I'm trying to choose between....

the 13" i5 with 8gb ram or the 13" i7 with 4 gbs of ram. I'm getting the 128 gb ssd on whichever one I get. I'm a student and i do a little video editing with FCPX and iMovie. I don't game. Thanks

My advice is to get the 2.2 Ghz 15" or better. Even if you don't game.
Your using FCP, that's a "pro level" piece of software, your going to need a LOT more graphic performance and drive space than the poor integrated graphics and 128GB for your video needs.
You need either the 500GB 7,200 RPM (preferred) or the stock 750GB 5,400 (if your on battery most of the time) is more suited to video.
SSD is fast, but has limited writes and terribly expensive in higher capacities. however later on you can choose to switch it out as the prices come down and technology improves.
Now some swtich out their Superdrive for another hard drive, problem with this is you have to use a external case to hold and use the Sueperdrive, can't c boot from the installer disks or install Windows if you should need too.
The new MacBook Pro can hold up to a whopping 16GB of RAM (currently $1500 at OWC) so that's a plus, but the 13" has poor integrated graphics which score a measly 11 on the OpenGL tests.
The 2.0 15" scores 18 and the 2.3 Ghz 15" scores 30.
So to "future proof" it's better to get the workhorse machine as it's more adaptable and lasts longer through software upgrades and updates.
You don't save money replacing your machine more often, and usually when you buy a new machine you'll have to buy updated versions of your software too. So that's more money lost.
I also advise getting the high res & anti-glare screen. For laptops this is almost a must as you can use the computer in changing environments, class to class, outside etc. without always futzing to get around the reflections on the screen.

Trying to choose between 2013 MBA,MBP 13'' and new 2013 MBP retina 13''

Hello everyone:) im new here to apple discussions. Basically i would like to ask which laptop i should buy, 2013 Macbook Air 13'', Macbook pro 13'' or Macbook pro retina 13'' (2013). I already have a main 15' inch laptop, i just need something to have extra however, since im investing money i would like to get the worth of it (aka best config too). So even though i can say the MBA is the cheapest and i should buy that since im looking for a secondary laptop, if i can splurge a bit more to get better memory or screen ( my eyes get strained easily so screen is important) that would be great so in my mind its like this
MacBook Air:
Pros: Light,cheapest of the bunch
Cons: Does not come with enough memory, is non upgradeable :/
Macbook Pro
Pros: Upgradeable, DVD drive
Cons: Older model, Heavier, Not that good of a screen (is it les powerful than the air?)
Macbook pro retina
Pros: Great screen, Light, fastest of the bunch
Cons: Expensive/ non upgradeable

I am not sure how you are planning to "easily utilise my iMac 2010 27" as display for Mac Mini" I am concerned that might not work out nearly as well as you might think. I have seen that attempted by others and the results were pretty clunky and could easily wipe out any anticipated speed gains. Be sure and talk to someone who uses an iMac as a display for another computer before you spend any money.
That said, if I were in your shoes I would either go with a current top end iMac or a maxed out, top end Mac mini and a 27" Thunderbolt monitor. You will end up spending about the same either way. You can save a few hundred dollars buying factory refurbished machines from the online Apple Store or Smalldog.com but you take your choice of what is available and don't expect it to be there tomorrow.

Apple does not offer custom colors. I'd suggest you get a skin for your iPod. Those are available in hundreds of colors and patterns and since they're not permanent, they don't affect the iPod's warranty and you can change if you ever get tired of the skin you chose.

2. The Icons on your dock are Aliases not real apps
They point to where the apps really are which is:
For Pages 5.2.2 in your Applications folder
For Pages '09 in your Applications/iWork folder
3. You are alternately opening documents randomly with either version of Pages
Both Pages have the same file extension .pages and there is no certainty as to which version opens them when you double click on a file.
right click on the file and choose which version you want to open it
4. Pages '09 can not open Pages 5 files
Pages 5 can not open Pages '08 files, and will convert and change Pages '09 and Word files.
It will also auto save opened files into its own format.
You can export these back to Pages '09 if you need to:
Menu > File > Export > Pages '09

Pages 5.2.2 has a few improvements but has had over 110 features removed and is buggy.
Sooner or later you will not be able to open a file or have it damaged in some way and it has a complex obscure file format largely incompatible with everything else, so you will not be able to rescue the contents of your file. If Pages or some third party server/eMail don't trash your file, eventually Apple will do it for you as it did when it released Pages 5 last September. I recommend using Pages '09 for the time being whilst you look for viable alternatives, some are here already and some are on the way.

When the screen saver is on appears an message where ask me to choose between my wi fi network or my Apple Tv in order to get the signal from my PC. There is something I must do to set up the Airplay, if so, what I have to do and where?

If you are talking about the header bar of the Message Pane the only way to get rid of it completely is to close the message pane by pressing F8.
There is a add on called Compact Header that will let you make it smaller.

Rigging a pop-up and a check box to choose between 8 snapshots?

I'm having a problem working out how to create the hierarchical rigs to choose between 8 snapshots.
I have two sets of four snapshots: A, B, C, D and a, b, c, d
I'd like to have a pop-up menu with four options: A, B, C, D
I'd like a check box that is marked 'Upper case'
These two controls would give the option to choose between A, B, C and D - and defining whether the snapshot is 'upper case' or 'lower case'.
Any idea how to rig this?

Would this work for what you want?
-create 4 layers (lower case a,b,c,d)
-Create a new rig and add a pop-up and a checkbox.
-To the Pop up, add layers and set the layer opacity as needed for each options (a,b,c,d).
-To the checkbox, add the text parameter "All Caps". Check each letter.
This is only 4 items you have to deal with. It's the fastest, easiest way to achieve what it sounds like you are trying to create.

Trying to decide between MacbookPro & iPad 2

Hi all- I'm starting high school next year and I am trying to decide between purchasing a MacbookPro and a iPad 2. I just need something to take notes on and I must have iWorks on it during the day, and for travel. I have access to an iMac at home where I have all of my homework, projects, files, etc. on, but I am just looking for something a bit more personalized for during the day use.
I am very nervous as to making the right choice, so all feedback is greatly appreciated!

Well, I have both. And I know students ( first year college) who get along just fine with an iPad for daily use and most of their coursework.
I wouldn't want to get along with syncing to someone else's Mac, however. I think that could get frustrating really fast, both because of a lack of access and a lack of personalization and privacy. But if it's YOUR Mac at home, and it has the specs to support an iPad then the iPad will certainly work.
My second warning about an iPad as your main computer is that while the iPad is fine for visual jounaling and social media, you're going to need a computer for more extensive creative work with images, video and music.
I'd suggest you look at a third choice, which is a MacBook. (Not a MacBook Pro). They are really sturdy (and iPads DO have to be babied and well-protected when they are transported) and plenty powerful enough to run image-editing, music and video apps. I recently spent a few days at a rural high school in my state where all the students get MacBooks and wow! What they were doing with them and how much easier they made managing their reading, research and writing was amazing.
One good thing: if you choose any of these products and find that it doesn't really meet your needs, you'll have no trouble selling it.

Let applications choose between WiFi and Ethernet

So basicly I'm connected to a secure ethernet line with limitations, besides that I'm also connected to wifi with no limitations.
I want to let apps choose between wifi and ethernet, is there any way to do so ?

If it helps you at least a little, in the Podcast App, playlists are now called "My Stations". You can add entire podcasts to Stations (and create new Stations), or you can add individual episodes to the "on-The-Go" station.
Not intuitive, and not as good as having the podcasts back with the music, but it gets the job done till Apple listens to the users again and changes this back.

Notes:
the same functionality works fine in DEV environment.
the other parameters on query in PRD work fine
the parameter with error based on custom hierarchy

How to choose between different audio output in different programs

I want to choose between the audio outputs in different programs.
For example; I want to hear spotify/iTunes with my plugged-in speakers and skype with the build-in/intern speakers.
It is possiple to control this on Windows but can I do it on Mac?
Does anyone know an app for this problem?

I'd assume you'd want to set the sequence to "slur" notes and then just calculate the notes between a top & bottom value based on a float and generate NOTE_ON messages appropriately.
The pitch bend is designed to emulate / support the bend wheel found on sound keyboards...and it just modifies the pitch associated with a given note. A pitch bend of +2 would turn an A into B, etc...
So, you'd want to do...
SET_SLUR (however you do that, I'm not a MIDI expert)
pitch = bottom_pitch + ((top_pitch-bottom_pitch) * sliderValue);

Help me choose between a G4 867 DP or 1.33 G4 Mac mini

What would be better to use for me? I do simple desktop publishing with Indesign and Photoshop CS, I need to choose between a MDD Dual 867 with 2 gig of ram, ATI 8500 video card, airport card and two SATA hard drives with a total of 360 GB of storage or a Mac mini 1.33 GHz G4 with 1 gig of ram, bluetooth & airport extreme with a external 160 GB mini stack. I like the MDD because its upgradeable but is it worth putting more money in it? The mac mini I am stuck with the 1 gig of ram & 32 mb video card. I need help with this decision so your input would be very appreciated.

No, seriously go with the MDD. Its more stable, rock solid, and would show the mini a thing or two. My dual 1.25 simply rocks!
The DP 1.6 and 1.8 LACK L3 CACHE!!! remember, L3 CACHE is the backbone as to why the G4s are still fighting to hang on!! No, I would rather keep my dual 1.25 with 2MB L3 then go with a sonnet upgrade which doesn't have L3. Unless, someone can honestly tell me if its really worth my money(of which I have, and can get things at wholesale price) to pop in the 1.8DP or 1.6dp and see DRAMATIC speed performance and speed bumps.

Trying to decide between a Macbook air or Macbook Pro retina

I'm going to college in September and I'm trying to decide between a fully speced out Air or a Retina pro with upped RAM and CPU. My Dad recently got an air and I have played with it quite a bit and it feels really nice and portable, easy to carry around and use during breaks or to type up notes during a class. I would possibly use Photoshop on it at college (In my graphics design class) but I don't know if I will need to. The Retina display seems really awesome but I don't know whether or not to go for the pro, I would also like to play games on it however not too many (for example the something like skyrim). I also have a main gaming desktop which I would use for high intensity programs at home.

Can I set FIREFOX to choose between two different homepages or websites?

I know that Firefox will open any number of web sites when you start it. I want to have the ability to choose between opening a preset number of sites and just one. For instance at the beginning of the day I want all my banking sites available when I start. Later in the day I want to open only say, Google. Is there any way to have Firefox do that?
