How easy is it to install?

Fairly easy to install. You need to connect the box to your hub and to an aerial and off you go. If the box isn't in the same room as your hub BT will supply a pair of Poweline adapters which use your mains as an ethernet (must be on the same ring main). To be honest, if it's practical to do without those and use an ethernet cable instead, do.
It will work with your DVD recorder, no problem. Connect via SCART. This will give you the ability to backup recordings on the Vbox.
Vision is Freeview with the ability to record. It has 2 tuners which means 2 programmes can be recorded simultaneously and you can watch a recorded programme while they're doing it if you want. For broadcast services you can also add Sky sports 1 and/or 2 (for a fee) and ESPN. You can do most of the stuff you mention like pause and rewind live TV, but there is no editing facility. In addition it is able to stream on demand programming through broadband from a library - This is the bit you really pay for when you subscribe. You can watch on demand while recording Freeview if you wish.
It will not work without BT broadband.

DO NOT GET BT VISION: V04 ERROR
Let this be a warning to anyone thinking of getting BT Vision or any other BT product.
I ordered BT Vision to go with the BT Infinity installed the previous week. The box duly came on the activation day (Friday). Unfortunately I was getting the V04 error from the off. However I thought it might take till midnight for everything to be active so I waited till the next day. Sadly it was still not working so I did all the things recommended on the BT support website to no avail. This was with both the Home Hub 3 and my Apple Time Capsule (which I had been using fine with the Infinity Modem). I had also run the BT Speedtest checker and was getting download of 35Mbps and upload of 8Mbps.
I rang BT Vision support to be told to do the same things I had already done. I was told it had been escalated and to expect a call back by midday. By 6pm I had still not received a call back so rang again and waited 15-20 minutes just to speak to someone. I was told that it was a broadband fault and that BT Wholesale would need to look at and I would get a ringback between 8-11am today. This window passed so I have rung BT Vision support again who took 30 minutes to answer then put me through to BT Broadband support who have told me there is no problem and now my call has exceeded 1 hour I am now in a queue to speak to BT Vision support again.
While I have no problem with things being faulty I do have a problem when I am repeated promised things that do not happen and then passed around departments, who are passing the buck, and don't know their backside from their elbow.
I was really reticent about going back to BT but Infinity is the only way to get a reasonable broadband speed in my area. Don't make the same mistake I have.Evil_Dan wrote:

Try watching an On demand title, stop it, wait a few mins and then run another test
You're looking for Assured rate test - if it isn't there, then chances are BT have forgotten to enable it - it's needed for Vision to work

My house has always had macs and my parents don't like pcs. I don't either. They are slow and so far behind from macs. So i am going into high schoo next year and parents don't let me on the computer without asking and have them all password protected. I did have my own ibook g4 but it broke randomly. My mom says i will isolate myself from too much scree time and get depressed but i love macs and i would like to work in an apple store someday but i'm not even allowed to buy my own ipod touch with my own money. But my mom has an new imac, ipad and iphone and ipod and all of this has been gifts to her. But i really need a computer for school. I have written lists of good reasons not like i want it but good ones and asked nicely but my mom just says because and thats the only reason i need to know. and by the way she is a teacher so she thinks technogly is evil. How can i get the mac air??
I really do not want to enter a family discussion about what you should or should not have. If the MBA is to support your school work then you need to present your arguments on that point. If there is a concern about using a Mac when the school supports PCs then point out a Mac can also use Windows on a BootCamp partition so it is fully compatible with both systems.

Alot depends on your current network.
TC is for Time Machine.. and the easiest to use is external drive.. the next easiest is TC.
Overall it is not hard but you need to tell us your current network setup.. existing routers and type of broadband. There are some setups that are poor eg wireless connection.. it is really much better for TC to act as main router.. plugged into modem by ethernet or in bridge plugged into the main router by ethernet.
What do you want TC for??
If you want anything other than TM don't.. it is not a NAS and has too many issues.
If you want it for TM.. tell us your current network. -
Thinking of ditching BT Vision
Ok, been a love hate relationship with the BT vision box, reboots lockups and remotes locking up as well. However a reset fixes most of these. However went to try and watch some catch up TV on the ITV player and it was woefull my program was not there also 4oD had missing programs which were all to see via the laptop. So is this just a BT vision limitation or not of there doing. Quite frankly its a poor show.
Now another limitation in all of this is the recording and watching TV at the same time, its limited to two channels, my last PVR I could record on two and watch a third. Its taking me a year to notice alot of the limitations but fear things will be backward on this format and thus looking to move to Youview. Is it any better ? I have TV essentials for the Eurosport channels in all honesty along with BT sport in HD, now I would not be averse to taking on the HD bolt on for £3 to get all the extra channels in HD. IS this all possible on Youview ? Not interested in SKY etc which I believe is not an option with youview anyway. In summary am i wasting more money or are there better options, is the Youview box a better beast ? Quite like the fact that you can access it remotely via an app as well.yer my PVR was a Humax it also had is faults but was not a bad machine. In hindsight I should of waited last year but rushed into getting the vision + box and Eurosport for the Cycling Don`t think this was an option on Youview at the time. Going to contact BT as just did the upgrade TV thing and they want £199 for the new Youview box!!

I'm currently with Sky paying over £40pcm. Half of the stations I get I never watch. Due to losing my job I need to make cutbacks so I'm looking to see what other TV packages are out there. Sky can give me the basic package for £20.00. Somebody I used to work with has BT Vision and says its as good as Sky. However after reading through the forums I have my doubts. Can anyone give me some clear advice?
Plus Can I use my Sky dish to get BT Vision ? I don't have a roof top ariel and can't really afford a new ariel.

The indoor aerial may be OK if you live in a strong signal area (cloae to the transmitter) but in my experience it is unlikely to give satisfactory reception
the aerial in the roof could be used assuming it is still in a sound condition. The best way to extend the cable would be to terminate the cable where it enters the room and connect this to a distribution/booster amplifier then take a cable from there to the room with the TV.
The on demand part of the service ( subscription part ) comes via your broadband connection so a cable to your homehub is required or using the powerline/homeplug adapters which are supplied with the box.

I'm hoping we get overnight shipping for the HTC Trophy. Looking at their website, quite a few of their newer phones come with free overnight shipping. If you do order on Thursday and it is 2-day shipping, in theory you might be able to get it Saturday. I'm really hoping for overnight. I'm going to be going out of town this coming weekend. Either way though, I'm going to have it shipped to my work so I don't have to worry about a signature or it being left outside. -
My iTunes account is hooked to my debit card and I have thousands of dollars per day coming out of my bank account. I emailed apple several times to get a history so I can find out what the heck is going on and each time I get a generic message followed by a email with a bunch of links telling me how to access my iTunes history. I attempt to do this and I get a message stating iTunes can not be reached. So I go down to my local apple store and am told it's because I did not have wifi, they hook my phone to the apple store wifi and tell me they show no charges. Yet I'm down approximately $12,000 so far and climbing. I call my bank and cancel my debit card and attempt to contact apple again via a link they sent me to schedule a call. When I schedule the call it gives me a message that we are sorry we are unable to schedule a call for you please try again later, I try a future time and date and manage to schedule a telephone call for the second of next year. Is there anyway to access what the **** is going on with my iTunes account in the meantime? Apple doesn't seem to be able to see the charges I just see them on my bank side.
And help is appreciated.hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

Thinking to get FIOS. Need Info on DVR
I have been renting a TiVo Premium with my RCN cable tv service. I am leaving RCN and thinking to get FIOS which is finally available in my neighborhood. But I love the TiVo. Anyone has any hand-on experience wth Verizon's DVR?
In particular, I am most concern with 3 things:
1 With the TiVo, using their software I can transfer recorded shows to my PC. Can the Verizon DVR do that?
2 The RCN TiVo has 2 turners, so I can record 2 different shows at the same time. I chat online with the Verizon sales people, they say all their DVR's are single turner but then they said I can "watch one show while recording another. It even allows for recording two shows while watching a previously recorded show." I asked him how that's possible with only 1 turner in the box but they didn't know the answer.
3 Can I expand the capacity with an external hard drive?

Question 1: No, not directly. You can however copy material recorded on the DVD in real time to another recording device (e.g., a DVD-R device).
Question 2. The VZ DVRs also have 2 tuners, not one. They operate in the same way as the TiVo you described.
Question 3. The latest VZ DVR units support an eSata external drive (evidently 2 TB max). -
I am having troubles, when I open LR I get a message that there is an error and it will try to fix the error next time it opens. LR closes on it's own, I reopen it and get that same message next time it opens, and this is going on and on where I can not use LR, any suggestions? If I click on a different set of photos in the libary before I get that message I might or might not get the message next time it oipens, but I still can not get to those photos, and it is not just one or two but most of my photos. HELP!!!!

CarolThe first thing I would suggest is for you to go to the folder containing your catalog, using your system browser. There will be a folder that has the extension .lrdata. Delete that folder, and then try to start Lightroom. If that doesn't work, replace your catalog with your most recent backup.

Yes. I use the same Apple ID on four different iDevices. You can sync the contacts with iCloud or with your computer and have them on both devices. You can sync all of the apps as well. If the apps are not in iTunes on your computer - you can download them to the iPad with the same Apple ID. You can also restore the iPad from a backup of the phone to transfer your settings, app data and your contacts.
iPhone only apps will be half size on the iPad screen but will still work as long - you can enlarge the size of the apps - but they will be pixelated on the screen. -

Computer shuts down when iPhone 3gs is conected
