I'm trying to send an itunes gift but it keeps telling me to contact support to complete purchase?

I have tried a Visa debit card and a Mastercard, both are perfectly good but it just keeps telling me to contact support tocomplete purchase. Any idea what I need to do, I have looked at the support site but can't find any information. Thanks

    I'm trying to send an ITune gift card online for my nieces.  I've done it successfully for the first one and the others won't work. The message tells me to contact the apple store support to complete the transaction.  I've trying doing so however, due to being Christmas the call centre is not working.
    I don't understand especially, as I can still make purchases, i.e. I've tested this.  My card details are all OK so what could it be?
    Is calling a call centre part of the process?
    What's the process flow for purchasing a gift card?  The detail on the support site does not provide any information on the reason's why one would need to contact support to complete the transaction so I really don't understand.  Being Christmas and my niece's birthday I needed this to be done.  If I had know I would not have relied on doing it online assuming it was done without needing to contact anyone.

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
    DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

    Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
    Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
    Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

    If you still can't redeem your card, then you should contact iTunes Store Customer Support via http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ and provide the serial number on the back of your gift card. The article above shows you how to locate the serial number.
