If it won't turn on then the monitor is dead (power supply?, video circuits?).  Not worth repairing.
If you have a new iMac then it has thunderbolt.  So exactly what is that monitor you are trying to connect?  For TB you can connect a mini-displayport monitor.   Probably (not 100% sure with TB) can use dvi or vga too if you have the appropriate adapter.

  • I tried to power down, now the little circle in the middle of screen like its loading but wont go on or off and power button doesn't do anything

I tried to power down my ipad2 and now there is a little spinning circle in the middle of the screen but it won't either turn on or off, is there some way fix this?

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • I cannot connect to my camera at all. I have tried turning it off then on and downloading all the camera apps but it still won't work. My iPod doesn't even give me the option to use anywhere.

My iPod doesn't give me any choice to access the camera. I have tried sownloading a camera app and restarting my iPod but when I had the camera app the screen just turned black. Any idea what's going on?

    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

  • IPhone 4 just turned off, power button doesn't work, won't charge

I was using my phone and it had 30% left, when I went to use it again it was unresponsive, won't turn on. I tried plugging it in and that does not turn it on either. Unfortunately my top power button does not work so I can't reset it and a computer won't recognize it, can anything be done to fix it or at least recover numbers and photos?

To fix it you need to get the sleep button fixed.
No way to recover photos or data from a non responsive iphone.

  • Week-old Pro won't turn on, power cord doesn't light up

I bought a new 13" non-retina MacBook Pro a week ago. Now my laptop will not turn on, and there is no green/amber light on the power cord when it is connected.
Backstory: I've already had problems with this machine. The same day I bought it, it no longer recognized my admin password that I had set up and logged in with several times. I had to reinstall the operating system.
The day it stopped working, I had been transferring some files from my old laptop to the pro via an external hard drive. The laptops charge was getting low, so I plugged in the charger. In order to do this, I had to unplug & replug the external hard drive's power cord to get both to fit. I was dumb and forgot that it was necessary for the drive to work, but after I had realized this I assumed that it wasn't such a big deal. After all, I had already transferred everything I need over and there was nothing on the drive that controlled the laptop in any way. There was a popup similar to when a flash drive isn't ejected properly. It said that some things on the drive could be corrupted, but I didn't pay much notice because, as I said, everything I needed was already off. However, after I clicked "ok", the machine shut down.
Now, my laptop is completely unresponsive. No lights, no fan, nothing at all that would show it is functioning at all. Pressing the power button does nothing. When I plug in the charger, there's no colored indicator. I know this isn't an issue with the charger, because I tried another charger and it too did not have a green/amber light.
Does anyone know what's wrong, or how I can fix this? If not, I'm bringing it back in to Apple to be fixed/returned.

    Clare,
Please don't be insulted here, but sometimes the obvious is the stuff that bites us. Are you sure the power cord is plugged into a good outlet? If you're using the cord that attaches in place of the onboard AC connector, is it securely snapped in?
It seems odd that this happened when it did, meaning you were low on power to begin with. If you think about it, this is how a no power to the charger situation would behave.

  • G4 MDD won't start. Power button doesn't light up.

I just moved, shipped my computer (a G4 mirrored door drive) and when I unpacked it and plugged it in, it wouldn't even act like there was power to it. No light up on the power button, no chime, no nothing. I used my Blackberry to troubleshoot and ended up resetting the PMU.
Today, about a week later, I was having trouble with my internet so I shut everything down and flipped the switch on my powerstrip to reset it. (GRR. I probably should have just unplugged the modem and plugged it bag in.) Now, my computer is doing the same thing. Now lights, no chimes, nada.
Should I reset the PMU again? Is that bad to do? Why would it possibly be doing this again?
    Help!

Unplugging your Mac from it's power source causes the battery to discharge as it trys to maintain PRAM settings and the Macs clock. If you have done this before, or often cut power off to your Mac via a power strip or wall switch, your battery may be depleted. Since it's not a rechargable battery it'll need to be replaced. You can also check it with a voltmeter.
Even if you have'nt done it before, this disconnect may have been enough to kill it, if it was weak to begin with.
I would check it first. When mine went, I had no response from my Mac at all; just a light on my power button; absolutely no boot at all.
Check out things in Texas Mac Man's tutorial on the subject. His tutorial is a little dated (don't believe it even mentions G5's) but the info in it, except SMU not being included, still applies.
    Cheers!

  • HT204382 Help!  I just followed all instructions . . . downloaded DivX on my MacBook Pro so that I can view all of the avi movies but it still won't let me see them.  When I bring down the file and get info I can view it in the little box that only that.

Okay so . . . just bought a new Mac OS X because my last MacBook Pro burned up.  I was luckily able to put everything on an external hard drive.  But when I try to play my movies from the hard drive or any other DVD that were downloads that are AVI  it says "QuickTime Player can't open "Genetic Roulette_(360p).avi" because a required codec isn't available."  So I went ahead and followed the instructions and download the DivX but it still will not play.  Can anyone out there help me?

Download and install VLC. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html and get rid of DivX.

My iphone turned off and i can't turn it on. I tried to turn it on with plugging into charger but it doesn't help. the problem is that the power button doesn't work.

Well, that is going to make it difficult, since the first two steps of user troubleshooting require the use of the power button. I suggest you get that fixed.

  • My iPod touch won't turn off. I tried and the turn off slide button in stuck in the of position, but it's still not turning off. It's been a few days please help!!!!

My white 4th generation iPod touchs turn of slide button is stuck on off but my iPod won't turn off for some reason and it only shuts off when the battery dies. It's been stuck like this for some time. Please please please help!!!!

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

The missing information is highlighted in red." the ok button doesn't work. The message is now fixed & I cannot get rid of it. Ironically, when I found this forum I was able to set up an apple Id. Please advise how to get rid of the pop-up box. Thanks!

I'm having this same problem as well and cannot advance--very irritating. All of the information is filled out correctly and I've editted my AppleID information online separately as well to get around this issue, but no luck...

No such app exisits or can exist.  Apple doesn't allow 3rd party apps to access core functions of the phone.  Time to get your phone replaced or repaired if assistive touch doesn't needs your needs.

Do you know which iMac model family you have? There are four families dating back to 1998. Troubleshooting depends on that. This forum covers the first three families made from 1998 to 2005. iMacs newer than that get a separate forum.
Do you have the system disks that came with the computer? If so, and depending on model, you may be able to start from the CD/DVD and then make the jump to booting normally.
All computers has a little battery on the logic board that holds date, time, and some important startup parameters when the compuer is taken off wall power for a short time. If your battery was very old and died, then the settings the computer needs to start may have been lost when you unplugged it. For some Mac modles, booting from a CD or DVD gets around this temporarily, but ultimately the battery needs to be replaced. The internal batteries are cheap but can be hard to access on some iMacs like the G4 "desklamp" model
