I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and trying to install a purchased copy of Lion 10.7, to no avail. Apple Support doesn't seem to have a solution - help?
I purchased Lion 10.7 on Christmas Day, I received my redemption code a week later. I've tried to download Lion to no avail. I've been in contact with Apple Support and they haven't been much help so far. My computer is currently running Snow Leopart 10.6.8 - however, I received Photoshop Elements for Christmas and I need at least 10.7 in order to run the program. Nothing is working. Before commenting - I CANNOT install Mavericks because it'll mess up the versions of Filemaker Pro and Quicken that I use regularly. I tried installing Mountain Lion, at the suggestion of Apple Support but I need to be running at least 10.8 in order to install that. What do I do? I don't want to have to be pushed into buying another computer when this one works just fine - but I'd like to be able to run Photoshop Elements. Apple has charged my credit card for the purchase of Lion and yet it won't install and I don't know what to do now.

Current versions of Fusion and Parallels are compatible with Yosemite. Both are applications which you only run when you want to run Windows within them. As such, there's no effect on computer performance when they're not in use. Like any other software, there is some additional load on your Mac when both Windows and the Mac OS are running together, but any noticeable effect depends on what each is being expected to do and what resources (e.g. available RAM and the number of CPU cores) you can devote to each.
I think there's less chance of HD corruption with a VM than there is with running Windows natively on the Mac in Boot Camp. Consider that, with a VM, you can create Snapshots of the state of your VM at a given time, and then, if something goes wrong (virus, malware, software installations), you can simply restore the Snapshot in a matter of seconds and eliminate the problems in the process. Moreover you can make a backup copy of the entire VM file, and replace a later version if you wish. Also consider that you can assign, say, 100GB of HD space to the VM, but the actual space devoted to the VM is only what's actually used; as more is needed, more is made available and Windows can't tell the difference. So, for example, my Win 7 Pro VM has an 80 GB virtual HD but only takes up 45 GB on my SSD, and that's with XP Mode in VPC installed inside it.
Microsoft no longer supports XP, though virus signature updates are still being issued. But MS has installed a pop-up message about EOL that won't go away (it's installed with KB2934207). Even if you remove that KB in Add and Remove Software, the pop-up continues. But if you have a Snapshot or a backup which is prior to it's original installation, you can skip installing KB2934207, and suppress it's reappearance on a Software Update list. -
I have a imac running snow leopard 10.6.8 and have adobe cs5. Is it safe to update to mountain lion 10.8.2 and keep adobe CS5 running properly?
You should not. But it never hurts to have a backup because bad things can happen.

I continue to get crashes from my Mac Laptop Maverick. I was running Snow leopard without any hassles and have now upgraded to Maverick. I get continued crashes, on start up or if I am running a program like GoPro to edit video or Firefox. What to do?

I have snow leopard 10.6.8 and want to get on iCloud which requires Lion... should I buy Lion at $29.99 now and upgrade to Mountain Lion when available (I can't see where it is available for download yet) and what is cost of upgrade to Mountain Lion? Or should I simply wait for Mountain Lion?

Is there a way for my macbook air (running Lion 10.7.2) to access an external hard drive on my Imac (running snow leopard 10.6.8) specifically for Iphoto and itunes?
Yes. For those two applications specifically there is sharing. This presumes both computers are on and connected to the same network.
In iPhoto, enable sharing by (on the iMac) going to the iPhoto menu > Preferences > Sharing > check Share my photos. You can either share the entire library or only selected albums. Now on your MacBook Air, in iPhoto, go to the same preference pane and select Look for shared photos.
iTunes has something similar. In the iTunes menu > Preferences > Sharing > check Share my library on my local network. On the other computer, look in the left column for SHARED and select the iMac. You can now play that music on the MacBook Air.
There are other ways to share files but for those two applications this is the simplest way.

I am currently running Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.8 on an iMac. Was wondering if I have to
upgrade to Lion OSX before upgrading to Mountain Lion OSX or can I just jump to Mountain Lion?No one in these forums know the answer to that. We will all have to wait and see what the requirements are.

IMac upgrade from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mavericks errors by failing to restart computer........after install message states that "your computer is restarting in x seconds"...then window appears that "application install OS x Mavericks failed to quit"...try to log out again, quit install OS x Mavericks and choose apple menu to log out...........this does not work!
Are you running OS X Server (the forum this question was posted in), or are you running OS X? If you're not sure what that difference is and why I'm asking it, then you're probably running OS X and are very likely not running OS X Server here.
Hopefully you have a pre-upgrade backup of your data, on the off chance something has either already gone badly wrong already, or if something goes wrong with the following...
To force the quit here and to force the shutdown here, press and hold the power button for ~10 seconds.
If you don't have a backup already and if the box doesn't reboot, then you'll want to boot from the 10.6 DVD (of OS X or OS X Server) and create a backup — it won't be a particularly good backup of the OS X or OS X Server system, but at least you'll have access to your own files and related data. This backup because recovering from a badly-failed upgrade might involve reinstalling OS X. -

I am running snow leopard 10.6.8 and my mail is not responding
I haven't changed any of the settings in on my computer and suddenly both aol and .me are not going online.
When I try to add a new accound i get the following response.
" Logging in to the MobileMe IMAP server “mail.me.com” failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn’t correct, you cannot receive messages."
I have tried using different ports to no avail.
I have also tried to sort through other posts and found no solution yet.No one in these forums know the answer to that. We will all have to wait and see what the requirements are.

5 year old Imac running Snow Leopard with Boot camp.
My IMac will not boot up when I turn on?
The grey apple logo screen and Apple Jingle occurs but I get no desktop or Finder Window and the computer turns off after about 5 minutes of trying to start up.
I inserted Snow Leopard Start Up Disk and tried running Disk Utility - however the Internal Hard Drive is not accesible and shows as being unmounted.
Furthermore - there is NO Start up Internal Hard Drive to reinstall the Snow Leopard OS to.I see my External Drive and Boot Camp partition ONLY.
Could this be a Hard Drive Failure?
However, when I turn the Computer on and Hold the Option key I have no issue booting Windows via Boot Camp and running Windows XP?
What can I do to resolve this?

Although your OS X partition is unmounted, you can select it and repair the disk from the Mac OS X DVD. If it doesn't work, you will have to erase the OS X partition and reinstall OS X

Has anyone worked out how to fix screen flicker on MBP late 2010 running snow leopard?
Hey, I have a MBP late 2010 (MacBookPro6,2) running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and I'm having trouble with external screens. They work fine 70% percent of the time but the rest of the time there is intermittent flickering. This I have determined is a something with the computer and not the screen as other computers work on the screens without fault and the problem occurs on multiple screens when using the same laptop. This is a video of the flickering, http://youtu.be/vvAlhDQD7iw . I think it might be something in Snow Leopard as the problem does not persist when I'm using bootcamp. I think the flickering might have started after one of the Snow Leopard updates (10.6.4 maybe?) but this is not definate. I've had this problem for at least the last year but with a ramp in university work this semester this problem is really starting to be annoying. I tried turning off "Automatic graphics switching" and this had no effect whatsoever. The graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M. I had a look for updated drivers from NVidia but these would not install saying the system was incompatible. I have seen similar problems on here and other places but either they have not had a solution or have had a solution which did not fix the problem for me. Anyhelp would be great, specially if Apple would tell me how to fix it.
Regards RichardThanks Guys, I didn't try the different display settings as this wouldn't affect multiple screens (and when other computers are plugged in they use the same frequencies). I did try the update posted above but unfortunately this hasn't worked. So I decided to bite the nail and reinstalled Snow Leopard on top of the previous installation (ie without erasing the HD) and then updating it. It seems to be running better so may have been a problem with one of the updates. I'll report back if the flickering comes back though.

Mavericks upgrade : Macbook (early 2009) running Snow Leopard (10.6.8)
Hello,
I have a Macbook (early 2009) running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and want to upgrade to Mavericks.
I have upgraded to 4GB RAM and replaced the HD for an SSD. It works perfectly.
Now the issue comes with Mavericks upgrade.
The App Store offers me to upgrade to Mavericks but when I click on the Upgrade button, a message prompts it can not install Mavericks on this machine.
I am confused. Any idea on what I should check ?Toffe13,
Are you very sure of the exact mode (year etc), just saying as the requirements are:
"MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)"

Then have you tried reinstalling the 10.6.8 updates (combo 1.1) - http://support.apple.com/downloads/#10.6.8
Also...
I assume you've ran a full sweep of Disk Utility to clear any permissions issues etc. (rarely helps, but still)
Maybe provide a little more info on what you've tried thus far, I.E. is this a fresh install from your DVD's etc. or a migration from HDD to SSD etc.
