If you are running Windows and it stops on the first stage of a sync then my suggestion is to uninstall AppleDeviceSupport version 2.0.1 and re-install 1.5.2.

Those instructions are to fix a different problem, but it fixes the problem with syncing devices stopping on the first stage (backing up the device) too. The AppleDeviceSupport 2.0.1 comes with Quicktime 7.7 and, I believe, the latest Safari version.
I'm running XP, so used the Everything search program (http://www.voidtools.com/download.php) to find the directories with the AppleDeviceSupport installers (they have the extension .msi and the version in the directory name) and right-mouse-buttoned them to do the uninstall and install. Note you need a reboot afterwards. (Actually I just sorted out the service in the Service Manager, but that's a longer explaination and a reboot works fine).

Sync between iphone and itunes hangs

lately when i sync my iphone with itunes - itunes will hang
it will show sync in progress on the phone and the progress bar at the top of itunes will stop about 3/4's of the way thru

I work at ESPN and just wanted to chime in. We noticed this bug and have already submitted a fix to Apple. We're working with them to get it out asap.
The way scorecenter works has triggered a bug in iTunes itself that Apple is working on separately. Our workaround fix should be available in a few days, tops.

Ringtones Sync between iPhone and ITunes

Dear All,
After the update from IOS 4.3.5 to IOS 5, for some reason I "lost" my ringtones...I bought AGAIN some of them, but now, I continue to have an error, because when I try to sync the iPhone with the iTunes, don't allow me to update the ringtones, which I have in my library to my iPhone.
I have in my library 21 ringtones, and appear in my iPhone 23 ringtones, which one of them appear 3 times!!!! The same ringtone appear in the iPhone 3 times!!!
I already went into iTunes and and uncheck the ringtones, Then sync it again. After the ringtones "apparently" should be off of my phone (which dont' happen), then check the Ringtone box again and sync the phone again, and should appear the same ringtones in the iTunes and in the iPhone, but unfortunatelly don't happen!!!
I would like if you have seen something similar and how I can do or if I am made some mistake.
I appreciate very much your help.

I just got a brand new iphone 4, and itunes says it cannot read the contents of the iphone, please restore..

That's usually trouble with the Segoe UI fonts on your system. If you're running XP or Vista, Vortical's procedure in the following post usually fixes things:

Help, my lappy crashed and I can't sync my iPhone and iTunes

Recently my laptop crashed and I had to reformat it. Now when I plug in my iPhone, I think I am going to lose all my mp3s in the iPhone. I don't want to lose the music because I hadn't got the chance to back up the music on my iTunes before it crashed.
Therefore, the music are all inside my iPhone now. How do I re-copy it back into my laptop from my iPhone?
I noticed it is the same for my ringtone, wallpaper and applications as well. I tried to back-up the phone but I dont see the music in my iTunes after I done the back up.
Also, iTunes recognize that this laptop is still authorized.

If you didn't have a backup of your iTunes library, despite all of iTunes warnings that you should back up, you are out of luck for all content that was not purchased from the iTunes store. For purchased content you can use iTunes to recover it from the iPhone. Disable automatic syncing in iTunes, then connect the phone. On the File menu choose "Transfer purchases from <your iPhone's name">. There may be other ways to recover the remaining tracks using unofficial applications. Google is your friend.

If i don't have the computer i set up itunes on and i need to back up my iphone and itunes says i have five computers already authorized (which i can't believe we had five before) how can i deactivate an old one so we can access it now

we have an iphone 4s. It needs to reset as the vibration has stopped. We have a new computer that does not have itunes. It will not allow us to set it up as it says we have five other computers we have set it up with ( i dont think we have owned that many ) but we dont have them anymore. How can we delete or gain access now from the new computer. Is it counting the five as we have ipods that have access. Any help would be welcomed. The phone is only a few months old.

If you no longer have, or access to, the computer(s) you want to deauthorise,
Log in to iTunes, go to "view your account info" on the itunes store, deauthorise all five, (Please Note: this can only be done Once every 12 months) and then re-authorize your current Computer(s) one at a time.

The new iTunes has a somewhat different look from the previous version. You can get the old look back if you prefer it by doing View > Show Sidebar in iTunes. Or you can adapt to the new look.

Application sync between iphone and itunes

Hi,
created an apple account. Downloaded my first free app. Tried to sync it with my iphone. Told me I needed to authorize the computer, which I did.
Now when I try to think my iphone app from itunes it tells me that the computer is not authorized and propose to authorize it. If I do so it tells me that the computer is already authorized. I removed the computer authorization and tried again from scratch with no success. It won't think my app with the iphone. I read the sync topic on apple support but that didn't help. Don't know what to do. If anyone has an idea I would be grateful.
I use itunes ver 9.0.2.25 and iphone ver 3.1.2 (on iphone 3G).

Ok, it appears that your authorizations are messed up between your computer & phone. Let's try starting over from the beginning.
Launch itunes, do not connect your phone, delete the app from your applications folder. Next, since your on windows, go up to Edit > Preferences > Syncing Tab> Reset Sync History. Next, under that same preferences tab, check "parental" & make sure there are no restrictions. Once done, reboot your computer. After the reboot, launch itunes, re-download that same app, pay attention to the popup that appears, it will have your apple ID & a blank spot for your password. Enter your password. Now, go to your phone, check Settings>Store, make sure you are signed in, if you are, you'll see your apple ID(email address) & a button labled "Sign Out". Make sure this ID matches the same ID you used to purchase the app. If you're not signed in, sign in. Then, reset your phone: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo(ignor the slide to power off). Once complete, check again to make sure you're still signed in to your itunes account. Next check: Settings>General>Restrictions, make sure you see "off" next to restrictions.
Now, connect your phone with itunes running, make sure there is a check in the box next to the application you want on your phone. Hit apply & sync. See if this fixes the issue.

I tried to restore my iPhone 3G and I get a message that I am not connected to the internet but, I can barouse on the internet with my search engins.

It's hard to tell what password you are referring to. But my guess is you are being asked for the password to the iPhone's backup you created in iTunes. It sounds like you chose to encrypt the backup.
If that is the case, the following applies:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

HT1386 Auto sync between iPhone and iTunes won't turn off

Somehow my iPhone still starts to autosync with itunes on connecting, despite the option 'Prevent iPhones etc from autosyncing' in Preferences being checked (and saved!). Highly annoying. Why does it ignore this setting and how can I REALLY turn it off?

When that happens you have to have iTunes restore the device.
