I'm setting up my (first!) apple tv.

It's located next to my modem and airport extreme. Should I connect the apple tv to the airport extreme with an ethernet cable or use it's wireless capabilities? Which is better? Does it matter? Thanks!

Might be a Apple problem, someone else just posted they could not get in to iTunes
a about 5:43.  Try iTunes frist then try getting in via Apple TV

  • How to set up a new apple e-mail address when already have an existing Apple ID

    Hello
Thank you for taking a look at my query - I have searched many posts but not found a specific answer to my question - so please help!
    My dilemma:
I am in effect running everything smoothly - I am already on iCloud and have an @me.com mail address.
The problem arises in that I need to change my name (due to a divorce) and hence my e-mail address -  I would like to use my maiden name for obvious reasons!
    So what have I tried?:
I have set up a new Apple ID using a 'hotmail' address, as you need an existing address to set an ID, but would actually like a new 'apple' address. How do I do this? Since I have registered all my devices (iMac, iPad 3 and iPhone 3GS) with iCloud already using my married name ID it seems I am unable to get another appleID? Is this true? Is there a way around this?
    Concerns:
I have many communications with lawyers and ex and various other things I would like to keep on my existing apple ID/mail account (and also itunes etc) I still need to be able to access this information. I am happy to keep this  apple ID active at the same time as having the new ID if this is possible on all the same devices? Currently however I do not know how to do this, i.e. run two mail accounts through iCloud OR ideally transfer my info to the new ID - however from reading around I believe this latter (logical) option may be impossible?
    So:
... I need a knight (or maiden) in  shining armour to help me understand my options, answer the Q's above and provide the steps I have to follow to do this as I am no IT guru! And as there are many similar Qs without a clear answer I'm sure you will gain lots of points!
    Thanking you kindly in advance!
PS. Apple if you are reading this please can you do something about this situation as there seem to be many questions around this issue. Unfortunately divorce and name changes are a frequent part of life these days and it would be good if you can accommodate this!

OK, so I realised I was still within my 90days of being able to get support from Apple due to recent iPad3 purchase.
So between what I have gleaned from this forum and what I have learnt from the support call here I hope is a comprehensive one stop shop  answer to the question... "How do I get another Apple e-mail address ?" It's not straight forward but bear with me as you will get a result (also if anyone with IT prowess can offer further advice or clarification please do reply to this so we keep all info in the same place)... right -  we shall begin:
First a few points to bear in mind/wise words that I wish I was aware of before:
You preferably do not want more than one Apple ID so that syncing etc is straight forward. SO create an e-mail address that you will be happy to have no matter what, whether you are married/divorced (and yes it unfortunately could happen...) etc...
    So...
    1. First go to www.myinfo.apple.com, change your country as required and click on manage your account. Log-in. Should go straight to your Name, ID and e-mail tab.
    2. OK you are now presented with one of two scenarios....
    a) If your AppleID and primary e-mail address  is a me.com (or mac.com) then you are unlikely to have an edit option next to this line - follow point 3. Another ID has to be generated, and unfortunately (as Winston Churchill above rightly pointed out, the problem that you will have on the whole is that any purchases you make from the iTunes Store under your previous account, will be inaccessible on many of your devices. - IF however all you wanted is a new e-mail address and you are happy to keep running your old ID at the same time - there is a way around this .... read on to point 3)
    b) If your AppleID and primary e-mail address is not a me.com (or mac.com) then - follow point 4. This is the better option to have, hop skip and jump with glee as you will in effect have the same ID account and syncing will not be an issue. But note that your new ID will not be editable going forward so head my words of wisdom above.
NB. If you already have more than one ID and one of the 'Apple ID and primary e-mail' is editable i.e. 2b) then choose this option to change as it is simpiler to manage.
    3. OK lots of steps here and explanations:
    i) You need to create another Apple ID - there are two ways of doing this a) if you go to your iphone or ipad settings > iCloud > delete your account (Don't worry you are effectively only signing out and not deleting) (you'll be given an option what to do with your contacts) > The page will then give you an option to create a new Apple ID.... follow the steps, and you will get a new me.com  AppleID and primary e-mail address.
    b) If you do not have an iphone or ipad - use your computer: Go to sytem preferences > icloud > sign out of account (again you will be given an option to keep contacts on the computer etc. do what is appropriate for you). An iCloud window  should then pop up - and there is an option to 'Create an Apple ID'... follow the steps, in 2nd step (after date of birth input)  go for the free iCloud  option and do not use an existing e-mail address (e.g. hotmail or gmail)... as it then gets more complicated (I did go down this route as I didn't know any better - so I can explain if you wish to know - just ask) - continue with the steps and you will get a new me.com AppleID and primary e-mail address.
ii) Now assuming you have an itunes account and other devices... and you will want to sync everything across devices... then ensure you log back into your OLD account and use this as your main  account on all devices. This will keep all things synced between devices with no problems.
iii) To get your new e-mail account active go to all your devices and computer and just add the new me.com address as another account:
    a) on iphone and ipad: settings > mail, contacts, calendars > "add account"
    b) on computer assuming you use mail: Mail>preferences>account information> hit the '+' under the left hand account box and fill in the details... You will then effectively have two mail boxes running in mail - your previous and new one. What I have noticed is that you can drag and drop (which will copy) mailboxes you created in your old account into your new account - which is great as you can keep the stored messages to hand and effectively you can taper down use of the old account (or use as you wish) over time and eventually not notice the old account is in the background.
Hey presto you have a new e-mail address AND your devices are syncing itunes, photostream etc...
    4) So - much better option....
    i) create a new Apple ID as per point 3i) above.
ii) go back to www.myinfo.apple.com, change your country as required and click on manage your account. Log-in with old ID. Under Apple ID and primary e-mail adress - click edit and now insert your new me.com Apple ID. This will now be both your ID and primary e-mail address. This is where my knowledge (gleaned from this Forum) stops on this option - as unfortunately it did not apply to me. But I think it will get you where you want!
Hope all this info helps rather than hinders!! It definitely would have helped me
    Enjoy.

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

As I mentioned earlier, the main time when this becomes an issue is if you need to do something involving associating a computer with a particular AppleID.  Careful management of your collection should minimize this situation.
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627 -  In connection with, "When you turn on iTunes Match or Automatic Downloads, or when you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID." "Your Apple ID can have up to 10 devices and computers (combined) associated with it. Each computer must also be authorized using the same Apple ID. Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days." - Additionally instructions for "Removing an associated device or computer from an Apple ID"
So the first account is really "yours" and you are setting her up with her own account?  It helps to know this because if both are "hers" then there isn't an issue with her having full access to both accounts.  If in 10 years she moves 2000 miles away and she is pretty much independent then you may not want her to have full access to your AppleID just so she can authorize a device.

  • How can I set up a separate Apple account from my husband

MMy husband and I set up a joint Apple account years ago. Can he keep that account in tact and can I create a separate one? If so how do I do that?

    Jeremy,
Ten years ago I bought my wife an iPod and set up an iTunes account for her using my name based on the (erroneous) information given me by a salesperson that the name on the iPod and the name on the account had to match, and since I wanted to suprise her by setting it it with some preloaded things, I used my email address and my paypal account.  Fast forward 5000 apps later... I got tired of an email from iTunes for every purchase of every app, magazine, book, renewal ad infinitum, so I told her to log in to the only installed version of iTunes we had (on her computer) and to change the darn email to something else.
The problem that ensued raised its ugly head when many years later, she got a new iPad Air 2 and an iPhone.  Those she set up with her email address, the very same email address she changed the apple id to in iTunes several years ago.  Recently she contacted support because she was not able to log in.  First of all her password was too short (10 years old, nice and easy to remember) and secondly, the date of birth and secret question answer to the original apple id were unknown to her, since they were my credentials, not hers.
Both accounts were irretreveably linked in the most unimaginable ways, and the new password she created for herself on her new devices worked half the the time.
By resetting my password and changing the secret question and removing the billing info (which was my wife's credit card, not mine) I am fairly sure that the two accounts are separate.
The point of this is that it is essential to make sure the second account has NO items, including email addresses, secret questions etc. in common and I also suggest a separate credit card.
Here is the wierdest thing thus far - I am sending this from her computer it has the iTunes installation.  Logging in to her apple id, I see every single purchase "I" ever made prior to June of this year, and if I sign out of her apple id and in as mine there are NO purchases at all.  They all were migrated over.  I did not do this nor did I request it, but all the apps etc. now remain on her account, my account has nothing and I do not use my account at all since I have another one I had to create for my employer issued phone.
What one should not ever do is change the email address on an apple id without realizing that the id is also an email address and the email addressed it was changed to cannot be used to create a new separate account without a major headache.  And many calls to apple.
Hope this helps anyone trying to do this!

  • Need Advice in Purchasing my first Apple

I will be purchasing an IMac this weekend, but am still a bit unsure on which one to go with. This will be my first apple computer and I've spent a good part of this month researching on which type would best suit my needs. It comes down to the 20" IMac or the 24" IMac. I would be upgrading either one to the 500 Gig hard drive, adding the apple care plan, and purchasing a 4 GB's worth of RAM from crucial.com (far cheaper than what apple sells it for). If I went with the 24", I would probably choose the lower end of the two, but upgrade to the 2.8. I will primarily be doing screenwriting, light gaming, and heavy use with programs like Final Cut Pro and Photoshop. But these forums have made me very wary of the 24" with all the problems people seem to be having with driver issues, color distortion, pixel issues, and etc..? I have not seen many of those issues in these forums with the 20" model. Both computers seem to contain nearly the same processing power, and I am wary of the 500 dollar price difference amongst the two, if the more expensive one is going to be a huge headache. What should I do?

One of the lovely aspects before buying a new computer is deliberating the configuration that suits your needs best. I have a MacBook Pro myself and for my job I can use the new iMac 24" 2.8 4GB 1TB HD. It is a dream machine. We buy an Apple care protection with every new mac machine that the company buys and although we never had to make use of it just the reassurance "in case" is worth the investment. Reading your post you are about to spent some big bucks this weekend and whilst you're at it I would advise you to go all the way with it. What I mean is when you want the extra RAM, go for the Apple sets. When something goes wrong, and one of the problems you mention should happen, are more likely to get fixed quickly cause the knowledge is available and stand-by regarding Apple hardware. Third party hardware has it's own architecture that needs specific knowledge and insight allowing a swift and effective repair / trouble shooting solution. So whenever a problem occurs your return on investment may be much more worthwhile with regards to the money you saved on the purchasing of your machine and it's configuration.
The 20" is fine for FCP and other graphical programs, the 24" is "really neat".
Apple does some pretty good factory "pimping" whenever required

does a person have to have an iTunes account before they can set up their first iPhone?  I've had and apple ID for so long I don't remember the answer to this question. A friend asked me and I felt silly because I couldn't answer.

An AppleID is an iTunes account.

    Cara,
If those email addresses are already in use somewhere else, you can get new email addresses for your kids.  You can do this via your ISP, or by one of the free email services such as hotmail, yahoo, or gmail.

Hi guys this is my first apple script so tell me what you think
display dialog "Daily morning routine will now open"
say "Good morning I will now play your playlist,"
say "Ok now i will open up your wmail and look for new mail"
    open application "iTunes"
tell application "iTunes" to play library playlist
--Note: This tells itunes to play the library
    open application "Mail"
tell application "Mail" to check for new mail
--Note: This tells mail to open and check for new email
say "your new mail is waiting to be selected,"
--Note: This lets the user get an update on what the CPU is doing
say "I will now open up your weather, and trafic conditions,"

tell application "Safari" to open location "http://www.traffic.com"
say "once again please enter your zip code"

So far, so good, and welcome to AppleScript - you could save yourself a little typing by using a timeout with your first dialog and building the URLs with your zip code (I just looked at the URL bar):
display dialog "Daily morning routine will now open" giving up after 4
set ZipCode to "95014" -- change as needed
    open location "http://www.weather.com/weather/local/" & ZipCode & "?lswe=" & ZipCode & "&lwsa=WeatherLocalUndeclared&from=whatwhere"
    open location "http://my.traffic.com/Controller?appname=mytraffic&workflowname=routing&pointA=" & ZipCode & "&pointB=" & ZipCode

  • How to disable Apple ID/iCloud account access to file sharing on two Macs set up using one Apple ID account?

I've two Macs set up with my Apple ID. Now one of them is using other Apple ID but I can still access all it's files via file share using my old Apple ID the computer has be set up with. Is there a way to disable that "feature"? Thing to mention is that the other Apple ID is used in Store and in the accounts.

OK found the answer in anothe discussion thread. On iPad, delete existing account by going to settings-iCloud-and tap red delete account bar. Sign in with the Apple id you want to use. This worked for me this time. Even though when I first tried to set up the iCloud account, I got error messages and thus was forced into creating the new id.
    Anyhow, success.

  • Please explain me, how to remove an usb stick or memory chip? With experiences only in pc:s, I do not find on my first apple e.g. MacBook Air a solution. Until now I have succeeded to destroy one chip full of photos and - there's no life more in the port.

Please explain me, how to remove an usb stick or memory chip? With experiences only in pc:s, I do not find on my first apple e.g. MacBook Air a solution. Until now I have succeeded to destroy one chip full of photos and - there's no life more in the port...
Someone told me just to remove the chip in clicking it to the trash can and voilá - it would be done. But as I did so, on the screen appeared a text which let me know, that that way had been the wrong one...
I should have clicked Finder plus something.... which I do not now remember but which was then not found behind the Finder.
So please would someone be so kind and tell me, where I can find explanations for the most simple functions. The manual I got does not include a clue.
    Thank you!

First make sure that no application is using or has open any files on the disk. Then:
Click and drag the disk icon on the desktop to the trash. Wait for the system to recognize the action, and the icon should disappear from the desktop. It is then safe to remove the device.
Alternatively, you can secondary click on the disk icon, and then primary click "Eject (name of disk)". Wait for the icon to disappear off the desktop, and then it is safe to remove the drive.
Here is a detailed help document on the subject.

  • We have 2 iphone 4. Not upgraded to OSI5. We share the same Apple id to buy, etc. How can we set up the same Apple id but a diiferent icloud id and still see both iphones on find my iphone?

My wife and I both have iPhone 4 phones. Neither of them have been upgraded to OSI 5. We share the same Apple ID to buy things, etc. We are planning to buy an iphone 4s for our daughter next month. We would all like to share the same Apple id so that we can make purchases from the same account ... that way we only fund one account. We would like to upgrade to OSI 5 and keep/share the same Apple id but be able to set up different iCloud accounts for when we sync our phones. How can we do that? One other thing, we like being able to fine our locations on the same screen (and would add our daughter) using Find My Phone. Can we still do that? Thanks in advance for your help.

You could and should set up different iCloud accounts in "Settings > iCloud", so that every user has its own email account, calendars, reminders, notes, storage for backups and app data (files etc.), by the way everyone could also use his own account for iMessage (Settings > Messages > Send & Receive) and FaceTime (Settings > FaceTime) so that you all could write and call each other.
Next the Apple ID for music, apps and other media: You all could just set up the ssame Apple ID in "Settings > iTunes & App Stores" for all your media purchases like songs, movies, apps etc.

  • How do I get an iTunes gift redemption code to set up my new Apple ID?

I have set up a new Apple ID for my iPhone.  I don't have a credit card, so I was trying to use the iTunes gift a friend bought me as my payment method.  But every time I click on the link to redeem the code, it takes me to iTunes, which tells me I have to enter my information (including payment method) before I can use iTunes, so I can't ever see the code that was sent to me.  Is there another way to get that code?

Did you use the instructions on this page when you created the account : Create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card or other payment method ?
If you didn't then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store.
Have you tried to download a free app with the account ? If you are prompted to review the account when doing so then you could see if this post by mountaingoatgirl lets you do so without needing to enter credit card details : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24303054#24303054
And see if you can then download a free app.
Or create a new account, and use the instructions on the above link when doing so
