I'm trying to burn a 6.75GB video file onto an 8.5GB blank DVD+RDL disc and being told the disc is too small. Why?

This occurs whether I use an alias or the original file to burn the disc, and whether I use a burn file or try to burn directly to disc from the Finder.
I get the same result on both my MacBookPro and my MacBook Air, each running Snow Leopard OS 10.6.8. Each has about 100GB of free space on its HD/SSD. Also with two brands of discs, Memorex and Verbatim.
Several months ago, I replicated the same video file on an 8.5GB DVD+RDL disc using the MBP, with no problem. Now this.
The only thing new is a reinstall of SL 10.6.8 I did on my Air after tiring of Lion's inadequacies. But the MBP has only run Snow Leopard, never Lion. I wouldn't think that would make a difference.

It does, but that's definitely strange. Try showing all hidden files and folders on your Mac to see if that helps.
To do this, head to Applications -> Utilties -> Terminal and type:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE -> Press Enter
killall Finder -> Press Enter
Then navigate out to your iPod again via the Finder. Any luck now?

You can "see" the iPhoto library in Time Machine backups, but you cannot "open" the library or "browse" the contents while you are in Time Machine.
Apple makes you restore the entire iPhoto library to another destination...like your desktop....if you want to retrieve a few older images that you may have deleted by mistake.
This is a convoluted mess, but unfortunately, that is the way it is.

what do you have? Version of iPhoto? Of the OS? How is the passport connected to your Mac? What format is the passport (for the iphoto library it must be Mac OS extended (journaled) )? The iPhoto library is not and can not be on the cloud (maybe later with the Photos Application)

I may be able to help you .
If you backed up your iPod prior to it being locked you may be in luck.
1. Hook it up to your Mac or PC
2.Open iTunes
3.Click on your iPod (on the left hand side somewhere)
4.Click on restore (in the centre somewhere)
5.follow the onscreen instructions
Once you have restored the device there should be an option that says restore from back up.
Click on that.
Hopefully this works. If it doesn't please let me no.

Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Burning audio only from video files

Hi,
I'm trying to burn podcasts of one of my classes onto CDs (iPod is out of service, final is coming up, want to listen to them while driving), but they're video files. Is there a way within iTunes to extract the audio and burn only that? Should I use an outside program?

Nevermind, I just used garageband.

Itunes keeps telling me "the registry setting for importing and exporting and burning cds are missing" reinstall itunes. I have reinstalled itunes about 30 times and still get the same message. I do not have another cd burning software loan

The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.

this could mean:
laser dirty - some people recommend 'cleaning disks', some say this would kill a drive finally
or,
your kind of disk brand isn't 'first choice' for your kind of drive.
best track record on Apple drives: Verbatim or Taijo Yuden (hard to get outside Japan)
or,
you did try to use DVD-Rom disks, instead of dvd-r/dvd+r

I made a imovie out of a group of photos and added music. When I burned to DVD on iDVD and played back the disc all of the photos were larger than the frame could accommodate and the sides were cut off. I also tried resizing from 16 9 to 4 3 and no better

What do the photos look like if you play the movie within iMovie? Sounds like adjusting Ken Burns would help.
