I'm trying to import iMovie Hd into iMovie 11, but all that imports are my jpg still shots, no video. Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong?

I'm having the same problem. I have iMovie HD v6 and i use File > Import > iMovie HD Project, but I don't even get thumbnails. I just get a blank project. See screenshot

Can you drag the file off of the CD onto the Mac Desktop? Or is it a DVD? You might need to go through some extra steps to convert the DVD into something that iMovie can understand. For instance HandBrake can convert a DVD into .mp4 format which iMovie can then import into the iMovie Events Library.

If the video is already on a DVD:
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

Get a copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert your MPG file to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC). In FCE, select one of the setups that uses AIC that best matches your clip (say, 1920x1080i60). Create a new sequence, then import the converted file.
Note that if your MPG file is actually MPEG2 you will also need the QuickTime MPEG2 Component in addition to MPEG Streamclip.
What was the source of the MPG file? How about if you open it in QuickTime, then do Window > Show Movie Inspector. Tell us what it says for codec/compression, frame size & frame rate.

Trying to import Adroid MP4 video to CS4

I took some video on my Andriod phone at 1280X720. (Samsung Epic)
I try to import the resuling MP4 files it into CS4. Although it imports, it's very jumpy with poor audio sync. I can render the clip, but the final clip is till very jumpy
I bought a conversion program "Super. by eRighSoft' which provides an unlimited number of setting to convert the various specs of the file (sampling trate, video scale, video package etc...) and tried several setting. But still no luck.
Anyone figure out how to get the files to import correctly into CS4 from the Android Epic?

I ran the GSpot program.
When I looked at all Codec and Filters, there seemed to be a bunch of red line items on all the Main Concept files.
For instance, I received the following.

Time Machine is a back up you have to set up to back up before there is a problem like a hard drive failure.
It is possible to recover files from a failed drive, but it is an expensive proposition.
There is a faint hope that an app like Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro might repair the drive. You could try making an appointment at an Apple store and ask a technician there to take a look... the diagnosis will not cost you.

Audio imports, but not video

Haven't ran into this prob before, so seems strange that it's happening now. When I attempt to import video into FCE, it all looks like it's going fine. I see the video, click capture, then press "escape" when I'm done with the import. Problem is the imported file is only audio. I've looked at the imported file(s) in finder and opened in QuickTime. Sure enough, just sound. No video.
I've edited about 10 projects this year using FCE with all of this same equipment, but have never had this problem.
I've made several attempts at troubleshooting this afternoon, but problem still not solved.
Because I was curious, I attempted to import the same video into iMovie 06 (again, using all of the same equipment). No prob. Video successfully imported with audio.
I even followed one thread's suggestion and got rid of some QT files in Receipts folder, then reinstalled QT. Did not solve problem.
I've unplugged everything, then restarted computer (twice). But that hasn't worked.
I've looked at Sequence settings to confirm that video's accounted for, and everything appears to be in order.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate reading them. I suspect I've overlooked something simple.
I should probably point out that I have not performed any recent upgrades to my OS.

Thanks so much. Trashing preferences worked. Wasn't sure what that meant, but googled it and found a helpful page. Just now succeeded at importing a video clip. As a slight aside, thumbnails now appear in browser, whereas text did previously. And borders/letterbox in viewer now appear gray instead of black. I realize these must be simple settings and I will hunt them down.
Thank you so much. After reading your initial reply, I'd suspected I was going to have to do a reinstall (not terribly difficult, as I've done it once before).

I've already imported 6 videos that we're all under 15 minutes. But, I still have 4 videos that are all 17 minutes and longer, when I try to update those, a message pops up. I don't know what to do >.<

Sorry, but due to glitches with the forum software, your image did not load.
Have you tried using the Image Capture app in your Applications folder to import video from the GoPro ??
Using a camera with your Mac
Make sure there's enough free space on your Macs hard drive to import video content to.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.

IMovie will control camera, but no video displays in window

If any body has any ideas, I've used my Canon DV camera Elura 65 many, many times before with no problem importing video to iMovie. Now when I connect my camera, it still says camera connected, I can control the camera with the iMovie controls(fast forward, play etc.) but when I do push play, the time code disappears and no video is shown in the viewing window of iMovie. No sound comes out either. If anybody has any clue of what could be wrong, let me know, I would be much appreciative.

Suggestions for troubleshooting this issue have been:

*"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
*As well as temporarily changing dns to 8.8.8.8
*Flushing the dns cache on the computer
*File may be unavailable, please try again later.
*Disable all video players from [about:addons] and see if it will play from the default HTML5 player.

Trying to import 200+ email addresses (only) into AB for distribution

I'm having trouble importing a list of email addresses into AB so that I can assign them to several groups for a newsletter distribution.
The addresses were sent to me in an email and for the first month i simply copied them all into the BCC field and shot off the newsletter. However, I'd like to introduce some organization into this by putting them all into AB (some people need to be added, others have emails changed).
I've tried several things:
1. Tried simply dragging them from the BCC field to AB - failed
2. Copied them all into a text file, made sure they were all separated by commas, saved as a .csv file, tried to import but that failed.
3. Tried importing them into Numbers and exporting as CSV but that failed as well.
4. Tried using http://homepage.mac.com/phrogz/CSV2vCard_v2.html, as has been suggested many times in this forum. Nothing ever appeared on the third tab.
5. Tried using the WhoPaste but that failed to import a batch of emails.
Of course selecting each address individually brings up the context menu and I certainly can import that way. But what the heck, this is a Mac and things ought to be easier, especially with so many addresses. Also, I am not an Applescripter but if anyone has already created a script that would help, I'd use that.

Answering my own question: got it resolved. I found a neat little utility called Abee (or Address Book Importer - http://www.sillybit.com/abee/) that did the trick. In working with this I learned that importing just a bunch of well-formed addresses with a comma separating them isn't enough. I decided to find and replace all comma-space combos and replace them with a paragraph character, making each entry on its own line. Naming it a .txt worked fine.
I hope my experience helps someone else in the future.

Imovie hung up after trying to import files

Hello,
my son tried to import some MP4 videos in to imovie 09. It did not work and the program crashed. After we rebooted imovie kept giving the same failure message "the clip file XXX could not be found. Without this file the movie cannot be played". I deleted all remaining MP4 files he had on the computer. The message persisted. I then upgraded to Mac OSx 10.6.8 but the program persisted. I then deleted imovie and reinstalled it. And now we still have the problem. Does anybody have an idea why this is happening and how we can fix it?

Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring an iLife application back to its original settings (this will not impact your project files or libraries). To do this:
1. In the Finder, click the Go menu and choose Home.
2. Open the Library folder and then the Preferences folder.
3. Remove the "com.apple.x.plist" file, where "x" should be replaced with the iLife application you are troubleshooting (for example, "com.apple.iphoto.plist" or "com.apple.imovie8.plist").

Problems importing iPhone 4 video into After Effects CS5 - Audio sync out

Hi there,
I am currently experiencing problems trying to import iPhone 4 video into After Effects CS5.
Firstly i'd like to note that the video plays perfectly fine on the iPhone, VLC and in Quicktime Player. The audio and video is in sync.
When I add the footage to After Effects the video becomes slightly out of sync with the audio. I have noticed this in RAM preview and also in renders I did just to test.
I also want to note that, both my iPhone and After Effects have latest software updates.

I thought that changing the frame rate in the composition settings would have worked.
Instead what I should have done is to go the the footage in the Project Panel then right-click on the footage > Interpret Footage > Main... then Conform to frame rate: Frame rate: 23.986607 (or whatever more accurate frame rate your footage actually is)
I used the more accurate frame rate reading from VLC which went to 5 decimal places. I got that info from the top menu in Tools > Codec Information
Its a shame AE doesn't pick up on the more accurate fps. It seems that all the videos from my iPhone 4 have slightly different frame rates and I guess I will have to interpret each clip properly.
I hear that the frame rate on the iPhone 4 is different depending on the lighting? I wonder why that would be the case?

IMovie is no longer opening my videos in iPhoto/Photobooth. Claims that it is not authorized to and tells me to open them with iTunes. I want to open them with iMovie! Help, please?

This is kind of complicated, but basically my Mac OSX laptop's hardrive recently crashed, but I got a new one and used a passport to put all of my old Word docs, iTunes, photos, and movies back onto the new hardrive. Everything was working fine until I tried to use iMovie. I filmed two new videos in Photobooth, imported those into iPhoto and then prepared to go to iMovie to import the new videos (that was my system) so I could make them Youtube-compatible. However, at first iMovie wanted to make thumbnails of ALL my videos (up until then I had just assumed all of my old 50 videos were buried in my iPhoto?), but I just dismissed that and agreed to it, and it gave me the memo that it would take 4 hours to do, but that was alright... UNTIL I got a pop-up thingy saying that "iMovie is not authorized to play this content. Open with iTunes to view" (something along those lines) and then the rainbow wheel of death appeared and I had to force-quit. I tried this three times. I finally checked on iTunes to discover that all my old movies had transferred over to iTunes. That hadn't been that way before. I would prefer to have them on iMovie/iPhoto, and I NEED to be able to use iMovie to edit and such. Can anyone explain to me what might be going on and offer a quick fix (if there is one?)? Sorry for the lengthy explanation! Also, if this requires a visit to the Apple store, in the meantime, is it possible to upload a video to Youtube from iTunes (one that I made, not purchased from iTunes)?
