I'm trying to do a "complete" uninstall of Firefox.

But, it is leaving add-ons, etc, and it's reloading them on reinstall and I don't want that. I went into all folders (some are not allowing access even though I have admin. rights) and removed all FF folders I could find and when I reinstall FF all that is still there. I don't want that - I want a CLEAN install. I checked the options not to save any personal stuff on uninstall as well. How do I completely remove everything and install a clean copy of FF with no add ons, extentions, personal settings etc?
I am doing this because for some reason I am getting redirect attempts like crazy during searches and visits to some sites and a ton of popups on those pages. Pop ups are not as bad now but I have spent the last two days with Malware techs who have found no reason for these problems and finally told me to try a fresh FF install. Well currently my tech guy is in NewJersey and without power now due to hurricane Sandy, so I am looking for the info on doing this here. He may be without power for a week or more.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Try to install FireFox computer says needs to reboot to uninstall deleted FireFox , when computer restart no install.

Had the same drama with Windows 7 64 bit this is what I was told to do and it worked for me!!
Close all applications and reboot the computer.
Delete any downloaded or partially downloaded installer files.
Clear the browser cache (of whatever browser you are using to download FF) and the Windows Temp directory.
Delete the directory C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
Shutdown any anti-virus software you are running.
Download a new copy of the full installer from www.mozilla.com
Run the installer.
Restart the anti-virus program.

• Why doesn't Firefox completely uninstall ?

Why does Firefox 22 on a Mac Os not completely uninstall? when I remove the application on the Mac by dragging the application to the garbage and then reinstall, my book marks are still present. Why? All applications should completely uninstall but Firefox does not and it has done this since version 13.
I am aware of the procedure to manual remove the files but this doesn't make sense as if you can manually remove files it should be automated.

Firefox stores your user data and settings (called your ''profile'') in a separate location from the program. Mac doesn't provide an easy way to remove your profile but you can do it manually. See these articles for details:

• After successful installation of iTunes 10.6.1, iTunes will not open. Tried complete uninstall and reinstall, still not working. Cannot sync iPad or access iTunes at all. Any suggestions?

After successfully installing the iTunes upgrade to 10.6.1, Now I cannot open and access itunes. I have tried a complete uninstall and reinstall and it is still not working. I have looked through many support communities for answers. I added an iPad 2 almost a year ago and all was fine until my upgrade to the "cloud services" and upgrade to new version. I have been without iTunes on my PC for a month. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

I too have only recently encountered this problem. I have been able to burn disks before but it keeps making all these weird sounds. It might be a hardware problem but the fact that everything else that uses a disk works I doubt it.

I tried to download the itunes update and at first it would say i was missing msvcr80.dl so I completely uninstalled itunes and its components, then reinstalled it. Now it says I'm missing"Applle Application Support" How do I fix this?

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

• I keep getting the endless blue circle when trying to watch netflix on my macbook pro, despite completely uninstalling/reinstalling silverlight?

I'm putting this question in the Macbook Pro category because I'm not having this problem on a similar age Macbook Air, both of which are running Lion, so I'm wondering if its not something to do with the graphics card or something else specific to this laptop? The software suite isn't the same between the two computers, so that could also be an issue, if anyone has any ideas about what software may be interfering.
The long and short of it is that when I try to watch netflix on my 2011 Macbook Pro, I get the Silverlight blue dots that spin around in a circle in the middle of the screen, and that's it. I assumed it was a silverlight problem, so I completely uninstalled/trashed the silverlight plugin and all its associated files (having read other forums where detailed command-line instructions were given) and reinstalled, and I still have the same problem. And it occurs in 3 browsers: chrome, firefox, and safari.
And here's the real kicker -- I'm running Windows 7 in Parallels.....and when I try to watch netflix on my VM, I no longer get the blue circle....BUT the movies/shows don't play. I can scroll through the entire show and the current frame will come up, but it will not play --- the play button is depressed (ie, I can only see a pause button) but nothing happens -- it's as if the

There are several issues for sure you may be dealing with all of which may be related. I would start by saying that you experienced a "Kernel Panic" during the boot camp partition, described in article http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1392. I would advise that for the heat issue and the kernel panics in conjunction, may be a good push to get diagnostics at a retail store or apple service provider.
- - If all this is just a set of resolvable software or small hardware issues, articles http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1388 and http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964 will help surely start tackling these issues, best of luck!

• When I tried to download the new version of firefox I get an error message that says "you computer must be restarted to complete an earlier upgrade" when I restart it says the same thing. I cannot use firefox at all at the moment.

When I tried to download the new version of firefox I get an error message that says "your computer must be restarted to complete an earlier upgrade" when I restart it says the same thing. I cannot use firefox at all at the moment. When I try to uninstall in the control panel, the same message pops up.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
* Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
* Install the new version that you have downloaded

• I can't uninstall/install FireFox due to a pop-up that says: Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox..."

This problem arose when I attempted to upgrade my existing FireFox browser to the new FireFox 7. I clicked through the auto-update, but didn't think that anything changed, as the browser didn't look like the image in the feature explanation image I was viewing. I then tried to download Firefox 7, and when I tried to instal it, this process began.
I can't uninstall/install FireFox due to a pop-up that says: Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox..." When restarted and attempted again, the same pop up appears and I am stuck in an infinite loop.
I cannot locate the Mozilla file within my program files to try and delete cantankerous upgrade components, which seems to resolve this issue for many people. See: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/796566
I also tried completely deleting Firefox, which didn't work either-- I ended up doing a system restore, only to be met with the same infinite loop.
Now, when I click on the Mozilla icon, nothing happens. No window opens, no error message, nothing.
Why can't I find the Mozilla folder in my Programs File but can see it in Control Panel "Add or Remove Programs" (though I can't uninstal due to infinite loop)?

It is probably because you are not properly closing Firefox. Restarting your system would make sure that Firefox had terminated, but you do not have to do that.
To properly close Firefox on Windows systems, use
:File > Exit or "Firefox:" button > Exit
When you get the message "Firefox is already running" it is too late, and you must force termination of Firefox through the Windows Task Manager before restarting Firefox. Windows 7 has a keyboard shortcut to save you a step "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" then on "Processes" tab, select "firefox.exe" and use the "End Process" button. More thorough would be to right-click on the "firefox.exec" and choose "End Process Tree".
You would find firefox.exe in a Mozilla folder in your program files, but y0u would not want to delete it there, you would need to use the Control Panel which you have already identified and do it from there -- but generally you would not need to do that, and there is nothing in what you have posted to indicate that you should. But if you did do that, then don't let the install start Firefox for you as you would want to use you existing desktop icon or method of starting Firefox, and should decline having Firefox install start Firefox for you. When the install starts then invoke Firefox in your normal manner. This should eliminate problems of creating a new profile rather than using your old profile.

• ITunes 11.1.4 will not download after complete uninstall. Why?

After downloading and trying to install 11.1.4 for Windows (32-bit) on 1/23/14, I got that common error message. After research, followed all instructions in KB HT1923 to do a complete uninstall of iTunes and related components, and checked / restarted my system per that doc. I have been trying to download it since with no success. The process is this: clicking Download Now brings up the popup "Opening iTunesSetup.exe". When I click "Save File", though, nothing happens - no message, nothing shows in the download arrow on Firefox. How to get over this hurdle? Thank you.
Note: I have successfully downloaded and installed at least one other program update since the failure with iTunes began, so there doesn't appear to be an issue with the Windows Update / Install module.

Be sure to follow the instructions of tt2 found in: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5822086 so you clean out related material.

• After completely uninstalling iTunes and QuickTime, registry keys remain!

I have completely uninstalled iTunes and QuickTime from my PC (OS = XP Home) and deleted all folders and files associated with Apple, iTunes or QuickTime that were not removed during the normal uninstall procedure.
Also, I have cleaned my registry using Registry Mechanic. However, about 120 registry keys for iTunes and QuickTime stubbornly remain. I have tried to remove them several times, but on the next scan they are still there. Manual removal using Regedit also fails, resulting in the message:
"Cannot delete **: error while deleting key".
I don't understand how a program that has been completely deleted can still have registry traces. The offending keys (listed below) are in the Custom Controls section. How can I delete them?

Manual removal using Regedit also fails
In regedit, check the permissions on one of the keys that you're failing to remove. Does the user account that you're logged into (while doing the regedit) have full permissions on the key?

• Need information on complete uninstall of tbird

I have been trying to discover how to do a complete uninstall of Thunderbird and then reinstall with new profile. I have a) uninstalled it; b) removed all the profiles with %appdata%, etc., c) emptied trash; d) reinstalled Thunderbird, e) filled in the required information to create new account; e) connected to server, and f) the old account with all its errors pops up.
What am I doing wrong?

Hello,
To me it seems like you are talking about a Clean Install you can do so by following these steps:
Certain Thunderbird problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Thunderbird's program files and then reinstall Thunderbird. Please follow these steps:
#Download the latest version of Thunderbird from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download is complete, close all Thunderbird windows (Click Exit/Quit from the menu button on the right).
#Delete the Thunderbird installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*'''Windows:'''
#** C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\
#** C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Thunderbird from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Thunderbird with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Thunderbird on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ Thunderbird Download Page], simply remove the folder ''thunderbird'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Thunderbird:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to open Thunderbird after clicking the Finish button.
WARNING: Do not run Thunderbird's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Thunderbird data, including but not limited to, extensions, emails, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!
Please report back to see if this helped you!
Thank you.

• How to completely uninstall a downloaded program from my macbook pro

I am trying to uninstall a program that I downloaded from the internet and do not use anymore. However the drag and drop into the trash bin does not do it because it is still in my applications folder. How do I completely uninstall it from my macbook pro?

Typically there are a couple of ways.
1. What you did followed by emptying the trash, and
2. Use the uninstaller that may have been bundled in the package.
If available, you should run the uninstaller provided by the application.

• Maps on N80: How to completely uninstall before re...

Nokia Maps worked fine on my N80. Installed on the memory card, with maps for England and some parts of France and Spain. For some reason it now crashes when 'show on map' is used, whether it's from a new search or a recent search. It crashes just at the point it is zooming in.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling however the same thing happens. I have deleted all maps via Nokia Map Loader and since reloaded them.
I would like to know which system folders contain settings etc. for Maps so that I may again uninstall the app, completely this time, and try re-installing.
As I mentioned, Maps is installed on a memory card. I wouldn't know when the crashes started, in relation to other activity on the device - it may have been when I added new maps, or it may have been since installing a 3rd party app, I'm not certain but I'd just like to know how to completely uninstall Maps without having to scrub the device or memory card.

Hi dougalzene
Unfortunately on this manufacturer's sponsored forum, I would have to say that the only way of deleting the "installation log" would be to reformat your device.
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0
