I'm on a DD-WRT wireless internet service. Could this network be causing my iMac to act weird ?

From reading this site and others, looks as if there could be thousands of possiblities/remedies.
I agree. Aside from the very remote possibility that running Java for that "trusted" website allowed some kind of infection--and if it was some kind of exploit, I doubt it would manifest itself in any way you'd notice--there are just too many different things going on for me to give any help.
Why were you thinking it was the router/DD-WRT? What if you connect directly by Ethernet?
Some generic thrings to try.
See if a Safe Boot helps. Shift at the startup chime and give it much longer to boot than normal. Don't open anything, leave it a minute or two and then restart normally.

You could try the shotgun approach and reinstall, but first you must be certain to have a completely reliable backup, in case you need to restore.

Hello, I've used almost all of the 30 gigs of my 4G LTE wireless internet plan for this month and I'd like to purchase additional data immediately. How do I go about this?

If you are on the special double data offer getting 30GB for $130, you can't change data plan without losing your $130 deal.  In this case it may be best to absorb overages
if you just have 30 GB at regular price, you can go online and go to the next data level and retrospectively apply it to the first day of your plan.

It is not properly connected to the network.
Make sure location is set correctly
DNS should be on auto (settings - general - network)
    Try ethernet
Signal strength on device won't account for issues, you would need a network report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar. This will show accurate signal strength along with noise and nearby networks

  • Wireless internet service when wifi not available

I have AT&T wireless service and I'm wondering if there are any devices that work with AT&T to give my MacBook Pro wireless internet access when wifi isn't available. Or is there any way I can accomplish the same thing through my iPhone (I've got a 3GS on order).
    Thanks,
    Rob

The iPhone service is called "tethering" and will be supported by AT&T later in the year - it will be an extra charge. AT&T also offers USB and ExpressCard broadband modems which will do the same thing without using your iPhone - again, though, they charge additional data charges over and above your iPhone data charge.

  • How can i run wireless internet when using windows xp on my imac?

I recently installed Windows XP on my imac using Boot Camp, everything works great except the internet. ive been looking but i have found no way to get the internet to work via my wireless connection, or is it just not possible?
Could it be that i am missing some drivers? Anyone know where i can get them?
Sorry if im asking too much stuff.
    Thanks in advance

Depending on the wireless base station brand and specifications,
you may have to set up the Windows system to find & use it...
    Just about the same as setting up any Windows PC to go online;
except, if you have an Apple base station...
If you have an AirPort base station, there are updates for Windows
to help use that access point, from your Mac, running Windows.

  • Ethernet/Wireless internet problems..This is Driving me CRAZY..please help!

Alright i hope someone out there can solve my problem because i am about to throw my macbook against the wall. This is my problem:
Everytime i go on to the internet, in order for the internet to work i have to pull my ethernet cable out of the plug, plug it back in and refresh the page. The internet then works for about 4 pages on avg. and then it times out and says im not connected. In order to continue surfing on the net i have to pull the cable out and plug it back in. The wireless acts the same way. It will work and then times out. I have to turn off the airport and back on to get any internet.
The browsers im using are Safari 3.1.2 and Firefox 3.0.1 and both act the same way. My roommate has a PC and has had no problems whatsoever. Our internet comes through the wall from a plug not from a router. I personally believe that it is my computer because i have tried getting internet from the plug in his room and the same thing happens. The wireless around my school comes from different towers and no matter where im at the same thing happens. I dont believe that its the internet. Ohh and one more piece of info. My first year at school my computer gave me NO internet problems whatsoever. I bought the computer brand new in June of 2007.
If anyone knows how to fix this extremely annoying problem, please help me!! Thanks to all who answer~

    Hi
I'm getting a problem which may be related, and i've figured out some workarounds (sort of inadequate ones but at least they're something).
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: almost immediately after installing the 10.5.5. system update, my MacBook started disconnecting itself from my wireless network. i'd be working online and suddenly i'd notice that only 3 bars of the AirPort icon on the menu bar would be showing and that the internet connection was no longer there. the only way to get the connection back would be to switch airport off and then back on and it would connect again. a couple of minutes later the connection would be gone again. infuriating stuff! i checked the system log using the Apple System Profiler (from the Apple menu) and found some messages about there being too many state changes detected on the AirPort network interface and that measures were being taken to fix stuff. it's a pity i didn't save the original error message since i no longer get it, but here's one I found that's identical reported by someone else:
May 25 16:50:57 phoebe mDNSResponder[22]: Note: Frequent transitions for interface en1
(FE80:0000:0000:0000:021E:C2FF:FEB9:8B73); network traffic reduction measures in effect
anyway, the "measures" seemed to be to simply disconnect me from the net, which wasn't great. now the forums mentioned various solutions, but none of them actually worked.
SOLUTION/WORKAROUND: two things seem to have made a difference. 1. i downloaded the combo 10.5.5. system updater and reinstalled it. somehow after i did this the problem would no longer happen (at least those errors would no longer occur). 2. keeping my ipod touch wireless interface switched off, because whenever my touch comes online within a minute or two the iBook disconnects from the net.
COMMENTS: (1) even now if i connect to the wireless network with my iPod, my MacBook's connection will drop - so my solution is to not connect to the wireless network with my iPod touch, which ***** because i like to read stuff in bed on the touch sometimes. (2) reinstalling the system update (the combo version) definitely helped, because before i kept getting that error message in the system log, and even if the iPod touch was switched off the MacBook would still disconnect. (3) this suggest that there were two separate problems, one to do with a corrupted AirPort driver or something of that sort (which was fixed when I reinstalled the system update), and another to do with being kicked off when the iPod touch connects to the wireless network (this problem remains).
I've replace my Linksys wireless router with a Netgear wireless router, but that's made no difference, so i'm pretty sure that the problem has to do with the MacBook - either the hardware or the software. I plan to get another hard disk soon at which point i'll do a clear reinstall of the OS, and if the problem persists then i'll know that it's a MacBook hardware problem. =(
i'll post again here in the future, but if anyone has comments or suggestions or reports of this kind of problem then your input would be highly appreciated.
    thanx

  • Connect HP touchpad onto schoolwide wireless internet service

i need to be able to log onto a WPA2 Enterprise network, but the options are either WPA or Enterprise.  any way to add more options?
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

Bump. I've seen posts on this forum with regard to similar topics (like not being able to connect to Penn's wireless, etc).
My school doesn't use any fancy wireless. My iphone, ipod, macbook, and pc laptop can all connect to this wireless painlessly. Why is the HP TouchPad the only device requesting a certificate? I emailed myself the certificate that was on my macbook, but that didn't help.
Does anyone have a solution for this yet? This is TouchPad specific. It's not the WiFi that's "wrong" in this scenario. What do we change on the TouchPad?

You can try the following.  However, there might be something wrong/incorrectly set up with the wifi.
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router.

  • [SOLVED] Wireless internet connection problem during installation

    Hi to everyone!
I ask you a help in activating my wireless connection.
I tried to install from the recent ISO (201208 - via CD)
but I found some problems in activating a wireless connection in the first steps
    of the installation guide.
My laptop is a Hp pavilion dv5 1020-el, with an Intel wireless 5100AGN internal interface.
    So I did:
    1) iwconfig to see my devices and the system detects my wlan0.
    2) followed the Wireless_Setup page from wiki to set it
    3) used wpa_supplicant and passphrase to set my ESSID name and wpa key.
    4) iwconfig then showed wlan0 associated with my ESSID, with Power ON and Encryption OFF.
I could not try a connection via ping command.
    Even wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf did not work.
Maybe the problem is with Encryption OFF.
    Thanks for your attention!
    EDIT:
I solved this way, connecting to an open wireless open  network:
    1.(from boot) I created a profile in /etc/network.d/ from /etc/network.d/examples
    2. started a # netcfg 'my_ESSID'
    3. # ping -c 3 www.google.com
All is ok! I can install Arch Linux from my smartphone as a router.
But I couldn't connect to a WPA protected wireless network yet.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question. The company who provides the wireless internet service to my apartment complex moved the antenna next to my unit and claims he boosted the power. As the saying goes, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease". I complained almost daily to the apartment manager and she, in turn, griped to the provider which eventually led to the "solution" above. Using Skype is still shaky as the person I'm calling isn't always able to make out what I am saying. So, I use Skype only when I REALLY need to make a phone call. Even though none of your suggestions solved my problem, I am still very, very grateful to all of you who tried. Thank you very, very much! -- Matt

  • Enabling wireless internet from the mac

My macbook is so slow - buffering endlessy.
    1.  Previously, I accidentally created a location name while I was looking for my hidden internet network

    2.  In any case, could you kindly send me a link for a step by step procedure to update my mac system?
    3.  Also, the wireless icon (airport) also just disappeared - kindly tell me where I can find the option to

    4.  My mac gets the internet connection wirelessly from my cable - how can I adjust the mac so that it will
autoconnect to my cablet internet everytime I boot up the mac. I put off power when I leave my condo unit -
is this why I have to connect the mac to the internet every time?
    Thank you - TP

We need to know what version of  OS X you are running.
You may want to run these "standard" fixes if the problem persists.
    1) Check the amount of free space on your harddrive.  You should have a several gigs free.
    2) You should run disk utility
         a) verify the disk
         b) update your permissions.
    3) Try a safe boot.
Shutdown your machine.  Hold down the shift key.  Poweron.  Wait awhile Wait awhile while you harddrive
          is being checked.
        http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
Here is how to find out what version of Mac OS you are running:
Click on the blue apple in the upper left hand of the screen.
    click on this icon
Click on the first line, "About This Mac"
Most of these are numbers & that's what we want.
What version & Processor do you have?

  • Connecting my PDA Palm TX to Verizon wireless internet

I have a PDa Palm TX and recently switched internet service from Comcast to Verizon.  I can't connect to my Verizon wireless internet service.  I do not know which secuirty key setup I need.  Can someone please give me instructions on connecting to Verizon internet.  I have a wireless router and it works fine with my two laptop computers.  Thanks!

Connecting to the internet with your TX should have nothing to do with switching from Comcast to Verizon, but rather the type of security you (or someone else) set on your wireless router.  Also, some types of routers won't work with the TX.  Check the "stickied" thread near the top of this board for tips and "how-to's" about wireless networking issues.
If you don't know how to get into your router settings to check them there, you should be able to see the security settings on your laptop by checking the Network settings.

  • My situation is two separate buildings 100 feet apart. can time capsule provide wireless internet in both?

can time capsule provide wireless internet service between two homes 100 feet apart?

OK.. starting to get the picture..
You should have run ethernet between the two buildings not cable.
Does the cable for the second building start inside your house.. ie do you have a termination for cable or does the second building come in directly from the street.
If you have cable link between the two buildings you can buy ethernet to cable adapters.. plug one it at each end and simply extend by plugging it into the router on the main cable link.. simple and far superior to wireless.
Otherwise you need to work out what kind of budget you want to spend to do this..
You can buy professional or semi-pro stuff from companies like ubiquiti which are far superior to domestic wireless link.. or if you want to do it on the cheap figure out what is the min speed you can live with.
I can give you instructions for using a pair of old airport.. in WDS.. or new ones.. but the new ones will cost far more and no gain.. you can usually pick up the old discus ones for $10 on ebay and they work great.
But don't try to do it without a link.. ie a specific set of AP in one house plus repeater in the other. As anything you do without making a link will just fall down or become unreliable.
You must have a pair of matched items.. You want to do this with WDS.. and you want something with good range. If you want N wireless that is fine.. but buy a pair of N wireless routers that can do WDS with full WPA2 security. eg full N wireless edimax stuff is not bad. TP-Link also not bad.. but if you want to run airplay and bonjour etc.. anything apple network then stick to apple. You will find that non-apple wireless routers will often not work with apple specific protocols.. as they are just that.. non-specified.

  • Internet service through hughes net trouble accessing internet since upgraded McAfee software

08.04.2015 To whom it may concern: I originally had Hughes install their service in April 2014 shorty after I purchased my new HP computer with operating system windows #7 with service pack #1 and McAfee Anti-virus & firewalls software unlimited protection already installed on my computer. I had no trouble in the year 2014, but in late part of June 2015 after updating McAfee software I started to have problems connecting to the internet. I went so far to have McAfee re-install their software & check the IP addresses on the firewalls for internet connections - - COULD THIS BE THE  PROBLEM? I have checked Hughes system status and I have noticed a continue problem on the status reading of TuboPage reading status has being showed as "IDLE" instead of "UP". Per Hughes the TuboPage feature provides acceleration for web browsing. Acceleration is achieved - - per Hughes - - by the terminal establishing connections to one or more TuboPage servers. Now, may I also mention when I go to the TOOLS nab then to INTERNET OPTION then to CONNECTION nab then to SETUP - - it shows I'm connected to the internet, but when I press the button "BROWSE THE INTERNET NOW" - - nothing happens - - WHY IS THIS?  Thornton1960

I am having that same problem. Used to connect up with my home's wireles network (Linksys wireless cable router, Toshiba cable modem). The lapotops are working wiressles, but the Touch doesn't seem to be able to connect either to my wireless network or to a neighbor''s unsecured network that I used to be able to log onto.
I did travel and used the Touch to connect to other wireless networks. Since returning, nothing. I have reset all settings, reset network settings, restored to factory settings... nothing seems to help, still hangs up on the "Choose a network". I was hoping that restoring to the factory settings would work... it even prompted me for the WEP key, but still just hung there.
Thoughts? Do I need to go to the Apple STore?
