I am having the same issue for itunes.msi (iPhone 4S and Windows XP)
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package iTunes.msi in the box below. iTunesSetup.exe shows in my download folder, but it will not install.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Trying to (re) install on Windows PX and get failure stating: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."

Can't get around this no matter what...
Have used a couple of tools to forcibly emove ALL apple products (ASC and JV16). Cleaned registry, cleaned temp files, etc. Did have iTunes 8.x installed but was non-functional. Did an Add/Remove then tried to install iTunes 10.x and this started...
Any ideas?

I get the error "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Pick an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi". This has been going on for a couple of weeks now and I'm very frustrated. From what I can see, I'm not the only one with this problem, but I have yet to see anyone post a solution that works. Microsoft wants to charge me $99 to troubleshoot it for me and Apple will charge $20. I think both are ridiculous as this is obviously not "operator error".

I just found a way to get Fixit to Run. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/ and then pick "Install or upgrade software or hardware" and run Fixit from the "Run" button on the webpage. I just picked run, instead of save, and ran it directly from the web page for each of the apple software. If the window doesn't come up full size, hit "Tab" twice and then "Return". You'll be able to see the prompts from there. Have it attempt to uninstall iTunes on its own. Repeat the process for any of the other Apple products, including Bonjour and iCloud. Then, go to the iTunes website and install from there. I had a downloaded copy and installed from there, but it came up with an error about missing the apple help, or something like that. It allowed me to uninstall, and I reinstalled direclty from the website, and it all works now.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. This kind of problem can often be fixed with the microsoft Installer cleanup utility.
Unfortunately the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility has been withdrawn by Microsoft because of compatibility issues with Microsoft Office so you will need to find a copy elsewhere – the installer is msicuu2.exe. You need version 3.

Check for malware before installing it.
After installing, To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install
If you get permission denied error, Try Run as Administrator – an option if you right click on the program.
When you run the cleanup utility, look for any instance that you find of iTunes and remove it.
It is possible that you will have to remove other apple programs if removing iTunes doesn't allow you to install iTunes. Post back with any furtyher error messages if there is a problem.
