I'm trying to restore an iCloud backup

I just got a replacement iPhone five.  It is running iOS 6.  I am trying to restore from the iCloud a backup that was done in iOS 7.  It won't let me, and I can't update the phone to iOS 7 until I complete the setup.  What do I do?

First, yes, it is not possible to restore an iOS 7 backup to an iOS 6 device.  You should give up on that.
So before you use the backup, you must install iOS 7 on your replacement iPhone.  You could try Settings > General > Software Update or you could use iTunes.
Once iOS 7 is on your device, you can get to the iCloud backkup by doing Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings.  You will be offered the iCloud restore as part of the Setup Assistant's options.

  • Trying to restore from icloud backup to new phone

I have just bought a new phone as old one was damaged.  I am trying to restore from icloud backup.  when it asks for a rescue email address it won't accept the address I am submitting even though it is not any of the addresses that are already registered with icloud as apple id, alternate or rescue emails.  this has happened with two different email addresses now, neither of which icloud have a previous record of.  not sure what to do now!

You actually have to go through extra steps of setting up your phone as new, updating and then erasing and restoring from that back up.

  • Old Apple ID email/password when trying to restore from iCloud backup

I've seen variations of this question being asked previously, but I haven't seen any real solutions provided (or any that have worked).
About a year or so ago, I changed the primary email on my Apple ID from an old email address I rarely-to-never use anymore.  Ever since then, when I try to upgrade a device or restore from back-up, I get asked to enter the password from my old email address.  Since I this is no longer the address I use, even if I enter the password for my current Apple ID, it says it's incorrect and won't let me proceed any further.  I have tried re-adding this email to my Apple ID account (doesn't work), I've tried making that email my primary Apple ID again (doesn't work and causes the same issue to occur with restoring apps I've downloaded since changing the Apple ID email), and I've tried just skipping that step in the restore process, but then it doesn't restore all of my apps.
Seems odd to me that my Apple account doesn't use some sort of unique identifier for the Apple ID accounts as a whole instead of trying to recognize purchases based on whatever email someone was using at the time.
Anyway, if anyone knows of a way to fix this, I would be forever grateful!  I just got a new device today and would love to restore from backup smoothly without losing any of my data that might be in the apps attached to that old Apple ID email.
    Thanks!

  • When trying to restore an iCloud backup, I receive the error message "Appe-ID cannot be created. invalid device while updating mme delegate account".

After a complete crash of my iPad 3 (WIFI only) because of updating to iOS 7.03, I try to restore my config from iCloud.
I managed to get into the settings assistant and enter my Apple-ID (which is valid as checked via iTunes).
But then I see the error message "Apple ID cannot be created - invalid device while upgrading mme delegate account".
I have no clue what the mme delegate account is but need my data back.
    Any suggestions?

  • I am trying to restore from a backup that appears on my manage storage but after I erase the phone it doesnt show up as an option to restore from.r

I am trying to restore an icloud backup from a 4s to an iphone 4. Eventhough it shows up in manage storage the 4s backup is not an available option after a full restore of the iphone 4 and then  selection to back up from icloud.Only the 4 backups show up, not the 4s's.
Can you only restore icloud back up 4s to 4s?

if you cant remember the password of your back-up encryption, you can't back it up
You will have to restore as a new phone

  • I had my iPad 2 replaced by Apple today. All my backup was iCloud and so proceeded to restore from iCloud backup point but couldn't proceed as the new iPad needed iOS 7. How can I get I get around this?

I had my iPad 2 replaced by Applestore today. On the new iPad I tried to restore from iCloud backup point but was told I was unable to do this as the new iPad needed to have the latest running system iOS 7 loaded. Is there a way I can do this so I can get my iCloud backup or do I need to go back to Applestore and get an iPad preloaded with iOS 7?

If you feel comfortable you can do the Update to iOS 7 yourself and after you have successfully done that... then Restore your iCloud Back Up.
If you are not comfortable in doing it yourself... Then go back to the Apple Store and get them to do it.
They will be Happy to assist you.

  • My phone is stuck in the restoring process after 4 days of trying to restore from icloud? What should I do? I have tried restarting the phone and it hasn't worked and I can't cancel backup or it's says it will delete it? Please help!!!

    Hi
My phone is stuck in restoring from icloud after 4 days. I have tried restarting it and if I try to cancel backup it says data will delete data
    Please help!!!,

    There is no way out.
Restart the restore procedure and make sure you are connected to the wall power adapter and have Internet connection.
Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
At the end it will ask whether you want to restore, choose iCloud backup.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes, update first, Settings > General > Software Update.
Then navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all contents and settings on the device you want to restore.
When this completes and the Set-Up Assistant starts, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from.

    Back from where?
You choose to not copy them off to a computer as they are designed to be.
If they are no longer showing in iCloud, they are gone.

  • Ipod reset to old setting with old icloud ID.  How do I reset it to use new login for icloud and then restore from icloud backup

My upgrade to iOS 8 failed and I had to restore my iPad from an old backup (since restoring from cloud wasn't given as an option).
Now the iPad has my old iCloud account configured instead of the one I've been using for the past year or so.  How do I:
    1. Get the iPad to use the correct iCloud account?
    2. Restore the iPad from an iCloud backup?
Everytime I try to log out of iCloud it prompts me for the password on the old account to allow me to turn off "Find my iPad".  I don't think that account even exists anymore.  I tried to reset the password on the old account (using an old email address), but the password email never arrives.
    Help!

Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

  • HT201269 my new iphone 5c does not give me the option to restore from icloud backup

I am trying to transfer the data from my old phone to my new one and my new 5c does not give me the option to restore from icloud backup
So now what do I do

    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Settings.
Once this is done, it will ask you to set your phone up again.  You can choose to restore from your iCloud backup.
