I'm planning to buy an iPad mini 1st generation, but is it future proof?

Hi,
I have iPad 1, but it's obsoluted since Apple stop its iOS on 5.1.1. Sold it, so planning to get iPad mini 1st generation.
Just wonder is it future proof?
Thanks !
chichichar

No technological device should be considered future proof. The mini will run iOS 7 and will continue to run that as long as the hardware allows. If you are worried about being able to update for a long time you should consider buying a more recent model.

I want to buy an Ipad mini for my brother in spain, but right now the waiting list there is quite long, so I was wondering if I buy it here in London, will it be the same? I mean, can I change the language, it will be exactly like the one they sell in spain, keyboard etc.. Thank you

It's completely the same, and you can change language and keyboard when he uses it. It will ask him for the language, so choose Spanish

  • Does the new smart case of  the new ipad mini with retina display fits on the ipad mini 1st generation?

Because the ipad mini 1g is 7,2mm and the ipad mini retina display is 7,5mm thick,

If you have a retailer near you, take your iPad in. Often they will let you try the case on before you buy it.
If the case is a slip case or a silicone one you might have better luck than a hard plastic one.

  • Do i need to sign a contract when buying an ipad mini wifi+cellular?

I'm going to Paris for my summer vacation and I was planning to buy an iPad mini in an Apple  store in Paris, Wi-Fi + cellular model. So I was wondering if I can buy the iPad mini without contract and then use the Sim card from my country.

No, you do not have to activate the iPad when it is purchased. I have had one for over 6 months and have never activated it. Using it in your home country will depend on the network requirments there and how compatible they are with the specifications of a French iPad.
As far as warranty goes, currently, you would need to return the iPad to France (or the country of purchase) for service. Although there are rumors of a change to this, but like all rumors, who knows if or when that may change.
    Good luck.

  • If I buy an iPad Mini 4G in USA and take it back to Spain, can I use it here normally? Is a data plan needed in US? Thanks!

I'm travelling to NY in 10 days and my intention is to buy and iPad mini 4G to use it in Spain as I live here. Any problem when purchasing? Do I need to sign a data plan in US for Verizon, AT&T or Sprint?
    Thanks for replying.

Wi-Fi + Cellular model: Keeps you connected to the Internet using a fast cellular data connection when Wi-Fi isn’t available. So you can stay connected when you’re commuting on the train, hanging out at the park, or looking for directions during a road trip. It’s available without a contract, and service is sold separately. See your carrier for rate plan information.
So what does this mean ...from online store

  • I'd like to buy an iPad mini WiFi + cellular in the USA

    Hello everybody!
I'm from Italy but I'll soon go on an exchange program in the US. I wanted to buy an iPad mini there because I'm going to need one. I think that iPad mini WiFi + cellular will be the best option so that when I'll come back to Italy I can use it with a local sim. But in the US I would use it as if it was only iPad mini WiFi, so I wouldn't buy an it&t/verizon sim, whereas in Italy I would buy a sim and use it as it is, WiFi + cellular. Would it work or not?

Yes as long as the provider supports iPad data plans.

  • I live in india. I am planning to buy an iPad from US.  Will an iPad from US work in India?

    Hello everyone
I am new to this Community and have a query.
I am planning to buy an iPad from US.
As I live in India , will my iPad work in INDIA?
Will I have to choose any specific carrier for that and why.
    Thanks & Regards
    Sushil Raisinghani

Well, first you have to come to the US to do that. When you do you will pay US sales tax in the state where you purchase it. Understand that once your return to India your warranty will not likely be honored, so you will have to return it to the US for any warranty repair. If you have it repaired in India by a non-Apple certified shop, then any further warranty will be voided.
Keep that all in mind before doing what you plan to do. You may find it is wiser to purchase it in India from an Apple certified reseller or retailer.

  • I already have an ipad2 and I'm interested in buying an iPad mini. Will I have to purchase all the apps I have on my ipad2 again if I want to use them on the mini ,or, will I simply be able to use them on both machines for no extra charge?

I already have an ipad2. If I buy an iPad mini will I be able to download the apps I have already bought on to it and use them on both machines?

If you connect the new mini with the same AppleID you have on the iPad and you used to buy the Apps you will be able to download them again for free.
You can even let your iTunes do all the work for you. Sync your iPad with iTunes and make a backup.  Give to the new mini a different name and the first time you will connect it to iTunes yiou will be asked if you wish to setup it as a new item or use the backup of the iPad.

  • What are the benefits of buying an Ipad mini over an Ipad 2

what are the benefits of buying an Ipad mini over an Ipad 2?

As Phil said, iPad mini is smaller; for most, it fits in one hand. It also has a better camera, and can take advantage of more software features like Siri.

  • I want to buy an ipad mini Wifi Cellular and use it in Central Asia,so there are two models: A1454 and A1455,what is the difference?

I want to buy an ipad mini Wifi Cellular and use it in Central Asia,so there are two models: A1454 and A1455,what is the difference?

Either will work fine in Central Asia as loge ad the carries support GSM (almost all do).
One of the iPads will only work with the AT&T GSM) network if you are in the USA and the Other with the Virizon network (uses CDMA, not GSM/SIM) if you are in the USA

  • Shall I buy the iPad mini 2?

So essentially, I wanted a smaller portable iPad that I could pop in my bag and carry it wherever I want. At home, I have the larger macbook pro so if it's movies I want to watch, i normally just tend to watch them on there. This iPad would be for university and even though, I have the macbook, I could watch the occasional movie or two on something smaller.
This is why I wanted the iPad mini 2 and since I wanted it in black and that I wasn't overly impressed with the touch ID that I have on my phone, I'm bypassing the iPad 3. I'd much more prefer to spend the money I'm saving from choosing the mini 2 than the 3 on an extended warranty.
My problem is, since the iPad 2 was released this time last year in 2013, will it be discontinued any time soon? The iPad mini 3 was released in October a few months ago, it was disappointingly bad. Considering the rumours of the mini series being discontinued, is it still wise to buy the iPad mini 2? Will it still receive the software support, in allowing it to use future ios system. I  really do love the small size of it but if there's a big chance it'll be discontinued, I'm not sure if im better suited to buying an air 2 even though id hate the size.
I'd appreciate any help on the matter.
    Salina x

No one can predict what Apple will do. If you need/want the iPad at this point in time, purchase it and use it.
If you don't need nor require the Touch ID (fingerprint scanner) that the iPad mini 3 has over the iPad mini 2, you can save yourself $100 and go with the mini 2. As you probably know, the mini 2 and the mini 3 are identical in specs and hardware *except* for the Touch ID sensor.
I was in the same situation when I heard of the mini 3...I was set to buy one (in addition to an already owned mini 2) until I saw the (negligible) differences in hardware and the price premium for that difference. I bought a second mini 2.

I am planning to buy Refurbished iPad with cellular, but it says iPad for AT&T.. And I want to put other SIM card in that since I want to use it internationally... So Is it possible to put other SIM in it?

If you can wait, you don't need one and lose nothing by waiting.
