I'm running Lion. Does anyone know if I will have to upgrade to Mountain Lion before upgrading to the new OS, Mustang?

Has anyone heard what OS will be needed to upgrade to the comming new OS? I am still running OS X v10.7.5 Lion on my MacBook Pro.

You need Snow Leopard or later as far as we are aware.
OS X Mavericks
You will find all the public information about OS X Mavericks here: Apple Releases Developer Preview of OS X Mavericks with 200+ New Features.
We are all users, too, so we don't know anything more about Mavericks than you.
For more information on the features of Mavericks see: Apple - OS X Mavericks.
Mavericks is expected to be released sometime this Fall.

        Ebony,
Let's see if we can't get this phone working for you! What exactly is happening with the device? Is the screen just out and you can hear that it will still ring, or is the phone completely dead? Please elaborate more on what you are experiencing.

  • HT1338 does anyone know how to get Java for OS X Mountain Lion working?

I updated to OS X Mountain Lion and some of the game at (Pogo.com) that use Java are not working. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance

Open up Java Preferences and it will offer to download and install Java for you.
Otherwise you can open up a Terminal and type:
    java -version
Which will do the same thing.

  • Does anyone know of a good speech recognition program for Mountain Lion?

I purchased a speech recognition program in 2008, MacSpeech Dictate. I only used it for a short period of time, but problems with my hands have started up again. MacSpeech Dictate does not work on OS X 10.8. I wondered if there are any speech recognition programs available for this operating system? i found "Dragon Express" in the App store, but it was rated low, and apparently crashes with 10.8. I cannot beieve that Apple would forget about those with disabilities. I have activated the speech commands window and have experimented with it, but it seems limited for browsing the web. I wondered if there was a way to create my own commands using the Speech Command application in Mountian Lion? Any ideas anyone? Have I missed something with Speech Commands on 10.8?

The built in dictation is pretty good.  The only real downside is that the conversion is done server-side so you have to dictate, then wait a bit, and then dictate, and then wait a bit.
The gold standard is dragon dictate.  I think it's a few hundred bucks but it's fantastic software.  I belive the Nuance engine underneath it is used by the Mountain Lion dictation feature, though.

  • Does anyone know where I can buy a 750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm for the new mac mini??

There is a mac mini teardown for the new model at this site: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Mac-Mini-Mid-2011-Teardown/6131/1. Here it says that the user can easily upgrade their own mac mini hard drive, but does any place sell a 750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm for mac mini that you know of???
    Thanks in advance.

My source for hard drives has, for years, been newegg.com. They have good selection, good prices, and speedy delivery. Also, a broad selection of user comments. You can find their 2.5" laptop 750GB serial ATA 7200RPM drives at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007605%2060003059 9%20600003340&IsNodeId=1&name=7200%20RPM

  • Does anyone know how to uninstall/re-install iTunes on Mountain Lion?  I can't hear music in the "Store", but I can in my Library?

I can not hear music in iTunes when I select a song for play in the "Store", but I can when I select them from my Library?  I can hear music offered in "iTunes Preview", just not in the actual store.  Contacted Apple Support and was advised to uninstall/re-install iTunes, but found you can't do that because it is integral to OSX? I previously downloaded Audirvana software after reading about it in Stereophile Mag.  I could hear Store songs with the original version of Audirvana, and later updated it.  After the update, no audio in the Store.  I've had no luck with email exchanges to date with Audirvana, or with Apple Support.  Any suggestions appreciated...

Try opening Audirvana and in the "Audirvana Plus" menu uncheck "iTunes Integrated Mode".

  • Does anyone know if I would have to pay to upgrade OS X Lion to the OS X Mountain Lion?

Hey, I am looking at buying a Mac Pro but have just seen thaat Apple has a new OS X Mountain Lion coming out htis winter.... Does Anyone know if I would have to pay to upgrade from OS X Lion to the OS X Mountain Lion?  Sorry this will be my first Mac and I would like to buy it with the latest OS.  I would hate to buy now then a newer OS comes out...  Can anyone help?

Well, as both hardware and software seem to be on an accelerating schedule of renewals, you might never buy a mac on that philosophy!
Apple normally offer a period of grace if an new OS comes out a month or so after a new purchase (i.e., you can get a free upgrade), but longer than that an you have to pay.
Of course, there's no compulsion to upgrade to the new OS just because it exists. Plenty of people are still running Leopard 10.5.8.

  • I'm a video editor working primarily in FCP7 and just purchased the latest Mac Pro running Yosemite ? Does anyone know if any options have become available for running FCP7 on this platform ?

It would "run" (more like Sunday stroll or walk) if you installed Snow Leopard in a VM. Especially if you have 6-core (and would help to have 6 or 8 cores anyway if you were able to and intend to make best use of nMP for video editing).
If you "classic" Mac Pro was 2009 or later, adding two AMD graphic cards, upgrading the processor to 8-core 3.xGHz would have gotten you a FCP-X capable machine and still dual boot and use Snow Leopard as needed.
Any Mac Pro can now use 1000MB/sec SSD PCIe blade to boot from and/or for scratch and editing to help improve work flow.

  • Does anyone know how to reload Java SE 6 back into Lion until Apple and Oracle get it together?

Does anyone know how to reload Java SE 6 back into Lion until Apple and Oracle get it together?

See the following, with all of its caveats:
    http://managingosx.wordpress.com/2013/01/31/disabled-java-plugins-xprotect-updat er/
For what it's worth, I am not using this method, nor am I re-enabling Java until Oracle comes out with a fix. I also won't be available to advise you on troubleshooting this method.

Get a Virtual Macine software program, Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox, and install XP in a virtual machine.
You can't install XP in a Boot Camp Partition with Lion or Mt Lion, only Win 7.

Does anyone know if Numbers will work on the MacBook Air?

If you just downloaded "free" Numbers then yes you have the current version that runs on OS X v9.x
If you need a Mac data processor (not specifically Numbers) then Open Office.org, Neo Office.org both have spread sheet (aka "number like) apps included with them. They also are free.

Would like to use iMessages internationally, sending between an iPod touch and and iPhone. Does anyone know if it will work between countries?

The iPhone is not user servicable. You can get an out of warranty replacement from Apple for $149. If you open the phone yourself, you forfeit the ability to do this.
