  • Why isn't Lee Greenwood's God Bless you Canada available in the Itunes? store?  It is the Canadian store afterall.  All of Justin Beiber's crap is on here and he screwed up his life!

I just want to know why Lee Greenwood's God bless Canada is not available in the the CANADIAN Itunes store?  All of Justin Beiber's crap is on here and he screwed his life.  His loser mother is making money off his sucess and wrote a trashy book.  To top that off, she had the nerve to sell it in CHRISTIAN book stores.  There is nothing CHRISTIAN about that book.  I have not read it myself but a good friend of mine has and she told me about it.  I was like WTH?

You would have to ask whomever owns the Canadian distribution rights to the song.
Itunes can only sell what the owners of the ditribution rights allow/provide them to sell.

  • Too stupid and/or lazy for anything but Arch?

Many times during the last 15 years, I made an effort to use GNU/Linux, mostly so-called "beginner-friendly" distributions, as my main operating system but never successfully. There were always some issues that I was too stupid or too lazy to understand and fix. So I kept using Windows and later on Mac OS X.
While still using Mac OS X, I inexplicably stumbled upon Arch some months ago and gave it a try. I followed the awesome Beginner's Guide to setup Arch on my notebook. For the first time there were no issues I could not resolve. Overall, it was beginner-friendly, transparent and fun. I have been using Arch as my sole operating system since then. Best computing experience ever.
Recently, I am becoming more and more interested in other GNU/Linux distributions and *BSDs. I tried to find a (desktop) system that:
    1) followed KISS,
    2) (easily) allowed a minimal installation,
    3) was documented for the stupid and/or lazy.
I looked at Debian but its init system scared me. I looked at Gentoo but its compiling scared me. I looked at Slackware but its documentation scared me.
I am wondering: Am I unfoundedly scared by either of these? Have I overlooked a system? Or am I just too stupid and/or lazy for anything but Arch?

it sounds to me like Arch is just the best fit for you
...and i can share my own perspective on the matter...
I've used many many distro's; gentoo (and a few derivatives), Fedora (and a few remixes), Ubuntu (and many of it's derivatives), puppy (and...same goes..), slackware, FreeBSD, PClinuxOS, debian (various versions), etc, etc....
i haven't found any distribution that i like better than Arch....and i do not 'distro-hop' anymore at all. there is absolutely no point for me to do so...
So I don't think you're too stupid or lazy for anything but Arch, it's quite the opposite... Arch is simple/easy to use, but does require the user to be somewhat competent, right? - i say this because things can break (although not too often), and the end-user has to be able to do things a little more hands on than some of the so-called 'user-friendly distro's'. we also all tend to be aware of where all config files are, how to edit them, where they are located, etc...the average archer knows the underlying system fairly well, i tend to think.
Arch also tends to offer some of the advantages of both meta/binary distributions; ie: ubuntu, fedora, etc....while also offering the advantages of source-based distributions; ie: gentoo, yoper, etc.  because it covers both types, you also do away with some of the disadvantages of both types; ie: compiling from source is more often than not as simple as using tools like 'yum' or 'apt-get' (which i suppose could be taken as laziness, but i tend to think it is just a better design), while in say Fedora or Ubuntu, there is more to do, to accomplish the exact same end-result... another example, we also don't have to sit around and wait for the whole system to compile on system upgrades (unless you choose too, using pacbuilder), this to me is a significant advantage over source-based distro's too....
I feel as an Archer i reap the benefits of all distros, in other ways too. for example, if i want some patch from Ubuntu, or say some software that is found in a PPA - usually i can find it in AUR. i need not bother with adding software sources, or any of that stuff, all i have to do is use 'yaourt -S *pkgname*'... the whole thing is automated, it grabs the source, builds it, installs it and i am done. easy peasy
then, there is the part, where using the kernel (with the patches i want), is much easier than say Fedora or Ubuntu, etc. I used to have to download and patch everything myself for the most part. but same goes as the example above - now all that it requires it 'yaourt -S *pkgname*'... which is much better, you want to use your applications, not spend your evening patching and compiling everything manually, when you don't have too - right?  I am a tinkerer, but i still try to take the most sensible approach, ya know...?
then, as someone else pointed out. We have some of the best documentation available in ArchWiki - this is why i switched to Arch in the first place. i had been using ArchWiki with other distributions for a long time. it got to the point, that i started to realize that maybe Arch as a better fit for me...and the wiki showed me some of the other advantages of using Arch over other distros...
anyway, that's my 2 cents on the matter
    cheerz

  • I did something stupid and afraid I invited virus or trojan HELP

Ok, I did something really stupid, and after a few hours of beating my head against the wall, I am reaching out here to see if anyone can calm my nerves.
I just purchased a Brother Printer and was having difficulty setting up the wireless connection. I googled "Brother printer customer service phone," and the top of the page it said, Brother Printers with a phone number. I called that number and the tech person said he needed to take control of my computer to see what drivers I needed (he comes Mr. Stupid...that would be me). The tech person directed me to download a program called Team Viewer, and after taking control, he opened the TERMINAL BASH window and pointed out to me the words, "CODE RED." He told me that I have a virus and that's why I could set up my printer wirelessly. He started telling me about a virus program, and it was at this point the my Mr. Stupid thought is this really the Brother Printer company. I hung up and called back the number 866-362-8280 and asked if they were Brother Printer. The person said they weren't that they do tech support for them and that this company is called, Alpha Systems. I looked up Alpha Systems phone number and they said that number is not there's. I called back that number and this time another person said that the name of the company was NBTECHERS. I asked if that person who took control of my computer did anything like plant a virus or create a way to see all my files, he said no (yea sure, the voice of truth?). I called Apple Care and they were terrific in helping out and walked me thorugh what Adware Medic would do automatically (my OS was too old for Adware to install) and removed all the TeamWare and everything else in the specific folders.
FINALLY, HERE IS MY QUESTION TO MY FELLOW MAC's and not as stupid as I am people:
Is there anyway other than the Adware Medic to check if there's anything this awful ripoff company did to my computer?

Unfortunately, after these scammers have had remote access, there is no way of being 100% sure that your computer is clean. AdwareMedic won't help with that, even if you were running a newer system. Neither will anti-virus software. Your system should be considered compromised at this point. You will need to erase the hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch. For instructions, see:
How to reinstall Mac OS X from scratch
(Fair disclosure: I may receive compensation from links to my sites, TheSafeMac.com and AdwareMedic.com.)

  • I feel stupid and frustrated

I have no idea what I did. Things were going fine and now I cannot get the email to work on my blackberry torch. I even went to the AT& T store for them to help.  An email was sent that instructed me on how to change my password.  It said that my user name was my email address but when I put that in as a user name, I keep getting a message saying that is incorrect as it is an internet name.  I really wish there were a LIVE person that could help me.

Hello and welcome to the forums!
I am a real live person (well my wife does have doubts.)  Let's see what we can do.
Is this an AT&T email address? Can you login via PC to the AT&T website where you get your email and is it valid? ? Did you delete the aborted setup on the Blackberry device? Unlike hand grenades and nuclear weapons you get another chance at this.

  • THAT IS STUPID AND CHILDISH

    Fix the fucking bug!
Do NOT delete the thread that does your job (Testing) for you. That is stupid and childish and solves nothing.
    Grow the fuck up please.
    Also from wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
testing : the act of subjecting to experimental test in order to determine how well something works
    and from www.ee.oulu.fi/research/ouspg/sage/glossary/
The purpose of testing is to discover errors.
    Okay?

    At any rate.
I quit again. I hope nothing bad happens to anyone but I wouldn't be surprised if it does. Sun is without doubt one of the most arrogant and stupid companies on the face of the earth.
They don't test. And deleting a thread where Hippolyte and Yawmark demonstrated that they did not actually fix anything is just continuing to bury their heads in the sand.
At this point all I will say is that I almost hope something bad does happen to someone because I believe at this point Sun is liable for damages. They have been clearly informed of the dangers of the flaws in this forum and are choosing to stifle commentary (good luck fuckers the internet is a large place), otherwise ignore and/or just plain out not fix it.
Anyway life is too short for this crap,

  • Drive Genius shows a streak of stupidity and screws up my hard drive

I tried defragging my hard drive (so I could install something in Boot Camp) with Drive Genius (from a 10.5 partition on my external drive), and suddenly it stops. I try again, not noting the error message, and I get:
FATALDISKERROR: Overlapped extents found (extent 2 overlaps extent 1 by 1189 blocks)
I have no idea what to make of this, and so I try everything in the repair section of the app. Repair and Rebuild only show:
    Repairing volume...
    Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checking Catalog file.
Incorrect block count for file iNode386845
(It should be 2 instead of 1)
Incorrect block count for file iNode386846
(It should be 1 instead of 3)
Incorrect block count for file iNode386850
(It should be 1 instead of 14)
    Invalid extent entry
    Invalid node structure
    Volume check failed.
Checking for errors in the extents map...
    Rebuild Failed.
I'm currently cloning my MacBook's internal drive to an image. Hopefully someone knows how to fix this mess.

Eh, crap. Forgot to close this thread.
Anyway, I was bored enough to outline this problem:
-Tried using Drive Genius to defrag internal drive, but it failed horribly somehow and caused many problems that started this horrible mess
-Used a Maintenance partition on external drive full of utilities and crap during this "incident"
-Disk Warrior fixed that, but moved files from their original spots to /Recovered Files, most of them are Xerox printer things located in /Library/Printers/Xerox; both those are deleted (Secure Empty Trash), will have to reinstall those
-AppCleaner complains about there not being a "/Library/Application Support/AppCleaner/AppCleaner Daemon" and doesn't let MB start up, making the directory and chmod 777-ing it, didn't do anything
-Backed up by CCC after all the above happened and before the reinstall and Drive Genius before all the above happened
-Tried reinstalling via upgrade method, didn't work so restored from backup
    -Tried Archive and Install, worked!
Now I've traded Macs with my brother and also upgraded the RAM on both. C'est nice!

  • I was stupid, and now Flash won't play (Mac)

I have a problem — due mostly to my own stupidity, I think.
A couple of days ago I was visiting MacUpdate and spied a listing for Adobe Flash Player 10.2.161.22. It didn’t say, at the time, that this was a beta release. Anyway, since several sites had suggested that I needed the latest Flash Player to view their content, I downloaded and installed it: that was my first mistake.
Once installed, all the graphics in both browsers (Firefox and Safari) went nutty: nothing would display properly. Thinking that I could just install the previous version, I downloaded that from Adobe. Well, that couldn’t be installed, because a newer version was in place.
Okay, I thought, I’ll just throw away the Adobe Flash Player and re-install. What I did, was to go to my folder Internet Plugins and throw away the Flash Player and the other file in there: that was my second big mistake. I then installed Flash player 10.1, but all my sites were now telling me that I had no Flash player installed. Just to make sure, I tried reinstalling several times: didn’t work.
I suspect that the second file (whose name I can’t remember) that I threw away in my Internet Plugins folder just might have been important. Can anyone help? Any advise would be really, really appreciated. How do I fix this mess?
I’m on a Power Mac G5, dual two-gig, 6 GB ram, running system 10.4.11 (32 bit), with the latest versions of Firefox and Safari.
    Thanks,
    Bob Dawson

Hi, Well Bob, that is certainly good news!!
You did very well, glad it is working for you. That was tricky, getting all those ducks back in their row:-)
You might try www.ESPN3.com. If you have any problems read the system requirements and especially the FAQ part.
Thanks for posting the steps you took. Hope you didn't have a difficult time following the procedures on the Uninstall or Install sites.
No more betas for you!! LOL,

  • HT5052 How can I get ios 5 for my iPod Touch without downloading iTunes 11? iTunes 10 and above screw up .mov readibility in Final Cut Pro, so I do not want to update iTunes.

Any iTunes above 10 will screw up .mov accessibility in FCP, so I do not want to download iTunes 11 just to get this iPod Touch updated to 5 or 6.
Can I download the update some other way?

If you have a 4G iPod (one with cameras) you can only go to iOS 6.2.1 and that requires iTunes 10.7 or above.
If you have a 3G you can go to 5.5.1 with iTunes 10.5 or later.
    A 2G can only go to 4.2.1

you can update on another computer with the right version of iTunes but you will not be able to sync with your computer unless you update iTunes on your computer.

When I installed Firefox on my new computer, it came with a new thing called incredimail and My Start. It screwed up everything, making it impossible to restore my settings. After uninstalling Incredimail (free) on my laptop, I also couldn't get rid of the MyStart search option. Waste many hours. Easy answer... Firefox home page... • ITunes Library out of whack - I was stupid and need help...

OK, so I keep my iTunes collection on an external drive (just won't fit on my 512GB SSD right now) and I have Windows 7 installed under Parallels Desktop.
I stupidly downloaded iTunes for Windows and pointed it toward my iTunes library on my external drive - and now the library on the Mac side is FUBARed.
I can manually find songs and iTunes asks, politely, if I would like for it to search for other items as well and when I click "Yes" (or OK or whatever) iTunes justs stops responding and I get a spinning beachball and I have to force quit the application.
Can anyone guide me through getting my iTunes library married to my Mac again? I had no problem moving it to an external drive - just followed the instructions, but now it looks as if I'm just out of luck...
    ...so what should I do?
    Clinton

I'd try the "Add to Library" option under the File menu.  I'd try it on a single artist first to make sure I didn't get a whole bunch of duplicates.  And, if I didn't (and I don't expect you will), then I'd just add the rest to the library.
Before doing all that, though, you might want to try the steps here:

  • ITunes screws up sort order and randomly screws up volume level

I'm really starting to regret replacing my 5g video with the classic. The video out issue is one problem, but my biggest issue is my Media Monkey isn't compatible and I had to go back to iTunes. First off I hate using iTunes to manage content. The format *****. But a bigger issue is why does having info in the id3 tag that has nothing to do with the track order of an album screw up the order? I shouldn't have to delete fields like "Album Artist" to get things to sort correctly. Track number should be the ONLY criteria for sorting tracks in an album. The second issue is, I've had problems witrh not being able to hear tracks, no volume. When I check in iTunes it has somehow adjusted the volume to zero for those tracks! I'll be happy when MM updates their software to work with the classic.
