I'm trying to connect a LAN printer, HP Color Laser Jet 3800dn, through a Time Capsule but no one on the network can see it. The printer works fine if I connect it directly to my iMac. Any suggestions?

There is a good chance the printer is just getting auto IP internally..
Plug it into your TC. And then set to dhcp via the controls on the printer.
If you know the name of the printer it should be immediately available to the network.. but anyway, you can find its IP by printing out the test page. That will also give you the network name.
Most later HP printers have web access to the print servers.. just type the ip into your browser and see if it comes up.
From the Mac, you should then be able to set it up via the printer preferences. Most HP will just appear.. but if not you should perhaps delete the local version and then check again for network printers.

Why are all my devices acknowledging my wireless network through my time capsule, but only one is able to connect to the internet?

This started when I changed the port for cable modem access. If I shut everything down- router, MacBook, and iPhone and restart the router... the device I turn on first will connect to the internet. The second device will read the wireless network but if you attempt to connect to the internet- it states no internet connection is available. Is this a security feature I enabled unknowingly? You are using your TC in the wrong way.. in bridge and it has to be in router mode.
Simply make sure you connect SB5100 to the WAN port of the TC.
Go to the airport utility, manual setup, internet tab on the bottom and choose connection.. ethernet.. and down the bottom connection sharing.. share a public IP.. sorry I don't have the exact wording as my TC is in pieces being fixed.
Update and then shut off everything again, particularly the modem.. start everything in order.. modem.. wait 2min.. then TC.. wait 2min then all the computers .. they will get an IP from the TC. With correct address and gateway.
What was happening is the first device to turn on was capturing the one and only public IP. The rest get local IP without connection.

However, in System Preferences I can’t “add” the printer to the print queue because I don’t have a driver and you have to select a driver before the add button becomes active. Therefore, the Mountain Lion software update doesn’t add driver software for the CP 1215 driver because I was unable to add the printer to the print queue.

You could try the 1515 driver or use the Generic PostScript Printer PPD when adding the printer.

Can I just add Time Capsule to my AEBS Wi-Fi network without making it the main connection to my Internet modem?

Reason I ask: I have an AirPort Extreme that works great. I only want to use the Time Capsule to back up my wife's Macbook wirelessly. I don't want to go through the daylong hassle of trying to set up the Time Capsule as my base station and have to track down obscure networking data (by calling an AT&T tech person in the Philippines) and printer info and TCP/IP digits, MAC addresses, MAP vs. POP info, etc. etc.
So, can I just plug in the Time Capsule and "add" it to my current Wi-Fi arrangement? Then just open my wife's Macbook and choose the device on the network to back up to?

Yes, you have the option to configure the Time Capsule to "join" your current wireless network, so backups will occur over wireless only. In this type of configuration, the Time Capsule really functions only as a wireless hard drive. It performs no routing functions at all.
One of the advantages of doing it this way is that the Time Capsule can be located wherever you want.....as long as it can receive a strong wireless signal from your main wireless router, of course.

Printing with an HP Laserjet P1009 through a time capsule

I have an HP Laserjet P1009 and a macbook Pro. I can print from the macbook to the laserjet just fine if it is connected directly (USB), but I am trying to connec the printer to my time capsule and print through there. I saw a previous post with the following solution:
+Open the menue "Printer and Fax", klick "+" to add a new printer.+
+Now klick "IP"+
+Select the protocol "HP Jetdirect - Socket"+
+Adress: Enter the IP-adress of your Time Capsule (for example 192.168.178.22)+
+Change the name and location as you prefer.+
+On the last point click the menue where you can select the printer drivers and chose the driver "HP Laserjet P1005. 1.2.0.224"+
+click "OK" ... and print!+
+I tried this solution and it works. Even the hotlines (HP and Mac) told me that it will never ever work with this printer.+

but when I try it I can't find the driver for the P1009 in that list (nor for the P1005, or any other P1000 series).

It's been a while since I installed those things. I'd take a look at the hpijs web page and be sure to follow the instructions - is it possible you have the wrong version of something? Have you selected the driver that says hpijs in its name? Maybe your printer is one of the unfortunate ones that somehow got left out of the package -- no problem, get (download) the ppd and use the driver choice "other" in Printer Setup to navigate to that ppd and choose it.
What you have described is again postscript output, meaning that the Mac is bypassing ghostscript and sending postscript to the PC to be passed to the printer.

I have the HP color laser jet CP1215 and it seems to have frozen. I have tried unplugging and replugging the printer as well as just turning it on and off. I was able to delete some of the documents in the queue but there is one that I cannot delete and it is freezing the printer.

Can't get or send emails. Network connection is correct. Can't get Safari to work. Home PC is good to go...Any suggestions?

You cannot send or receive emails or visit web pages in Safari because your iPad is not connected to the Internet. They are related problems. From your description of plugging and unplugging your PC, I assume your PC is connected to your router by wire, not by wireless. So that is not going to be a good test of your wireless router, though it is a good test to see that the router is connecting to the Internet. I am, of course, assuming you have a wireless router. The problem could be the wireless setting in your iPad or could be the router itself.
On your iPad, go to Settings.
Is Wi Fi on? If not, turn it on and maybe that's all it needed. Also make sure Airplane Mode is off.
If Wi Fi was already on, click on Wi Fi and see if your router shows up on the list.

You can direct connect your MBA to the LaCie via USB 2 cable. If you have an Apple Airport Router you can USB connect the LaCie drive to the router and then use Airport Utility to configure it. Time Machine can access it either way.

I have tried to connect the new mac to an existing time capsule both directly through ethernet and through wifi. Both times I get Internet connection OK but Airport Utility is stuck searching for the base station. I have two existing macs which are connected fine and have both been backing up quite happily. The first two macs are the same user (me) and the new one is for a different user in the house. All the macs are running Mavericks.
I have tried rebooting the time capsule and the new mac - didn't help.
Any information as to what I can try would be most welcome.

I have solved my problem! It was the old chestnut the firewall issue. We have McAfee firewalls on our machines and the wifi network was set up as a public rather than a home network. I changed it to Home or Work and het presto the time capsule appeared. I didn't have this problem with the other machines at all.

Unplugged center cord in the middle on the back of the monitor-waited 15 seconds, restarted, held down option-command-p-r and this didn't help. Apple support thought that it was most likely a video card/hardware issue, but would like to hear of any other trouble shooting suggestions.

Not a hardware issue, since it shows up in a screenshot. Please boot in safe mode, launch Safari, and test. Same problem?
Some things won't work in safe mode, possibly including wireless networking.
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode.)

You will need to boot from some alternate boot device to accomplish this, if you did not initialize the drive before installing it.
If you have another Mac, you may be able to use FireWire target disk mode.
If your MacBook has a DVD reader and you have a Mac OS X Installer/Utilities DVD, such as the one that shipped with it, you can boot from that DVD, answer only the "what Language" question, and wait a quarter minute for the MenuBar to be drawn. Then examine the Utilities menu or the Installer menu and Find Disk Utility.

This is more about your modem then anything. Sometimes you'll need to unplug and plug back in your modem. Consider it a glitch from the ISP or just the modem in general.
when I need to turn something off then on I try the modem first. This when I'm not doing any ware and tare to the device.
