I'm unable to download my Photo Library

I used iTunes to sync a selected folder on my PC that was a backup of my old iPhone photos. The folder name was DCIM. The sync added the photos and I now have three albums - Camera Roll, Photo Library and DCIM. It looks like everything in the Photo Library is just a mirror of what's in the DCIM album. I thought maybe the DCIM name was confusing things, but when I hit edit and then try to change the DCIM, it only flashes when I select it. I was able to edit a test album without issue. I'm also not able to delete any photos in the Photo Library or DCIM albums, but I can in the Camera Roll.
So, this DCIM album is my only backup of these 4K photos and I would really like to get a copy off my phone ASAP in case it dies.
Any help would be appreciated.

What happened to the DCIM folder on your computer? That should be the backup of your photos.
Photos taken with your phone or copied from email or website etc. reside in the Camera Roll and can be deleted there.
Photos that were copied to your phone by syncing with your computer, the dcim album in this case, cannot be deleted on your phone. To delete them you must do another sync but this time deselect the folder in iTunes on your computer before clicking on Apply and Sync.
The Photo Library is just that. It is a way to view all photos on your phone. If you had more albums in addition to the DCIM album this would be of value to you. But with only one album, not so much.
Albums acquired on your phone by syncing with your computer, the DCIM album in this case, cannot have their name edited as it is tied to the album on your computer when you sync your phone to your computer.
Albums you create on your phone are not tied to albums on your computer and can therefore have their names edited on your phone.

  • Unable to upgrade this photo library?

I just installed iLife 'o6. When I start iPhoto I get a message saying "The photo library needs to be upgraded needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto." I click on upgrade and then get a message saying "Unable to upgrade this photo library because the current user does not have access. If possible, repair permissions for the iPhoto Library Folder and try again". How do I do this. There are only two users for this iMac G5 and we both have full permissions.
    Thanks for an suggestions.

    Great find Michel!
This is what I needed help with. I found that I had about 10 or so locked images and had to restart iPhoto each time it found a locked file (very tedious). But it WORKED!! Thanks
I found a way to search your iPhoto Library to find he locked files:
    1. Open Terminal (located in Application/Utilities)
    2. type in "find " (include space)
    3. Drag your iPhoto Library folder into the Terminal window. This will add the directory location to the find (e.g. "find /Users/john/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library/")
    4. Add "-flags uchg" at the very end of it. Be sure there is no space at the end
    find /Users/john/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library/ -flags uchg
Hit return amnd you should get a list of where the images are.
There is more info in this thread here on doing a "batch" unlocking of all the listed files: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1167705

I am unable to import all photos to IPhoto on computer.  At a certain photo the following message appears:  IPhoto cannot import your photos
because there was a problem downloading an image.  How can I circumvent this particular image and import all other photos?

I'm having the same issue.  i have imported everything but the offending photo from my iPhone.  problem is, with over 5000 pics, i have no idea how to find THAT ONE pic that won't import (bc I just get a greyed out pic image - with no data in iPhoto)
any idea how to get "date taken" info of THAT ONE pic out of iPhoto (or any metadata) so I don't have to search 3 years of pictures?

  • Digital editions audiobook-unable to download from local library. e-book ok

Help-we are unable to download audiobooks from our local library to digital editions after installing a new modem. Modem checks out ok, and we can download ebooks. No error messages.
    Thanks, DA

    Thanks for the reply
No, I had not tried to download a audiobook previously. I guess I assumed digital editions would allow me to download audio books also.
This started when I acquired a older ipod [wide plug type] and wanted to download an audio book to digital editions-then to the ipod.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks  DA

  • Unable to download all photos from iphone to the laptop

I have updated the portable devices software, it was already upto date anyway.I just want to automatically transfer all phots, inc videos and folders in the photo folder to my laptop but I am unable to do this .Please help.

You can only transfer photos in the Camera Roll; photos in the Photo App's folders other than the Camera Roll were synced from a computer, and can only be managed from that computer. If it is Camera Roll photos that you are having trouble with see: Copying personal photos and videos from iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer

  • The photo library won't upgrade so that I can use iPhoto

I recently installed iWork on my computer. When I tried to open iPhoto after having my computer unplugged and off for awhile a message appeared saying "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with the latest version of iPhoto..." I clicked the Upgrade button highlighted in blue and it said "Unable to upgrade this photo library because the current user doesn;t have access. If possible, repair permissions for iPhoto library and try again" I have no idea what this means. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Colleen:
First move the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, from your User/Library/Preferences folder to the desktop and try again. If still a no-go download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administartive name in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • After install, won't upgrade photo library

I have just installed ilife 06, changing iphoto from 04 to 06 and I am unable to upgrade my photo library. Here is the message: "Unable to upgrade. Current User does not have access". I have gotten info in iphoto and confirmed I am the user, I have repaired the permissions in disk utility, and I have gone thru the steps to unlock via the Terminal. Nothing worked. Any ideas? Pleae help!

    NotaPipe:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That has happened to others and the following has been able to fix it for some: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Give it a go and see if it will help you also.

I just downloaded Yosemite and all my iPhotos have disappeared! I tried importing them from the photo library but it said there wasn't enough space on my hard drive which is rubbish, because they were there before. How do I get them back to iPhoto?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • I try to open iphoto and it comes up with You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto. I have downloaded photo manager and it's telling me to update but it wont update...

I try to open iphoto and it comes up with You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto. I have downloaded photo manager and it's telling me to update but it wont update...

iPhoto is Apple's included program to manage your photo's and pictures.
It receives updates over time with Software updates and new machine or iLife purchases.
When iPhoto gets updated or a newer version is used, it may alter iPhoto support files, but newer iPhoto versions usually always compatible with older files which it then updates.
If you used a newer iPhoto on your iPhoto support files, then they got altered to the newer format, older iPhoto versions can't read the older format.
Somewhere along the line you somehow got a older version of iPhoto on your computer, you need to fine the newer version of iPhoto (not this photo manager, sounds like another program)
Or somewhere along the line you used a newer iPhoto version (like on another Mac) and it altered the iPhoto support files on your older version of iPhoto.
So the key here is to find the newest version of iPhoto and use that to access your iPhoto support files.
If you didn't access your iPhoto support files from another Mac, then you should have the newer iPhoto version on your computer.
Once you find it, and get it in the Dock, you should remove the older iPhoto version from your computer to prevent this from happening again.
Lastly, if the newer version of iPhoto is somehow gone off your computer, you should be able to get a copy off the latest OS X install disk or iLife using a free program called Pacifist.
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
Then you need to check for updates for iPhoto in the program itself, the current version is 9.1.2

  • I have the iCloud Photo Library (Beta) turned on. The photos from my iPhone do get uploaded to the iCloud. The photos are then downloaded to my wife's iPhone (we share the iCloud account). How do I keep the photos from downloading to my wife's iPhone

I do not want all the photos from my iPhone downloading to my wife's iPhone from iCloud? We share an iCloud account. How can I prevent the download to my wife's iPhone from iCloud. .The "Upload to My Photo Stream" is turned off on my iPhone. . I am running 8.1.3.
I have a related question. In order to same space on my iPhone is there a way to upload the photos to the iCloud and then delete them from my iPhone.

The way to keep the photos from downloading to your wife's phone would be for her to go to Settings > iCloud > Photos > and turn off iCloud Photo Library. If that isn't an option, the other option would be for her to have her own Apple ID ( and possibly explore the new family sharing options https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/ )
Regarding the "related question" see the quotes below from iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
Deleting a photo or video from your Photos app will also remove the item from iCloud Photo Library and from your iCloud storage allocation. Photos and videos you remove can be recovered from the Recently Deleted album for 30 days. After 30 days, your content will be removed from the Recently Deleted album.
If you want to reduce the space used by photos on your phone, rather than deleting them see the following:
How does iCloud Photo Library save space on my device?
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your iOS device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. iCloud Photo Library stores the original, high-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and can keep lightweight, device-optimized versions on each of your devices. As long as you have enough storage, recent photos and videos that you access the most will stay on your device at full resolution.
You can turn on Optimize [device] Storage from Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera > iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.
