I'M RUNNING OUT OF EVERYTHING

I'm near the end of my rope. I've been more than patient dealing with jdev problems because every major problem has been solved with elbow grease, education, blood, sweat, and tears and, at least, a workaround. But I'm not too sure with this one.
10.1.3 EA 1 ADF warnings and I'm not using ADF. How-to get rid of them?
For some time I've been developing an extensive JSF JSP app with JDev and everything was ok until a couple of days ago when these warnings started (after making navigation and managed bean changes to faces-config.xml with the graphics tool). This "new" problem causes deployment failures to standalone oc4j which is a major problem for us.
But now I've run out of things to try, I'm at my wits end, and I'm almost out of patience with JDev. I'm going to give it one more good try tomorrow and if the end of the rope is at hand I'm downloading eclipse or netbeans or whatever.
Could be time to clean house and sweep out Oracle AS Enterprise Edition and JDev.

Sorry, Al, that this has gotten so frustrating. It sounds like you are up against it, which is a place we've all been and all hate to be.
I think, though, that you will be more likely to get help from others in this forum if you tone down the rant a few notches. My guess is that a lot of otherwise helpful folks, including some from Oracle, won't even bother to select your posts because of the flaming all caps titles and, although we've all gotten to the place a time or two of being ready to dump the tools we're using, the threat of that is more effective at showing how you're feeling than at getting you any sympathy.
Breath, brother. Bump your posts every couple of days. Plead every now and then. Open a ticket with MetaLink. Ask your co-workers for help thinking about the problem. Answer others questions where you can (just to build up a little forum karma). Tell you boss you need her/him to back off ...
(What's the saying about "free advice is worth every penny you spent on it" ?)

I open Aperture, and it opens Finder instead, showing the 3.5 update that was installed two days ago (and Aperture has functioned), but doesn't seem to update the app; after about 20 seconds the update disappears and I can now open Aperture and it shows I'm now opening the updated Aperture, which it didn't show before.
I click on Mail, and the cursor spins for ten minutes. The mail window finally opens, but the cursor spins and does not connect to upload new mail, and I finally Force Quit Mail. Since the Maverick update, even though Mail was not updated (and maybe because Mail was not updated), I have been able to receive emails twice, and then the program crashed.
Besides the Aperture app, Pages didn't fully update on the iMac, and I had to remove the old Pages icon from the dock after the new program loaded up from Applications.
Any ideas?

Mavericks Mail Kernel System Has Run Out of Application Memory

I have a new Mavericks late 2013 MBP. When I got the computer, I used Migration Assistant to transfer everything from my late 2008 MacBook to the new MBP. Now when I launch Mail, my memory use skyrockets and within a minute or so, I get a "run out of application memory" error message. Soon after the computer stops working until I reboot. Activity Monitor shows Memory Pressure at its redline max, Virtual Memory at about 70 GB, Swap Used 20 GB, Compressed 10 MB. The processes using all the memory are kernel-task 10 GB and mds_stores 5 GB. However, Spotlight is fully indexed and mds is inactive until I launch Mail.
Interestingly, it happens even if I quit Mail immediately after launching it - the Mail window doesn't even need to open; the memory ust still climbs. But it only happens with Mail; all other applications work fine. Also, it does not happen if I boot in Safe Mode or if I log in using a different user account.
I have spend many hours on the phone with the Apple tech guys, they sent log files to Apple engineering, and none can figure this out. Their solution is to work around by creating a new user and transfer files over - not an elegant solution...
I ran the diagnostic suggested by Link Davis; results copied below. I also ran the Etresoft diagnostic both before and after launching Mail. Results also copied below.
I am guessing that a 3rd party application in my user area causes Spotlight to loose control, when Mail is launched, perhaps trying to index 10,000 emails, but I really have no idea!
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Have you looked into Activity Monitor utility to see what system resources exist and how they are being allocated to applications, the OS X, and other background functions?
You could boot in SafeBoot (shift key held through startup) and run Disk Utility> repair disk permissions. That can tell you a few things about your hard disk drive, capacities, and it may not hurt to repair disk permissions. Restart normally when done.
Or try & boot from the Install DVD and use the version of Disk Utility in there to attempt to 'repair disk' while the HDD is unmounted. Then choose Startup manager to boot from the HDD and ignore the DVD on a restart.
Is your computer as listed, a PowerPC (pre-intel architecture)
Apple product, with a G4/G5 CPU from before 2006? If so,
a host could move the discussion from this Intel area.
Without more information, a failure of traction results from speculation.
Is your computer still running OS X 10.5.3, or is that 10.5.8+ now?

I have a macbook, 2Ghz 10.5.8 which is running out of room. Should I add all memory I can and will upgrading to mountain Lion use that all up before i even begin?

To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application SuperDuper. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then format and partition the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one and put your old one in the external case.

Since I installed Mavericks, the system says it run out of applications memory

I only have opened Finder (no any other app) but my Mac says "the system has run out of application memory". I don't know what the problem is.
I have a Late-2011 Macbook Pro with 8 GB of RAM. When I enter to "Activity Monitor" I can see that a process called "mds" use a lot of GB of RAM and 100% of my CPU and also kernel_task uses like 5 to 6 GB of my 8 GB of RAM. I reinstalled the OS and still have the problem.

I have a brand new MacBook Pro. I downloaded Mavericks, and I'm moving my information from my old MacBook Pro via Carbonite to my 2 day old MacBook Pro.. Carbonite tells me to continue to use my system...When I open Safari after a short period of time I get the Out of application memory dialog box. I also use a Brand New IMac which is not having any problems but am I not using Carbonite until I figure out what the problem is. So I went to the Activity Monitor and I see Safari using 8.5 GB of memory. What do I need to do to fix this problem of Out of application memory. As soon as I "Quit Process" for safari in the Activity Monitor everything drops back to normal...example kenel_task went to 1.1 GB. Note Mozella only uses 126 MB of memory. IS the Issue Safari or something else?

Wedding photography running out of space. Need help with thousands of photos, and workflow

So my studio does wedding photography. Me and my partner both take photos. We have about 30,000 photos just from the last 2 years. We are running out of space big time. We both have 1 terabyte magnetic hard drives in our computers. I have about 80gb left and she has about 120gb left. Needless to say, since I myself take about 50gb of photos per wedding, I'm not going to last long. We use lightroom.
So far I have managed to backup everything on an external 2TB hard drive for both of us. I save both RAW and Jpegs to it. I also have everything backed up on an online server. So here's my first issue. What I've been doing, is for the previous year (completed weddings) I delete all the RAWs from the computers. I leave the JPEG's on the computer incase I need them quickly. I keep all the RAWS on the external hard drives and online. But even doing this, deleting the RAWs from completed weddings off the internal hard drives, I'm still almost out of space. My computer is so slow because of this even though it's a top of the line computer with 6 gigs of triple channel ram. Lightroom runs so very slow and lags so bad.
So my first question is: By deleting the raws off of my computer, if I need to go back a few years from now and re-save the raw files or re-edit, will lightroom remember my develop settings or will I have to completely re-edit every photo? I have been saving a catalog file for each year, and start a new one every year. I do not use XMP sidecar files I save everything to the lightroom database. As long as I have the catalog file backed up, am I safe? Or am I doing this wrong? Because if open an old catalog file, it will say all the photos are not found on my computer (obviously).
My second question is: I am going to be investing in more hard drives and want to do it right this time around. I want to invest in SSD drives for maximum performance. Here is what my plan is. One SSD drive for windows/programs, one SSD drive for lightroom scratch disk, and one 1TB "Velociraptor" 10,000rpm magnetic hard drive for keeping the actual images on. Is this not right? Am I planning this out wrong?
Here is our current workflow. I am very welcome to suggestions:
1) Shoot wedding.
2) Import RAW files from CF card to computer. It goes in a folder for the client with the images going into different sub folders by category such as "reception" and "ceremony"
3) Import folder into lightroom4.
4) Edit photos. I do not use XMP sidecar, I use database.
5) Export files in JPEG form into the same client folder.
6) At the end of the year I save the catalog, make a new catalog for the new year. I delete the RAW files off of my hard drive after backing them up on 2TB external hard drive. I leave the jpegs and the client's folder on the computer hard drive.

My guess is that you are not actually deleting the original raws from your internal hard drives and have lots and lots of crud around that you are not aware off so you should go through your internal drives with a fine-toothed comb. Don't forget to actually empty the trash when you delete! 1TB is more than enough disk space for storing the Lightroom catalog file, previews and some jpegs. 30.000 photos is really not that much. My main catalog has >50.000 images in it with the raw files all stored on external hard drives. The catalog itself is on my internal 256 GB SSD HD that also houses the previews (so I can use it with the raw files offline) and the operating system as well as a lot of software (photoshop, office, iWorks, Aperture, etc.). It is more than enough space as it still has more than 150 GB free. I automatically back up everything, including the external HD that stores the raw images to separate external HDs stored in different places.

My mac's run out of memory and I can't find the culprit!

Hi, I'm in serious need of some help! I'm sure this is simple, but I'm about to break down over it – I use my mac for everything. I've got a 200gb 2009 macbook (running iOS7), and it's told me it's run out of memory. The storage tab in 'about this mac' tells me 108GB is being used for video – but I can't find them! My iPhoto has about 17GB of movies, my iTunes has around 20GB, and I've got maybe another 10GB in files within finder – but that's still only half the videos my mac is saying it has? How do I find the rest? I've got 80GB being used by 'other' as well – is that just pages and numbers documents, along with the iOS? Is there a way of finding exactly what all my memory's being allocated to?
I've got the entire mac backed up on an external hard drive, but I'm terrified of deleting anything from the mac in case that fails. I plan on getting a second external HD, but even then I think I'll be too worried (I've heard about so many hard drives continuously failing). How does anyone manage all their stuff?!?

Just a slight correction to start, you're not running iOS 7. You're running a version of OS X, iOS is for mobile devices like iPhones and iPads. To find out which version OS OS X you're running click the Apple menu at the top left and select About This Mac.

Why is Up Next running out of music in iTunes 11?

I'm running iTunes 11.01 and it thankfully has the option to skip by album added back in. However, I have iTunes set to shuffle by album and when skipping to the next album I frequently run out of music to skip to.
For instance, I'll begin playing an album and can maybe skip 3 or 4 albums in a row (sometimes less, sometimes more) before whatever is in the Up Next list simply runs out. It doesn't update with anything new and the playback just stops either as I skip the last album or when it reaches the last track. I need to switch to another library like Movies and then jump back to Music in order for iTunes to select another random album when I click play.
Is there any way to turn off Up Next so that iTunes will simply play a continuous stream of random albums or allow me to skip through as many random albums as I like?

pga error?There were other errors in the beginning, mostly because the people (not us) who installed the database form the beginning were not given any input on the use of the database so I guess they just took standard values for everything. Then when it started to get filled with data to the equivalent of production data the segments started to blow up - since the IT-dept that are in charge of the physical server don't like autoextents and stuff.

You could check v$pgastatYeah, I've checked it and also the advisors in the database. I've looked in several books as well but I haven't been able to find out why the PGA is to be a problem at all when using cursors?
Is there any data about each opening of the cursors that get saved in the PGA during the session? Is it "bad" to open and close the cursors too often for example? Should you open a cursor and let it be open for the whole transfer?
I'm not a programmer so I don't really know.

Running out of disk space in c drive

Hi,
i'm new to OBIEE, i installed obiee 10.1.3.4 on my computer , i'm doing practice on sample sales. every day i could see message running out of disk space, daily i'm purging cache entries and deleting sessions in UI, and also deleting temp files in oracle BI data, but still i'm facing this problem.
could anyone give me more ideas.

iTunes prefs - Advanced.
Set the *iTunes media folder location* to the external drive.
Make sure *Keep iTunes media folder organized* and *Copy files to iTunes media folder ...* are both checked.
Then go to iTunes menu File > Library > Organize library - Consolidate.
This will copy everything in iTunes to the new location.
After it is complete, quit iTunes then delete \Music\iTunes\iTunes media\ folder.

How do you fix lines that come up on an iPod Touch (5th Gen) once it turns on after running out of battery?

This has happened to me about 4 times now. I just got a brand new iPod touch (5th Gen) after replaceing my 4th gen iPod. I havent had it for a month, so its still brand new. The only thing is that when the iPod runs out of battery it turns off (duh) but it doesnt turn back on when you plug it in to charge. When I noticed that the iPod doesnt turn on, and I hit the power button, lines appear on my screen. They are lines that run up and down the screen from left to right. I try factory resets, setting resets, restoring my iPod. But this issue keeps coming up. I honestly dont know what to do. This thing is brand new and its acting up on me. Should I take it to my apple store? Should I just put up with it. I have tried everything and at this point I dont know what to do anymore. Please help!!

Running Out of Memory Since Yosemite

Let me start by saying I was originally part of the Yosemite Beta and was running into the same issue.
After running my system for >20-25 minutes a menu pops up and says I've run out of memory and it has paused my programs. Looking at my Activity Monitor, it says my Mail is running at 64+ GB of memory. When I restart my system, Mail ranges from 64 MB - 120 MB, then it some how creeps up to 64 GB and crashes.
When the final release of Yosemite was released I did a complete clean install, thinking that maybe that was the issue. Tonight I received the same error. After searching online I didn't really find anything of help. I'm hoping someone in this community can help.

I'm having the exact same issue, on both a 2013 MacBook Air, and on a 2009 iMac. I've used activity monitor, and can observe the mail app increasing in memory usage from 200mb during normal conditions to a sudden rise to 60+GB. Same activity monitor screens as in this post. If I force quite the mail app, everything returns to normal, but this happens at least once every hour. So my assumption is that 1) yes it is the mail.app, 2) it's happening to quite a few people, 3) it's happening on a range of recent as well as older machines, 4) it was introduced with Yosemite, 5) it's not a "plugin" as someone suggested in other posts, 6) no help from clearing cache, clean installs, deleting preferences or container folders in the library.
I would lIke to think Apple will address this issue, but find it alarming that someone in this thread has raised 12 tickets about it in beta without receiving a response. For those of us affected, we might be in for a long wait.

Generating large amounts of XML without running out of memory

I need some advice from the experienced xdb users around here. I´m trying to map large amounts of data inside the DB (Oracle 11.2.0.1.0) and by large I mean files up to several GB. I compared the "low level" mapping via PL/SQL in combination with ExtractValue/XMLQuery with the elegant XML View Mapping and the best performance gave me the View Mapping by using the XMLTABLE XQuery PATH constructs. So now I have a View that lies on several BINARY XMLTYPE Columns (where the XML files are stored) for the mapping and another view which lies above this Mapping View and constructs the nested XML result document via XMLELEMENT(),XMLAGG() etc. Example Code for better understanding:

Sounds pretty easy but can´t get it to work, the DB seems to load a full DOM representation into the RAM every time I perform a select, insert into or use the xmlgen tool. This Representation takes more than 1 GB for a 200 MB XML file and eventually I´m running out of memory with an

My question is how can I get the result document into the table without memory exhaustion. I thought the db would be smart enough to generate some kind of serialization/datastream to perform this task without loading everything into the RAM.

The file import is performed via jdbc, clob and binary storage is possible up to several GB, the OR storage gives me the ORA-22813 when loading files with more than 100 MB. I use a plain prepared statement:

Workfow Iterate to subprocess runs out of memory

I have a workflow that returns all suspended tasks and then calls a subprocess for each task. The subprocess decides whether the task needs to be deleted and if so it processes the task in various ways before deleting the taskinstance.
I have no issues when there are not too many tasks returned by the query but when the workflow returns 2000+ items, I run out of memory.
What is the best way to workflow to call the subprocess without running out of memory?
Do I need to cleanup something at the end of subprocess?
Do I need to add something in the workflow to beakup the list of tasks into smaller chunks?

I didnt think that this would put that much stress on the system.
1) Use IDM best practice to generate low memory tasks, use exposedVariables and extendedVariables in manual actions to generate low memory tasks, that will save lots of memory.
No manual action. This is a scheduled task.
2) Run this workflow on dedicated server which is responsible to run this task only.
I have run this when no one else was using the system but that did not help either.
3) You can put some more conditions to get the limited return data which your server can handle in one go.
we normally have 8000 tasks in the system. About 5000 are completed so I can ignore those in the workflow. The rest need to be looked at to determine if we need to update the request. Let's say that I can use a rule to determine that in the workflow before the subprocess is called and I end up with a list of 500 taskinstance names, I think that the process will still run out of memory unless there is some other solution.
2000 task names in a list should not take up that much space. I am pretty sure that the subprocess which determines if the task needs to be deleted is chewing up resources. This is going to be a scheduled task with no manual actions.
My thinking was that workflow calls the subprocess and the subprocess does a lot of work as far as canceling a request, disabling accounts in some cases, auditing and notifying users that their request was cancelled. Upon return to the workflow to get the next taskinstance name, there is probably some variable that keeps getting larger with each iteration.
I have run smaller lists and the flow diagram that returns at the end shows the flowchart for every item that was deleted so that is probably 1 place where the variable keeps getting larger.
Is there a way to clean everything so that each subprocess acts as if it was the 1st and only time it was getting called?
I tried the following at the end of the subprocess but that did not help:

MacBook Pro with Retina Running Out of Space

Hi there.
I have a MacBook Pro with retina running OS X mavericks. Recently I have taken a look into "about this Mac" and found that I am running out of space (Picture Bellow). I found that most of my space is in Apps and I am trying to find where they are on my Mac HD. By going to the Macintosh HD the fallowing had this much space taken up "Applications (9.69GB), Library (4.74GB), System (5.7GB), User INFO (49 bytes), and Users (71.89GB) “. I found that Users (71.89GB)-> Pictures(58.91GB) is taking up most of the space but that accounts for Movies (46.91GB) and Photos (12.12GB) but not Apps. Where else should I look for the 90GB Apps or is it just the OS taking up this space?

If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You're in no danger of running out.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.
