I'm trying to update my ipad 2 with ios 5 and the backup is taking forever

I stopped it at 6 hours last night and the green bar was at about 5 mm.
When i do a normal sync the backup took only 5 minutes. I've managed to upgrade my iphone 4 (although that did take 2 hours). I'm using windows 7.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Try and reboot the iPad before you do the update. To do this just hold down the lock button for a few seconds and slide "power off" give it a min and hold the lock button down again to power back on.
After this is done connect to iTunes and try the update again with a backup.

Try a reset: hold down the home button along with the power button until you see the Apple, then let go.

I just updated my iPad 2 with iOS 6 and noticed my App Store icon is gone! What happened to it?

Yesterday I updated my iPad 2 with to the iOS 6. I cannot find my App Store icon! And even tried googling something (like Skype for ipad) where it will send you to the App Store to download the app and it wouldn't take me to it. What's going on?!

Check the Restrictions settings and see if "installing apps" has been inadvertently turned on.

If KiltedTim is correct I agree with him. If the phone is not hacked try temporarily disabling your antivirus and firewall that may be blocking access to gs.apple.com. See also this article from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error3194

When updating my iPad 2 evey single app was lost. I am wondering if there is anyway to recover them, and all the info that was held in them. My photos were kept, but that was all (no music was available to be lost).
I have tried syncing to iTunes, but apparently the backup was never done/completed, or it just didn't work. This angers me greatly, and it is something that Apple HAS to fix. I have seen that this has been happening to many other people with their iPads as well, and when I talked to support about it, I was blown off.
Time to step it up Apple. If you want to keep going without Jobs, you HAVE to live up to your own reputation.

It sounds as if you were using iTunes for sync/backup, not iCloud. Presumably you had noticed the device being backed up in the past? When was your most recent backup from? In my case, the iOS upgrade process triggered its own backup, so when the new OS was installed, my iPad looked exactly as it did prior to the upgrade.
I'm not sure the problem is Apple's to fix, as you put it: it may simply be terrible luck that your backup file happened to be corrupted. :^< It's never any fun to be the outlier, I know that for sure.

Purchased an app that will only let me download to my ipad once the ipad has been backed up. Every time I start the sync/backup it is taking more than 24 hours so we eventually just stop it.

Hi Have you used iPad on 2 computers? Just use the pc you want to use. When you change your iPad it Automatically backs up to iCloud you don't need to use your PC to manage your itunes Unless you have a lot of music that not from itunes. Cheers Brian

I had the same problem. In the end I downloaded it manually. Here's the steps assuming you are on a Mac and have an iPad Air (Wifi). If not you can find other restore links here.
In the terminal (it kept failing to download in Safari):
curl http://appldnld.apple.com/iOS7.1/031-4521.20140310.D2Ydl/iPad4,1_7.1_11D167_Rest ore.ipsw >>~/Desktop/iPad4,1_7.1_11D167_Restore.ipsw
Once the file has downloaded, move it to ~/Library/iTunes/iPad Software Updates/
Quit and relaunch iTunes.
Should now work for you.

Trying to update my iPad 2 to iOS 5 but it keeps failing.

I have been trying to update my iPad 2 to iOS 5 but it keeps coming up with "The iPad could not be restored. An unknow error occurred (-1)". I've been trying since Thursday but still no joy. I've tried doing it through two different PCs as well. My iPad just tells me that it needs to connect to iTunes. I updated my iPhone software with out any issues.
I went into my local iStore but they wanted £12.00 just to restore it. I was advised that they would do it for free in an Apple Store so I'm guessing that I'll have to pop into one in London during the week.
Is anyone else having these problems / been able to resolve it?

Boy sure what you are doing but the current iOS level is 7.1 not 7.0.4.
You cannot update to 7.0.4.

Turn off the check mark to sync your music and also the check mark for the video. Sync the device. This will remove the items from you iPad but still keep them on your computer. Install IOS 7.1.2. Then turn on the check marks for your music and videos and resync the device.
