up and the pedal is a Yamaha FC3 half damper sustain pedal. I'm not an expert when it come to pedals, but I believe a half damper is a pedal with multiple trigger points? Giving you different amounts of sustain depending on how much you're "pressing it".
(Position 2 1 1 19 = pedal release)

Try deleting Logic's preferences... sounds like a control surface issue.
Delete the Logic 10 preferences file AND the shared control surfaces file.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this.
If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro.
then delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
Note: Delete both files, they will be rebuilt the next time Logic runs.

Multiple midi channels in one region

I've been using Logic since version 4.7, but haven't tried the following in a version newer than 5.5.1. Not sure what functionality might have changed, so here goes...
I'm having issues with having notes with different midi channel assignments in a single region. I have 3 audio instrumets on midi channel one, two, and three, respectively. I have a midi instrument whose midi channel is set to all, that is patched to all three audio instruments in the environment. The track containing my region is playing back on the midi instrument, not the individual audio instruments. I have assigned channels 1, 2, and 3 to individual notes in the region, yet when it plays, all 3 audio instruments are triggered for every note rather than only the instrument whose midi channel matches the note's channel.

Thanks for the responses! The issue is that the three audio instrument objects in the environment are not respecting it's assigned midi channel. Yes, the channel splitter will split the incoming midi channel, but I shouldn't have to use the splitter if I set the midi channel on instrument 1's parameters pane to channel 1, and if the the midi channel is set to channel 2 on audio instrument 2 ect. So in the above example, no matter how how many different events I send on different midi channels to audio instrument 1, audio instrument 1 should only respond to midi channel 1. However it responds to all midi channels. Again, the channel IS NOT SET TO ALL.
So here's a simple test:
-Instantiate Logic's EFM1 on audio instrument 1
-Set audio instrument 1's midi channel in the parameters pane to midi channel 4
-Create a blank midi region with the pencil tool on audio instruments 1's track in the arrange window
-Open up the blank region in the matrix editor
-With the pencil tool, create a few notes.
-Then open up the same region in the event list editor and make sure that all the notes are on a midi channel other that channel 4.
-Play back the region and EFM1 will play back not respecting it's channel assignment!
Hope this clears some stuff up.

I basically managed to learn how to invert parameters which allows me to be as default in the clean guitar channel and if I switch the first button on the midi foot controller I switch to crunch, but at this point I tryied so hard to programm the second and third button to switch, only through a button in one step, to a third channel for distorsion or a 4th channel for solo guitar but I couldn't figured out how this work can be done!
I would appreciate if anyone could help or share this experience with others who are experiencing the same problem.

How Can I separate my MIDI Channels with layered instruments in MainStage 2 With my Axiom 61?

I have been at it for 3 days straight. I want to play an internal instrument (EVB3 for example) and trigger samples with the EXS24 without triggering notes from the other instrument. I have my keyboard set to MIy help meDI channel 1 and my drum pads set to MIDI channel 10. The still play together. I've tried changing MIDI input on both channel strips to multitimbral, Channel 1 for the keyboard and channel 10 for the drum pads. Still playing together. I've tried changing attributes in the Mapping screen. Still...
I don't think its the Axiom. I've tried changing MIDI CC numbers but then it won't talk to either instrument. I'm currently using MIDI cables into a 3rd generation M-Box. I've tried using USB as well. Please, somebody help me!!

Sorry for the late responce, I've been in program mode and haven't had a chance to come back to this.
I figured it out. It was an option that I had over looked in the Assignments & Mapping tab in Edit Mode. At the bottom of the window that says All Devices. In that menu there is another tab that says Channel 1-16. If you click where it says Unassigned, down in the Screen Control Inspector there is a checked box that says "Send unassigned MIDI to all Channel Strips". If you uncheck that box then everything works perfectly. It is a little extra work having to assign the keyboard everytime you ad a channel strip but when you have to do some serious programming it's worth it.
Anyone who needs to program with multiple devices should uncheck this right out of the gate. It will save you from pulling your hair out.

How can I manually enter MIDI channel number in Control Surface expert Value Change field?

I am creating a software interface for a multidimensional controller which can transmit many linear values at the same time. I can not use Learn mode because it always sends data from all sources, but I can split them by MIDI channels. I would like to manually enter controlling values into Control Surface expert view.
I seem to be able only to input the message, but not MIDI channel on which it is transmitted.

Stupid me, it's hex... so 80 is Note Off ch 1, 90 Note On ch 1 etc

New problem, 2 of 11 channels do not respond to input voltages

Hi All, I recently posted a question about my output flat lining, Thanks for all the help. Since then we thought the problem was gone. I'm not sure. We had an applications engineer here on monday morning and she was great. She re-did our vi front to back and we thought we were in. Except now two of eleven channels seem to not like us, they pick a voltage point all there own and refuse to read above that point, they just flat line. The set up for the Daq is as follows: Brand new Dell (bells and whistles) that had one PCI slot available for the new PCI-6224 M-Daq board. To this we have a SCC-68 accepting signals from a generic 5-B module back plane (all analog grounds are shared). Into the 5B's there are mixed voltage and current inputs (all modules are matched to the inputs and all output 0-5vDc). Most inputs work great, two do not. The new Block diagram uses my pre-defined Task with eleven inputs(mixed) with a couple of empty spaces on the board (i.e.0 is empty, 1-9,12,15 have inputs) The channels that do not like us are 1 and 7. The new vi. was built by the appl. engineer using my task and the panel included an indexing array so we can watch all channels at once while the file runs, we also collect data to a .lvm file for later export. We have tried rescaling the inputs on both the trouble child channels a number of times, we checked the constants for each array and checked the waveform graphs too many times to remember. If I disconnect these two channels and in put known voltage levels from a calibrator on channel 1 I see a change in signal up to 1.063 volts Dc then it flatlines. The scaling for that channel was set up numerous times using Linear and Mapping functions in Max. No difference, even when scaled to only read the voltage input (y=1 x=0). We did change the Task(i.e. build a new one a number of times and paste it into a copy of the vi. the engineer built for us, no help. I should mention that I changed all of the inputs at that time to NRSE from RSE (after the problem) because I felt the description of NRSE fit our situation better (High hopes). All of the channels share an earth ground with their excitation power supplies (I did not set this up, I adopted it and am trying to make it work) and most travel hundreds of feet to the setup. I do read the voltages that are supposed to be there in the SCC-68 and I do see them vary as they should, but the Daq card doesn't see what I see. The App's Eng. can't come back soon enough to help us again so I was hoping someone here might have seen this before and be able to set me straight on what I did wrong. Thanks Rich.

Every time I have seen this bahavior occur, it has been because the input limits of the virtual channel are not correct. Whenever you create a custom scale for a particular channel, you then have to specify the input limits (max and min) in terms of the scaled units, not the raw voltage. Please check to make sure that you have done that. If you are still having trouble after that, please post back with the specific numbers you are using for max and min input limits, and we can troubleshoot from there.

Logic midi exporting problems (does not work with cubase)

ok so there is an audio file i need converter to midi for something i'm working on someone with who uses cubase...
so basically an audio file from cubase needs audio to midi. since cubase does not have this feature i imported the .aif file from the cubase project and used audio to score to extract midi. i then exported the midi file and imported it back into the cubase project and it was not aligning with the audio file.
note that the cubase project has variable tempos but i imported the file into default tempo and extracted the midi in the default tempo mode. but this shouldn't be a factor since midi conforms to current tempo so when it gets reimported back into cubase it should sync with the project tempo there....
can anyone help???

You have a couple of choices:
Within the EVB, change the Keyboard Mode to single. You may need to do this a couple of times to get it to work. You would also need to do this for every EVB preset that you use
You could setup the organ Instrument Channel Strips as "Multi-Timbral" with the incoming MIDI mapped to Channel 1. You would need to do this for every Organ Strip that you want to use in your MS Concert.

Using MainStage with multiple MIDI inputs (two keyboards!)

Hi Guys,
I use two keyboards for my live gigs, and am thinking about moving all my sounds over to MainStage. Most of my recording uses Native Instruments and Logic's standard AU instruments, and then I have to find similar sounds on my Korg and Kurzweil for live...
My question is... can you use MainStage with two MIDI controllers? I'd obviously want to set up the presets in MainStage so that there are different instruments being controlled by each synth.
Would love any advice on whether this can be done, and a quick pointer as to how...

Easily done (I'm using two USB controllers on a gig now). Just set them up in Layout mode, then be sure to select the input of choice for your specific channel strip(s) in each patch. Or of course you can set things up at the set or concert level as well.

Problem with input data format - not "only" XML

I have problem with input data format.
I get some data from JMS ( MQSeries) , but input format is not clear XML.
This is some like flat file with content of XMLu2026.
Example:

2. data after last parser </Document> -> 000016750
This data destroy XML format.
Unfortunately XI is not one receiver of this files and we canu2019t change this file format in queue MQSeries ( before go to XI) .
My goal is to get XML from this file:

If you use inbound File adapter content conversion you could replace these values with none and then pass it to the scenario.

Certain tracks assiging random MIDI channels to notes

Well, not exactly random. With some consistency, when I record on certain -- but not all -- EXS24 instrument tracks, the recorded notes take on MIDI channel assignments other than the channel on which they were transmitted (by various elimination processes, I've confirmed that the problem is NOT with my controller keyboard). Moreover, notes that lie within the upper octave (e.g., the keyswitch octaves for low register instruments) take on the correct transmitted MIDI channel –- channel 1 -– but all other notes will appear assigned to MIDI channels such as 5, 9 and 13.
Deleting the offending audio object from the environment, then restoring it or recreating it, solves the problem for an individual Logic session, but (I think) upon reboot the phenomenon recurs.
Anyone every heard of or experienced anything like this. Solution?

To answer your most immediate question, my transport verifies that I am transmitting on channel 1. Likewise when I set the controller to transmit on channel 2, it confirms receipt of data on channel 2. No effect on result. That is, funny funny MIDI jumping occurs. Ha. Not.
When you say "a ton of tracks", are you seeing more than the 7 tracks that I've preserved in the arrange window? There are indeed a ton of instrument objects, but I've deleted most of the tracks. If you're seeing more than 7, then we've got another layer in this mystery.
If you expand the view of the arrange window, you'll notice that the regions have names that indicate the origin of the data they contain. I originally suspect this had something to do with routing, hence the region name references to output assignments (e.g., bus 9 = ch 1). Later I realized out assignments had no effects on the process. At measure 40, you can see the ascending MIDI channels, with the arithmetic pattern continuing uninterrupted as I changed instruments.
See especially the "snare and new snare" track, where the data at first recorded in accord with the channel jumping, and where, after the assigned audio object was deleted then recreated, the data recorded on the correct channel. This phenomenon, by the way, rules out the controller keyboard as the source of the trouble.
Further confirming that the controller is not the problem is the fact that this weird MIDI channel arithmetic game does not occur in new sessions called up from a different template. There is something wrong with the file.
When you got MIDI channel 1, you might have been on the "fixed tracks" – "snare" and "EVB3". Try "bassi", among others. Meanwhile I've noticed another clue (if indeed there exists a decipherable cause): when I set my controller to transmit on channel 2 instead of channel one, all data records
By the way, does the EVB3 play for you? Not for me (but see my previous post about this little oddity).

I tried different midi controllers, different keyboards, different midi cords, and check midi preferences. The audio interface is working fine and is recogonized, but the midi doesn’twork. I re-started the computer several times and then finally it miraculously starts working again.

I Had the same problem with a FireStudio. Try unplugging the FireWire plug and the power plug. Wait for a few seconds, then plug both back in. The light on my FireStudio was flashing blue/red which means "not connecting." I did what I just described, and everything works again. Hope it works for you.

In iPhoto it was possible to go into the iPhoto prefs and set up Elements as an external editor. After using “Edit in” the image was saved back to the iPhoto library. Photos for OSX is very new, so I’m not sure whether that is possible with the new app. Have you looked for the prefs/settings? You could ask a question on the Apple forum:

I was working for many years with midi software,
since I changes to Mac os x Mountain Lion nothing works anymore
- SIBELIUS (annotation software) doesnt work properly
- Ivory II doesnt work properly
they all gave me MIDI initilization problem messages.
so I checked the MIDI Configuration, unfortunately MIDI STUDIO crashes with the message that it can't start the MIDI Server,
giving the hint, if i installed lately MIDI Drivers I should deinstall them, try again and if the problem disappeared contact the midi
driver vendor....
well, I didnt instal any new midi drivers explicitely, since this mac os is transported from another mac and the updated to Mac os Mountain Lion.
so that doesnt help...
any body has a solution?

I googled a lot and foun in many different forums of different Music/Sound/Recording Software similiar problems, they all had the MacBookPro Retina.

I found a solution for this hanging MIDI Issue after many hours googling.
Probably The MIDI Server from Mac OS cant be started because a driver is not comaptibel with your OS.

On Mac Os X there is a folder
\$(HOME)/Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers
I moved the 2 existing drivers to the Desktop.
EmagicUSBMIDIDriver.plugin
Fireface MIDI.plugin
after that it worked. seems like one of the 2 Midid drivers causes problems. I do use a fireface interface but I dont know from where Emagic comes, it is supposed to be from ProLogic, whcih I dont rememeber I ever installed??? may be it is from garageband?
may be the fireface Plugin was not compatibel with mac os Mountain Lion on MacBookPro 15 retina?
