I'm so frustrated-Unable to download from ITunes and my entire library-GONE

Just upgraded last night and am so mad, my entire library is gone! I also am unable to preview/download anything from the ITunes Store. I can only play ITunes radio-anyone know what to do??????

Hopefully you did not do a clean install of OS X since that would erase everything on your drive. If you just did a standard upgrade install (which is the default option), you might be OK.
First, a question: Are your songs listed in iTunes but simply display the "!" next to them indicating that the files are missing? If so, and if you ripped the songs from CD, you can re-rip them and retain a lot of your tag data.
When you insert the CD and start importing it, iTunes will ask you if you want to replace the existing songs. Select the Replace Existing option and iTunes will transfer tag data (though sadly not play count or rating) from the original item to the new one without duplicating the entries. This is certainly time consuming but it's awesome that it preserves tag data.
If your library displays no songs at all, one of two things can be going on. Either the original library file is gone (which is the case if you did a clean install/erase of the new OS) or iTunes simply can't find it.
I suggest the following:
1) Open iTunes and determine where the active library is. You can find it under iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>General.
2) Search your computer for the files "iTunes Library" and "iTunes Library.xml".
If the only instance of those files is in the location indicated in iTunes, then you may be out of luck. Someone else may know of some way to recover the original but it doesn't look good. If, however, there is another instance of those files, close iTunes, then hold down the Option key and re-open iTunes. iTunes will prompt you to select a library. Select the second "iTunes Libary" file (the one not listed in iTunes) and see what happens. You may get lucky.
Also, if the actual music files are still on your computer, you may be able to import them again, though you will likely lose any tagging you did.
As for the the iTunes Store, perhaps this is elementary, but did you authorize the computer for iTunes purchases? if you are using a new Library file, you will need to do this again. In iTunes go to Store>Authorize Computer and enter you ITMS login information. Once authorized, try to open a purchased song.
I hope this helps! Good luck!

My MacBook Air is telling me that my startup disk is full so I am unable to download from iTunes. What can I do to fix this?

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • I installed iOS 5 on my iPad and unable to  Download from iTunes store

I installed iOS 5 on my iPad and unable to  Download from iTunes store

Hi all...I just got a solution to the problem. It's foolproof. Connect your iPad to your PC and re-install iOS 6. In case you would like to know how - Click on iPad in iTunes and then click on restore button. Then just follow the steps from there on. It worked for me. I know this is a "not-the-desired" solution, but it will fix your problem. For me it solved another problem - I had noticed a deterioration in speed when I had originally upgraded from 5 to 6. After doing this re-install, I can confirm, there is a noticeable difference in speed...across the board, including Siri responses. Thanks and best of luck.

  • I am trying to download from iTunes and when I clicked on the Sync button, it indicates that it is waiting to start and then says the sync failed.  what is the problem

Trying to download from iTunes and when I clicked on the Sync button, it indicates that it is waiting to sync.  Then it comes back saying sync failed.  What is the problem ?

    Few questions..
are you using windows or mac?
what version of itunes are you using?
have you EVER been able to successfully sync with itunes?
what iOS version are you running on your phone?
This is a great article for syncing with itunes. Good Luck

  • I'm downloading from Itunes and have come across error = 404 and 403. Anyone know what this is? Corrupted file maybe?

I'm downloading from Itunes and have come across error = 404 and 403. Anyone know what this is? Corrupted file maybe?

It means that iTunes looked for something on the iTunes Store servers and either it wasn't there(404) or the iTunes Store servers denied access to it(403). These can't be resolved at your end.

  • HT4847 how do i access movies I have downloaded from itunes and permanently erase them from my cloud?

how do i access movies I have downloaded from itunes and permanently erase them from my cloud?

    Hey okapi22,
Thanks for the question. Assuming you are attempting to clear up iCloud storage, it's important to note that iTunes purchases do not count against this storage. For more information, see the following:
Your iCloud storage is used for iCloud Backup, app data and documents stored in iCloud, and iCloud Mail (your @icloud.com email account).
iCloud: iCloud storage and backup overview
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12519
Additionally, you are not able to delete purchases from iTunes in the Cloud, but you are able to hide them.  Take a look at the following article:

  • Songs Unable To Download from iTunes to iPhone 4S

Everytime I attempt to download a song from itunes to my iphone 4S, it stops, goes straight to saying its done, then starts from the beginning again...how can I fix this? Sometimes when I buy and download a song it does download but, the songs that keep re-starting do not. They skip to the end then start from the beginning several times, then eventually just stop and say "Download Error". I had this problem once before but randomly it stopped and the songs with the problem downloaded. It randomly started again though now and I am not sure why. If anyone knows how I can fix this it would br great, TY^^!

Either the service did not install when you set up iTunes, or it has been stopped for some reason.  If you are using Win7, go to the start orb, click, type services at the bottom. Then look in the window that opens for the Apple service(s), and start them all.  Then reload iTunes and try again.  If you don't find an Apple service, then you will need to install iTunes again, and be sure it is the current (10.2) version.

  • The airplay icon has disappeared from my desk top. It was there two weeks ago, so I can't watch movies I've downloaded from iTunes and flick them over to my TV.

The airplay icon has disappeared from my MAC desktop. It was there two weeks ago when I successfully used it to 'flick a movie i had purchased from iTunes over to my tv. Also, if I rent the movie through iTunes, why (because of the above issue) when I go to 'Purchased' it doesn't display as an option when actually using Apple TV, it doesn't display but when I go to rent it again a message comes up saying "you have already rented this movie, do you want to rent it again"? Frustrated!!

Ok Fellas, let me give you a clue:  Games, particularly those that make heavy use of graphics and sound are notoriously power hungry.  In fact, when I was in the Navy many years ago, the folks working on the NTDS (Navy Tactical Data System)  computers used a version of Space Invaders to load test the AN/UYK-43 computers.
I have also noticed that all of my laptops (I have a brand new Toshiba dual core, an older Toshiba single core, plus 2 Dell dual core machines) have significantly shorter battery life when I play Company of Heroes than when I am just reading e-mail or surfing the 'Net.  I have also noticed the same behavior when I play games on my 4th gen Touch and my iPhone 4.
The fact is, iOS 5 did make some major improvements as well as adding some nice functionality like iMessage, wireless synch, and such, but the down side is that depending on how you use the device battery life can be shorter that what you may have experienced with pervious versions of iOS.  Its just the nature of the beast...
We now return you to our regularly scheduled programming.....

  • Error 50 when downloading from itunes and cant get purchases downloaded but i am charged for them

I used a redeem code and it downloaded the extras but the movie portion that appears to be a separate app states error-50 and will not download. I cannot delete the error file nor can I use the redeem code (one time use) to try downloading again.

Temporary fix:  I am having the same problem, have been for months.  I get sporadic results, sometimes I can download, sometimes not.  You need to delete the download from the Downloads section in iTunes, then find your Downloads folder under Users folder (a few folders deep) and delete the folder for the item that failed.  Then go back to iTunes and check for new downloads, which causes the download to start over.
Permanent fix: What I've come to understand is that iTunes does not like NTFS formatted hard drives.  I am downloading to a FAT32 formatted thumb drive and it is working flawlessly.  The way iTunes downloads a file is archaic to say the least.  It creates a file container the size of the file being downloaded, then downloads it in one long stream to the hard drive.  When the incompatibility arises with NTFS, the download fails and the files have to be deleted to start over.  In a day and age when we have p2p technology and Apple can't fix a simple download compatibility issue.  It's sad.  My advice... get an external hard drive, format it for FAT32 and redirect your downloads to that (under Edit, Preferences, Advanced).  You should be fine.

  • Just downloaded new itunes and now photos are gone and cant find photos on any menu

anyone have problems with new update and finding the section for photos-I lost all when did backup

*i still have EVERYTHING, including songs and videos in my other itunes library on my pc.*
Connect you iPod back to your old computer. Your iPod is set to sync automatically which is why you got the Erase and Sync message. You'll get that same message again when you link to the original computer. Choose Erase and Sync again and it will reload your library. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library. Change to this setting when you have reloaded your original library and you'll be able to use the iPod safely on the laptop:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • HT201272 Keep getting error #499 when trying to download a song from an album I purchased that failed to download.  Error message appears when trying to download from iTunes and the cloud. Re-starting the computer did not help.

I downloaded an album I purhcased a few days ago but one of the album's songs did not download.  I received an error message, #499, for which I can get no explanation or interpretation of what error #499 even is (other than generic terms).  All my efforts to re-start the download have failed.  I've tried several times to download the file to no avail, tried the cloud service to no avail, and re-started the computer to no avail.
My main intention is to, of course, get the download completed.  My secondary intention is to, hopefully, bring to the attention of Apple - iTunes staff, the grossly inadequate, dare I say cryptic, error message descriptions iTunes displays.
I can provide the purchase receipt number if it is required.

    Hey SDGardella,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are receiving error 499 when attempting to download purchases from the iTunes Store. The following resource outlines this error message:

    "Error 499"
This alert occurs due to security software. Follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.

  • HT201269 My PC crashed. iTunes was on it and now all files are gone. All music does exist on iPad. How do I get the music that had been downloaded from iTunes and copied from my CDs onto new PC from iPad. Would rather not use cloud.

PC crashed. iTunes was on it and now all files are gone. All music both purchased  and copied from CDs is on iPad. How do I get the music back onto the PC without using the cloud. Afraid if sync will wipe all music from iPad.

You would need to download iTunes on comp and download purchases again (you don't have to pay again) and upload your CDs again IF you sync your iPad to your computer it will erase everything

  • I have 6mins and 25 seconds of The Jane Austen Club left to download from iTunes and it won't download - I've watched it all up until then.  Why is it stuck!

Please help.  I want to finish watching it.  I only have a little bit left to watch.
I have ADSL and I have 50 GB so heaps of space.

Delete the references to them from the iTunes library and then either redownload them from the iTunes Store or use the Transfer Purchases function.

  • Ipod classic skips with songs downloaded from itunes and mp3's.

I have an ipod 120gb classic, I listen to it in my van through my alpine car stereo, i found that it would start to play songs and then skip to the next song in the playlist, i thought it may have been the cable for the stereo that was the problem, 2 month ago i changed the stereo and the cables and with the brand new stereo the ipod is still skipping through songs which leads me to believe that its an ipod issue and not my alpine, is there anyway to correct this, as it is very annoying, i bought the ipod to avoid having cds and damagings them now the ipod is doing what cds do, skipping tracks, and then ive noticed for such an expensive investment, apple has not been able to resolve the problem.

I need to know more specifics about your problem.
Are your songs ending earlier than expected and the play count incrementing? If you push the back button to play the song again, does it end at the same premature time? Can you scrub (push the center select button once and then scroll) to a point 60 seconds after the songs cuts off and hear the remainder of the song play? If you listen to the same song on your computer and it plays fine all the way through and all of the above applies, then the problem is that iTunes is omitting a small amount of data in the midst of the data stream as it transfers files to the iPod.
Uncheck the song(s) ending too early; sync; check the song(s) ending early; sync. iTunes will then send a new copy of each song to the iPod. If any song on the iPod isn't repaired after this (and the point where the song cuts off may change), then repeating the process for any song which didn't get repaired should work.

  • When downloading from itunes I am receiving an Unable to connect error -1202. I have contacted Itunes

I am unable to download from Itunes as receiving message - unable to contact Itunes store Error code -1202. Have had lengthy conversation with Itunes support but unable to resolve. Have uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes twice following exactly instructions provided. Anyu suggestions to resolve?

Maybe this will help. If you are running 10.9 you can access your use library by going to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.
