I'm unable to set my desktop display after a Firfox update.

Last evening Firefox performed an automatic update. After the update was completed, the photo on my desktop changed, and I am unable to change it by going to Control Panel> Desktop tab. I have a plain blue screen.

Ah, OK! I've managed to recreate your problem. Here's the solution, it's a bit complex so read it through and ideally have it on screen on another computer or print it out first.
1. Go to  > System Preferences > Users & Groups
2. Hold down 'control' and click 'Login Options' near the bottom of the left-hand column
3. Where it says 'Network Account Server' in the main window, click 'Join'.
4. Ignore the input box in the pop-up dialogue, but click the button bottom-left that says ''Open Directory Utility...'
5. Click the padlock at the bottom of the new box and enter your admin password.
6. Go up to the 'Directory Utility' menubar at the top, and choose the menu Edit > Enable Root User
7. Type in the same password that you use for your admin accont and press 'return'
8. Go  > Log out (your user name)...
9. In the login window, type 'root' for the user, and your admin password for the password.
10. In the new desktop that appears, navigate to the file you want to lock. Do 'get info' and you'll NOW see that you can lock it!
11. After locking the file, go  > log out (root user) and re-login in your usual account.
Job done!

Unable to enable remote desktop (XDMCP) after jumpstart Solaris 10 U9

I have installed Solaris 10 U9 using the jumpstart.
I would like to have enabled remote desktop (XDMCP) after installation.
But Solaris 10 U9 has this option disabled:

After reboot this change in Xconfig doesn't enable XDMCP.
Do you know what to change to have XDMCP enabled after jumpstart installation?

By default xdmcp will start on udp port 0. normally it should listen on 177.
Try this. you should be able to login through xdmcp after this.

I am unable to turn on location services after the iOS7 update on my iPhone 5

Relatively self explanatory. When I go into Privacy settings I am unable to turn Location Servies on. The option appears, but I cannot slide the switch to 'on'. This has only happened after the ios7 update.

Unable to Save Pictures to Device After 10.2 Update

After the Verizon update to 10.2, I am unable to save pictures received via MMS to the device. The screen dims like it is going to work, but after a (too long) delay the screen returns to where I was before viewing the picture. On the plus side, it does allow me to share, and after doing this a few times, the suggestion comes up to my email so I can email the pictures to myself and at least I have access to them on my computer.
As expected, my testing shows the same problem with pictures received via BBM and via eMail.
Since the 10.2 update, EVRYTHING runs in super slow motion, and leads an inpatient user to think the phone is hung up. In this case I'm sure that this is an error, not a delay because I have waited and waited for the function to work properly.

Have you tried rebooting the device by removing the battery?

Missing Icons, unable to set file association properly after upgrade to CS6

I am working with a client that had CS3 on Windows XP and upgraded to CS 5.5, and now has upgraded that to CS6. Her file associations were all set back to CS3, even though it shows that CS3 is uninstalled. I manually changed them and it will open the INDesign files but I cannot get icons to show for anything. I can see the icons in the shell folder and I can pick one but it will not show in Windows. Is there a way to clean up her system easily and make CS6 the default Adobe - and make sure none of the others have lingering file associations or references? I dont think they uninstalled all the way.

There is no easy way. you will have to clean out all file associations and reinstate them manually. You are simply exceeding the context handlers, a limitation in the operating system itself and usualyl a sign of too many programs trying to link their actions to a file association liek right-click menu entries for compression tools, virus scanners, viewers etc.

2. Sign in to the DPS Daashboard (https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com).

Logged-in user info doesn't display after the user updates their info

I created 2 pages. Page 1 has a recordset that displays only the users username and password, I did a filter on this recordset as username = session var = MM_Username. when they click update, which is just a link to page 2, they go to page 2 which has a recordset that filters their user info the same way and allows them to update their username and password. I used an update behavior on this page as well. So, when the user updates their info it DOES change the database info and works great.
The problem: When the user goes back to page 1 to see their updated username and password that they just updated, it is BLANK. no info displays on screen, even when I refresh the page. it's if the MM_Username var is not refreshing while logged-in. Because when the user logs out and logs back in, it DOES display new username and password on page 1.
Now it DOES work when I take the filter off of page 1's recordset, but this won't do me any good b/c the user should of course only see their info.
I am running DW CS3, php, and mysql.

Unable to install treo 90 software after 10.4 update

Hi --
Apple recently replaced the hard drive to my 12in powerbook g4 and I am having trouble loading older software in 10.4, namely Treo 90 software. The install fails after about 95 percent complete, each and every time. According to the palm forums, this is a problem with 10.4.5 and now 10.4.6, as I have discovered. It worked in 10.2.
Is Apple solving this for the next update? Or is there 3rd party software that I can use to upload the data?

While neither of these issues is likely the cause of your particular problem, you should be aware of them if you are attempting to install Palm Desktop version 4, the release recommended for your Treo 90.
1. Mac OS X supports UFS formatting of hard drives. However, Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager 4.0 for Macintosh does not support installation on UFS formatted hard drives.
2. The Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager 4.0 installer will not work if an NFS volume is mounted. Dismount all NFS volumes and then run the installer.
Your installation probably fails when it attempts to write earlier copies of the Palm OS in a folder named Palm OS™ Updates, located here:
Macintosh HD:Applications:Palm:Palm OS™ Updates
The permissions for that folder must be set as…
Ownership & Permissions: You can Read & Write
Owner: system Access: Read & Write
Group: admin Access: Read & Write
Others: Read only
…and these must be applied to each of the enclosed items in that folder.
You should be aware that releases of the Palm Desktop prior to 4.2.1 revision D have poor support in OS X, and that release is marginal. It is also worth pointing out that Palm has publicly stated that it has no plans to release a Palm Desktop for OS X with support for Palm OS 6 devices, and is unlikely to update or upgrade the existing available Palm Desktop releases for Mac OS X.
It may be time that you investigate stepping up to a Palm OS 4 or 5 device so that you can use an alternative product like the Missing Sync for Palm OS to synchronize your contact data with the Address Book, calendaring and task date with iCal, and Memos with the Mark/Space MemoPad.
The minimum Treo smartphone supported by the Missing Sync is a Treo 600, and the minimum Palm organizers supported are an m130, a Zire or any Tungsten model.

Remote Desktop Fail after March 10 Updates!

I updated client servers with MS updates as usual over the weekend remotely. Tried to remotely log into 2 of the servers after they rebooted; Server 2008 R2 and 2008 Standard, and was denied with "Your credentials did not work" message at the top
of the dialog. Administrator, other IDs did not work. Only way to log into either server was to drive into the client (on Sunday) and login from the console. Once logged in from the console I was able to RD into each. If the server is rebooted RD is again
unavailable until logged in from the console. I am now seeing that remote access works for a while but in some cases becomes unavailable after a while. The problem only seems to affect server 2008 and 2012 variants.
Backed out the following updates and the problem remained: KB3002657, KB3033929, KB3046049, KB3035131, KB3034344, KB3032359, KB3039066, KB3035132, KB3035126, KB3033889, KB3032323, KB3030377. Then I restored the System State from the day before the updates but
the problem is still present.
Unfortunately, this particular client has around 30 remote users who need to login every day. The only workaround I've found is to log their IDs in at the console first. Then they can connect remotely. Others have reported this problem and one post leads me
to believe it could be an issue with 2008/2012 RDS boxes on a 2003 Domain Controller. Any help appreciated or, MS: Please Get This Fixed!

We are both in the same boat.
While it's nice to know that Microsoft gives us these broken updates so we can charge customers, there is that "loyalty" factor to our customers in which we end up absorbing the many hours of troubleshooting and research time spent.
Failing to find a suitable solution to this problem by end of day I will attempt to remove ALL 27 Security Updates that were installed to see if this resolves the issue.
What scares me is that you probably removed the applicable ones and that we will be in the same situation after removal.

the issue got fixed, by changing the order of Payment above the Benefits
1. i made some options to be disabled & enabled in both benefits and payment
2. Then in the portal i could see the benefits and payment
3. inside the benefits & payment i was able to see two option 1 is for benefits & other is for payment
4. we only wanted payment functionality to be displaying
5. so i tried to hide the benefits then noting was getting displayed in the portal
6. finally i changed the order of the payment just above the benefits
then then i was able to see the benefits and payment inside that i was able to see the payment where i was able to see the payslip
i am not sure what i have done but i is working but please let me know what the problem was actually

On 08/16/14 I installed the Java Standard Edition to replace the Java Oracle Software. I requested software update for Safari and discovered the Safari Update and installed accordingly. Then, I recognized pop-up windows constantly opening with the advertisement to install MacKeeper. Apparently, my trial period had ended, thus requiring payment to execute a complete clean-up of macbook hard drive. Since then, I have downloaded CalmXav to remove any and all corrupted files, software, etc. Yet, I continually have multiple pop-up windows open when using Safari. I have gone to the Safari Preferences and changed privacy setting to block all cookies and other website data "from third parties" in addition to removing all websites and cleared the cache. However, upon restarting macbook, I find the settings in Safari Privacy reverted back to "never" block cookies and other website data. Can you please advise how to resolve this issue of what I believe to be "malware pop-up windows from occurring?"

The Safari update was bogus. You may have installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data.

This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...

[SOLVED] Plasma Desktop segfaults after recent KDE update to ver. 4.6

Today after upgrading some amount of packages, including the new KDE 4.6, my Plasma Desktop "segfaults" every single time I login into my account. I tried to send some information regarding this issue using KDE's internal reporting system, but unfortunately it tells me, that those information are irrelevant. Does anyone experience "segfaulting" of the Plasma Desktop after recent KDE upgrade? I'm looking for some help on how to solve this issue, as for the moment my Arch is dead...
