I have tried to transfer music from my windows 7 media player to my ipod. This is the first time i have tried to use my ipod on my new computer .In the media player it doesnt give me the option to add to itunes library it just give me the option to send to my ipod and when i do this it says that the device has stopped responding or isnt working.Any ideas? coz i aint got the foggiest where i am going wrong. My ipod keeps telling me to update the software, but then will i lose the music thats already on my ipod?
You should import the music (that is listed in Windows Media Player) into your iTunes Library - on your computer - to add it to your existing iTunes Library. I take it you have moved (or copied) your music from the old computer to the new computer, haven't you?
Then Sync your iPod to that Library.
iPods will not respond to Windows Media Player, they're designed to connect to iTunes. -

I am trying to transfer files from my old pc to my new mac. When I go to migration assistant, and hit the continue button on the introductory screen, I get a message that says M Asst wants to make changes - type your password to allow this. What is my password or how do I set one up for this?
When you set up your Mac you had to enter a admin password to set up your user account.
If you did not enter one then try using the "blank window" as your password. ie Just hit return with nothing entered.
If that does not work try this reference:

I am trying to transfer files from my MacBook (source) running OSX 10.7.5 to my IMAC (target) running OSX 10.9.1. Machines connected by ethernet cable. On Target machine I get "Looking for other sources" and on source machine I get "Looking for other computers". Both have clockwise spinning wheel.
Looking for advise.
Thanks
Luap NIf you are connecting the two computers directly to each other with an ethernet cable, you need a special "crossover" cable to swap the send/receive pins so the data sent from one computer arrives on the "receive" pins on the other end of the cable, not on the "send" pins that you get with a straight cable.
Incorrect, you do not need a special crossover cable. Any cable will do. -

Hello...
I am new to the Apple community and would be very grateful for some help. My Dad recently purchased an iPad. He is a professor and has his lectures saved on his Window laptop (predominantly PowerPoint, plus PDFs and Word files) but wants them on his iPad and needs to be able to access them all. He has mistaken me for some kind of computer whiz and thinks I'm able to do this; the truth is I haven't got a clue where to start.
Any idiot-proof advice and/or ideas on how best to transfer files from a Windows 7 laptop to iPad (including whatever apps, if any need to be bought) would be very greatly appreciated
Thanks very much allHi Julian,
Sorry for the delay in response, I didn't think many answers would come in so quickly being Christmas and all...
My Dad only needs to be able to access files for reference; any editing or alteration to pre-existing files would largely be done on a desktop or his laptop. In the meantime, Dropbox does look ideal and I will investigate along with the other great ideas suggested on here for the best option.
Thanks very much... -
How does one transfer Files from an old MacBook Pro to a new iMac?
10.5.3 is at least part of the problem. You need to apply the latest updates to that mac.
See How do I set up a new Mac from an old one, its backups, or a PC? Select the appropriate link and follow the instructions carefully. -
Can anyone help give me detailed info re: how to transfer files from PC to ipad using my icloud and Pages? Thanks.
If you go to iCloud.com you can actually just upload all your documents there qnd convert them to a pages file. You can then go to your iPad and go to your pages app and have access to all the documents that you've recently uploaded on to iCloud.com. You just need to make sure that on your iPad in settings->iCloud->documents and data is turned on. If it is then anything you do on the iCloud or iPad will all sync and you can access both items from either platform.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask. You can also visit an apple store where they have free classes on iCloud and other topics.
Hope this helps. -
I have a windows formatted external hard drive and a macbook pro. I was wondering if i could use the windows migration assistant to transfer files from my external hard drive to the mac
No.
Just connect the drive to your Mac. The Mac can read most Windows formats (it cannot WRITE Windows New Technology File System (NTFS) formatted drives. -
How to transfer files from a window PC to iPad3?
How to transfer files (mainly PDF files) from a window PC to iPad3? I am a new user of iPad, please tell me the basic method.
You will first need an app on the iPad that supports PDF files - unlike a 'normal' computer the iPad doesn't have a file system, and everything on it has to be associated with an app. Apps that support PDFs include free apps such as Apple's iBooks and the Adobe Reader app.
For iBooks, you can add the PDFs to your computer's iTunes via File > Add To Library, and they should then go into the Books part of your iTunes library. You can then sync them to the iBooks app on your iPad (which you will need to download from the store and install on the iPad first) by connecting the iPad to your computer and selecting it on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, and then using the Books tab on the right-hand side to select and sync those PDFs to it.
Other PDF apps quite often use the file sharing at the bottom of the device's Apps tab
If you don't have a copy then you can download the iPad manual from here : http://support.apple.com/manuals/ipad/ -

Hello I have a MacBook Pro laptop that doesn't boot and stops at the Apple logo in grey.
I ready about Target Mode and wen't bought a Firewire cable, connected to another MacBook Pro but the hard drive doesn't show up on the Go/Computer or the Disk Utility either.
Also I noticed that when the MacBook Pro is in Target mode it shows the Firewire logo jumping around the screen but to the left of it also is something that looks like electrical/power symbol, don't know if that matters. I tried to plug in the target computer to power and nothing changes, then tried to leave it unpluged from power and plug in the power to host but nothing happens. Both are almost full power on battery.
Basically I need a way to get the files off. Thanks.See if the procedure here is any different from what you are already doing:
