Numbers is a joke compared to Excel. If I were you I would find a class/tutorial first, find out what they use (and it won't be Numbers) and see if you need the Mac or Windows version of Excel. Note that Excel is not sold as a seperate product from the Microsoft Office suites.

I have a Dell monitor ST2210, which I want to connect to my new Macbookair, what software and drivers do I need to use?

    Mar14Apple,
which resolution are you using when you use your monitor? Is that resolution supported through the monitor’s VGA port? (You’d probably have better throughput by using an adapter for the HDMI port or DVI port instead.) When you say that the trackpad doesn’t work, does that mean that the cursor is not visible on the monitor, or that it physically does not work, such that clicks are not registered, &c.?

  • Exactly what cables and hardware do I need to connect my early-2008 MacBook Pro to a flat-screen TV monitor to have both video and audio?

    Hello--
I'm trying to figure out how to connect my 15" MacPro Book from early 2008 to a Sony flat screen TV monitor. I've been told I need a "Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter" and a "HDMI to HDMI" cable, but I've also been reading that some cables only work with 2010 & 2011 laptops and that I may need additional cable/hardware to obtain audio. Could someone advise me on exactly what products I need to purchase?
    Thank you!

Which MacBook Pro 15" do you have?
With the silver keyboard (Early 2008)) or that one with a black keyboard (Late 2008)?
If you habe the Late 2008 you can use a miniDisplay Port + Audio to HDMI like that one (stereo sound) or that one (5.1).
If you have the Early 2008, it's not so easy, because you need a DVI + Audio to HDMI like that one (the Audio Channels had to be converted to Coaxial!) So much more adapters! Maybe there is a manufaturer which has the all in one solution)
Both MacBook Pro DOESN'T support audio on the video output! The later ones (Mid 2010 and later) supports Audio output within the miniDisplay Port.

  • What Is, And Why do I need it: ExpressCard/34 Slot?

In the very near future I will be obtaining a 17" MBP. That's just savvy, except for one minor detail. What is an ExpressCard/34 slot, why do I need one, why would it have been included in this particular size MBP and what can I shove in there?

The expresscard slot is for expansion purposes. it allows a low cost esata connection to your macbook pro. you can plug an esata adapter in and then use one of many external esata enclosures. "apiotek ec-0003d" costs about 40 bucks and will let you add 2 non-bootable external esata enclosures then can run at 3Gbps. fw800 runs at 800Mbps..
"OWC esatat sata expressCard/34Adapter" bootable 1 esata adapter is 19 bucks it will let you add 1 esata enclosure at speeds up to 3Gbps.
so if you get the non bootable one you can add 2 enclosures like "sans digital towerStor Ts2ct". that would be up to 4Tb for each one total of 8tb far faster then fire wire. if you get the bootable 1 esata type you could add 1 external at 4tb. this lets you macbook pro boot from a 4tb external at internal speeds. kind of gives you the ability to make you laptop a real desk top when you want it to be that. Then back to a real lap top by unplugging it. Not trying to sell any of the above items I just happen to use them.
This option was pulled from iMac's a real drag as iMacs could use more fast enclosures.

  • What SW and/or Drivers are needed to use my Samsung DVD+/-RW Imagewriter

Fresh install of OSX 10.3.9 on a PowerMac G4.
    Added a Samsung SH-W162C 16x DVD±RW IDE Internal Drive.
I then installed the LaCie DiscRecording 1.21 drivers and the the following patch: LaCie DiscRecording Support 1.22 for Mac OS X 10.3.2 or later.
I then tried to burn an iMovie from iDVD and got the dreaded multiplex error.
Here is my question: Do I need to install Toast in order to burn DVDs or should OSX 10.3.9 allow me to burn DVDs from iDVD without Toast?

    Have you installed Patchburn?
    http://www.patchburn.de/
It might be the same thing as the LaCie "driver" but there is no real "driver". It is built into X and the X applications. Patchburn makes your mac think that just about any burner is an Apple branded Superburner. I don't know what the LaCie "driver" does.
Dual layer support will require Toast or Tiger. Panther does not have dual layer support. But if all you want to do is use imovie and single layer then you don't need Toast.

  • What app and settings do I need for using VPN access

Will I find the app I need to install in the App Store and what are the settings for configuring a vpn

Depends. If you are downloading an app dedicated to VPN connectivity, you would need to consult the vendor. To simply connect via VPN natively:
Settings App > General > VPN > Add VPN configuration (and of course turn VPN ON).

  • 2960 - What GBIC and IOS Version is needed?

I have a Cisco 2960 (WS-C2960-24TC-L) and I am bringing in a 1000base-t metro-e and I need an optical connection to my switch. It's running Cisco IOS Software, C2960 Software (C2960-LANBASE-M), Version 12.2(25)SEE1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
What GBIC do I need? Will the current IOS support it?
I found the following on Cisco's site, but can't really make heads or tails of it.
    WS-C2960-24TC-L
    WS-C2960G-24TC-L
    WS-C2960-48TC-L
    GLC-T (1000BASE-T)
    GLC-SX-MM
    GLC-LH-SM
    GLC-ZX-SM
    GLC-BX-D
    GLC-BX-U
    CWDM SFP
    Not supported
    12.2(25)FX

In that case you need GLC-SX-MM for your switch if your fibre optic cable from their equipment to your switch doesn't exceed 100 metres.

  • I am behind a Cisco PIX Firewall. What addresses and ports do I need to permit through to allow Firefox updates?

I want to be able to upgrade my Firefox installations that are located behind a Cisco PIX Firewall. What are the TCP/IP addresses and ports required to be opened for updating to occur?

This is less likely to be a firefox problem, as it appears something bad has happened to your network. Can you access the internet with other programs? Try email/ IRC/ Skype or even updating your computer.
What operating system are you using?
    Ian.

  • What leads and/or software is needed

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch (2011 edition) and a Fender P-Bass, and am looking to use my bass to make recordings in GarageBand. I'm a Mac newbie, so dont know whether i'd need to get a usb/guitar jack to use, or is there another lead/cable that I need to connect it?
Also, I'm aware you can get tuning apps for guitar, but do you need something to emulate a rig?
    Thanks
    Andy

  • My Macbook Pro would essentially make 3D models and documentaries. What hardware and software do I need?

This would be the first time I would be using a MacBook.
I am familiar with the basics of a Mac, but am not with accessories and real-time necessities to get my home studio up and running.

Try cpio -id < archive.cpio in the Terminal.

When travelling from US to UK and France what do I need to charge macbook and iPhone?

Just a pin converter and your Apple US Power adapters (100-240v 50/60Hz)
The European sockets take 2 x round pins, adapter available from  in most drug stores carrying travel aids as is the UK pin converter.
UK is heavier 3 x rectangular pins

  • I unplugged the power adaptor and suddenly, my mac started beeping repeatedly like an alarm. What does this mean?

I unplugged the power adaptor and suddenly, my mac started beeping repeatedly like an alarm. My mac was fully charged and would not start up. I pressed down on the restart button to reboot it and the noise stopped.
    What does this mean?

Hi, it indicates a RAM problem, (or Logic Board around the RAM).
The power on self-test resides in the ROM of the computer. This test runs whenever the computer is turned on after being fully shut down (the power-on self-test does not run if the computer is only restarted).
If a fault is detected during the test, you will not hear a normal startup chime. Instead, the system will beep as explained below. If you experience one of these beeps, you may call your Apple Authorized Service Provider for additional troubleshooting assistance.
1 beep  = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.
