I'm unable to sync my phone to my iTunes library

I went to plug my phone into iTunes to sync new stuff to my library, and it's like iTunes or my computer completely ignored my phone, or as if it wasn't there. My phone charges when plugged into the computer, but I believe something may be wrong with iTunes, because it doesn't sense that my phone is plugged in, and I have my settings where my phone should automatically sync with iTunes the moment it's plugged into my computer.

Hi hannijin,
What version of the Mac OS X do you have on your computer?  The version of iTunes that you can install is dependent on the operating system that you have.  For example, the current version of iTunes requires OS X version 10.7.5 or later.

    Hi, hoopsnut34.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The most common cause for the screen not rotating would be the Screen Rotation Lock button is enabled.  Here are the steps on how to disable this feature.

  • My wife wants my music on her iphone, how do I sync her phone with my itunes library without her losing all of her contacts?

My wife wants my music on her iphone, i am worried about syncing her phone to my itunes and her losing all of her contacts.  Should I not be worried?  How should I proceed?

She should not sync her phone to a different iTunes library.  Once solution is to set up Home Sharing, then in iTunes on her computer drag and drop the music from your library to hers. Then she can sync this music from her own iTunes library to her phone.  (She will need to authorize her computer for the Apple ID(s) used to purchase any purchased music in order to sync it to her phone.)  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4620.

  • How to sync iPhone to a different iTunes library without losing content on phone

I've been using iTunes on my Macbook Air mostly for podcasts, which I periodically clean up to conserve disk space. I had a separate iTunes library on an iMac that holds my complete music collection. My iPhone is synced to the library on the Macbook Air. I just recently purchased an external hard drive and moved my whole iTunes library to it, combined with the few albums that I imported from the MacAir library, where the whole shebang is now available via Airport Extreme to both the iMac and Macbook Air, i.e., both computers can now access the same complete iTunes library, and the podcast-only library has been deleted from the Air. But now my phone won't sync to the library on the external drive. I'm not getting the "Sync and Erase" message that I've read about, but I can't drag content onto my phone, either. How do I get the phone to recognize this new library, and will I have to erase all of the music on the phone to do it?

It would be cleaner to simply sync the phone with the new library.  You can manually add music to the phone but you will perpetually be having the problem you cannot do a proper sync.
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202 - You can manage your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers as long as you have set the device to "Manually manage music."  -  E.g., adding music from a second computer to an i-device. • I have just purchased a new macbook and need to sync my iphone with itunes, i understand that you can only sync your phone with one itunes account. I do not want to wipe my iphone when syncing with this new itunes account. Any advice welcome

I have just purchased a new macbook and need to sync my iphone with itunes, i understand that you can only sync your phone with one itunes account. I do not want to wipe my iphone when syncing with this new itunes account. Any advice welcome

    1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

  • My computer crashed and I no longer have the itunes library. i get an error msg that my iphone is synced to another library - how can I get the info from the phone to the itunes library?

my computer crashed and I no longer have the itunes library. i get an error msg that my iphone 3g is synced to another library - how can I get the info from the phone to the itunes library without losing everything? How do I delete old audiobooks from my iphone?

You can transfer itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.

  • I have a new mac and want to sync my phone to the iTunes on it, but it won't let me manually manage without deleting all music on the phone already from another iTunes. is there a way around this?

I have a new mac and want to sync my phone to the iTunes on it, but it won't let me manually manage without deleting all music on the phone already from another iTunes. is there a way around this?

    The best solution:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
An alternative which is really not what you should have to do, or the way it is intended to be done, if you properly manage your computer and backups:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer (except purchased content as mentioned above).  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will probably have to use third party commercial software unless you have an older model iPod. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

Do not regard your i-device as a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself backed up.

  • After moving my itunes library from my old WinXP computer to my new Win7 computer, itunes gives a warning that my content on my phone must be removed and re-synced. I want to merge changes/updates on my phone with my itunes library as normal, not erase it

After moving my itunes library from my old WinXP computer to my new Win7 computer, itunes gives a warning that my content on my phone must be removed and re-synced. I want to merge changes/updates on my phone with my itunes library as normal, not erase it & replace it. My updates/changes will be lost.
How do I merge content on my iPhone & content in iTunes together?

Hopefully you still have the original library and can redo the migration...
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

Becasue that is the way the ****** iphone is designed.
You can only sync with one ******computer.
There is nothing to ****** fix.
It is the ****** design of the iphone.  It is ****** by design.

  • Can someone sync their music into my iTunes library without having to erase their data

Can someone sync their music into my itunes library without having to erase their data

SYncing is from itunes on the computer to the  phone an dnot the other way around.  If they connect to your computer and sync their phone they will have your library annd theirs will be gone.  It is recommended that you only sync to one computer

  • There is absolutely NO way to drag and drop newly purchased music from the Purchased list on the phone into my iTunes library?  I'm finding it hard to believe that something so simple cannot be done!

I like to make MP3 CD's when I have people over, or when my friends have people over so I can just pop them into the CD player and let them play all night without having to worry about changing the CD or anything.  Well, Apple's music is in AAC format, so I have to convert the songs to MP3 files using the converter in iTunes.  So I'll convert them to MP3's and just delete the AAC file so I don't have doubles.  The problem is, the next time I plug the phone into my laptop to transfer new purchases, iTunes thinks that the songs I converted aren't there anymore because the phone has them as AAC files, and iTunes has them as MP3 files, so it doubles the music again...EVERY time!!  It's very frustrating!  So this is why instead of clicking Transfer Purchases, I would like to be able to just drag and drop the songs I want from the Purchased list on the phone into my iTunes library.  I hope I explained this right...lol.  Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like I'm able to do that.  I'm hoping maybe somebody here can help me out and give me some pointers on what to do about this.  Thanks!!

That stinks!  I can actually do that at my house...I just plug my iPhone right into the wire that's plugged into my receiver in my living room...but some of my friends aren't "technology savvy"...lol...so they just have DVD players and I'll put the CD in there because it will read an MP3 disc.  What's funny, is I have the phone set to "Manually Manage Music", and when I plugged it into the laptop just now, the one song I downloaded last night on the phone, transferred over to the iTunesl library.  That NEVER happens.  And it only transferred the one song...it didn't double the other songs like it ususally does.  I swear, iTunes does what it wants, when it wants sometimes...lol.  Thank you for your quick response.
