I'm running Firefox 3.6.13. Add-ons say will be installed when Firefox is restarted but they don't install. What is the problem?

I also have a few add-ons that aren't compatible with my current version of Firefox, and they say they will be un-installed when Firefox restarts, but they still stay on the add-ons list.

Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry. New files will be created when required.

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the "Find Updates" button (in Firefox 4: right-click the extension -> "Find Updates") to do a compatibility check.

Whenever a new window (or even Firefox program windows like Add-ons, Bookmarks, Settings, etc) is opened, Firefox freezes for 30+ seconds before opening it.

I have reset Firefox, then reinstalled, removed all of the extensions and plugins, uninstalled and reinstalled Flashplayer, updated Java, etc. I have also created new profiles, which have the same problem.
The problem does not appear in Safe Mode, which is odd because I have disabled all of the built-in extensions and have run the program in regular mode, and the problem still occurs. Right now I am using no extensions, no plugins, and no themes, and Firefox still freezes for a short period of time whenever I try to open a new window.

Pictures on Firefox add-ons pages will not load in Firefox but will in IE

My operating system is now Windows 7 on a new computer although I use Firefox, not IE to browse the internet. I am having problems on the Firefox website, especially the add-ons pages. If I click on any pictures relating to add-ons I get a blank page but if I switch to IE I can see the pictures. This is frustrating because I did not have this problem on my old, XP operated computer.

Flash player lags bad with Firefox but not with google chrome,what is the problem ?

Every time i try to play any game using flash player with Firefox i have a lot of lag time. I have to stop playing and wait for things to catch up to play to play any more,I do not have this problem with google chrome playing the same games.I have updated all add ons and plugins.

Everyone can blame flash player if they want, but the truth is for me I went from an earlier version that had plugin container which created lag for me. I disabled the plugin container in about:config settings, and firefox worked fine. Plugin container screwed up any videos i tried to watch on the internet by freezing, lagging, and crashing firefox. I was fine after I disabled plugin container, but then eventually some time later down the road I received a warning that i would soon be forced to update my mozilla so I eventually/reluctantly gave in and complied. At this point the same problems started again!!! I disabled plugin container again and it did help a bit right away. But this version 12.0 even with plugin container disabled with just a few tabs open I receive choppy video (like a snapshot of the video at 3 seconds in, and then another snap at 6 seconds in) I'm only seeing snapshots of the video like every 3 seconds while the audio continues on fine. That"s how bad the lag is. This is horrible performance for a browser. If I try to load a video while one is already playing, just that little bit of stress (2 youtube videos open at once) is all it takes to crash this poor performing version of firefox. I mean I can't even close the tabs after these situations and the audio sometime runs after closing for me as well. These problems did not start until the version changes of firefox and the addition of plugin container, not flash player. I have been a loyal mozilla fan, but my patients is wearing so so thin with the performance of this browser at the moment. Unfortunately I just realized for the first time ever I actually have to (against my will) install another browser just to watch videos. How sad is that? Considering watching videos is one of the main uses of a browser, I consider this version a failure. How could I not??? I guess I have no choice but to Chrome it up. I hope a fix for this problem can be found soon for I miss the great performing days of this previously top performing browser. Fingers Crossed!!!

I have downloaded the add ons - keylogger 1.5 , made a computer re-start, but I don't see it and can not use it.

The downloading process gave the name "play music" for this add ons.

The keylogger password seems to be stored in the <b>extensions.pass</b> pref that you can inspect via the about:config page.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

If you are having permission issues, then that would be with your operating system. If you are using linux, mac or xp I can help, but I'm not familiar with Vista or Win7. (sorry)
abhinavn94: have you tried a stable (non beta) version? Are you still having the same problem?
AmberL: what operating system are you using? I've seen threads about back button problems but haven't looked at them. Give them a look over. The solution for that might be the same for the bookmark problem. (generally, if back doesn't work, its because there is no previous page to go to in that particular tab for that session, but I'm sure there are quirks that could cause it not to work) If you are running Vista or Win7 the best I could suggest is to look into Control Panel or whatever it is called now and look for Users & Groups. There you should find something to adjust security or permission levels. You can play with that and see if that helps, but I'd wait for someone who is more knowledgeable about permissions on those OSes to chime in first if you aren't comfortable mucking around with it.

Firefox will not stream Al Jazeera. Safari manages it perfectly well. What is the problem?

I had this problem and the following solution worked for me. I was using the Ghostery addon to block trackers. I systematically unblocked the trackers on the livestream page and reloaded the page until it worked. When I unblocked "Brightcove," it started working. None of the other 6 items blocked by Ghostery seems to matter.
So it's up to you if you want to allow Brightcove to track you.

Ive heard that lion is crap, escpecially because microsoft is having issues. I have 2008 office currently running fine and want to know if i will have issues when i transfer to lion. Is there going to be a problem carrying over microsoft 2008 to lion?

No, Lion is not crap. Are there problems? Yes, any major
system update will have problems. As for Office, the biggest
complaints are coming from those people with Office 2004 or
earlier, since these were Power PC based apps. Lion no longer
supports any PPC apps. As far as I know, 2008 should be okay.

I dl'd Firefox 4, was working great but, Firefox 4 is unable to work w/ Netflix. I hit the Netflix restart in 32-bit mode and now Firefox 4 will not open on my MacPro. I have to "Force Quit". What's the problem?

I dl'd Firefox 4 on wide release Tuesday. It was working just fine on all news sites I use. Then, I tried to use my Netflix streaming. Netflix alerted me FF4 needed to run in 32-bit mode due to its movie player plug-in. I hit the Netflix restart in 32-bit button, FF4 crashed. I've since re-dl'd FF4 and loaded it into the Apps folder on my MacPro(Mac OS 1.6.7/2.66 Quad-core/2 GB RAM/256MB GPU). It still won't open and I have to "Force Quit". Several "Reports" have been sent to Apple but, I don't think Apple is the problem. As it now stands, I can only run last version of FF on my MacPro.
I also have a MacBook(Mac OS 10.6.7/2.16 C2D/1 GB RAM/64 MB GPU) and I am able to have 2 versions of FF on that Mac. I even have the newest version labeled as Firefox4, so as to distinguish between the 2 for the purpose of using FF4 for everything but Netflix. So, what happened? What's the difference? Why won't FF4 run on my MacPro anymore?

If this were just a Netflix problem, why can I access Netflix through Internet Explorer and not through Firefox? I've been using Firefox to access Netflix for at least the past year and starting yesterday (12/6/11) Firefox doesn't seem to recognize that Netflix exists. I've tried the suggested Firefox "help" which was of no help whatsoever and may even have made life more difficult in accessing other accounts. Anyone know how to contact Netflix or Firefox by phone?

Firefox 12 crashes my OSX 10.7.4 system, even when Firefox is running in Safe Mode

Firefox 12 crashes unexpectedly. The whole OSX system hangs for unknown behaviors, i.e. opening new tab, selecting link, refreshing page, changing tab. It is non-specific or non-apparent. I also have frequent spinning color disks...sometimes they don't go away and the next mouse click hangs the system necessitating a hard reset.
My configuration:
Macbook Air, OSX 10.7.4, Firefox 12
I have one add-in: One Password 3.8.19. I have disabled this by running Firefox in safe mode but this has not helped.
My typical open application set is: Outlook 2011, Mail and Firefox (with multiple pinned app tabs). Sometimes I have VMWare Fusion 4.1.2 open running a Windows 7 VM but this is not correlated to the crashes.
I was using Trend Micro Smart Surfing for Mac and thought this might be the cause so I stopped running it. This had no positive impact so I conclude that it was not part of the problem.
My system knows it has crashed since following a hard reset, it reopens my previously open windows but no crash report is created or offered.
Safari does not crash the system.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
