I have a brand new HP laptop windows 64bit that is having issues installing Itunes 10.6.3. Whenever attempting to install, I get the error message : "THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WINDOWS INSTALLER PACKAGE. I thought this was an issue with the new version, and attempted to retrieve/install older versions of Itunes and same issue occurs. I have tried extracting the itunes package and installing the executables seperately, but everytime the error stil arises. I cannot repair the apple software update as it cannot install from the error mentioned above. Looking through the logs, it shows error : 1721, problem with windows installer package.Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try?

Go to START > ALL PROGRAMS > Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you can't find ASU, go to Control Panel:
XP - Add n Remove Programs
Win7/Vista - Programs n Features
Highlight ASU, click change then Repair. -

Apparently it's an itunes issue. I just tried to update and got the same issue. Called att to activate my iphone 4s and they say they can do the swap but apple is telling them itunes is down atm. So will have to wait

Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START > ALL PROGRAMS > Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install

Follow Microsoft instructions below on how to take control of the Folder. You may apply this on your C:\Program Files(x86)\iTunes
You may take the ownership of the folder and then use the steps to grant permission to everyone–
Locate the file or folder on which you want to take ownership in windows explorer
Right click on file or folder and select “Properties” from Context Menu
Click on Security tab
Click on “Advance”
Now click on Owner tab in Advance Security Settings for User windows
Click on Edit Button and select user from given Change Owner to list if user or group is not in given list then, click on other users or groups. Enter name of user/group and click ok.
Now select User/group and click apply and ok. (Check “Replace owner on sub containers and objects” if you have files and folder within selected folder)
Click ok when Windows Security Prompt is displayed
Now Owner name must have changed.
Now click Ok to exist from Properties windows
Once you have taken the ownership of file or folder
Grant Permissions to everyone-
Go to C: and then click right click on folder and chooseproperties.
Then go to security tab and click Edit then clickAdd => Advanced.
If you click on advanced now click on Find Now and chooseeveryone and click Ok.
Then again click Ok and now click onAllow => Full control => Ok. -

I am trying to update iTunes and keep receiving the message "The folder path "My Music" contains an invalid character.
The folder where everything is stored isnt even called My Music, it is just called Music.
I gave up on trying to update my itunes and removed it and am trying to re-download but receive the same message. Now I have no itunes on my computer at all.
Short or wiping my computer and starting again I have no ideas left.
Please help!That message isn't referring to the location of the music, it's referring to the location of the iTunes programme.
So the message is either referring to the download location or the folder it is trying to install the programme in. I think (I wouldn't put money on this) that invalid characters will be things such as * ^ % and so on. When you get the message, look for the location that your computer is trying to use. Are there any strange characters in the "file path" that your computer is using? -
I had itunes set up and working since i have had my iPhone and iPad. One day it asked to be updated, so i did. After it updated it stopped working because whenever i tried to open it it would say "this shortcut has either been deleted or moved would you like to delete this shortcut". This kept on happening so I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall it, but then comes my second problem.
