I'm trying to record sound into Imovie using an Mbox.

I've selected it in the system prefs and also in Imovie, but I'm still getting sound thru the built in microphone. Any suggestions?

ask the users in the iMovie forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/imovie.  good luck

  • Says I can't import recorded sound into iMovie because I the files don't have iLife preview

    Hi,
I am trying to either record sound directly onto iMovie to use as a voiceover or record on Garageband and then import it to iMovie. I have not found a way to record on iMovie, so I was trying to do it on garageband, but when I try to open the file on iMovie, it says I can not because it does not have iLife preview. I have a new Macbook Pro with Retina Display.
    Thank you!

    Hi avalewinter,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you would like to record a voiceover directly in iMovie. To accomplish this, please use the instructions located in the attached article.
iMovie (2013): Add audio and music
    Record a voiceover
You can record your own narration to add to your movie.
Position the playhead where you want to start recording in the timeline, and choose Window > Record Voiceover. The voiceover recording controls appear below the viewer.
To adjust the recording settings, do any of the following:
To change the input device: Click the Voiceover Options button, and choose an option from the Input Source pop-up menu.
To adjust the input level of the microphone: Click the Voiceover Options button, and drag the Volume slider right to increase the volume of what is being recorded, or left to decrease it. You can monitor the audio levels by using the built-in audio meter on the Record button. You should set the volume so that the audio meter in the microphone (the Record button) stays green, even when your voice is at its loudest.
To mute sound from other clips while recording: Click the Voiceover Options button, and select the Mute Project checkbox.
To start recording, click the Record button.
To stop recording, click the Record button again (or press the Space bar). The recorded audio appears as a new clip in the timeline, above the background music. The voiceover clip is attached to the clip that was below the playhead when the recording was started. The track is named VO: Movie Name - Date, where “Movie Name” is the name of your movie, and “Date” is the date of the recording.
Click the close button to dismiss the voiceover recording controls.
    Best regards,
    Joe

  • How to record sound into array using DAQ ?

    Hi to everyone
Im last year student , im using LABVIEW for the first time.
i have an myDAQ , i need to record audio go through the analog ports/AUDIO INPUT of the myDAQ, into array, for later singal proccesing.
    its for my final project.

First, Learn to use LabVIEW with myDAQ is a series of videos.  To quote the Introduction,
The Learn to LabVIEW with MyDAQ provides fundamental LabVIEW knowledge for a great out of the box experience with your MyDAQ. Each unit provides a set of videos to allow you to learn at your own pace and review material an unlimited number of times. As well, most videos are accompanied by minor exercises which will help drive home important topics and challenge you along the way.
View the videos, do the exercises, and I suspect many of your questions will be answered.  If you write some LabVIEW code and have a problem, come back, show us your code, and explain the problem.

  • I'm trying to record audio into my iPad2 using GarageBand and an iRig, but I can't monitor my tracks at the same time as recording, meaning if I lay down a drum track and attempt to record guitar, I can't hear the drums while recording. Thoughts?

I'm trying to record audio into my iPad2 using GarageBand and an iRig, but I can't monitor my tracks at the same time as recording, meaning if I lay down a drum track and attempt to record guitar, I can't hear the drums while recording. Thoughts?

Hi, I have this exact same problem. I haven't been using an iRig, just a cheap USB-jack cable. I managed to do this with the first cable I bought, but since it broke I've been unable to find a replacement that allows me to hear the drums while recording. DId you manage to get over this issue? If so I would really like to know how. Thanks and best wishes.

  • Record directly into iMovie?

I was wondering if I could set up a camera, and record directly into iMovie. I have a long program I need record, and would love to record (import) directly into iMovie.

Yes you can. But there may be occasional short pauses while your Mac "takes a breath" and indexes what it's storing on your hard disc, etc.
Remember that DV video takes up about 13 gigabytes of space per hour, so you'll need that much free space on your disc per hour of recording, and keep about 10% of your total hard disc space free, so that your Mac can still do its internal housekeeping.
You'll need, of course a camcorder with a FireWire/DV/i.Link connection (..all the same thing; just different names for it!..) which generally means a tape-based miniDV camcorder.
(..Although hi-def HDV camcorders have the same FireWire connection, and record onto the same miniDV tape, there's quite an 'overhead' of processing power which your Mac requires in order to convert the incoming hi-def video into the 'Apple Intermediate Codec' format which lets iMovie edit hi-def, so I'd stick with standard-definition DV if I were you!..)*
Depending on the make and model of camera, you may need to put a tape in the camera - or not - and switch it to either Record or VCR mode. (..In a quick test here I've just turned on my Sony camera in 'Camera' mode with a FireWire cable connected, and iMovie is displaying the picture from the camera, and imports it when I click iMovie's "Import" button..)
"..I have a long program I need record.." ..erm, if you're pointing it at a TV screen to record that, you'd want the camera on some sort of support, and - if you have Manual Focus - you may want to de-focus slightly to avoid the moiré pattern which you might get from tightly focused dots (pixels) on the screen. You'd also want to adjust the camera's White Balance so that the screen looks the right colour!
*P.S: hi-def HDV takes up more than 13GB per hour, so if you were to use hi-def HDV you'd need to allow much more (..up to 4x more..) hard disc space per hour of recording!

  • Importing Video into iMovie using Mac the Ripper

How do I import video into iMovie using Mac the Ripper? I ripped the video content onto my computer but it was not converted into a file that I can import.

I think it's trend for all users since we can get more funny from digital life. Also it's necessary sometimes for us to save our video or dvd files with other methods, i have no idea but use something like converters. To my experience, mactheripper is not what you want, maybe you can try this dvd ripper for mac.Maybe ripper is illegal, but i just get my oringinal files, and i want to do more with it, that's just it!

  • PowerPoint with Sound into iMovie

I have Power Point presentations I made with voice over recordings. If I save to QT, I lose the sound. I don't really want to have to record these presentations yet again. (I started with Keynote but the timing was off so I changed to recording with Power Point for Mac). I know how to save the slides and import them to iMovie (save as image) but how do I do that with the sound files? I can't even find the sound files to save them separately.
I used to be able to do this with Windows but when I bring the presentations to my Windows machine and save the way I know how to maintain the sound files, it doesn't save them. I assume that PPT for Mac saves them in a different format than the Windows PPT version. Please help. TIA.

    Have you tried...
    in PowerPoint
    FILE/SAVE AS MOVIE...
    Movie Options... choose your soundtrack.
That will give you an .mov file.
If it will not import into iMovie, see if there are tween tracks, closed captioning tracks, or text tracks and delete them with QuickTime Pro.
Come back if you have more questions, or if this does not make sense.
This is easier in Keynote. You just set up the presentation as a timed advance (not manual advance) when you export the movie. This will keep the "bad" tracks out so you don't need QuickTime Pro.

  • Trying to record Stereo Mix with a monitor through my headphones.  Using Screenium to record Audio and Video, using Avid MBox Mini with MXL 909 Microphone for the audio through the interface.

Basically, what I am trying to do is this:
Record my screen through Screeenium, record my voice as audio through an Avid MBox Mini (interface) with a MXL 909 microphone to pick up the audio.  I have all that figured out.  I'm able to efficiently record my audio and screenplay through these instruments and programs.  What I am having trouble with is the stereo mix.  I am running into a slew of problems here... My goal: Add on the audio of a game that I am playing (for example, Amneisia) so that the audio for my game will be picked up internally, and not through the speakers to be recorded through the microphone.  I want there to be no external sound except me talking into my microphone.  I also want to be able to HEAR the audio of the game through my headphones (and if possible, myself as well, through a monitor maybe?)
Problems I have run into so far:
-Haven't gotten it to pick up in game audio at all while using headphone.  Can't figure this out
-Downloaded soundflower, have the output as soundflower.  Not picking up anything, will put all my sound and midi settings at the end.
-When I do record through my microphone, it is only picking up a single channel (left earpiece only, no right channel)
-I have figured out it is NOT the equipment, I use Pro Tools and am able to pick up both channels with my mic, recorded a few tests. It's settings and I can't      figure it out
-Trying not to run 16 million programs while running the game, will cause lag.
    Summed up:
    Trying to record:
-Audio from gameplay of any game I am playing through alternative route of speakers (do NOT want to record game audio through speakers, internally)
-Record voice through Avid MBox Mini and MXL 909 microphone.
    -Record screen gameplay through Screenium
I followed a guide that told me to achieve "stereo mix'' I need to download soundflower and follow "X" steps.  That is done and these are my current settings:
Audio Midi Setup - Stereo Mix custom Aggregate Device, Soundflower (2ch) selected, Avid Mbox Mini selected, Soundflower Output #1 has 2 channels (1-2), using Avid MBox mini for "Input" in order to record.  Using Soundflower AND Avid MBox mini as "Output" in order to hear the sounds and replay game sounds (could be the problem? Maybe?)
Sound Settings - Output Stereo Mix (custom channel)  Input Avid MBox Mini (recording)
I'm hoping this isn't too hard to understand.. I'm VERY bad at explaining information regarding computers.. It's hard becuase I don't understand it.  I can clarify anything that I am able to, so any help on finding certain things would be greatly appreciated.
My computer: Macbook Pro MAC OS X Lion (11G63) 10.7.5  2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 4GB 13333 MGz DDR3  (If any of this is imporant)

    Hey guys,
I tried to do some research and it looks like you need to have an external device and its drivers, such as an external microphone, installed on the computer to record audio that can be saved as a sound file. Another Suggestion is to try an auxiliary spliter for your headphones and external speakers?
What software are you using to record your game?
If anyone knows anything different, please let me know.

  • No sound in imovie using mpeg videos. HELP!

Hi, im a newbie, so I have lots of questions with sound in imovie.
I have a digital camrea which does the mpeg movie thing.
so when I import the movie into imovie I see the video but I hear no sound.
I know this was covered in some topics, but I being new to this I really didnt understand.
Im hoping that someone here and point me in the right direction.
    Thank you.

Hi PK - welcome to the forum!
Increasingly, people with digital still cameras want to import their short movie clips created with that camera. BUT the catch is that these movies are NOT in .dv format. They are MPEGs, and if they are MPEG1 or MPEG2 then they must be converted to DV before they will import into iMovie with the audio able to play.
This conversion usually can be done with a free app. called MPEG StreamClip, but may also need another piece of software called the Apple MPEG2 Playback Component (which costs about $20)..
A search in this forum for those, will give you several threads on the issue!
Look here, for example, for more about the method required:
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/%7Eshmhav/SVCDon_a_Macintosh.html#edit_convertMPEG
NOTE that iMovie was designed for DV use (a high-quality editing format), not the much lower quality MPEG footage.

  • Nightmare recording audio into premiere pro with Mbox 2 Mini  Mac OSX

I've adjusted buffer settings, power settings, and so on, not to mention watched two Premiere Pro tutorials on recording audio directly into Premiere that barely still apply, but adobe finds relevant enough to suggest.  I am using a Digidesign Mbox 2 Mini and an ElectroVoice RE20 Microphone.  If I'm lucky I get a clean track of audio for about 45 seconds before the audio begins to pop and crack.  In reading on Avid's forums this is due to a buffer issue, but I've since changed my buffer to every setting and still keep wasting time.  Does anyone have any experience recording directly into premiere pro cc 2014?, Anyone with an Mbox 2 Mini?, Do you have an audio box that seems to work perfectly with CC 2014?  If you have any insight on any of those questions, please comment below.
I've tried everything I could find and read about online, but at this point I have to give up before I waste anymore time.  I've switched usb ports, maybe is a USB 3.0 with 2.0 device?, I switched power locations, plugs, protectors, and so on, even USB cables.... blahhh
    Specs:
    Premiere Pro CC 2014 8.1
2012 Macbook Pro (Non-Retina), 16GB of Ram, dual internal SSD, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
    OSX 10.8.5
Mbox 2 Mini, Firmware 1.4, latest drivers.

    Hi AbzZilla,
I was looking up this post and found you've a similar problem...
I was having the non-responsiveness with the above configurations in 'LE 7.4 & 7.4.2c (Mac-only), but I have now installed Pro Tools LE 8.
Unfortunately I still can't get the MBOX2 to work with the Mac mini 2, but the MBOX2 USB status alights now [i.e. it's very bright and now works] on the MBP 17" ...all with Mac OS X 10.5.6! In all previous Pro Tools versions it confirms support for Pro Tools and the MBox, with the Mac mini:
    http://archive.digidesign.com/compato/osx/os.cfm
So I too am 'stumped' as this is the brand new computer that I wanted the software to be operable on. I've swapped the USB cables (to check if it was a failed cable) and it looks like either a firmware clash or a USB-port power issue? I've also tried non-powered USB hubs... as it could be the later issue? So when I find my powered USB hub I'll let you know, ...if there's a change?
Until then... I Iook forward to further posts in this thread!
    Thanks for kicking-off the discussion.
